That’s badass, when I was a kid my neighbor put two chainsaw engines on my go cart because the brigs engine died and it was so fast and only 2 inches off the ground. I got chased by the police and I got home before they caught up to me but they knew where I lived And knew my parents so that wasn’t the best day for me. Nice build even if it’s almost 30 years ago.
That might have took place back in 1991but it's still awesome ! The way it was built, the color you had it painted and just all around it was outstanding ! Thank you for showing your video!
+CASANOVA Lovers 1982 Your welcome. Where this was built way before the YT days pretty happy now that I did some video of it at the time! Really appreciate the kind comments!
1991 is the year my F 150 rolled of the line last year of the brick nose body style. Its cool to see this video considering I wasnt born for another 6 years lol
+tofubob10102 Thanks. It was a new challenge for us here. Usually I can visualize where things are going but this one actually had no idea most of the time. Try things and see how they look/work. Educational and fun all at the same time.
I'm sitting in my room watching this and I actually got a wiff of smoking tires at the end of the video as you wailed it around and around burning off about $50.00 worth of tread. Beautiful job, looks great.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video as well as all your other one ! I bet that was a heck of first ride ! Your cart looks like you spent a lot of time figuring the dimensions a well ! I am starting a cart of my own with yours as a guidline ....... I see too many people make them too narrow and short ! from the tricks I have seen you do in other videos you solved that problem ! Thanks again
If that date is correct, you built this before I was born. Ha. I love this build. I have a 1996 yzf 600r that has a blown head gasket. I'm thinking after I fix it I might just make a kart instead. Ha.
And - yes that date is correct. :>) Altho I'm much older now I still feel like a kid. Friends stopped by in curiosity and ended up helping out. Maybe you would get lucky like that too! When it was finished everyone had a blast testing the final result out. That's where every minute invested is so worth it. Do like your 600r thought. That extra power always increases the fun factor!
Sulfur City Homestead Hahah, If I would of had this when I was younger I probably wouldn't be alive to talk about it. Built many different ones thru the years. Usually 3 to 10 HP. They didn't have those fancy torque converter clutches for briggs yet so I was using car 3 speed transmissions that the shifter came out of the top to get speed & power (and reverse). :>)
hahah, super sonic seat drier :) DUDE freaking Animals!!! Don't Bring me down! upside down fender painting looks like fun. hahah, scooter's a smart dog. :) That machine is such a freaking beast man. Super worthwhile project. I really need to get working on feeding some oil into my wood stove. So seems like an important part of the deal is to have a pan for it to burn in. The one time i tried it i had it go right onto the wood, and it was really an inconsistent drip. i had a tractor gas tank, with a valve on it, and i just closed the valve alot to keep it from going to fast. but the copper line going in the tank would heat up, and suddenly all the oil would drip out super fast. That was about all the effort i put into it :)
Hey Tom. Yeah no music I'd refuse to work. When friends talk about movies I have no idea who is who. Never watched much TV. Now YT - that's different :>) The Scooter dog lived to be 18 yrs old. I think they really enjoy it where people come & go and get so much attention! That dog played the best game of ball ever. She would return the ball exactly to you so it would get tossed again. Didn't get another dog for years - that was too hard to deal with. On that kart build I can't remember what even possessed me to do that. It was neat on how people would stop in to see how it was coming and end up helping on the build. That project did cost me a lot of Millers though! After it was drivable friends that helped on the build sure had a blast driving it !! On the oil stove if you decide to build one & have some questions I'd be glad to help. Cheers & Thank You for your comments Tom, Jeff :)
Hey Brother. Just caught up with ur video. its 2016 june 27. took me awhile. yall do very good work I bet by now yall get it done pretty good. Name's Gary Im from Chatsworth Illinois. Looks like im going to be building myself one of these bad boys. take care now ya hear.
no1garbologist I bet that would be a riot getting some sand roosters. One of the tire sets had a v shape and pumped the mud pretty good until they wore down!
It's a wonderful build. I also want to build my own. How much horsepower does the engine have? Would a twin engine with 6.5 hp each work for a smaller version of this?
The engine that I used is 103 hp. Actually 1 - 6.5 hp would work just fine. One don't need to rip up the yard, It's fun just to go cruising around in a machine that is home built!
That was fun to watch, early 90's VHS video, really reminded me of my childhood! I'm curious what the life of this buggy has been, in the 25 years since it was built! It still looks new, has it been rebuilt a few times?
+DeathByJeep The paint is all original yet. The front face of the rear fenders have a lot of stone chips which is expected other than that the paint has held out quite well. Several years back I had to do a bunch of general maintenance. Carbs needed a rebuild, air shocks were leaking, new chain, and it was hard to push where the brakes didn't release good. New seals & such and all is good again!
