I'm very glad this show exists because seeing the game be played is cucial in my opinion. When I heard the rules I thought this was the dumbest concept for a game I've heard in a long time and I wouldn't have given it a second thought but seeing it be played and how much fun it is actually made me want to go out and get it for my next game night. Great job you guys, keep up the awesome work.
I was exactly the same! just ordered it after watching this :) the tension is great, also just watched "watchitplayed" do a playthrough, they have cameras on the cards so you can see what they have and it was killing me! I was almost shouting at them to play a card hahahah
Same here! Someone recommend it to me but after reading the description I thought this is a weird game. After I watched this video, I ordered it. It looks like so much fun. Great video!
that was really funny :) I enjoyed . Thank you for doing these playthroughs. Great job on camera edit and you making these videos so amusing. Best series on board games here.
It's legit, but I'm not a fan of it, preferring to call "STOP" only when a player is interrupted by a phone call or something along those lines. I want to ride the flow of gameplay, but others' tastes vary... -WEM
I actually can see how the people around the table are enjoying the game, the game is quick rounds game, looks fun , entertaining, and pretty simply , it wont satisfy player for full night but as one of the games to start the evening :) nice game run and discussion , nicely done .
Dave is funny 😂 It would be so hard not to laugh playing this. I had overlooked this game so many times because it seemed like a concept I wouldn’t find fun, but you made it super enjoyable. I REALLY LOVE watching you guys play ❤️
You guys are awesome. I like The Game and I love The Grizzled. The tension when you played the game wow, sounds like this game has my name on it ;) Thanks for a fun play through.
WOW!!! I can't believe that you guys won that game!!! That was a TENSE last round! Kevin was the best. You could see that he was really into syncing up with his team mates. Crazy video!!!
It's amazing that watching y'all play this game is entertaining at all, but you guys are great and it actually is. I guess watching you all watch paint dry would probably be fun, too. A party all the time!
"The Game" from the same publisher is the spiritual predecessor to this game. "Hanabi" also has some similar things but The Mind is pretty original. -Lincoln
The rules state that you may play only the lowest card in your hand, so you can't do that unless you have only the 100 in your hand - but if that's the case, then you know you should play last, so why make a play that will definitely cost you a life? -WEM
One thing. I love you guys very much; have been watching since the beginning, but when someone is explaining the game, it seems a bit rude to the game explainer and those that are trying to learn the rules when people at the table talk over the one explaining the game and finishing what they were trying to say, but in their own words. If you want to explain the game, then that's fine, go ahead. If someone else is doing it, please let them explain it all in their own time. They very well could have been intending on saying the things that were interjected by others later on down the line.
That's what you would think... BUT! we've been playing this game exclusively since this episode came out. We don't have the game. We re-purpose another deck and ketchup packet were used as life counters and throwing stars.
@@Syncopator There's something in the sync beween players part that feels awesome and makes you have that easy laugh they're having. Like wtf it's working. ahahah
As a social experiment it looks amazing. A non-verbal communication game that clearly gives a rewarding feeling when a tricky passage is navigated is great. Definitely not for my groups, but fun to watch. Dave was hilarious.
Lincoln Damerst Thanks for the suggestion. You seem very enthused about the game! I will give it a go when it hits retail stores in US. Good job on another great video from you all :)
I'm agonizing just watching this.... heh! I think that this game will cause me to have a heart attack. I do think that it is creative, unique and fun, still. Great job, guys and gals!
Dave described the what is effectively the birthday paradox when saying how crazy it was that 2 consecutive numbers were often drawn. The birthday paradox is meant to point out how unintuitive statistics can be for people, by pointing out that only 23 people need to be in a room for there to be a 50% chance that two people have the same birthday. This number is MUCH lower than people would guess intuitively since the pool is 365 days. This deck only has 100 cards, so while I haven't done the math, I'm sure the odds of consecutive numbers, even in the lower rounds, it way more common than people would guess.
What's insane (!!!) is how fun this was to *watch*! ...with the lowest word-count of any Game Night... :D That must have been a really tough edit, Lincoln, since you had to capture everyone's expressions almost all the time!
After a while it becomes very clear that when Dave calls 'stop' it's because he has a card that's close to the one that was just played. Seems very much like cheating to me.
Chris Brummond no the point is you should just put your hand on the table without saying anything. Facial expressions often say much more than words. It was intense but I think there was cheating
What would happen if you had 2 lives left, And the moment the round starts (let’s say in round 6) you play the 100 card. Does everyone just discard everyone of there cards becuase ALL there cards MUST be less than 100. And then just lose 1 life and win the round since you had 2 lives?
You could play it that way but it isn't in the spirit of the game and I believe the rules state you must play your lowest card. Wouldn't you rather play the game as designed and experience the joy of a round well played? It truly is amazing when you succeed. Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln
The mind is a great game however watching this alot of you had serious tells for the other players without realising it. Which is the hardest part of this game imo
I can see The Mind getting a nomination or recommendation for it's innovation, but winning the Spiel des Jahres is less likely. One of the things that the jurors look at are how a game plays with different groups. The Mind might not click with children the same way it does with adults. Anyone on the autism spectrum would have a lot of difficulty with The Mind.
I thought it sounded so terrible when I bought it (I bought it because it got so many awards), and after we began playing it, we COULD NOT STOP. We played for hours, it was so funny. We allowed talking and it still didn't help you win. We would come up with crazy references like "if I was a snake, I could bite you" etc. Which imo, made the game sooo much more fun and literally did not help at all haha.
I’ll admit I had zero interest in this game just reading about it, but after watching you guys play it, I’m going to get it! One of the best game nights ever!

