Thanks Helen, I don't think I've ever seen a sky quite like it. In the moment it was even more dramatic. Passed in a trice too. Feathers round the nose is such a lovely fact to stop him breathing dust I think. That present was absolutely priceless, I was thrilled - still am. xx

hi pene - thank you for the podcast - there's so much to love here. your friends continue to amaze me with their talents - a club you are surely in too - i wasn't prepared for that wedding needlepoint - just stunning. hot here. currently 102F @ 4:00pm - temp. will most likely go up still, before cooling off. yes, it's a dry heat... i get/feed hummingbirds every day - they are black-chinned - the rufous should be here soon. a few flickers now and then - that's the northern flicker - ground feeders but they do like to hammer too. and hopefully, the lazuli buntings will fly through again this summer. mostly though, it's just too hot for birds - or people. cheers! libby

We have hairy and downy woodpeckers that look very much like your black and white guy. Occasionally i will hear and see the pileated woodpecker. Think Woody Woodpecker from the cartoon. he's amazing. I had a red bellied in the yard earlier this spring which I don't see often. And once a red headed. He is gorgeous, but not at all common. I can't think of any green birds around here. How pretty is your green woodpecker! and I can't believe you get parakeets. are they an introduced species or do they migrate to the UK? Thanks for sharing. That cross stitch of your photo was amazing!
Hi Karen, that sky was indeed stunning, even more so in real life. Thanks for telling me about your woodpeckers, I read about them when doing my research so lovely to hear what you have seen. The parakeets were escapees in the 1970 and we have them more and more around England. Too many here really now, but they are cute. They don't mind cold weather so have done well. What a wonderful present that cross stitch was - treasured.

Morning Marcia, Tommy is the happiest child I know. I had him for the day yesterday. He is 18 months now. Asked me for the toilet, joked around all day, he is talking quite a bit. A joy. You're right Kay is a very close friend. We met in 1974. I just watch the film and choose from a list of songs I have. No apps. xx
