The Return of Juncmusik
I'm back after a bit of an unintentional hiatus, and with new projects incoming! Thanks for the support, I'll be making higher quality vids from here on out and hopefully still managing to give you all some detail looks at various parts of my guitar building and modifying processes

A WEIRD effect pedal for only $40
Переглядів 6 тис.10 місяців тому
I bought the Flamma Mini Modulation pedal off Amazon in an attempt to create a very strange modulation-based pedal board for my current rig build. Turns out this thing sounds GREAT, especially for the price! I'll be using it for the oddball effects that are included more than the chorus, flanger, or other simple mod effects. The main reason I wanted to give this effect a try is because of the "...
Custom wiring mods for a scrap parts guitar
Переглядів 726Рік тому
I finished my parts-bin special Les Paul Junior and did a few custom wiring mods so I would have some tonal variety to play with. I put in a coil split for the humbucker, a bypassable tone control, a kill switch, a treble bleed mod, plus a few extra layout tricks to make the whole thing more resilient and more pleasant to play. The original schematic came from the book Solid Sound by Eric Daw, ...
Finishing a guitar with Shellac
Переглядів 4 тис.Рік тому
I put a shellac finish on my parts-bin guitar build and here's everything I've learned so far about how to finish a guitar body with shellac. This trashcaster, the Junc parts Les Paul Junior, is nearly complete and in my next video I'll show you the oddball wiring scheme that I've come up with for it.
Trying a new guitar painting technique
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Рік тому
I used some scrap guitar parts to build a piece of wall art and tested out a viral painting technique while I was at it. This has been making the rounds of instagram and tiktok and I couldn't resist trying to paint a neon 80s inspired guitar using the method. More guitar and music DIY projects coming up, the junk parts Les Paul is nearly finished and it will be in the next video!
A scrap parts guitar project
Переглядів 2,8 тис.Рік тому
I'm building a guitar almost entirely from pieces I have in the parts bin. I bought some red oak to do some basic inlay work and I'll be purchasing a few pieces of the wiring harness but the body, neck, pickup, and hardware are all junkpile specials. In this video I'm laying out the plan, gathering the parts, and preparing the body from a reject slab of reclaimed soft wood. Stay tuned for parts...
A portable car horn, because why not?
Переглядів 135Рік тому
My old battery powered drill broke and I turned it into a portable siren? An old timey car horn with a battery pack? A man portable war horn? Partially inspired by the Modern Rogue's "Honk of Wrongdor" and partially by some meme clip I saw of a kid with an air pump hooked up to a trumpet, I wanted to make the most of the spare parts and create this strange little noise maker. It's a Harbor Frei...
This distortion pedal is cheap and versatile! The Behringer OD300
Переглядів 8 тис.Рік тому
Unboxing a Behringer OD300, their take on the BOSS OS-2 overdrive and distortion. It's a great pedal for beginners and for folks looking to add some good tweakable baseline distortion tones in their recording rigs. I'll be using this pedal in a mini pedalboard build soon so stick around to see more budget friendly gear content
A tree fell in my yard... so I built this!
Переглядів 365Рік тому
When a cedar tree fell in my yard this year I made the decision to mill some of the wood and build some guitars from it- this is the first build, a four string stick dulcimer. A little bit cigar box guitar, a little bit diddley bow, this small guitar is made entirely from reclaimed parts (with the exception of like, four washers.) I even found a great way to use cheap P Bass pickups as pickup s...
BIG tone from small amps!
Переглядів 177Рік тому
I install a speaker out jack on every one of my combo amps, whether for guitar or bass, so that I can plug them in to bigger speaker cabinets. They get way more volume and better tone when used in conjunction with a large speaker cab compared to the smaller internal speakers typical of small practice amps. Here I'm showing you how to install a speaker out jack on any combo amp, and talking abou...
Why I mutilated this guitar... an Eddie Van Halen story
Переглядів 317Рік тому
This is my Swiss Cheese guitar, it is also my Eddie Van Halen tribute build. In this video I attempt to justify myself and explain the little details I put into this build to pay homage to the man himself. Every guitarist should take some time, at some point, to put together a partscaster or a kit build and really try to dial it in to absolutely nail a certain tone or feel, you won't regret the...
From reclaimed wood- the juncbass!
Переглядів 3722 роки тому
In this video I give an overview of my electric bass, made almost entirely from reclaimed wood and parts, lovingly named the juncbass. This is the body that I used in another video to demonstrate how to do Tru Oil finishes on guitar bodies, as well as the neck that I used to demo some logo transfer ideas. It sounds great with its Fender Original 62 pickup and I can't wait to build another versi...
This guitar can't play a wrong note!

I built an electric dulcitar and logged the process so you can replicate it- it's simple to turn an unwanted guitar into one of these, which can be used for added texture in recordings and is also great for songwriting
DIY pickup routing templates
Переглядів 2,4 тис.2 роки тому
I just made some routing templates using a disused pickguard as a guide, why didn't I think of doing this before? Now for my next guitar build I can make much cleaner pickup routes without having to either (a) trust that the cheap internet templates will fit or (b) pony up for the really accurate ones. All this was made with materials on hand and now I have to go make some more from, well, just...

