Another great video Santee, I hadn't given Western Horror movies much thought, but maybe this Halloween when Jo-Ann and I are sitting on the front porch handing out candy, I'll bring my tablet outside and watch a Western Horror movie while handing out candy.
That's the first Tremors film I ever saw, came on TV and I figured it was interesting. Have only seen the first one other than that, but I'll get to the rest eventually.
Hey there feller just last summer 7 of the 8 tremors movies was here on youtube for free not sure if theyre still free but they all are a good watch just dont do like the fiance and i did we watched one every night and ate pizza and junk food every night thats our saturday or sunday evening ritual
Two things struck me about that film. First, it was arguably the worst performance John Carradine did in his film career. Second, if you consider the film scenes without the vampire character, they come across no worse than the average, B-Western in that they are not horrible, just rather corny.
Hope your Halloween is fun and goes well, Santee. Great video. Does The Thing from 1982 count as a horror western? Kurt Russell is wearing a cowboy hat in the move.
Thank you so much for sharing some of the old western horror movies which I literally forgot about. Now I have to start looking at some of them and see which ones I think are the best.
This was so cool. I had no idea there were so many Western, horror movies! Leave it to you, and the rest of the talented crew to locate all these super videos and audios, Santee. 🤠👏🏻🧟🧛👏🏻🤠
One of my absolute favorites is "exit humanity" a zombie outbreak a few years after the civil war, with Confederate holdouts kidnapping survivors on rumors of someone immune to the plague in search of a cure
Tremors 4 will always have a special place in my heart. It is a terrible film compared to the first, but it was filmed at Calico Ghost Town when I was a kid and my mom was working at the Calico Cafe. Got to meet Michael Gross and thought that was just the coolest thing.
Santee, Happy Westernween. Thank you very much. You and Mrs Pew Pew have a beautiful and blessed weekend. Hug the kitty cat for me. LORD GOD Bless and stay vigilant.
While not horror movies per se, a number of lesser known Spaghetti Westerns leaned towards horror and/or had horror elements, such as "Django the Bastard" and "Django Kill" and "And God Said to Cain." There were a handful of others, but those are ones that came to mind.
If I'm not mistaken the ones with supernatural elements would fall under the "Weird West" classification. Weird West is actually a pretty fun setting you see in video games and Tabletop RPGs where the setting is the Old West but there's lots of supernatural elements like demons and the monsters...a video on the subject would be pretty cool and could introduce more folks to the setting. There's actually a TTRPG with the setting called "Deadlands" and one of the classes is called the "Huckster", they cast their spells using poker hands and their spell book is Hoyle's Book of Games. If I ever get the chance to play the game as a player instead of possibly having to run the game as the GM (this remains to be seen with my group of gaming friends) I'd likely run the Huckster class just because I like the image in my head for the class lol.
Western and Horror... two of my absolute favorite genres, they go together like peanut butter and jelly :-) But I also love sci-fi westerns, like Westworld or a few of the old Star Trek episodes
Very awsomely awsome and interestingly informative video, I really liked and enjoyed it, I learned a lot about horror westerns in western cinema and got a lot of inspiration for my old west frontier, mario, zelda, retro nostalgia childhood whimsy culture and paranormal horror inspired writing projects, that Im writing a new interconnected story for today since this morning. Great job, well done and keep up the great work. Todays story is set in a old west frontier, retro 50s/70s era and pirate era city known as Torr Laa Providence City on a island that I named Tortunga Isle, which is southwest of Great WindFish Isle, where my other interconnected stories take place. Four of my stories charecters are DahsLin, his sister ShyShi and thier friends Cuhàhìm(Cuhveen) and his sister Tahraeli(Tahra). I think I,ll definitely check out some of those horror western movies at some point, so I can get some halloween and old west story inspiration.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Thanks. Right now Im getting further inspiration ftom true paranormal videos, stories and encounters as well as lost and scary animatronics for halloween story inspiration. The parts of my story I,ll be working on writing next are video game sequence scenes, I think writing video game mechanics and sequences are easy to write in words and no visuals.
Discovering the genre of Western horror movies was a surprise to me, as this is my first encounter with it. From the examples you've shared, they seem to be quite amusing.
Great video... you gotta see Dead Birds 2004. It takes place during the American Civil War, 1863,... (be forewarned historical accuracy is not this movie's strong suit, haha). But entertaining.
I wanna see a Hateful 8 scenario but with a murderer that kills people one by one that is ACTUALLY scary. One that has the audience on the edge of their seat and in fear yet, also engrossed enough with the mystery of who the murderer is. I feel like this is a do-able concept that just ends up focusing more on the mystery element than the horror and suspense most of the time.
Western Horror is such a great film and literary genre. Two movies that I haven't seen mentioned in the comments are From Dusk til Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter and Death Rider in the House of Vampires. You should check out a book of 8 short western horror stories called Bad Memories of Buzzard Hill written by some guy named Cory Andrews!
There was a old tv western horror I saw back in the 2000s where a bunch of College Kids Enter a ghost town and start being killed by the ghost or killers in it... I think it had the name "Tombstone" or something but every time I looked it up I couldn't find it. so its gotta be named something else.
Ghost Town is a solid choice, i saw it back in the 90s, on HBO, and a couple years later, it was one of the few movies we had available to ent at the PX at Camp Red Cloud. Now i gotta go see where i can steam it.
While not a Western, House 2 has an undead Cowboy (played by Royal Dano!) in modern times. One of my favorite comedy horror films ever, it has an Army of Darkness kind of vibe. Plus, there is a supporting actor that shows up about halfway through and totally steals the show.
I enjoy the music at the end of these videos almost as much as I do the videos themselves. Do you , by chance, have or could you make a compilation of these tunes to post on this channel? Thanks, James.
I remember many years ago watching a movie about a band of bounty hunters made up of former confederate soldiers who all happen to be vampires. I cannot remember the name of it and most people that I talk to about it have never heard of it though. I hope someone out there can recall it or maybe I am going crazy in my old age.
"Curse of the Undead," 1959. The gunslinger is a vampire, which gives him an edge in showdowns. Pretty good collection of '50s western character actors. It's free on Amazon Prime.
Michael Pate was the Vampire. He was a very busy actor back then, he could play anything from a Comanchero warrior to... Eric Fleming (Rawhide) was the preacher, tragically drowned during filming of a movie.
Great episode Santee. I didnt know there were horror westerns, but if you want to call it a horror western, I like House 2 "The second story", there the main character has a ancestor from the old west and he digs him up to find out he's still alive, due to a crystal skull, and that his ancestor was hiding from a evil partner of his from the past, that haunts the house waiting for the opportunity to steal the crystal skull and use its power to regain his immortality. But again its a comedy horror with a hint of western flare, if you havn't seen it yet, Id say give a looksee. See you down the trial Santee, and Happy Halloween.
I’m a big horror movie fan. Most horror movies aren’t really scary though. But I watched Ravenous years ago and it was truly disturbing. It is now part of my home movie collection.

