Great video! I've been building classical guitars for several years with shellac finishes. I've watched multiple videos on "french polishing". Most of them are incredibly tedious and wordy with half the information here. I especially like the errors shown and recovery from them, having made many, many more errors finishing than I ever did in construction!
I am doing this at the moment.. Do you seal this with poly afterwards or varnish.. Or do you just stop with the shellac.. My issue from my inexperience I used Non Dewaxed shellac.. Grrrr.. Most top coats say not to be used with non de-waxed Shellac
I couldn't have come across your video at a better time! I'm in the process of applying amber shellac to a Warmoth body Strat. I have a question and I hope that you see my comment. I have a rattle can of some nitrocellulose that I was going to apply at the very end of the process and I'm wondering what your opinion on that is? By the way new subscriber here!
Hard a hard time finding a simple and clear video to help me with this. This was so easy and fun to follow, thanks!
it's good to see someone using shellac as a finish. nice shine
Thanks, it does look great and the orange shellac gave it a wonderful aged yellowing to it right away, though it's not the most durable finish
I'm trying this for the first time in a few weeks, this was a huge help, thank you
