    this guy has really good form, but if anyone is having trouble keeping their feet up they should remember to look straight down while swimming, this relaxes your neck muscles and elevates your hips. hope this helps!

      Bruce Wayne floating is taught as a very basic swimming skill... you must not have ever had formal lessons

      @@krisztianwirsz3612 hehe, no I had formal lessons and used to float very very well. I retained the ability to swim, but lost my floating skills. Through scuba, I noticed I naturally rest with my lungs mostly deflated, so that's a main reason I sink.

    I am a noob and had been struggling with breathing. Felt like dying of heart attack after just one lap. i have been swimming your way, taking it slow for two days now. today when i stepped out the pool i wasn’t exhausted. no more drinking pool water when breathing during swim. Thanks a lot :bows
    These are mistakes i had been making that i corrected after watching this channel’s videos:
    1) keeping my head too deep in water, always ended up drinking water after breathing
    2) lifting head to breath, rolling by side actually helps maintain balance
    3) most important, exhale until water cleared of mouth when breathing. SAVED me from water entering my nose and panicked swimming.

  • @rickstokes2239
    @rickstokes2239 3 роки тому +9

    What you said about beginners having too much air in their lungs to stay balanced really made sense to me. With that being true and having large legs because of being an avid cyclist I always struggled to maintain a good horizontal position. Very helpful information.

    One thing that helped me get more planer was swim fins. I was pretty fat. The fins helped get my legs up, distribute the effort and helped be build the core and upper body tone and endurance. Once I got my distance up, I weaned off the fins and my legs stayed up without them. Now my butt nearly rises out. :D
    The only laps that I splash a bit are when I mix in 100 sprint sets.
    My daily swim is 6.4KM (more on weekends), 5 a week.
    Smooth is fast :D

    I’m 73 now but I love the first few lengths I do when I get in a pool especially if it’s only me in the lane. It all feels effortless and smoothe. However, I then quickly get out of breath and my muscles tire. Then my stroke gets ugly and I’m in survival mode for the rest of the session. That doesn’t stop me doing up to 100 lengths in an hour (mixed crawl and breaststroke) and in any case swimming for fitness is about effort expended rather than distance and efficiency isn’t it? I’ve only just come across your you tube videos so hopefully I can improve!

    1
    00:00:00,492 --> 00:00:11,463
    Smooth Freestyle
    부드러운 자유형
    2
    00:00:12,827 --> 00:00:24,957
    Knowing how to swim smooth freestyle is essential for lap swimmers, triathletes, open water swimmers, waterpolo players, crossfit athletes and basically anyone wanting to swim as a workout.
    뺑뺑이 수영자, 삼종 선수, 야외수영인, 수구 선수, 크로스핏 선수 그리고 기본적으로는 운동으로 헤엄치기를 원하는 누구에게나 자유형을 부드럽게 헤엄치는 법을 아는 것이 필수입니다.
    3
    00:00:25,029 --> 00:00:28,356
    The first thing to note is the position of the body.
    가장 먼저 언급해야 할 것은 몸체 자세입니다.
    4
    00:00:28,558 --> 00:00:35,998
    The more horizontal your body is, the easier it will be to swim though the water without a lot of resistance.
    몸체 자세가 더 수평일수록, 저항이 더 적어지므로, 물을 헤치며 수영하기가 더 쉬워집니다.
    5
    00:00:36,310 --> 00:00:39,673
    The main issue people have is that their legs sink.
    사람들이 가진 주된 문제는 다리가 가라앉는다는 것입니다.
    6
    00:00:39,737 --> 00:00:45,041
    To compensate they start kicking faster, then they get tired and their legs sink.
    이를 보완하기 위해, 사람들은 더 빠르게 차기 시작합니다. 그러고 나서 지치게 되면 두 다리가 다시 가라앉게 됩니다.
    7
    00:00:45,155 --> 00:00:49,604
    The reason the legs sink and the upper body float is the lungs.
    다리가 가라앉고 상체가 뜨는 이유는 허파 때문입니다.
    8
    00:00:49,699 --> 00:00:52,901
    The lungs of a beginner are always full.
    수영 초보자의 허파는 항상 가득 차 있습니다.
    9
    00:00:53,015 --> 00:00:57,837
    This causes the upper body to float more and the legs to sink.
    이렇게 되면 상체가 더 뜨게 되고 두 다리는 가라앉게 됩니다.
    10
    00:00:57,965 --> 00:01:06,286
    It is better to have just enough air in the lungs to do a few strokes and exhale underwater before taking a small breath.
    팔을 몇 번 젓기에 딱 충분한 양의 공기만을 허파에 유지하고, 숨을 작게 들이쉬기 전에 물속에서 내쉬는 것이 더 낫습니다.
    11
    00:01:06,384 --> 00:01:12,503
    This will sink your head and upper body a little, making it easier to lift your hips.
    이렇게 하면 머리와 상체가 약간 가라앉게 되고, 엉덩이를 띄우기가 더 쉬워집니다.
    12
    00:01:12,623 --> 00:01:17,907
    To master this technique, it is essential to know how to breathe properly.
    이 기술을 숙달하려면, 적절하게 호흡하는 법을 아는 것이 필수적입니다.
    13
    00:01:17,986 --> 00:01:22,002
    That’s why I made the freestyle breathing video.
    그런 이유로 저는 자유형 호흡 비디오를 만들었었습니다.
    14
    00:01:22,073 --> 00:01:25,951
    The next thing to master is to reduce excess drag.
    그다음으로 숙달해야 할 것은 지나친 저항을 줄이는 것입니다.
    15
    00:01:26,202 --> 00:01:32,700
    Advanced swimmers actually use very little energy to go forward while swimming smooth freestyle.
    고급 수영자들은 실제로 부드러운 자유형으로 헤엄칠 때는 매우 작은 에너지만을 사용합니다.
    16
    00:01:32,828 --> 00:01:37,024
    This is because they have reduced the drag of their bodies as much as possible.
    이것이 가능한 이유는 몸체가 일으키는 저항을 최대한 줄였기 때문입니다.
    17
    00:01:37,254 --> 00:01:39,847
    One big part of it is the legs.
    저항의 큰 부분을 차지하는 것이 두 다리입니다.
    18
    00:01:39,936 --> 00:01:42,929
    Try to avoid bending your knees too much.
    무릎을 과도하게 구부리지 않도록 노력하세요.
    19
    00:01:43,156 --> 00:01:51,250
    For smooth freestyle doing a few narrow kicks, maybe one or two per stroke, should be enough to keep your legs a float.
    부드러운 자유형을 하려면, 팔 한 번 젓기에 한두 번 정도만 좁게 차면 두 다리를 띄우는 데 충분할 것입니다.
    20
    00:01:51,447 --> 00:01:54,772
    Finally point your ankles in plantar flexion.
    마지막으로 발목을 "발바닥 쪽 굽힘" (plantar flexion) 자세로 유지하십시요.
    21
    00:01:54,985 --> 00:01:59,306
    This will reduce your drag a substantial amount and will help you swim smoothly.
    상당한 양의 저항력을 줄이게 되어 부드럽게 헤엄치는 데 도움이 될 것입니다.
    22
    00:02:01,741 --> 00:02:05,792
    This exercise will help you swim a smoother freestyle.
    이 부분훈련이 더 부드러운 자유형을 하는 데 도움이 될 것입니다.
    23
    00:02:06,128 --> 00:02:18,953
    By having your arm above the water for a longer stretch of time, you will struggle to find a way to stay a float and use the muscles necessary to counter act that.
    팔을 물 위에 더 오랜 시간 동안 버티고 있음으로써, 떠 있는 방법을 찾으려 애쓰면서 이에 대응하는 데 필요한 근육들을 쓰게 될 것입니다.
    24
    00:02:19,711 --> 00:02:30,747
    You will also create a correct pathway with your hand in the recovery stage.
    또한, 팔을 되돌릴 때 손을 움직이는 올바른 궤적을 찾게 될 것입니다.
    25
    00:02:31,858 --> 00:02:37,131
    If you want to take your smooth freestyle to the next level, work on your core.
    부드러운 자유형을 다음 단계로 높이고 싶다면, 몸중심부근육(core)을 단련하십시요.
    26
    00:02:37,232 --> 00:02:41,833
    It will give you stabilization for a better horizontal position.
    몸체를 안정시켜 수평 자세를 더 잘 취할 수 있게 됩니다.
    27
    00:02:42,002 --> 00:02:44,479
    Work also one your flexibility.
    유연성 역시 길러야 합니다.
    28
    00:02:44,580 --> 00:02:49,449
    This will give you a better range of motion and reduce drag.
    가동 범위를 늘려주면서 저항을 줄이게 됩니다.
    29

