I moved from Creta to Taigun. Taigun feels a lot more fun to drive. 90% of the time I drive alone and it's compact form and peppy ride is such a delight! Now if only petrol could become cheaper 🤪
Kicks is the most unappreciated in this segment with strong performance and great ride & handling balance. I guess its down to the outdated interiors, but for someone on budget its got all the features one needs and you save some big bucks. Taigun and Kushaq are the dynamic duo and had to cut corners on equipment due to expensive engine/transmission combination. Without a doubt they are meant for petrol heads. Korean duo is all about the longest list of equipment, but being built on same platform which barely scrapped a 3 star crash rating; the choice is down to whether you want equipment or safety. As for Astor, it has the most bling and engine has legs to keep an average driver happy. There is no perfect answer in this category of SUVs and it all boils down to what one needs.
Kicks is also based on 0 star Duster platform in India. Overseas it's a different unit which got more safety rating so your statement contradicts itself.
Nissan Kicks has automatic climate control from base variant onwards. The only “features” it lacks is ventilated seats, sunroof and an air purifier! But we Indians want all!
Definitely Nissan Kicks stands out with its turbo engine highest horse power and high ground clearance. It is one of the underdogs against it peers. i am using Nissan kicks for the last 3 years and i can confirm that it has a very good build quality and very rugged SUV ..In the last 3 years, I had 0 issues, low maintenance cost and comfortable with very good safety features.... What more can anyone ask for..
Nissan should play bit smart here . Launch new KICKS with full options CVT at around Rs15.50L and this will sell like a hot cake. Many people who comes to buy MAGNITE sees the KICKS at the showroom and NISSAN should lure them by launching 2022 model and price it just below the Creta .
I own exact same Kicks CVT Gray colour. I had initially booked Seltos HTX+ IVT without even knowing about Kicks and I was waiting for Two months for the delivery. In the meantime, I wanted to Test Drive SCross which I liked from its appearance. But stumbled upon nearby Autorelli Nissan Showroom for Magnite Test Drive; they told waiting period was 4-6 months. I was disappointed and while turning back saw a big monster inside. The lady told me it is Kicks and they had CVT for Test Drive (I was looking only for automatic). I just took it for few KMs and the driving dynamics, handling, suspension, overall engine response to my tunes, I didn't know that it was the biggest and the most powerful Mercedes Engine (GLA class ₹45 lakhs range). It's I-SVPT suspension, dominating 17 inch diamond cut alloy wheels, good road presence made me to rethink. After another Test Drive with my wife, I cancelled Seltos went with Kicks. It is giving mileage 12-13 kmpl while driving within City at 2000 RPM and 19 KMPL on highways.
I did the comparison 5 months ago 😀 and went with kicks manual, I guess everyone will have their preferences, I do lot of highway drives and it's perfect for that, the extra ground clearance for kicks is great , the manual feels lot faster as well , it does lack the interior which the other cars have but I prefer the way it drives over the extra features
Good choice. Kicks really a under rated one. Build quality is very good, highway stability is good. Major thing is hydraulic steering man, you will feel the steering. I loved it.
Ya i made the same choice 1 year ago. The moment I drove the manual turbo I decided this is it. I liked it more than Creta and Seltos whose non turbo variants were at the same price point. Have driven it thrice from Bangalore to Kerala and it has been always awesome ride.
The top end of Kicks interior is much better than other cars in this comparison. It has 4 airbags, 360 degree camera, auto headlamps auto wiper and has leather seats and leather inserts in dashboards and all other touch points. Kicks is now running at a 1L discount mode. If you plan your purchase at the right time one can easily save 6L buying kicks and invest the same in Index fund for 15 years and can make a total of 40L+ in returns 😂.
Brought taigun GT plus two months back covered about 3500+ KMs , reaaaallly happy with the car , offers much better handling than Koreans due to stiff suspension
Test drove all the cars except the Astor, and went with the Kicks Turbo Petrol XV premium. It delivers immense power off the line, like in the video. True the automatic lacks punch at the top end, but shifting it to manual makes it an amazing car to drive. I have been finding excuses to drive the car everyday.. Its a joy! Yes, the interiors are drab..but i dont mind it.. Its functional and works for me, especially at such a low price point compared to the others. I kept up with an Audi A8 on the highway at over 120kmph without breaking a sweat.
For a purist and driving enthusiast, none of the other cars can even hold a candle to the VAG 1.5 TSI cars. I test drove all the cars in this comparison barring the Kicks before buying the Taigun GT Plus and I don't even need an excuse to go for a spin every day and that is how much fun it is.
