    I can't get over how thrashed your bike got in one season. Proof that hard enduro really is a super tough sport. I think in 39 years of riding I only dented 1 pipe. And it was my wife that crashed my brand new 2018 yz250 lol. I'm running a fatty and 2.1 fmf cuz my buddy Davis gave it to me.

    I have the same setup on my 1995 CR250R and agree. I also have a 10oz STEAHLY flywheel weight. I was running the FMF Fatty, but am not a “top end” rider. I like to short shift and lug.
    In New England, it’s how it is, you find what works best for the roots rocks and mud.
    I like your videos, keep them coming.

    I believe the SRT's are a direct clone but slightly stronger. The FMF gnarly on the other hand is both reshaped for low to mid torque gains and is significantly more robust than stock.
    Also, on my yz250x I run the same setup as you on your '19 (gnarly and turbine core 2). I've found that it's the most cost effective option to get me USFS legal, and I like how the gnarly gives my 250 a better low and mid range pull. On the yz250x it does definitely kill peak hp and over-rev but for most riders I believe that the stronger low to mid makes the bike better overall in that it's more controllable and less prone to stalling.

    Gnarly to a 2.1 silencer on a 17 KTM 300XC. Always run the gnarly for increased low end, but stock pipe not much different performance wise on the 17. Higher compression head helps a bit more. Nice nomad

    I run the gnarly and the 2.1. I'm happy with both. I went with the 2.1 because it was recommended by a friend of mine who said it was quieter than the 2. Not sure if he was right but the increased bottom end I got from the combo was well worth it.

    • @TrailBoundco
      @TrailBoundco  5 років тому +2

      it makes sense that the 2.1 would be quieter more packing to quiet it down, never thought of that before though. will have to listen to my friends bikes next ride. the TPI are quieter though

    Update: 8/2019 - Experimenting with opposites: Running Green spring with dolly flush and a Pro Circuit Platinum Pipe. Slight bog on the bottom as expected but the power control is interesting. For hill climbing and flowy single track works well. The KTM Engine and Chassis are amazing. 7/2019 Running FMF gnarley pipe and red spring. Dolly turned in 1.75 turns. 2001 KTM 300 MXC. Works equally well on tight single track and wide open spaces. Cheers!

    I have a 2021 YZ250X. I been really setting it for the trail riding, tgats why i got the x model. With the lectron carb, v force reeds, gnarly lipe and turbine core 2 silencer my bike has turned into a torque monster. I can lug it so low now and it just won't die, and has the bottom end torque and linear power like a 4 stroke with two stroke fun love it. Got the power of a 300 ktm, and the agility and ease of riding of a 250. My bike totally whoops my feiends 97 ktm 360sx now to. And that bike is scary.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 5 місяців тому

      Those are pretty much the mods I a doing to my 2019 YZ250. I will use the stock carb because I am pretty good at jetting them, but I also will use the V-force reeds, (the stock reed stop plate actually blocks off the rear reed transfer tunnel about 50%, so I did open up that tunnel a bit too. I port 2-stroke engines for a living.), but not the stock aluminum spacer plate on the stock reed black, (for less crank case volume, and a harder hit). I had to fix some port champers, (the exhaust was tough on the rings), but I did not alter any port window sizes. I have the Gnarly bolted on too, and I am happy to read your results. (I won't ride mine until spring). But, I did one other thing for more low end power. I lowered the cylinder by not using the base gasket (seal it with a good gas proof sealer), and that lowers the exhaust port time by a couple degrees duration, to better match the lower rpm target of the lower rpm pipe. That also raises compression (90 octane gas is too low for the stock YZ), and it will need to run 100 octane gas. The nice thing about all these modes is, they are all reversible. So if it hits too hard, I can raise the cylinder back up or add that aluminum reed block spacer plate. if your bike is the low end grunter you say, my additional mods may be too much. But I doubt it for my sandy whooped out trails.
      I found your input more informative than any YT vid I have found.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 5 місяців тому

      Oh, if I like the lower cylinder, I will machine off the cylinder base gasket thickness when I rebuild it, and use the gasket.

    Try the hydra-force dent remover. Worth the 120 bucks

  • @RobboRobinson
    @RobboRobinson 4 роки тому +1

    If and when you bash that thing up be careful when blowing it out. The newer shape pipes with the new mountings are difficult to refit after using say a hydraforce water blowout kit. The problem is the pipe wants to straighten out. To over come this fasten something around the exhaust collar 'O' ring end and loop it through the bracket hole that would fasten to the front of the frame. use a piece of chain or strong cord. This will maintain the correct distance between the bracket and exhaust inlet collar. If you don't do this it will be a cow to fix.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA Рік тому +1

      As a kid, I once sealed the pipe with about 20-25 psi air pressure from a bicycle pump, and used a propane torch to heat up a pretty good sized dent in the belly section. I had a wet rag ready in my other hand to stop the movement, and it came out almost perfect. That is why I don't care for chrome pipes, because the heat will make it ugly. But, I have done enough things in my life to know, that when you do a process the first time and it comes out good, it is a good process. :)

    Im thinking getting a 250 2 stroke but at moments got 2005 kx85 bw, my old clean 99kx 80 sw was more powerfull, heard due to more grunt as 26mm carb rather than 85 28mm, jets on kx80 58/122 kx85 45/145 not much in it 1.5bhp or so bit noticeable running stock bikes
    I can't seem to get the 85 to fully hit band in 6th but all other gears fine, does it need a top end and or maby same size jets as the 80, or shall i rebuild the whole engine, have jug ported and polished, fit lectron carb then fit fmf fatty front then shorty rear or Q or turbine 2 to make more quiet so dont get heard riding it as much lol.
    Is the loud short fmf really give more bottom to mid better than the Q or Turbine core2?
    Or will just fitting Fmf fatty and Turbine core 2 leaving everything else standard get the 85 faster than the 80 ever was?
    The 80 power band was more violent to.
    Any ideas guys on what to do get it running better?

      Same as that actually I had to put a spacer between the pipe and bracket to keep it out from the shock and then put a hose clamp over the rubber bit where they meet as the silencer wouldn’t push in fully and line up with the holes. It leaked air but now that I’ve put the hose clamp and some high temp silicone it’s fine

    I have two different silencers for my 250xcw. I've noticed with the TurbineCore 2.1 that it gets really spooged up and with the Powercore 2 there's no spooge at all. Does anyone else notice this too with the Turbinecore?

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 5 місяців тому

      The "spooge" is because your carb is jetted rich, (carbed bikes come rich from the factory). Learn how to Jet the needle and the main jet, (light brown spark plug color at full throttle, all dry), and the spooge will burn before it gets out, and you will gain about 2hp. The reason why one silencer is messy and the oth4r is not is probably because the packing is sucking up the spooge on the clean one.

I’ve found that I haven’t smacked my pipes on the 19s as much as previous years. I think it is because they lifted the pipe up and tucked it in closer to the bike everywhere. I’ll still end up smashing the hell out of them in the diamonds but it’s just taking longer than normal
