A bit of bleach definitely helps, i do that with all my denim. Also vinegar in the liquid fabric softener compartment helps remove residual detergent. Freezing does nothing for bacteria reduction, most bacteria can survive being frozen and thawed out.

I wash all my clothes on HOT and use fragrance free sensitive detergent and line/hang dry. cold water doesn’t remove any stains or hard to clean spots etc. so I wouldn’t expect cold water to take out odors and bacteria etc. either. I wash my denim jeans once a month depending on how much I sweat in them or what activities I’m doing while wearing them. I only wear denim clothing in fall & winter time so I don’t do too much sweating in them but after every wear I make sure to turn them inside out and hang them up to air out