The most underrated and most value for money of this lot is surely Nissan Kicks. Excellent driving dynamice, stability, engaging performance, superb steering, top notch NVH and last but not the least, a true tried and tested engine (same on entry level Mercedez too).
I test drove all these but must say Kicks is a pleasure to drive. Cancelled Seltos and booked Kicks. Afterall how much features we need and use and for how long. So far satisfied with the beast.
Can you please do a video on all cars that could be bought under different price segments like under 5lakh, 10 lakh, 15 lakh, 20 lakh. Without differentiating their class/ segment. Because some variants of a premium class car could be compared to top variant of an entry level car. To give an example, top variant of tata punch and low variant of Astor are similar in price.
I get all the necessary features in my manual kicks top variant 1.3 turbo xv pre option. A 360 camera, cruise control cornering fog lamps, rain sensing vipers, rear defogger idle stop , full leatherite good ac etc that too at 14.2 lac ex showroom . Show me a single manufacturer who is providing a top variant turbo at this price point … plus a ground clearance of 210mm and a solid build quality and japanese nissan gtr dna mirror coating tech together with a gem of an engine even used in merc benz a200. I am not sure why people are missing on this japanese gem for some gimmicky low build quality , no use features… For sunshades i can buy a sun shades for rs 50. Have enough space in the car to keep different items… its a no nonsense go anywhere car … you will stand out for its sheer size which is biggest in the segment… A sunroof reduces safety if a car topples . We dont live in europe to enjoy a sunroof in this hot weather. Kicks has a usable roof rails capable of carrying 100kilo load…. Truely made for India… sadly Nissan is not good at marketing and gimmicky features… and how come creta is a new car . Its an old car facelifted.
Sunroof reduces safety, beside the roofrails provided in kicks is usable with loan carrying capacity of 100kilos. We dont need a sunroof in indian hot weather . Even the 40lakhs fortuner still doesnt have sunroof.

If I'm spending 18-20 lacs on a new car, I'll definitely go for the Taigun. It handles well, has great fuel economy and a better pickup than others and nothing really beats German engineering
Hope Nissan reads all these feed backs and review comments.. you have amazing engine paired with great CVT and excellent ride quality .. how much you need to refresh your cabin. Another 50 to 100 k, to give Leather seats, more airbags, LED lights as Magnite, rear disk brakes, Sun roof .. it would be a piece of cake ..
S-cross could have been included in the comparison! One of the most value for money cars. I am sure the facelift in the later part of the year could be a game changer if launched around the existing pricing!
One thing as the owner of Taigun I’ll like to point out, during the long highway drives - if you happen go over the speed breakers which are present (the 3 speed breakers next to each other) with speeds above 50 - in scenario when you miss them at night - the rear end of the car twitches. The limitations of the fantastic Taigun chassis are felt. Has anyone else felt that?
No not exactly rattles but it’s more like the front end of the car remains stable but the rear end for those 2 seconds seem to be all over the place and unstable (not like scary or dangerous of any sorts it’s still in control) but you feel the chassis doesn’t like being in such a position

All the hate the Creta and Seltos get online is unwarranted. I have a Creta, I couldn't be happier with it. It's looks have grown on me. The White and black interior looks clean and spacious. I really liked the comparison and clear the clouds of confusion. I will strongly recommend and wait to watch similar kind of comparisons for latest compact SUVs like Sonet, Nexon (Kaziranga edition), XUV 300 and few more.
Are you buying the car to have driving pleasure or because they sell well?. Also, driving pleasure is a nebulous term so we have tom, dick and harry all claiming that Astor and Seltos are also fun to drive so to each their own
What a relief! Autocar reviewer’s love for cars has not changed. Neither has the candid narrative. Unbiased and clear, your opinions are couched in simple terms. Thanks for walking us through a range of brands and features, helping us to narrow down our choice according to our preferences. And as they say, old is gold. Great job, Nikhil and Gavin!
Its crazy how the Creta still manages to top out in such comparisons and even in sales figures... hopefully Hyundai improves the safety rating of the next gen Creta. If it does, then it'll be my pick for sure... Apart from that, i really like the Taigun.
This is an excellent presentation. Would hugely help people who are in the market to buy. Great work guys. Are you planning on doing a comparison in the Venue/Sonet/Nexon segment?
Can we have some comparisons like kushaq vs Slavia n taigun vs Virtus (once available)? Both shares same heart.. n hope they have taken feedback from earlier launched versions n updated their sedans....
I really liked the bloopers 😁 Just one feedback.... on the editing department... the switch back between in cabin car mic volume to background voice volume seesm drastic... I keep fumbling with my volume to reduce and increae it from time to time.... But just a great and detailed review as always.... Loved it...
