Nice job, I like how you put some thicker steel on the corners. If you scoop up a lot of gravel and rocky soil I'd recommend putting a few beads of hard surfacing on the leading edge, our excavator buckets see a ton of wear in that area. One thing though, it's scary as heck seeing you sit under the bucket while its in the air! Put something under it, or lock out one of the cylinders with a brace. Its not worth getting crushed!
Tractor gets about 10-15 hours of use a year so I think that it will hold up pretty well for now
The best man in/on UA-cam for arc gouging is I C Weld or Allistairc123. Isaac is in Texas and Allistair is in Northern Ireland. I have done a few bucket rebuilds, they can hide some tension as they get abused over the years. And then you end up fighting the warping and buckling. Good stuff young man!
i watch those guys they are good
I just got done doing the same job with my new Prime Weld Cut60.... took about 30 min and ran it off a 25gal electric compressor. I'm sure air-arc gouging would be better for bigger welds but it worked well enough and didnt require nearly as much air.
I did the same job, by cutting off the front side and using cutting wheels on the back, and then using a cold chisel and hammer. From start to finishing by welding on the replacement it took me 4 hours (first time doing it).
I used Lincoln 71M wire.
Excellent, i dont have a tractor lol. I welded a kitchen fork standing up lol.
Just messing with my Lincoln mig welder lol. Thank you love your channel MC
Little tip for ya, when scarfing do a little and get a chipping hammer and remove the slag... you're just wasting gas trying to reburn threw it. Over all you did a pretty decent job.
Good tip, next time i do it ill clean up the slag as i go
I'm no welder but I do have the 211 as well great little welder and very portable. nice work.
It was a great little machine, i honestly wish i kept it
No one could do better than you sir 👍
Nice work. Doing mine today. Won't do nearly as much welding as you did and i am sure it won't go anywhere with less.
Good luck!
If you get chamfer or slicing rods you do not need a compressor. Chamfer rods are a low hydrogen rod that turns a stinger (smaw) into a plasma cutter basically its the original plasma and perfect for mobile work as you don't need anything other than your engine drive/stick welder to run them. Ill admit that air ark is a nicer process easier to see the crack and can be faster too but both have their advantages especially if you can hit the 300 amp mark I have run 1/8th chamfer rods on my 160 amp lunch box, oh and it you don't need to worry about what they do to your welding machine either.
You had me when I seeing your rig 💪 💪
🤙
Buckets are usually skip welded on the bottom and welded solid on top. You definitely would have done the cutting faster with a air arc,but you have to use what you have. I have a ingersoll rand 30 gallon gas drive compressor that works good for arc air gouging. Hope you can find one someday.
Working on building an engine drive air compressor to handle it so we will see
Good enogh fore that use, the sound of the welding im now what type of core you using, its not anivable fore vertikale upp , but vertikale down
Nice video! Wait till you eventually get a carbon arc gouger! There way better that a scarfing tip.
im building an engine drive air compressor very soon so i should be able to soon
@@mcfwelding nice! I'm looking into getting or building a gas powered compressor myself. The only thing is the rods are pretty expensive.
Yea I want one to run air tools on my truck. I like air powered grinders and impacts on the truck if I could.. would help keep all my battery tools together in the garage instead of trying to pack them in the truck everytime I go out to a job
@@mcfwelding good point!
Nice! Looks good, I’ve made some decent money repairing buckets an cutting edges.
Nice easy money for the most part
Nice job Matt!
Thanks I appreciate it
Only thing I didn’t like was when you were standing under the bucket on the inside , just in case the rams let go. Just a thought. 😊
now to pick at you, your correct on torch cutting the weld, but thought question, if had to grind it what would you use? my answer is a 7" grinding wheel on 1 of my 4 vintage grinders, 3 are all metal, they will wear you out, but wont bog no matter how hard you press, and would make quick work, and I do own a modern 15 amp Dewalt, and no comparison to say my vintage 30+ year old all metal Milwaukee grinder, I have used a standard 7" disc as a cut off wheel cutting 1/4" metal plate and couldnt bog grinder. yeah... I also have vintage DEWALT, B&D, and Sioux, all are awesome, but the Milwaukee is a beast, so not a bad item if emergency & ran out of gas and couldnt get over weekend.
how is the Chief air hammer? have looked at, but not bought 1 yet
Cheif hammer is pretty good so far
I have the same tractor and need to perform the same job! Where did you buy your new cutting edge? Didn’t come to length or did you buy longer and custom cut?
bought it from the local dealer
Damn bro 😢 you need a track touch. Mine came out so fing clean!!!!
that would be nice
Awesome job as always 💪🤙
Have you ever had cracks in that weld, ER70S-6 ?
nope still holding up strong. spread 15 tons of stone and about 6 yards of dirt since this was put on
I've been told to preheat the cutting edge to 450 degrees before welding. I'm sure it probably wouldn't matter on that size machine.
ALWAYS preheat anything structural or high stress.
fine job like your. work. like you said. don't bolt it. WELD IT
That's right !
Just a suggestion good set of knee pads or foam mat
i have both... just need to do a better job on using them lol
@@mcfwelding i know it sucks but it's alot faster to cut those edges off with a 6inch grinder Im about at same stage with my business as u r from your videos save ur gas for the bigger stuff
the downside to quick connects is they leak after a few changeouts, this is what I have noticed. not drastic leak but leak non the less
Mine are holding up
What were your settings on the welder
I'm using an oxygen propane torch. I've checked everything hoses gages the whole 9 yd It all looks like it's in working order. I'm losing oxygen pressure when I cut. I have 200 PSI in my air tank what could be the problem. Yes I work in a scrap yard
Oxygen is high pressure around 2000psi maybe switch the bottle out
@MCF WELDING switch my tank the other day and it is still doing it. I guess I might have a bad gauge. Back to the store for me
How is that chief looking barrel?
the air hammer? its pretty good
Is this hardox steel for cutting edge?
It is a hardened cutting edge
Scarfing tip
Dude, you put alot of faith in those hoist cylinders. When cutting off an edge burn through the floor on the back side and make it a full pen butt weld. Lap joints on the inside of buckets are no good.
