I keep BOTH…garters are definitely more interesting to watch, as they are diurnal and communal. Both are beautiful, and fun to handle, (and my red-sided garters are extremely tame) but corn snakes do tend to be a little slower-moving for handling.

My garter snakes bask a lot. I have all but the neonates in Bioactive setups with basking sites. I recently moved my corn snake into a Bioactive, and now it basks as well. Great video!

Thank you for letting me know this! I heard some people say they like to bask so that will be the first think I provide them once they move into their new terrariums that we will build! Thank you again for watching and commentating Rus!!

Breeders are so much better than expos or pet stores. I got a red-sided garter and when I was searching, mostly they were offered at $350-600. My garter breeder prices them $200-250, and practically guarantees their health.

Corn snake lifespan's are amazing there's a record that cornsnake can live up to 32 years in a proper care. While for garter the average lifespan is 6-10 years.

I've had both, I've never bought a garter because here in Arkansas garter snakes are everywhere, I've also had a pet Great Plains Rat snake, very close related and almost identical to corn snake. Garters are easier to find food for, and bait shop. They love worms, fish, frogs, tadpoles etc. Some garters here are sneaky to bite lol

Gartersnakes are more active/interesting and seem more intelligent. And many forms in their well-marked examples are even more colourful than cornsnakes, garters can be amongst the most stunningly beautiful snakes on the planet. Gartersnakes are more active than most snakes popular with hobbyists. Their alert intelligence and activity make other species seem as dull as houseplants by comparison. Which has its appeal, an animal as unchallenging as a houseplant. Depends if you prefer active engagement or still-life in the terrarium.

Both are native to north america but corn snakes just grow much larger so it depends on the tank size and how many you like to keep.
