The first time I saw a pocket knife in a Western was Scott Glenn putting one away in Silverado. I have a Barlow from the 60's that I carry but I have several of them. They make for a perfect kit knife.
Good morning, Arizona Ghostwriters. It's ted from texas. Pretty cool about the history of pocketmost. I did not know they dated back in history so far. Thank you, man, stay safe.
Eagle Knife Company in Lakeville, Ct made popular folding knives during old west times. The redbrick factory is still standing. I recently discovered Opinel pocket knives from France, handy, lightweight, well made little tools.
That makes sense why the pocket knife was so popular back then. It's size, and functionality must've come in handy. As ALWAYS, Santee, your accompanying clips are so appreciated, and enjoyed.🎊 I'm so glad you included The Duke. 🤠🔥💥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🔪
It's not an Old West knife, but I carry my Leatherman everywhere. One of the handiest tools I own. If I have pants on, I have a knife, unless I'm in a Courthouse, Airport, hospital, or one of those place where they freak out over things like that. Very cool video Santee!
This episode is awesome!! I still have an old Case pocket knife that belong to my grandfather. He was born in the 1880’s and I’m sure this knife comes from the early 1900’s.
Santee, Great Video Thank You For Sharing. About Old West Knives ,I collect Case Knives. Thanks Again Sir for all you do. God Bless Y'all You and Mrs. Santee.
I do enjoy the Sharp wit. Very enjoyable. Did you ever do an episode on Bowie knives? Probably, but I can't recall. If not I may have a friend who could be if big help. Has several bowies of various sizes.
Unless I'm going into a doctors office or government building where they are going to be picky, I always carry a pocket knife. I always figure it's always good to have one and not need one rather than vice versa. After I had an issue with someone at my work (technically while at third party training) assaulting me when someone else asked to see my knife (long story), I only carry a multitool on my person at work for reasons, but carry a beat up milwaukee work folder in my bag just in case.
Mines a Barlow that my gramps use to cut up and peel Apple's with remember kids if someone gives u a knife give em a coin if not it cuts the friendship also I have a old timer dedicated widdling tool knife it's for intricate wood widdling
@ArizonaGhostriders can't way to see the video on switchblades I have a handful of them they look like stilletos but they do have a weird locking mechanism you have to push one side of the metal like guard type thing to one side to close em
Ive got a very large folding knife similar to a spanish navaja as my EDC as a passive aggressive FU to yankee knife laws now that I'm in a northern state. (It's fully legal mind you but thats the point) That being said despite having a variety of folding knives, multitools, and everything else that I wind up using on a regular basis the one that gets the MOST use I own is a teeny tiny little folder with a slim but razor sharp blade. Fact of the matter is that opening mail is just far more of a regular occurrence than anything else I need a knife for.
yet another “never thought about that” video…i honestly thought that it wasn’t common there as i only saw bigger, more utilitarian knives were seen or depicted as being used in movies or on TV rather than small ones i legitimately thought that one of your colleagues would come out with shears in that bit: if you think about it, they’re just two knives put together at a central point 🤣 but that big knife? that was far better and sounded like you were genuinely afraid!
They ARE invaluable. I carry one all the time. I was told 15yrs ago that all old guys have a knife. Guess he was right.
HAH!
The pocket knife is something id say is arguably one of the most historically important tools ever invented and you gotta love them
Yep
100%. I have carried a pocket knife my entire life and I never leave my home without one. I honestly wouldn't feel complete without one.
Thanks Santee! Have a good weekend.
You too!

Do you all have a museum there detailing all the famous knife-making that went on?
That makes sense why the pocket knife was so popular back then. It's size, and functionality must've come in handy. As ALWAYS, Santee, your accompanying clips are so appreciated, and enjoyed.🎊 I'm so glad you included The Duke.

I've been waiting for this episode for a long time.
Glad you watched.
I still carry my grandfather's. He gave me my first pocket knife when I was 8.
Great memories.
Along with Barlow, you also had Kissing Crane, and one of my favorites, Boker.
So many
I'm never voluntarily without a pocket knife! Usually two. Thanks for the great video!
Great episode. George Washington was said to have liked the Barlow. A cutting blade and a small pen blade to keep his quill sharp.
Yep
I lernded something again, Santee. Thanks.
Excellent!
Great video Santee,
I really enjoyed this one. I tend to look for pocket knives whenever I visit museums, I like to see what men carried back then.

A great video, I have a couple of period knives. They keep a great edge and just needs to be stropped every so often
That's awesome!
@ArizonaGhostriders I got them at flea markets and pawn shops.
Santee, Great Video Thank You For Sharing. About Old West Knives ,I collect Case Knives. Thanks Again Sir for all you do. God Bless Y'all You and Mrs. Santee.
Carried one since I was 5! My grandfather took Me to the hardware store to get it!
Santee, I still get a pocket knife every Christmas. Even in my 30’s 😂. I love them.
That’s awesome!
If you shoot Colt pattern cap & ball revolvers, a jacknife comes in handy for helping to clear cap jams.
Speaking of jams, you can also use the jacknife to spread...jam.
Cool episode Santee! 🤠
Thank You!
Knife, sharp,OWWY! learned this when young.Got more pocket knifes than i know what to do with.Good problem to have.
another good video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Knives are great, but of all the tools ever invented, the shovel is the most groundbreaking.
I do enjoy the Sharp wit. Very enjoyable. Did you ever do an episode on Bowie knives? Probably, but I can't recall. If not I may have a friend who could be if big help. Has several bowies of various sizes.
I think the Texas Toothpick is based on the Navaja as well as the French Legouille.❤🙂
No doubt.
Cool video
Thank You!

I was just looking up navaja because I heard this tail that that's why the navajo are called the navajo because they were good knife fighters .

That’s a sharp looking knife you got there Santee but you didn’t have to cut this video so short.
HAHA!
Three things I carry in my car as I travel the US, a pistol, a lighter and a folding knife. I figure I can get far with them.
Great video Santee! I never go anywhere without a knife.... What knife is the you spin on the table?
Damascus blade with elk scales.
I can't go anywhere without mine

Have you seen a French Army knife 🤔 It has a cork screw and a white flag 🤠
I think the slipjoint has been around since the 1600s

Yep, they were common. She (Summer) has a folder that's nearly that big. Thanks for watching!!!
Interesting how the 12c knife was later selling for $12.95. 100 times the price. Now that's inflation!
Didn't you already cover this? Or am I misremembering.
Nope. We mentioned pocket knives in different videos...but not coverage of these.
@@ArizonaGhostriders ah, now I remember. Too bad you didn't mention the Barlow Knife song again in this one
I just bought one on eBay; less than $20. Nice and old, with a patina.....
I carry a GENUINE Barlow when I do my Civil war Federal impression. 😊 Ahh, not really. Its a reproduction. 😏
That's ok! WOuldn't want to lose an original.