I also want to build something like this but I'm terrible at looking at something and guessing the measurements. Is there a website where u put plans like or similar to this or is a trade secret? Anyway nice video keep it up
aj baxter Hi aj. Like your trade secrets comment! :>) On this build we would lay things out on the floor to try to get an idea of how things would look & fit. Then there was when things would get welded together and wouldn't be happy with the looks so they would get cut apart for a better idea that came along. Sorry for no plans but never be disappointed on what you come up with. This was far from my first build. Gotta admit my first ones years back were pretty crude looking and not the fastest but lotsa fun to drive.
hey im getting ready to build one with a 600 snowmobile motor maybe even the 500 honda shadow motor i got.. i was wondering how long it took u to build this?
jerry robinson I had around 2 years in spare time invested in the build. There was a lot of time wasted on things that didn't look adequate or just plain wasn't happy with. Building a second one would be much easier now seeing things all done & being able to copy. That's why I posted this, hopefully to show things that might be helpful and time saving for builds. Good luck on your build. I'd lean more toward the Honda Shadow mtr - but that's just me....
Where did you get your drive hub ? Having problem getting 525 sprocket from motor to jackshaft & jackshaft to axle which is a 4 bolt pattern sprocket axle hub. We appreciate any help you can give me. Or the Project's going to end up being a bust.
Hi Craig. To mount a metric sprocket on the rear axle I had a browning taper lock bushing and a sprocket which was like for a #50 chain. We machined all the teeth off, then machined it to fit that metric sprocket for a motorcycle. There are different styles, here is a link with pic's to get you started if this helps out. www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=JVnwWpT6D43mjwTIgJPACQ&q=browning+taper+lock+sprocket&oq=browning+taper+lock+sprocket&gs_l=psy-ab.3..33i22i29i30k1l7.1798.17712.0.18442.29.28.0.0.0.0.126.2202.26j2.28.0..2..0...1.1.64.psy-ab..1.28.2198.0..0j46j35i39k1j0i131k1j0i67k1j0i46k1j0i20i264k1j0i131i67k1j0i131i20i264k1j0i22i30k1.0.qLz6wFj03Do
i want to build something like this ..but i want to use a furnace oil tank(floats) for the frame..an old big red motor and likely no suspension...it will have paddles inside the rims ..its just for crossing the river ..its 10 miles to some land i have accross a river ..or about 40 miles if you go threw the woods on the other side of the river...i used to canoe to work with chainsaws and diesel can ..it sucked loading the canoe every day..easier to have a tow bar on an old buggy already loaded with your tools ...it will no way be as cool as yours but you get the idea
mark yeomans I enjoy looking at homemade creations. You give 10 people the same task and you will have 10 different versions. Thru the years I've seen some very original, cool homemade creations. When you get to meet the builder in person & chat - well that's the icing on the cake!!
Dude, what is up with that heater?? That was an old tractor fuel filter. Cool i have 1 on my mud buggy. So how is that or why is that hooked up to your wood stove?? Thanks for the info.
The filter keeps fine dabre from building up in the flow control valve which changes the flow speed. Many updates to that since this video. Here is the completed design and how to build it in case you would be interested. ua-cam.com/video/VjAbDpjRUyw/v-deo.html Thanks for stopping by Ken.
Years back all kinds of things were going on here from field car races, to blowing up air bags & engines and shredding things with the backhoe. So much fun had by so many! Your right I do miss all the craziness.
That is something I always wondered too. My best guess would be ~700 LBS. I put some grab hooks on the front and rear because we got it buried/stuck bad more than once. I took a pretty good tug to get it out!
This may have been recorded in 1991?. But from what i can see you pretty much predicted youtube. you talked and set up your video exactly like a person from youtube would. i literally thought you were just using a really old camcorder
ghostrider433 Hello ghostrider433. Very interesting where you brought up that you thought I was using an older camcorder. That is a one that never dawned on me. Sure made sense! So many things here thru the years seemed to come together almost, well, as you said very well. The biggest difference is one can see I have aged a tad on the newer vids...... :>O
the stig mach 1 Quite a bit of the materials were from things laying around here in the hoard pile for years. The engine came from a motorcycle salvage yard and the steering parts came from a MG midget that I got for next to nothing. The rims & tires were the most expensive thing and were bought years after it was built. Never been professionally raced for $ tho. Also It gets driven by friends usually in the yard here.
Good catch! Yep - That was from a 76 Chev Suburban. Was saving it for a possible future project but after this fuel injection stuff became more available stored engines here that had a carburetor were eventually sold. :>(
+T H You are definitely correct on your thoughts. Unfortunately this was shot in the early 90's my camera work could of been much better. If it could be re-shot I'd make a lot of changes for sure. Any of my current time video's shot for YT I made sure that has been corrected.

