I did this to my 1988 Ford Ranger 4x4 truck a few years ago. I read a story in Hot Rod magazine that said paint your car for under $100.00. The mixing ratio that they said to use was take the cap from the mineral spirits. Pour 4 cap full's into the paint pan. It should be about like semi melted ice cream. Then roll on the paint. For any paint job either this way or using a spray gun prep work is 99% of the job. The more time if you have some the better the job will turn out. And using Rustoleum you have to wait 24 hrs. between coats and sand between each one. Would I do it again.? I don't know for sure.
I never even thought about painting a vehicle with a roller brush a brilliant Job shame it rained but at least you could go over it hopefully no rain and she looks amazing 👍
I believe that you have used emulsion rollers, you need gloss foam rollers for combi colour. Nice job, but if you rub down and recoat using the correct roller it will give you a better finish. 😊
A lot longer on the prep would have given far better results in the end. I shot blasted the worst bits of mine to make sure all the rust was removed before priming and then filling. Sanding should always be done with a backing pad or block as bare fingers apply uneven pressure. I took my doors off and did the pillars at the same time as the body so there weren't any lines where the two bits met. I also changed my roller frequently, persisting with a cheap, worn out roller drops bits of fluff in the paint and gives the uneven finish you were getting. When I had finished mine I took it to have some decals that matched the 1081boriginals applied and the bloke thought that it had been sprayed not rollered. In your defence, you had a couple of days, I was retired and had all the time in the world to sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, sand and sand again and could also let it dry & harden properly between coats.
I use foam rollers for interior paint, so know they make a perfect job of surfaces. But I gotta say that it's never crossed my mind that you could the same to a vehicle! You've both made a great job of your van! I love it! I may start looking to buy a cheap van now you've opened my eyes to this! lol 👍
Hey..new subscriber. Firstly, your hair is wicked! Secondly, Im about to paint my jumbo transit conversion. Been putting it off for months but you've given me a much needed kick up the arse! Well done guys. 👏 T
Hi lana, great job on the van ,not as easy as it looks, been there, done that, but prep and Patients is what you need, but it looks 100% like a trusted vw camper van now
Well, i took the plunge over the weekend, dull but dry.... got all the rust scabs sorted, fully coated the van with one good coat, woken this morning to full sun... thought brilliant, this will bake it on brilliantly over the day, by 4pm, full torrential rain, and you guessed it, marked all the new paint.. to say im somewhat deflated is an understatement. I just hope i get a few days to make it look better...😔
We did the same thing! First day it rained but it is quite easily covered up and you need to do a few layers so it sort of works! 😂 Good old British weather huh!
Dear Lana and Tomm, Well done. Story looks so great and I see you had a lot of fun despite the work. Now nothing stands in the way of the next adventure. Thanks for the interesting video! Kind wishes, Gerold
The van looks champion, I roller painted the lower half of our van covering the shabby silver and I was well happy with the way it turned out after mths of thinking will i won't i but I wish I done it earlier coz it totally changed the look into the swampy look I wanted, well done you guys 🤙
That looks great Lana I know exactly what you went through, I painted my boat using 2 greys with a boat you roller it on then lay it off with a brush, I tried starting early but by the time I dried it off the sun was already making the steel hot but I was happy with the finish so love your videos you seem very natural
Awesome job for a first attempt.. Adding paint conditioner helps with flow and in hot conditions. Looking at painting my van in the spring when it's a bit cooler. 🤘🏼
I did my boat with ‘spray finish’ rollers from a company called Two Fussy Blokes…. Great rollers!!!👍 Now have to clear coat it, but have had a problem with streaks because the clear coat is purple (???)… Thinking I put it on too thick
Van looks great all painted up, you made it look so easy to do! 😂 It's good you finally got around to doing it though as I know you've mentioned about wanting to a few times in your videos. Looking really good though like I say and looking forward to the next adventure in it now!
Looks great though. Matt and rolling is the right decision if you are afraid that you will have to weld something again and then paint over parts. A better finish can be achieved with a primer/filler from a spray can, or with a coating such as Raptor. Good luck
Preparation is the key. Should have bought a paint sprayer 😂😂 would have saved you a lot of time and effort. Did you use water with the grit paper? 🤔👍🏻👍🏻
I loved this van and now im interested to buy one just wondering and hopefully you can help me with info .. what brand and model is this van not sure if i can find it in California USA Help please
Great job Lana, I think it turned out great. Did you apply any type of clear coat for protection? I’m assuming you didn’t due to the low cost. Thanks for your hard work, test job for sure. This is Alan, GREETINGS from Riverside in Southern California.
😅i rollerpaint My car this spring too. Its Look very good For on old car, My car is Audi A4 -97. After i paint my car, My ladies daughter wants to paint her Mercedes too. And one Day she came to visit and drove her car to The garage and start to sanding. IT took 7 days and her Mercedes change to color.. and she loves it..

