O that video was so lovely. Your mum is so special. Imagine being a vlogger at her age and she is so comfortable with it. My man used to play the piano in a pub in Limerick until she was very old. It was a very rough pub with lots of tough people but she loved it because they all stood around the piano singing with her and she didn't see any bad in them. She also played by ear .which meant she didn't read music. She used to say hum it and I'll catch up. I love your videos Penny. You have replaced watching tv for me!

How marvellous Helen that your mum saw lovely people singing with her, what memories. I'll tell my mum your comment - she is a natural isn't she. See you next time.

What a wonderful video. I wish my Dad was still alive to hear your Mum playing the piano. He loved all these old songs. Many a Friday night spent in our local pub in the 70’s, where an old Gentleman would sit and play these tunes. Thank you for some lovely memories 💕

Really lovely Penn. I was singing along with your Mum. She's right, we all knew the words to all the songs! Its great listening to all the stories you, Pete and your Mum have and all about Pete's Mum too. You've really got me thinking about paper piecing - I used to do it using Laura Ashley patchwork pieces, now that is a blast from the past isn't it. Loved them. Thank you so much for your time and letting us share your memories and crafting. 😊

Thanks Sandra, Laura Ashley, that is a blast from the past. I used to make my clothes using that material. So of its time.

Hi Pene, all lovely as usual. Your epp bag is very pretty. I need to baste some more hexies then I can add a little more to the quilt top. It's very scrappy and colourful. I do love liberty fabric though. Pete's story reminded me of my father in law. He often has us in stitches with tales of his youth, he's 88 this year.
I really love listening to your mum, she's amazing.
More garden crochet for me today. On the border of the first blanket. Hopefully can start the second very soon.
Hope your having a good bank holiday. 🌷🌈

Thanks Angela, You're getting on well with your blankets. Weather's changed a bit here, hope you're still in the garden. I keep remembering what lovely weather you had for your wedding.

So beautiful - the reminiscing was so nostalgic, your Mum is perfectly lovely, I could listen to her playing the piano for hours, her touch is so light and happy, listening to the birds and walking through the park was so peaceful, I’ve never seen poplars like that before. Thank you from Ontario, Canada for creating and sharing your vlogs, they are much appreciated.

Ontario how marvellous and yet we are joining up. Mum has got a light touch hasn't she. The birds and park is peaceful and I can't wait to get back. Thanks for your appreciation.

Goodnestone Park looks like a lovely peaceful place, seems as though you had the place to yourselves too. I'm sure Pete learnt his lesson not to go nicking from Woolworth's again after being made to return his loot, lol, so funny. I do love hearing your mums stories, and my mum would have been singing along with her songs if she were still here. Yes, life was very hard, my mum was the youngest of 13 children, 7 of the children died, how did people cope with things like that! We have it pretty good in comparison don't we.

Hi Maggie, It is a lovely peaceful place which is why I love it. Yes, the adults handled his escapade in such a good way I think and he was never tempted again! Oh my, to lose seven children, it doesn't bear thinking about, your mum must have been cherished. Thanks for sharing.

I certainly did sing along while your Mum played! I just love all of those old songs - I actually have quite a collection of old songbooks, dating back to Edwardian times and beyond, and I like nothing better than a good sing-song! Thank you for putting the words up on the screen. I love to hear all of yours and Pete's and your Mum's reminiscing - these little snippets of social history are always fascinating.
I also loved the bag that you made - it looks the perfect shape and size - I like one that I can comfortably hang over my arm rather than my shoulder! It was great to hear about Goodnestone Park, too, and the birdsong and the trembling poplar at the end were just wonderful! Thank you, Pene xx

Singing is so good for us isn't it, it doesn't matter about the sound we make! Mum calls people tinkers with a smile on her face, I think Pete was! The bag really was a find and so easy to do. I loved the trembling poplar it felt special as there was no wind that day. Magical.

Pete is a character! Nicking stuff from Woolworths😅.
You mom really knows how to play well, without many lessons. Beautiful! As they say, hindsight is 20/20 and one thing I wish is that I kept up my piano lessons. What fun it would be just to play some of the good old songs for folks to sing along. And yes, I was singing along!
Thanks for sharing. Loved the Anna bag.
Finally some spring weather here. I put the tomatoes in the ground today! And my husband thinks one of our new roosters tried to crow. Couple more months before we get eggs from the hens though.🐓🐔🍳
    Take care.

Well she played without any lessons - I don't know how you do that. An ear for music I think they say. She decided to have a couple of lessons with my teacher, why I don't know, because she could play but she thought she could improve but not with my teacher! The experience wasn't good! I love the Anna bag and use it everyday and simple to make. Glad the weather is improving - it's turned cold and rainy here - you can't rely on the weather here!

Oh my! That brought back a memory of my only experience with shop lifting. Yes, Kresge's in downtown Flint Michigan. There I was 3 or 4 years old with piles of tiny pink plastic naked babies before me, priced about 15 cents, I believe. One made it into my pocket and was later found by mom. I don't recall how she handled it but know that I never did it again, so must have gotten the lesson in a kind way. Thanks for the memories.

What fun and what a lesson! We just didn't understand that it couldn't be ours just because we wanted it! I hope you don't mind but I mention you in my next video that is coming out later today. I can change it if you'd rather.

My mum's stepmum could play the piano. she couldn't read music but she could hear a song and then play it, surprisingly as she was also partially deaf having lost her hearing when a bomb went off near where they lived. I'm not sure if she played in the pub that they ran in Finchley. From my memory of my grandparents I can't imagine it! but maybe she did. Jane, English but living in California.

Finchley! a stone's throw from where I was brought up. Do you know the name of the pub they ran? What a gift to hear the music and play it. My niece lives in California - I'll have to ask whereabouts.

Another great Chinwag Pen so much. Information. I love the handy size bag. Goodnestone Park and Jayne Austin. Fascinating fact, what a wonderful world. Aah another song😀
Woolworths Midnight in Paris, great joke. I remember it well, then it was so new, so much to choose from and was, If I have it right, initially, everything under sixpence, so an amazing place for children to be. That is of course if you had a few pence pocket money Pete lol. I think the artful dodger with his gang comes to mind😂. Great picture.
Super to hear some history about Grace and the disappearing Pete trick.
All those wartime songs brings memory of being squashed into nans front room with all the family for a singsong round the old upright piano, so yes all the children knew the songs and never to be forgotten.
Love the film and can almost see Jayne Austin meandering in the beautiful grounds and resting on the bench with a book.
Not forgetting the faraway tree. Loved it👏🏼👏🏼
