from my point of view, this album is again a significant piece of art. Many fans consider it to be average, but i think this is because they were expecting riffs .But, please, judge it as a composition. If you listen to classical/orchestral music, you know that some great composers lean more towards atmosphere and the general composition.the harmonies, the pictures created etcA good metal album does not have to be all about riffs. its not rock n roll. Metal artists are allowed to expand and try different approaches. I believe that RC were aiming at a particular atmosphere and they did it right.peace n love ❤

yw. This is honestly one of the best, most artistic, most atmospheric works of metal I've ever heard. It's beautifully written, and very majestically performed without being too complex. I believe RC may be my new favorite band

Yeah I thought Immortal was the only Black Metal band I'd like (more of a thrash-death guy) but this album blew me away and made Immortal look...well...mortal haha
You probably never listened to Inquisition... Try "Desolate Funeral Chant". Sounds like track 2 of this album

I dont care what anyone says, whatever Sakis Tolis produces, plays and writes I will listen and adore. Such a great musician with such passion and respect for what he is doing. Having the experience of 25 years yet still so wise and down to earth. The best musician ever, the best band ever!

the lyrics are from the same title song by a greek singer Nikos Xylouris from the island of Crete .A great man with divine voice as it is recognized here in Greece.

I love the combination of primitive/folk/chanting elements with some of the doomy repetition and dark, focused riffs. This album is simply phenomenal.

Μάλλον το αγαπημένο μου άλμπουμ RC καθώς μου έκανε τρομερό κλικ. Δεν πρέπει να κρίνεις αυτό το άλμπουμ με βάση τα riffs, παρά με το σκοπό του. Ακούγεται το κάθε κομμάτι σαν επίκληση-τελετή εκφράζοντας πλήρως τον τίτλο του. Φοβερό feel, από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος. Αριστούργημα.

This is an amazing album. Sadly I have always avoided 'Rotting Christ' because I just assumed it was just another screamo band, but holy shit I won't be making that mistake again.
Every song has at least one part that makes the hair on my arms stand up and I don't get that much anymore.

Rotting Christ was the first black metal band i ever listened to and blow my mind with their unique melodies & riffs. Greek ancient lyrics and references are the "basic" element of RC albums. Epic
My first BM band too. Back in the year 2001
My first BM band was Watain, after that I listened other famous BM bands like Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Dimmu Borgir etc. however I never liked Rotting Christ they are weird BM band for me, it's doesn't sound classic for me.
I have listening since the early 80s, so tracing the development of the genre for 35+ years.
New layers are added as bands strive for originality both in lyrics, music and Tone,
The late 80s and 90s were just a little bonkers though.
I knew Rotting Christ from my early Metal days. I think i have their first record on vinyl still somewhere. Haven't heard them since and clicked this without any big expectations. But this is so good. Holy moly i am surprised.

Black metal was always about spirit and atmosphere. Well I know that R.Christ can not be defined as a pure Black Metal band but who cares about genres. From the day I started my high school i begun listening to them and as well as catchy riffs they always produced a very encouraging atmosphere. Thy Mighty Contract is the best album imo, there are even some elements of jazz in that album! If oldskull bands like R.christ survives Lightbringer, lord of Darkness shall surely summon the light in The Earth!
Rotting Christ were always special. We can call it Black Metal, but this is pure music, from heart, mind and soul. Can't name everithing that is near this greatness. Every second, every tune, or melody of this "musisoulical" masterpiece, (there is so close to my inner warm darkness) is so true and embracing. I wish the band and You the "Lovers" all the best! I"ll go and buy the album. NOW!!!!
Yes! Like Therion! Another band that I would label "Therion Metal", if I had to. It has proximity to the grand label Gothic Metal, like Roting Christ is very close to Black Metal, but they are unique in what they do.

So I am sure someone will disagree with this statement, but there is no other band that even comes close to the style these guys have. I have loved this band for many many years and they still blow me away.

What about Septic Flesh ? In terms of atmosphere, orchestral parts etc... Of course they're both different but listing to this album after Septic Flesh's Titan album is a great continuity.

I can't believe how good Sakis is. He's super human for composing all this by himself. No other musician can get close to creating such atmosphere, maybe Steve Harris is the only other person capable of such thing in metal and even Steve is not that consistent. Hats off. Respect from Bulgaria.

Recently I had a very strange experience with Rotting Christ when I drove my car, and listened to this album. I was driving safely and listened to this album, then I was at the borders of my country. I simply missed the town exit sign on the highway. It never happened with me beforehand.
So I had to turn back from the border and drive extra 25 miles back :-)
It was a kind of special experience of lost time when your mind travels accross the universe while listening to music...

I thought Batushka was from Ukraine, thanks for enlightening me :) They have fantastic Orthodox Church choir vocals but much to my regret the main vocal reminds me of Danny of COF which is more suitable for symphonic / horror black metal rather than this sacrum-profanum genre. I have to check out Mgła (Fog).

My favorite Rotting Christ album is a toss-up between Rituals and Sleep of the Angels. So different from each other, yet same in terms of brilliance!
No idea why some people consider this album mediocre. Rotting christ have been active for decades, its natural that theyll change their style and if anything- its for the best. This album really brings out some good solid black metal.

Back in 2nd half of 90' when "rivalry" between the Greek and Norse scenes had begun I stand firmly with Thy Mighty Contract ;)
Rotting Christ are a metal band that has taken me by surprise, it's good to hear a metal band that is experimental and unique so many metal bands today all the sound the same, wish there were more bands like this and Dimmu Borgir who keep pushing the envelope and keep things fresh. You can't underestimate the importance of originality and musical progression that's what separates the great from the average and that goes for all genres.
