    I was a teller for a couple months but was only 21 and wasn’t being serious about my career but it’s something I’ve highly considered getting back into in a couple years when my youngest can go to pre-k. There’s so much room for growth!

    Another good tip: if you have the same person coming in month to month to get what we call a cashiers check (some institutions may refer to it as something else) that is something you should pickup on. They are using it to pay rent and this is the perfect opportunity to suggest they meet with someone to speak about a mortgage. Also look at what else they may be getting these cashiers checks for, example if they are getting multiple checks to different institutions they are probably paying off loans or credit cards. This is another chance to suggest a debt consolidation loan and have all of those loans with your institution. I worked the teller line for 4 years before moving into my current office as a loan officer. The longer you do it the more aware you become of peoples needs.

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  5 років тому

      Very true. I moved into a Personal Banker II position after 5 years of being on the line & even then I would go work the teller line as well!

      Peter Campbell same! + I would stand right there on the line and open account and do loans! Many hats to where in banking that a lot of people don’t realize! I believe a lot of folks think you’re just a cashier when working as a teller!

    Dear Melissa, I am being interview by phone today, and I was a teller over 10+ years ago. I worked for Barnett Bank/Nation Bank as an Operation Manager before changes career. I quickly reality that I am more a Financial institution profession and returned back to college to give my BAS in Organizational Management. I have taking the Financial Center Operation Manager test and pass, also taking the relationship branch manager test and passed, I have not hear anything for relationship Branch manager, however the other day I did the assessment test for the Client Relationships and passed, so now I am doing a phone interview today at 11:00 and hoping that my responses get me in the door. Can you give me advise. I know it may be to late, but I figure I would try. Thank you and I have been listening to your video today.

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  6 років тому

      Nancy castanon neither, you can look online to see if the position is still available. They will usually take it down within a week of choosing their new employee. NEVER go into the branch to see if you got the job. That is unprofessional and rude because you’re wasting time that the manager was not expecting to see someone that doesn’t pertain to helping an actual customer.

    I worked as a cashier for a year recently(my last job) and I was pretty excellent at counting the cash. My drawer most of the time had an extra 5-10 cents that customers didn’t want in their pockets. So do you think that’s good enough for a teller.

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  4 роки тому +1

      Cash handling is very good experience to have when applying & the customer service is very important. However you will not be allowed to be over ANY. You just balance down to the very cent every day

      Mia Deckler hi Mia! Thank you for stopping by I saw your comment on my other video as well! If you do not pass the assessment test that you initially take you will not be considered for the position. The questions asked are all relevant to the position you’re applying for so if you cannot answer those correctly you would most likely not be able to do the job. I hope that interview goes well!! sadaf Sahar the schedule will depend completely on your institution. But 95% of the time you will work every day of the week. And you will want to because otherwise you’ll not be caught up with what’s going on and you’ll need to have your daily leads in order to sale everything possible

      Emily Nguyen you do not have to have any degree at all to start in banking, however, if you do have a degree in finance you will be able to start in a higher position which will obviously be at a higher pay rate than just starting as a teller. I am a Personal Banker 2, started as a teller 4 years before getting the PB2 position.

    Hi Melissa, I'm a guy. And I notice that on my local bank branch, that all the tellers are female. I went to other banks and most tellers are females and maybe only one guy working.. I'm actually interested in this teller job, so i'm doing research.. Because i'm a guy, does it mean that I'm gonna have a hard time getting hard? As it seems like Teller is a girls job.

    I think you said in one of your videos you're a personal banker..? How long did it take you from a bank teller to become a personal baker? And also, are you going to continue to move up in the banking world?

    • @MelissaFreeman
      @MelissaFreeman  6 років тому

      Rebekah Cristín yes, I plan to move into different positions as I go, however, I am taking a break from banking right now to be with my children so that my husband can do what he wants for a change! I was strictly a teller for 4 years before becoming a PB II. I also did personal loans on top of everything else so if I were to go back I would consider doing loans full time because I was really good at it! There are some employees that go in with more knowledge than myself and can move up after only 1-2 years 🙂
