We don't know yet what the Redwood will be. Could be a much smaller 2-seat hatchback. What we do know is that Tesla will make a profit on it, and GM will loose money on the Bolt. Redwood will have superior electronics, and of course OTA. Traditional auto manufacturers are claiming they too have OTA, but it is just for the infotainment, not the whole vehicle. If Redwood is much smaller, it won't directly compete with the Bolt. If it is same size, the Bolt doesn't have much of a chance, basically it's market will be Elon haters and long time GM loyalists.

No competition. GM simply can't come close to matching Tesla performance or its manufacturing cost. I suspect that even if GM will be prepared to lose significant sums per vehicle, perhaps more than $10,000, Tesla will outsell them by perhaps 10:1. At those volumes GM will also not have the benefits of mass production that Tesla will have.
Furthermore, as GM becomes more aware of what Tesla will be able to produce and at what cost, they will scale back their production of this model and focus on incorporating more of Tesla's technology in a next generation version to be produced in the 2026-8 period
The real question for both GM and Ford will be do they do what European Legacy manufacturer's might be doing which is import under their names cars manufactured in China?

I look forward to the future cars Tesla will build but I am hopeful GM, Ford, Chrysler, BYD, and others will compete to make them better while also lowering the cost through competition. I own a 2023 Tesla Model 3 and I am more than satisfied with our car and look forward to buy my next EV.

Lets face facts, Tecla's products are in the development stages. They have a few bugs that needs addressing. The plus is, Tesla address it problems unbelievably quick. In a few years their products will be almost perfect, at a price most average Americans can afford. The others will either adapt or die, most likely die off as they should.

The Tesla Next Gen vehicle will DOMINATE!!!! Even if GM can pull off an attractive, useful, and affordable next gen Bolt; they will NOT be able to make a profit on it. Thereby, even if it is an awesome car, they will NEVER build a lot of them because they will be losing money on EVERY one they build. Conversely, Tesla will be making money and won't be able to build enough of their vehicle to satisfy demand for the foreseeable future.

I'll take a Tesla over a GM electric after experiencing the hybrid Volt. The engine/battery drive system works very well but the software implementation of the interior control panel is a disaster. I still don't know if my radio is faulty or the tune button just does not work! The GPS system is no longer upgradeable after only 3 years. Battery life is OK but having to go into the dealer to reset the battery charging system is costly and not over-the-air programmable. The resale value is also down in the dumps so there is no way to sell this car for a decent price with all of the issues with these models.

All OEMs (except Japanese) are working on cheap EVs. Ford has a skunk works. Stellantis, VW, Chevy, Tesla, Volvo ... stay tuned. Lithium prices down 70% from their peak.

RWD on an ICE is dangerous because you have no control on skidding. EVs can precisely control wheel slip and stop a skid. Take a look at Nio, with battery swapping in under 5 minutes. You get a full charged battery or an upgrade for longer distance. It’s too bad Nio is not here in N. America. No infrastructure for this (yet). If Tesla could do what the Nio does, I’d be buying one. Biggest down fall on EVs are the charging time. Don’t need to accelerate 0-60 in under 6 seconds. Unfortunately, the Nio is only available in China and some European countries.

How is 48v a "low-voltage" electrical system compared to the conventional 12v system?

    • @surferdude4487
      @surferdude4487 2 місяці тому +2

You seem to be confused. Most vehicles use 12 volt for the low voltage systems in their cars. This includes all models of Tesla with the exception of the Cybertruck.
What he is saying is that the new Tesla model will use 48 volts for the low-voltage system. The high voltage system may be 800 volts.

That's considered "low voltage" by safety regulations. You can touch it without getting fried. You don't need the insulation required by higher voltages like 120V. You can use Cat 5 or 6 wire.

    FYI: Giga-Mexico is indefinitely delayed.
    - The Chevy (fill in the model name) is not a competitor to anything Tesla because:
    a. GM is not serious about building BEVs
    b. GM is to incompitent to make money building BEVs
    c. GM will never make BEVs in any serious volume because they are going to go bankrupt when they can't sell their ICE junk anymore.
    d. GM earned themselves a bad reputation when they built the Bolt with inferior batteries that catch fire and charge too slowly to be any use on a road trip.
Hope that clears a few things up for you.
Edit: LFP is a chemistry. 46-80 is a form factor. I fully expect that in future, all Tesla cells will be 46-80 regardless of the chemistry they use, including LFP.

They will be crying to the US government for a bailout, all because they can't compete. The world is going electric, people are tired of big oil, screwing us, add to it the planet can't take this crap any more.

If the Tesla model 2 is going to come with no steering wheel & pedals? Some of us will have to come up with a way to come up with the $25,000 to pay for all of that stuff! But as far as the blind and disabled getting into a self-driving Tesla? We'll have to wait to see if they will train us to use them. But I'm going to have to learn how to use one anyway since I am blind!