I have a Warmoth ash HSS strat body, how good will Tru oil work on this body unprepped?

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik День тому

I haven't worked with Warmoth parts yet, so I'm not sure just how unprepped that is, and it all depends on what you are going for and what you have for a starting point. I would think that... Ash is probably going to need a grain fill or it will have the grain texture through the finish, if that's fine for you then go for it! I'm actually making a guitar right now that is meant to have a very rough finished look. and just doing some all-over sanding before applying the finish will make a big difference. If it's just got a rough sand from the factory then you'll have a pretty rough/rustic end product but if you take the time to sand it up even to like a 220 grit it will come out much smoother.

I couldn't have come across your video at a better time! I'm in the process of applying amber shellac to a Warmoth body Strat. I have a question and I hope that you see my comment. I have a rattle can of some nitrocellulose that I was going to apply at the very end of the process and I'm wondering what your opinion on that is? By the way new subscriber here!

Very informative. I'm trying to decide which to use - Polymerized Tung Oii or Tru-Oil. I'm guessing they are about the same.

Great video! I've been building classical guitars for several years with shellac finishes. I've watched multiple videos on "french polishing". Most of them are incredibly tedious and wordy with half the information here. I especially like the errors shown and recovery from them, having made many, many more errors finishing than I ever did in construction!

I am doing this at the moment.. Do you seal this with poly afterwards or varnish.. Or do you just stop with the shellac.. My issue from my inexperience I used Non Dewaxed shellac.. Grrrr.. Most top coats say not to be used with non de-waxed Shellac

You could try the Open D tuning on both. However since Chromatic Dulcimers are becoming more popular I suggest re-fretting it w/ new chromatic frets & making it a Chromatic Dulcitar but here's the other thing why not tune it up to G & call it the Dulciterz.

Since you had customized this, I would suggest that you re-cut/work the nut and bridge to allow the 2 hi, paired strings to be closer together as on a mandolin and 4 string dulcimer. I have actually seen all 6 strings paired up on mountain dulcimers, too.

This is definitely one of the most useful pedals on my board. I'm actually thinking about getting a second one. My favorite FX on it are the stutter, the liquid, and the rotary I think theya re the most useful. The bit crush is pretty awesome but at some setting it makes some really dissonant overtones (for better or worse). Flamma makes a headphone amp FX10 which is under a hundred bucks and it's absolutely amazing.

This isn't one of the ones I have, but I can tell anyone that the price/quality-usability ratio of most of these Behringer stomps is kind of outrageous. I'm lucky enough to have their copy of the Roland bass synth pedal, which they strangely have discontinued, last I czeched out their site. Their "two fuzz pedals in one" pedal, their Sansamp "three amp sims" pedal copy, their Heavy Metal copy...imo the HM pedal is more of a hard fuzz than a metal distortion per se, but nothing wrong with that... the Warp distortion, and the one i bought recently, their vibrato pedal, are all totally great. The other Behringer stomps, ive had those for over 10 years, and they're still 100% fine. The thin plastic chassis seems scary delicate, but as long as you dont go all Pete Townsend/Sybil on them, their build quality is quite adequate for home studio purposes. Maybe someone who has an actual band who plays actual gigs, their mileage may vary. Thanks for posting, it was a good demo.

Thank you! It's certainly worth learning a thing or two about the gear I've actually got a video coming some time... soonish? Where I'm building a new 1x12 speaker cab for my latest Peavey acquisition. It becomes a lot less viable to build larger cabs unless you have wood on hand though, I bought my Fender 412 for under $200 shipped used, the plywood for a 412 build would have probably cost me as much before speakers vinyl and hardware. Worth it for recasing smaller speaker arrays though!

Bro get you a tube amp. You'll never look back. It's not like playing them in the store. At home you come to realize how incredibly good tube amps are and the huge benefits from using them. I used to be right where your at. It took a buddy making me borrow his Tone King Imperial. I was truly spoiled. Tube amps do another thing I never expected. They take pedals WAY BETTER than SS. No disrespect intended my friend. Just a suggestion.

    • @junc_musik
      @junc_musik 9 місяців тому

Hey no disrespect taken, I have owned a few tube amps over the years and intend to add one to the permanent collection at some point but I do have a personal preference for solid state as my go-to for a couple of reasons -Tube amps sound GREAT with minimal rigs. You can't beat the warmth of a tube amp or how they react to a guitar plugged straight in to them. However, I find that the more pedals and stuff in between the guitar and amp, especially buffered pedals, the less of a difference it makes and the more I'm looking for fidelity, rather than an amp that has its own strong flavoring to give. Since I tend to play lots of weird and cheap stuff through them, I've been as happy playing a preamp DI'ed through a PA as much as any amp with such a rig -and also I'm forgetful and often broke, so the ongoing maintenance and tube replacements have me err towards the reliability of a solid state amp. Over the years when I was younger I'd only own one or two amps so I needed them to never be down over a burnt tube Though like I said, I plan to add one to the arsenal now that the collection has grown I appreciate the feedback

Ringmods are great for very specific song hooks, but few do that as well as Radiohead or Incubus (I imagine bands such as Mr. Bungle would also nail it).