Bone tomahawk is the reason why im afraid of going out late at night in a dark area, i can't imagine just walking in the middle of nowhere knowing that a group of tribes are spying on me in the hills
Theres one Horror Table Top RPG with a Western setting called Deadlans it has a lot of common pop culture monsters (zombies, vampires and werewolves), folk monster (wendigos, sathsquatch and chupacabras) as well as some other weird stuff. It's called the Weird West afterall ;)
A few more are,
Dead South, Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter, The Lost Brigade, Vampire Wars . All civil war vampire movies. Cool video Santee .
Thank You!
I agree full heartedly that Bone Tomahawk is the most scariest. But also has a lot of realism of the dangers of the Old West.
Yep!
OMG Ravenous is one of my favorite movies! Glad others like it too.
I was going to say that too. Also seems like the highest budget of the lot
@@ToddHayseed-114O19 I still think Kurt Russell's mustache should have won an Oscar for Bone Tomahawk.
It's so good!
Bone Tomahawk was an intense movie! Absolutely wonderful but totally caught me off guard a couple times!
Yeah!
I would say brutal. Roy Rodgers would not have approved.
Was that the one with Kurt Russell ?

It featured the late actor Billy Drago

There was also a very good tv series that you can find on dvd too. Only one season but was true to the movies and is canon to the movie timeline.
Nice to see Bill had your back. Great episode! I agree that Bone Tomahawk is the scariest.
Right???
"High Plains Drifter" is arguably a ghost story
It is.
Billy the Kid Meets Dracula: bullets won’t hurt the vampire but hitting him in the face with the same pistol will. LOL
Two things struck me about that film. First, it was arguably the worst performance John Carradine did in his film career. Second, if you consider the film scenes without the vampire character, they come across no worse than the average, B-Western in that they are not horrible, just rather corny.