Must admit I didn’t expect the van to turn out as well as it did. Looks smart fair play 👌👍
@1:56 An entire day "filling in any cracks". Sounds like you had a great time. 😀
Great tips before I paint my 09 sprinter. Great result and thanks for sharing guys
Good luck!

Thanks so much! 😊
The repaint looks 100 times better
Whole new meaning to rock and roll.
hi Lana, you really need to do a final coat of Clear, make it shine also a protection. Excellent content, well done both.
Thanks for the tip! Will do!
Use 2k clear coat if you can. It is a spray but it’s the best off the shelf clear you can buy without using a compressor

What color is that? Is it just grey?
I liked the 2 tone 😎
Did this for a living a while back , yes the key is the prep work but still looks good well done both 👍

Great job tempered on doing mine like that
I’m stunned … good job 🎉
Heads up! Top job guys, any T4 saved is a big big win for me
Thanks! 😊
When you put your hands on the , are leaving body oils on it so when the job is finished you still could have a problem with the paint staying stuck
I did my boat with ‘spray finish’ rollers from a company called Two Fussy Blokes…. Great rollers!!!👍

We actually didn't do the clear coat (even though we definitely should've) so can't offer any advise there!
Why hello there my fellow men and women of culture. Also: excellent tutorial!

Several good pointers
Looks good, have you remembered to register the change of colour on the logbook with dvla ?
Oh yes will do! Thanks!
Cool, Looks like VW Pure grey without the gloss finish.
Great job. Looks great. Much better than than the repaint I done on mine 😅
To be fair, that looks good, im looking to do my T4 too..
Thank you! Best advice would be don't use tape which is too sticky! Takes forever to get it off!

I have not yet but I will! Nice to meet you!
Storky looks great, you both did a great job,I'm very tempted to do mine, love the colour.
You can do it! But take your time and don't use the wrong masking tape like we did! 😂
What a transformation love it
Great job love the color, how many tins of paint did you use for that size of van, as I have transit
Hey, it was only one and a half in total, it goes a long way with the white spirit mixed in!
@@storkyadventures thank you..
Ooo I do like a good chassis 👌🏻
Beautiful 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Bravo !
Nice job both of you 🙂

Van looks ace! Thinking of doing that on Betty as a spray job is well pricey 🤣🤣 fab video as always x
Thanks very much! And good luck if you do!
Nice work looks cool 😎
Thank you!
Tidy. The van looked good too.
WOW what body work ?
Actually looks OK 👍
Hi, looks really great. Just one question.. do you now by law have to re-register the van so as to have the correct colour showing on the v5..?
Ciao bellissimaaaa....devo rivedere il video perché la tua bellezza mi ha distratto😊
autoglym Tar & glue remover a lot easier than rubbing the glue from the stickers.
Thanks for the video just brought an ex ambulance what colour name is yours please what do you think of gloss finish over the Matt finish thanks Ryan
Can I ask why did you add the white spirits into the paint? Is that what it says to do on the tin or is there another reason as to why? Thanks 😎🙏
It thins is out and makes it easier to apply apparently 😊
Hi, Lovely paint job looking at doing my van, did you use satin or gloss ?
It was a matte finish we went for in the end! 😊
looks amazing 👌👌

Curious, why a roller instead of a rattle spraypaint can?
Im debating doing my van like this because of the rust etc and cant afford a reapray ha
I think its worth it if you can't do the professional re-spray like us!
How not to prep a van for paint vid but enjoyable vid
What van?
Nice🎉
Its a shame you didnt show any up close images/video of the finished job. Have you uploaded any detailed photos elsewhere ? thanks
It's looks groovy babyyy...
Why didn't you use wet and dry paper? Always thin coats then sand then recoat
Nice job, big improvement. How much paint did you use ?
Most definitely a hot one 🔥
Good job, exelent,,
Good video!
