Last time I was in New Orleans I went to Loretta's and had her incredible pralines. I talked with her and she is wonderful. Her pralines are as sweet as she is!
I visited New Orleans a week ago for Mardi gras and was luck enough to rent at a guest house on the same block as miss Loretta's corner store! Sadly, she has passed away and her family now operates the store, but I was spoiled to experience my first praline EVER from this very kitchen. It was one of the most amazing treats I've ever had! So much so, when I got home I placed an order for the sampler pack, but the shoestring are my favorite!! And what a blessing to walk into her store and be surrounded by scripture and feel the love she built all around. 10 out of 10!
Loretta's Pralines are definitely the best in Louisiana, not just in NOLA. Don't ever change that recipe, because it's the Best... Absolutely delicioso.
Can you share how many parts sugar to milk to butter? I’m also surprised so many candy makers swear by a thermometer but I believe Loretta after 5 generations, she knows! I’m sure there’s a recipe written for the family only. Would love to make these and can’t afford to experiment.
Thank you, Loretta..I always stop by the French Market when I'm in town to pick up my favorites--a dozen original, and a dozen rum-flavored. Without a doubt, yours are the very, very best, in a city , as you say, where everyone makes them.
Thank you for making this video...so much fun to watch and learn how to do these right. I have had these and they are the best. Evaporated milk is the only way to go with pralines.
Ms Loretta, you left a sweet legacy behind your Louisiana praline candy is one of my favorite things in life, rest on in peace now, your work is done, walk through those pearly gates to see the savior face to face, I know He loves your candy❤ from Ms Diana LaFleur 🌹⚜️🐊
I really enjoyed your presentation. Thank you for giving me some inspiration to make these as best I can this Christmas season. I grew up in Louisiana where pecans are abundant. I used to "pick for halves", as a 10 year old child, meaning the farmer let me have one half of whatever I raked up and he got the other half. Then I used a red wagon to bring them home. (about 1 mile walk). When I moved to Beaumont, Texas, pecans feel all over the city from great, old trees, along the sidewalks and they were available to whoever might want them, being public property. I remember sitting outside on the porch steps after a rainy day and breathing in the musky smell of green hulls when they first fell from the trees. All that to say, I have a place in my heart for pecans. lol. Anyway, I love pralines and yet I haven't made them in years, as now I am an old lady and live alone. This year my son will be here at Christmas, and they will be part of the festivities. Thanks again for your presentation and also sharing your joy and pride in your work. God bless you this holiday season.
Thanks for the inspiration regarding the equipment Ms. Loretta. Yep, everyone back home makes them. I've been in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area for the past 11 years, and nobody makes pecan candy like me out here. So, this year I've kicked it up a notch. My goal is to get on Ms. Loretta's level to do mass production.
Girl I live in North Dallas and I hope I run into you with a box full of Pralines one day. Lol It's one of my favorite NOLA treats. I would certainly buy a few from you. Every now and then I go to the Daiquiri Shoppe in Carrollton (Dallas suburb) and purchase a few. But good luck to you with your goal to get on Loretta's level, if you haven't already. There was a time when Loretta wasn't on Loretta's level, and with hard work she got there and so can you. 😊🤞🏾
I was blessed to try her praline beignets this past Essence festival and after all these years going to Cafe Du Monde I must say I prefer hers over them
We had pecan trees by our house in Texas- I helped pick them up, crack them and bag them. We’d get bags and bags of them! Then my mom would make pralines and other things- what a treat!
Thank you Laura that I enjoyed watching you make the candy I am from Louisiana I miss living there and having all of the good food and all the good things that you all have down there Keep up the good work young lady
Oh my gosh those look so good! She knows what she’s talking about with that salted butter too! I would be worried I would get sick of pralines if I worked at a place like that…. but I’m not sure that’s even possible To ever get sick of Arline’s😜 Thank you for sharing!🙌🏻
I Buttermilk to make my pralines. My son went to Tulane U. and his roommate brought some his mother made to share with him. He loved them so much he asked for the recipe. Delicious
Thank you for sharing this ma’am! My husband is coming to NOLA for a conference in October 2021 & I’m tagging along for my first visit. Looking forward to trying your delicacies!
Charlinia77 In Louisiana they are called praw-leens (pralines) but some locals in New Orleans say "plah-reens" (plarines), like a slang. Some people in Louisiana also call them pecan candy, pecan in southern Louisiana is pronounced (puh-cawn). Pralines came to Louisiana from Europe. The French settlers of New Orleans brought a French recipe for French pralines and substituted Louisiana pecans for the usual almonds and used cream instead of water. So today's pralines in Louisiana are Louisiana adapted confections of French heritage.
You know when people see someone doing something others love and praise, they look for something negative. You are right, she could not be in business that long being unsanitary. Those pots are just well used.
What a beautiful Lady! We only buy Loretta's when in NOLA because they are carrying on the tradition. RIP Ms. Loretta. You are a jewel in the crown.
When I saw the documentary that she passed I was saddened because I used her recipe and people loved it. She looks so sweet… rest on sweet lady!
Recipe please
Oh no, when did she pass ??? She seems like a gem ! I hope she has family to carry on her tradition!!!
Can you share her recipe ? Thanks
She will be sorely missed. People like her are the salt of the earth. Rest in peace Loretta.
Rest In Power, Ms Harrison!

Ain't gone lie, this made me feel like I was back in the kitchen with my grandma cooking them with her.

I love that smell that the green pralines have! It reminds me of being a child in Louisiana. How nice that you could just gather them in Texas.