    I just want to tell you I love your videos. I consider my instructor to be one of the best and you teach the same way, I am getting better at my freestyle slowly, I injured my right bicep when I increased weights too quickly. It has affected my advancing in my freestyle but I won't give up, I'm resting those muscles and compensating. The most important thing is constant practice and proper form. I am strengthening my core and have noticed as I do my flutter kicks improve as do some other strokes. Thank you for the great videos!

  • @humanonearth1

    If you're having trouble, I don't consciously think about taking the right amount of breath, it's likely just a normal breath for me with freestyle. So if your legs are sinking it's probably part the breath and part you do need to kick properly - I think body shape will also influence it a bit. I'd recommend working on your overall comfort in the water. Keep swimming more and more, practice your underwater dolphin kicks, mix up the speeds of your strokes and have a good time. Never panic, you should be comfortable floating, and treading water.

      Rhon Oz I breath both sides... that wasn't my problem I think, but stopped crossing my arms in the catch, started to do the exercises described in the other video (shoulder care) and my shoulder is not sore anymore. a little prevention and correcting technique mistakes did it for me!

      Try doing more hip rotation. If you swim flat, it is easy to overextend and hurt the shoulder. By rotating your hips from one side to the other as you swim, you will find that there is a lot less effort required to complete the stroke, and you won't be pushing the shoulder capsule to its extremes in range-of-motion.

    Damn, that makes sense, but I probably never would have figured it out myself. I'm taking huge gulps of air, then struggling to exhale it all over four strokes... so it seems logical that I'm taking on way more air than is necessary. I didn't really get the second part though -- is it just that the recovery portion (above water) shouldn't be prolonged? That means reducing glide time too, though... although maybe it's a better trade for efficiency overall.

    1. Which part you use when you push under the water?
    2. How you finish under the water?

    0:38 is it normal(albeit rare?)for the reverse to happen? My legs don't really sink but my chest does. I don't know if it counts but say I try to float or do any exercise where i keep an arrow position in the water my chest and head sinks under even if I'm on my back. I also can't swim down to the bottom of the pool even if I expel all the air in my lungs. I only assume my legs dont sink when I swim because of the fact my legs leave the water as I swim

    I loved your video. I am on my 65 and I started my learning on my fifts. Now living in the USA I am at YMCA. Although I have been practising my free style almost every day I still have problems on my kicking. I also bought duck finns because one of the instructors said would help me. I am using them, but I feel my legs heavy. I want so much to feel confortable on my free style. What can I do? My legs are still sinking. Thanks for sharing.

    I've been seeing a video where it was told that it's better to hold your breath and just exhale all the air just before you turn to breathe. Because the air in your longues gives you a better more horizontal position in the water. Can you say something about that. Would be bery nice.
