So glad to find you Moms! My son is 42 . Was diagnosed with psychoeffective in 2009 & hospitalized. No meds for 14 yrs. He’s been married 4 yrs ! Past year he has become more & more delusional and now is not productive as in unemployed and anosognosia is in full effect! We are now no longer his parents (we’re frauds & liars!) and has disconnected from us , even though we keep a roof over his head. I keep contact with his wife and am concerned on so many levels !!! My husband recently found out he’ll need cancer treatment (and we have no plans of informing my son. )

As a mom, I have to live WITH it ( my son with schizoaffective),
He has to live IN it.

Yes, so true. We are so very aware of this, and respectful of it.

I’d get him to a practitioner as soon as you can, and start educating yourself. Sounds like you already have.

My daughter’s been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar one November 20 22. She has anogsognosia . She sits in front of the computer all day looking for a job. We finally got her back home October 2023 at this point. I pretty much just let her sit around because I don’t want her to leave again. The fact of her being on the street is terrifying to me. My question is how do I go about convincing my daughter that she needs help. I’m just about tried everything and anytime I try to suggest anything I get all the abusive comments. She thinks the reason why I had her hospitalized was because I didn’t want her to live with us. She hates me, doesn’t really talk to anybody in our home unless she needs something. When we try to help, she tells us off. It’s so sad to watch her. Sit in front of a computer all day long looking for a job. She really goes outside, she’s written off all her friends. I just don’t know what to do. For most of the things I’ve read most loved ones get help once in hospitalized or in jail several times. Because my daughter is safe at home and I pray to God she stays there are not gonna happen to her 🙏🏻 so what am I supposed to do to convince her that she needs help? She doesn’t sleep she doesn’t eat it. The voices are constantly tormenting her all day every day.

Anosognosia. It’s the hardest part . Check out the episode with dr Amador and his leap training. Not a cure but it helps

Also get to a NAMI support group and family to family. Education helps

Psychosis is a symptom of schizophrenia, and also a symptom of many other conditions. Schizophrenia is diagnosed by a combination and particular persistence of symptoms
