  • Here's some video of what we went through during the build. There were plenty of changes before the first test drive! Thank You for watching, Jeff My friend Tom earlier in this video has passed away some time ago and my friend John is now in a home. Sad times, yes. Take extra time to enjoy/appreciate your friends which are still here.

      steve Little Your very correct on the idea's thing. When friends would stop in or be helping they would have a idea for a change. I enjoyed that things were brought up. More ideas in the pool are great and then you grab the best ones! There are times where people who helped on the build (or not) stop by and go riding. Where this has been together for so many years now friends stop in with their kids and take them for a ride. Pretty neat to be part of all the smiles. Thank you for your comment Steve, Jeff

    I've been building karts since the early eighties, and every one slowly got bigger and heavier, I went from small 2 strokes to 900 bike motors with full independent suspension, and they were
    more like sedan buggies by the end of that craze.. I then went back to small and lightweight RZ-500 powered rocket, and completely blew the others away.. 230kph+..
    Nowdays it's Chinese stationary engines and torque converters, and even less weight.. but still loads of fun though.
    Thanks for posting, I only wish I had more footage from back then..

      Bill Moser Hi Bill. There are days now that I look back at this project and can't believe it happened (and filmed it!) I always hope this motivates people to give their thoughts a shot for a build. Just so everyone knows this wasn't my first try at a build. My first ones were quite crude looking and very basic. It's all is a learning experience which can be beneficial later in life. Glad you enjoyed the vid Bill & thank you for your comment, Jeff

    Yes, this video was shot in the 90's, you can see the fashion of the 80s left behind lol. Awesome build, it's cool to see stuff like this, it reminds me of the simpler days before all this advanced technology we have nowadays.

      Hi lemmik1900 Nice to know your enjoying the video! It's one thing to see such a project all done & functional but I hoped everyone would get a kick out of what was behind the build. So many things were changed as the build progressed. This thing is very easy to drive & it don't take long to get use to the controls - I always wish every one could take a spin!! And yes I'll keep the cameras rollin' - there is so much more original stuff here that I'll be mak'in vid's on that should surprise everyone, I'm new at this & just getting started, Jeff

    You should put some drone brains on your cart. Combine drones, rc cars and a go cart. Say if you wanted to extend your distance through a virtual headset have the vehicle drop a relay and not relying on a satellite. You could pickup a good drone then clip the power to the drone motors then plug the drone into cart(with some modifications) and you'll can have full control(a follow drone could help with relays or even drop relays itself).

      2jeffs1 Awesome! Yeah, youtube is definitely a cool advantage to this modern era. A way for people who enjoy the part of life where you build, fix create, and have fun. to share that with other people. One thing i really noticed about the video, is you filmed it back then, almost like you were making it for a youtube audience. I guess mainly you just did a good job documenting it, but it really shows how it was going down. Just works out perfect for youtube. Looking forward to more of the crazy fun building!

Getting so far into some areas and not happy knowing something won't last then back track for a better design happened a bit. The best part is to correct things before claiming a final built piece. Thru the years a few suttle changes happen for that icing on the cake result. Glad you enjoyed the vid, Thanks, Jeff

      +harold witham Your right on them 750's. Them were some great bullet proof engineering at that time. I got to know the guy at the motorcycle salvage yard pretty good and he took it in trade for the Interceptor engine that is on their now. The Interceptor had a aluminum radiator. He asked If I could settle for a different one where he gets a lot of money for those. Ended up with a copper V65 Magna which works just fine. I also could of got that other dash cluster in the vid for almost nothing but it just looked too cheesy. :>)

    Hey Jeff, what it the thing called that was stirring the paint and where do you get them ?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  6 років тому

      Hi Cody. Seems they were called agitator cups. There is a piece that drops in with a magnet that has a blade on it. No mechanical drive to it and makes it easy to clean the cup out. The air drive motor is located in that black colored base. That is one thing that I never had to take apart. Would be neat to see what is all inside that! Was some pretty cool engineering in those days. Seems I bought that from NAPA, many moons ago....

    Excellent vid man! I was about 10 when you were shooting this, hanging around a similar shop with my dad and friends. Do you still have this same place?

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  8 років тому +1

      +J Clouse I've been here since 1986. When you watch some of my video's they are older footage of this place in the background. I can see where one would think it is a different place where I have done so much work on everything here. Never do much tv & had people ask if I ever sleep! It's neat to hear that you had a place to hang out and learn some things. To see things done is always much better than reading how to in a book or trying to comprehend an explanation.

      Hi Clayton. Sorry - I don't have any build plans for the kart. However in the near future I wanted to make a video covering separate sections of the build and everyone could take things from there. To keep costs down much of the build was created from what ever was laying around here that could be used in the build.

    What are the front rims off a old Vega or Monza

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  10 років тому +1

      The rims were from that MG that the front end came off of. Your right - the Vega's and Monza's had an identical looking rim. Actually my ice studded tires are on the rims from that yellow Vega in the background of the Cannon video. Them were the slotted ones and not the 4 spoke though. On the newer Kart vid's the chrome rims were ordered from American Racing Wheels for a Vega. :>)

    • @2jeffs1

      wesleyb82 Actually the whole idea behind this in the beginning was a 1 seater with no suspension. It kept getting bigger as time passed. We called it put the part on, cut the part off syndrome. As it got bigger the girlfriend named it the Cadillac Go Kart.

    :D is it your dad who built it or was it u?? :)

    • @2jeffs1
      @2jeffs1  8 років тому

      +samuel olofsson I built the kart myself. However I built many prior to this one. By tinkering one can learn a lot by trial and error. Parents knew nothing about the automotive industry, enjoyed carpentry stuff and worked in factories. Good catch on the engine. It was affordable where the guy that owned the motorcycle salvage yard came here for auto servicing, got to know him quite well and gave me a super deal on the engine and accessories.

    This doesn't really show you any of the build there's a lot a flicking around with the cam real quick. it would have been better if you had shown it like how to make the steering and how to fix the wheels on and connect up the engine to the axle and the brakes get where I'm going with this.Ii want to build my own one but there are parts of the build I just have no clue about.

    • @2jeffs1

      +Brian12227 Hi Brian. Yes I am totally aware of your concerns and you are correct. This was shot way before YT times for my home movies which were just for fun and not educational as you said. If I knew YT was coming - absolutely they would be shot with much more care and detailed explanations. However if you would like I did recently do 2 movies with a detailed view and explanation of it. I have an extensive hoard pile of parts upstairs and some that were used, not sure of what they were from. Here is a link to those video's in case you would be interested. ua-cam.com/video/ioaZf5fNvhM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/sWAMB4605-8/v-deo.html Thank you for your concerns Brian, Jeff