This is a pretty amazing build! Especially considering I was not even out of high school yet lol

+812archer4life Cool comment! Still have great fun, just the builds/challenges are different now!
That's awesome.
Love it! Thanks for the post!!
StoneColdT Glad you enjoyed it - and Thank You for your comment StoneColdT!
love the music in these videos
The radio is cooking out the jams... especially the one from back to the future...
+Shannon Lacey Must have some good tunes to make the project go better.
Of course... working in silence could be classified as torture.
what is wrong with the 61 pepole who disliked. awsome carte dude

"Off one of them go-fast bikes.." funny stuff. Nice build, what became of her since the 90s?
What kind of engine for power plant..???
Slick build...

I think the shot at 1:20 was the best lol
very good video

Great go kart! what gauge are you using for the frame?
+conse01 Thanks. 14 gauge, .080 is the rectangular tubing thickness.
This is truly amazing Jeff! Did you use aluminum for the rear axle?
MrTechgeek123 Thank You! I like your way of thinking but no it's 2" steel and machined down to 1-1/2 on the ends.
I also want to build something like this but I'm terrible at looking at something and guessing the measurements. Is there a website where u put plans like or similar to this or is a trade secret? Anyway nice video keep it up

Nice

nice go fast - i have Suzuki 1200 cc - how much to build me one...
Hehehe i sdk you whats up with your heater then i watch more video then you say something about drain oil hehehe. Cool tell me more please.
ahhh the good ole days. definitely not like now a days,
Years back all kinds of things were going on here from field car races, to blowing up air bags & engines and shredding things with the backhoe. So much fun had by so many! Your right I do miss all the craziness.
Would have been nice with a hookeup for a snowplow
how much does it way works nice

awesome 1991 ,lets see hmm i was 19 had hair down too my belt and was wearing tight jeans and a leather jacket .

ok, now its time to upgrade to a V8
Ion Racer I like your way of thinking!!
7:10 Back to the future lol.
when was this uploaded
1991
But you guys can build some cool stuff ,is this from 1990
Sure is George. Really glad I did some filming of that project. Who knew YT was coming some day!
Video for the 16s thumbnail form 2030
Is that a 454 lying on the floor at 7:18?
Good catch! Yep - That was from a 76 Chev Suburban. Was saving it for a possible future project but after this fuel injection stuff became more available stored engines here that had a carburetor were eventually sold. :>(
I like to place my order for one now please
difficult to work with a hot nice girl like that..... dont get me rong guys but im excited to see both
Ну почти как Lamborghini
just how slow does your internet have to be to take 23 years to upload a kart build?
haha best comment here!!
it's not easy to upload beta to UA-cam. lol
Slow the camera pan down...
+T H You are definitely correct on your thoughts. Unfortunately this was shot in the early 90's my camera work could of been much better. If it could be re-shot I'd make a lot of changes for sure. Any of my current time video's shot for YT I made sure that has been corrected.