You still lose a life, though, and there's no guarantee that others won't also have cards in the 80s and 90s, which means you've wrecked any chance of having a good rhythm for the round and make it less likely you'll make it through safely. -WEM

Ron Wood when that happens you play the cards face down and do not check if you succeeded until all cards are played.

Such an awesome re-implementation of "The Game" but we're not likely to play - too much tension. I have a job for that!
Oh my gosh, I need this game!
This looks amazing! Any idea when it comes out in America? I didn’t see it on any of the online stores.
Josh Walton Pandasaurus is picking the game up for US distribution.
Lincoln Damerst thank you!
I agree, one of the best episodes ever.

So what happens if someone plays 100 right away? 1 life right? But an entire round could be won immediately. Is this correct?
The rules state that you may play only the lowest card in your hand, so you can't do that unless you have only the 100 in your hand - but if that's the case, then you know you should play last, so why make a play that will definitely cost you a life? -WEM
Is there an extended version of this game? We typically have 8-10 players for game nights.
Break them up into 2 groups! Actually, I came here wondering the same thing. Why only a 4-player limit?
Cool !!!
Oh my god I laughed so hard watching this :D
Anyone know where I can get a copy in the UK?
TheZenEffect Amazon (perhaps .de if not .co.uk)

I cannot believe this game delivered the most entertaining episode of Game Night I've seen to date. Brilliant. Fascinating. Just purely fascinating.
YOU can't believe it? When Lincoln originally told me about this game, I thought, "THAT'S a game..?"
I agree it somehow works and Dave keep laughing is funny too
This was fascinating to watch. I don't know that it would work with my regular game group but it looks great.
I was thinking the same thing-- seems more fun to watch than to play. At least when these guys are playing it...
Jeff3210 you would be surprised how much fun the game is to play. The joy of playing cards correctly is just amazing. I recommend The Mind so highly.
Lincoln I would give it a try for sure, probably at a convention though. I just don't think my normal groups would be too interested.

OMG!!!!! My heart was pounding the entire time!!!! This is by far the scariest game I have seen yall play!!
Is that the way the Stops are meant to be used? Seems like a really big signal from Dave every time.
BoardGameGeekTV In this instance it seemed to be a definite “don’t play! I’ve got the next card too” which is definitely communication.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. Also the way Dave looks away, we could all tell that his cards were higher.
You can look away or put your cards down, as that doesn't count as communication.
People should try the next version of the game called ‘the mind extreme’
The game was so intense, no one could do basic multiplication anymore LOL.
What do you mean?
He is referring to when Kevin couldn't figure out how many cards would be in play when we each had 8 cards in our hand. :-)

I'm gonna publish the binary, octal and hexagesimal version of this game.
Loved watching this so entertaining. We love playing it, so much drama but every time you do a level it’s like the most amazing thing.
One of the best episode EVER!
This game doesn't look interesting at all. But your reactions kept me watching. It was pretty entertaining.