Anyone who's willing to spend 21L on these cars is stupid and should go n buy entry level compass. It's a different segment and is superior in every department. Anyone who's going to buy 1.0L engines of these cars for 15L is also stupid and should get Kicks 1.3 4 cyl Turbo. But our sheep mentality means we will book the one which has sunroof
For my choice is Kushaq and Taigun. Next Kicks and last one is Astor. I didn't consider korean sibling because of the lack of Build quality and safety.
Its extremely hard to look past the Seltos and Creta just for the reason how easily they are the most practical spacious and comfortable and 90 percent of suv buyers in the segment search for them
The smaller form factor, better driving experience make the German twins a better pick for Bangalore. Safety also is a key concern! Asian cars have been cutting costs with cheaper metals. Additionally, after a point a long feature list really does not add to your experience.
Why was the tata harrier or xuv 700 5 seater not included in this comparison, They pretty much come in the same price bracket and pretty much the same customer base.
Accommodating 3 passenger at the rear + creature comforts + diesel engine option with smooth TC gearboxes to choose from + cheaper to maintain screams value for proposition for Creta / Seltos.

Guys, any device/dongle available in Mumbai to convert wired Android Auto to wireless Android Auto?
I really liked the comparison and clear the clouds of confusion. I will strongly recommend and wait to watch similar kind of comparisons for latest compact SUVs like Sonet, Nexon (Kaziranga edition), XUV 300 and few more.
Others don’t stand a chance in front of 10K per month sales of creta and seltos.
No one publishes sales figures comparison in such reviews
That doesn't mean they are superior. Top selling cars in India is Maruti swift that has zero safety rating.
Are you buying the car to have driving pleasure or because they sell well?. Also, driving pleasure is a nebulous term so we have tom, dick and harry all claiming that Astor and Seltos are also fun to drive so to each their own
That’d be the most stupid stat to compare. Sales figures don’t suggest they are superior.
Yeah so an alto/wagonr sells more than x7 that mean they are better car, right genius
I still don't get why kicks isn't selling more
People pick new models with new features.. that's how it is in the auto sector!
Majority of Indians don’t understand cars!
Nissans image in India
Any comments on Taigun's AC short circuit issue?
In safety I think same as seltos bro
Slaiva has come in .
This is an excellent presentation. Would hugely help people who are in the market to buy. Great work guys. Are you planning on doing a comparison in the Venue/Sonet/Nexon segment?
Achi movie thi maaza aya with emotions, actions, screenplay, action and climax....with bloopers...
I like the making of the video the most...u guys did a fab job
Can we have some comparisons like kushaq vs Slavia n taigun vs Virtus (once available)? Both shares same heart.. n hope they have taken feedback from earlier launched versions n updated their sedans....
I m waiting for 7 seater SUV's comparison. Please update asap..
Taigun and kushaq are fun to drive but they have lighter steering compared to older vw skoda cars
IM NOT LEFT WITH WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW GOOD UR VIDEOS ARE … HATS OFF N KUDOS AUTOCAR INDIA
I really liked the bloopers 😁
Just one feedback.... on the editing department... the switch back between in cabin car mic volume to background voice volume seesm drastic... I keep fumbling with my volume to reduce and increae it from time to time.... But just a great and detailed review as always.... Loved it...
N-Kicks is the KickAss one!!
Legends read this comparison in the magzine already😁
Jeep Compass Sport variant should also have been in this lineup. Its in the same price band, and has turbo petrol engine.
Gavinnn! You're the best at Autocar brother!
I have a S Cross Zeta Automatic, 2020 YM. It's reliability & Price beats all above 😅
Its extremely hard to look past the Seltos and Creta just for the reason how easily they are the most practical spacious and comfortable and 90 percent of suv buyers in the segment search for them
Yes
The one concern is the 3 star safety rating. You would think for 15 lakhs you would get a safe car
Advance congratulations for 2m🧡
Hey baby.... Waiting for brazza 2022 💥💥💥💥
Please do such a comparison for Sub 4 meter cars.
Everyone appreciating Kicks in comments column but eventually ending up in buying other 5 cars ( atleast what sales number suggests)
The recoding juggle at the end reminded me of my voice-over narration during high-school annual day plays :)
Astor is putting up a good fight against their rival option. It has a good market standing.
Accommodating 3 passenger at the rear + creature comforts + diesel engine option with smooth TC gearboxes to choose from + cheaper to maintain screams value for proposition for Creta / Seltos.
Gavin and Bhatia killin it!
So great to see a proper performance comparison chart with real figures unlike hazy figures said by others...
Can you make a similar video thi Compact SUV
