Old Tom Edison could watch this with a massive amount of joy and even a chuckle or two. Keep trying until the light stays on. He didn’t have Squarespace or Patreon to help cover the costs of failure. A woodworker’s attitude holds tight however. Now I’m less inclined to give up and I’m grateful for that message.

I like it overall and am glad you persisted. However, the column isn't linear, especially noticeable at 12:29. I believe you can clear up the sanding marks by hitting the ends of the acrylic with a torch after sanding. Lastly, perhaps you could embed a big washer right where you want the coaster. Then embed a magnet in the coaster so it homes and stays put. Hope not to insult, just pose food for though. Fun build!

  • @MakerMaddox

Wait, does the book not mention making a form for it to set against when in the bag? I've always known those as "vacuuform bags" meaning you need a form for the veneers to set and dry against. That would also eliminate your bag trouble as you're putting a solid block form in there. In your case a sandwich form.
I do not know woodworking but bent ply veneers I do for some reason haha

I can only think you must’ve misread some thing. Whenever you’re bending multiple laminates you need at least one end free to allow for the slippage. If you’re making a flat piece then you can tape and clamp The two ends but I would still start in the middle and work my way out or work from one end onto the other just to make sure there wasn’t One of the veneers longer than the rest so that it would not be able to lay flat and cause a separation. By the way thanks for the tip about talking to Mary Ann. I know her too. Never thought about getting vinyl from her to do a vacuum bag.
