A rustic paint job and how to finish a guitar in polyurethane
I accidentally made new wood look like reclaimed boards and this is how i did it. I also included some information on how to finish a guitar with a polyurethane finish.
With all of the woodwork and finishing done, I am now on to hardware and wiring for this guitar next.

Improving an amazon guitar neck
Переглядів 2365 місяців тому
I bought this guitar neck off of amazon and here I did the work necessary to really improve it up to a level that I'm happy to put it on a guitar. I give a quick overview on how to finish a guitar with tru oil and how to prep the neck for attachment to an otherwise DIY guitar.

A WEIRD effect pedal for only $40
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
I bought the Flamma Mini Modulation pedal off Amazon in an attempt to create a very strange modulation-based pedal board for my current rig build. Turns out this thing sounds GREAT, especially for the price! I'll be using it for the oddball effects that are included more than the chorus, flanger, or other simple mod effects. The main reason I wanted to give this effect a try is because of the "...
Custom wiring mods for a scrap parts guitar
Переглядів 847Рік тому
I finished my parts-bin special Les Paul Junior and did a few custom wiring mods so I would have some tonal variety to play with. I put in a coil split for the humbucker, a bypassable tone control, a kill switch, a treble bleed mod, plus a few extra layout tricks to make the whole thing more resilient and more pleasant to play. The original schematic came from the book Solid Sound by Eric Daw, ...
Finishing a guitar with Shellac

I put a shellac finish on my parts-bin guitar build and here's everything I've learned so far about how to finish a guitar body with shellac. This trashcaster, the Junc parts Les Paul Junior, is nearly complete and in my next video I'll show you the oddball wiring scheme that I've come up with for it.
Trying a new guitar painting technique
Переглядів 3,4 тис.Рік тому
I used some scrap guitar parts to build a piece of wall art and tested out a viral painting technique while I was at it. This has been making the rounds of instagram and tiktok and I couldn't resist trying to paint a neon 80s inspired guitar using the method. More guitar and music DIY projects coming up, the junk parts Les Paul is nearly finished and it will be in the next video!

I'm building a guitar almost entirely from pieces I have in the parts bin. I bought some red oak to do some basic inlay work and I'll be purchasing a few pieces of the wiring harness but the body, neck, pickup, and hardware are all junkpile specials. In this video I'm laying out the plan, gathering the parts, and preparing the body from a reject slab of reclaimed soft wood. Stay tuned for parts...
A portable car horn, because why not?
Переглядів 139Рік тому
My old battery powered drill broke and I turned it into a portable siren? An old timey car horn with a battery pack? A man portable war horn? Partially inspired by the Modern Rogue's "Honk of Wrongdor" and partially by some meme clip I saw of a kid with an air pump hooked up to a trumpet, I wanted to make the most of the spare parts and create this strange little noise maker. It's a Harbor Frei...

A tree fell in my yard... so I built this!

When a cedar tree fell in my yard this year I made the decision to mill some of the wood and build some guitars from it- this is the first build, a four string stick dulcimer. A little bit cigar box guitar, a little bit diddley bow, this small guitar is made entirely from reclaimed parts (with the exception of like, four washers.) I even found a great way to use cheap P Bass pickups as pickup s...

      I think this could do the trick but if you're going for Josh Homme tones you'll probably want to get an eq pedal too, regardless of what distortion you go for, just to get a proper low end boost like he has.

    The 8 bit sounds fun. But I’m not sure about the other effect sounds. I’m hooked or finally taking steps into pedals an I love my MRX carbon copy analog delay, Ibanez tube screamer ts9, lbanez nu tube tube screamer an JHD reverb pedal… plus cry baby wah. I want a chorus pedal. But I can get groovy space sounds for what I have. But I want some ambient sounds that aren’t harsh. Just cool.

      To be honest, I'm not super well versed on Metallica's gear or emulating their tone. This thing does have a nice wide variety of tones though so I'm sure you could dial in something close

      If you want to play Metallica songs, I heavily HEAVILY recommend the Behringer Ultra Metal pedal, it’s amazing and definitely one of my favourites, the best part is that you can fiddle with the mids and highs, which means you can really get into metallicas tone, trust me you’ll never look back

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik 4 місяці тому

      Most of them are coming from china, I can't recall where this particular one shipped from as I had purchased it a couple years ago. I find that, overall, the unfinished necks are great for someone willing to do the finishing work. The finished necks are not such good quality, it seems that those finishing details are where these factories are really missing the mark.

    Can it be used as an alt to boss ds-1?

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik 5 місяців тому

      It depends on what you're looking for out of a DS-1. If what you want is a good budget distortion, I think that this thing has a wider variety of tones to choose from and can probably help you get a more personalized sound. If you're looking for a specifically DS1 tone, I'd stick with the original they're still only like 40 bucks used compared to this Behringer at 30 dollars new Personally I stick with the DS1 on my bass pedalboard because I like the sound of it on a bass with the gain all the way up and the tone all the way down. On my guitar rigs, I stick with something more variable like this Behringer.

    • @MementoMoriOfficiall
      @MementoMoriOfficiall 5 місяців тому

      @@junc_musik something that could sound as close as Kurt Cobain's tone. That's what I'm looking for. Ik there two behringer pedals that copy Ds 1 and Ds 2 but aren't produced anymore and nobody is selling them in my country. This pedal is my only hope Edit: I'm from Romania, 30-40 dollars in my country is A LOT

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik 5 місяців тому

      @@MementoMoriOfficiall understood. The Donner Extreme Driver might be a little bit closer to a DS1 than this pedal is, and goes on sale sometimes for like 20 bucks but I'm not sure if that one is available to you. If not, then yes I think that you could dial in a pretty good Cobain distortion with this Behringer

    On electric guitar, does the wood used and the finish have a little or a lot with tone???..RocknRollflat5

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik 5 місяців тому

      Personally I don't think that the wood has nearly as much of an impact as it does on acoustic guitars. Finish even less so, a lighter finish will theoretically allow the body to resonate a little better but I don't necessarily think that even measurable differences there add up to audible differences. To me, fit and finish is all about playability and feel, while the wood used is about aesthetic and whether it's tough enough to withstand the tension and abuse it gets. Number one factor in tone on an electric will always be the pickups

    I have a Warmoth ash HSS strat body, how good will Tru oil work on this body unprepped?

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik 6 місяців тому

      I haven't worked with Warmoth parts yet, so I'm not sure just how unprepped that is, and it all depends on what you are going for and what you have for a starting point. I would think that... Ash is probably going to need a grain fill or it will have the grain texture through the finish, if that's fine for you then go for it! I'm actually making a guitar right now that is meant to have a very rough finished look. and just doing some all-over sanding before applying the finish will make a big difference. If it's just got a rough sand from the factory then you'll have a pretty rough/rustic end product but if you take the time to sand it up even to like a 220 grit it will come out much smoother.
