We were so worried about the sheep... until you installed the fence { ;- ) Adding tissue paper in this way is a very nifty technique. I will definitely try it. Thanks
Finding this video after googling the possiblity of painting water color on tissue paper was what I was hoping to find. Your work is absolutely wonderful in this piece and the effect of bringing texture in this way can be manipulated to create varying degrees of relief on the paper, adding a sense of depth and beauty. I have found another inspiration in your art with the idea of using it on furniture as decoupage which could be a lot of fun. This is a beautiful example of creating this form of texture and I love the simple yet very effective presentation of a rocky cliff without having to go into great detail with paint. Thank you and I look forward to exploring more of your videos.
Very interesting. I am new to decoupage and will be doing my first piece tomorrow. I also fell in love with water color and will be doing it also. I will to try this in my new findings. thank you
Love it!! I've put really rippley tissue on canvas board, using an acrylic medium rather than glue or Modge Podge which can yellow. And I've used loose acrylics rather than watercolor, and I've loved the result! I'm going to try it on paper and with watercolor. Thank you for the demonstration!
thank you for sharing your knowledge, I love your art work, its breathtaking years ago I read in about this technique with tissue paper, but what they had you paint your picture mused then add your tissue paper on top, let it dry completely then finish painting the on top. really a cool affect
@@LizChadertonArt I so wished I had your beautiful talent. I know it’s many years of perfecting your natural talent. I do wished I lived close to you, so I could sign up for classes
Thankyou. I've been wanting to add more 3D texture to my watercolour and heard about using tissue paper. This will give me the ground texture to my outback paintings of rusty cars
I did this experiment with facial tissues, which has a different absorbency than wrapping tissues, it acts like really thin unsized paper. After stacking my facial tissues to a good thickness, I “glue” it together by completely soaking the sheets is water and then letting it dry. I diluted some food grade powdered gelatin in water and brushed it on my now dry sheet of tissues. I apply a few coats, since it’s unsized. Letting that dry, it really felt like crazy rough watercolor paper haha. The paper now has a ultra crinkled texture that is great for experimental practices.
oh my goodness, I would never have thought of that. It’s like making your own paper without making wood or cotton pulp first. I guess the only thing is the tissues will degrade with time, but does that matter? as you say, brilliant for experimental work.
Wow this is such a creative idea, i make things with the decorative part of the tissue paper & i always saved the inner pieces, that i peeled away, now i have something to make with them.
Thanks! This seems like endless fun. So many possibilities. I wonder if painting a bit before overlayering with the tissue would produce an interesting effect. The green area reminded me of sea lettuce drying out over boulders on the shore. I’m just about to head off to my art class this morning so this bit of inspiration was fortuitous!😃
@@LizChadertonArt Ha! I've even been told I might perhaps be selfish for not wanting to share my art for others to see - mostly kinetic sculptures, but I'm happy to just GIVE it away. I seldom keep finished works.
Thanks very much, Liz, for sharing this technique using crinkly tissue paper in a watercolor painting. I really enjoyed this lesson, and am trying to create my own cliff scene. (I need more practice using my rigger brush, I see.)
Hello! I randomly "found" this video today and was interested in trying the tissue paper background.........then I realized your name sounded familiar and your paintings in the background looked familiar! That's because I bought your book Painting Birds some months back! I just checked out your website and checked out your free course there - thank you SO much for generously sharing so much content.......I am going to be checking it out for sure. (And yes, I am going to try this tissue paper technique today - I have used cling wrap, but never tissue paper! Turns out amazing!
Ive never seen this technique before so this is really exciting! I can’t wait to give this a go in my future paintings! Thank you for sharing your tips
I’ve also started playing with tissue papers added to projects and as backgrounds, tearing into strips etcetera for added textures . Thirst are really lovely thank you Liz👏🏾👏🏼✨
Love this technique! I like the way you present. You just get right to it. Question: After it’s dried do you finish it with spray varnish or wax? or something? Thanks so much.
if it’s under glass, you don’t need to finish it. If not under glass you can spray with varnish ( look for one with uv filters) or cold wax medium such as Dorlands.
You my dear are a God send. I have some form of OCD that makes it EXTREMELY difficult to bring my creative ideas to fruition. It all has to be Exact. So when I inevitably color outside of the lines. (Metaphorically speaking) I try to correct what I view as a huge mistake and if it takes too long to "fix" it I just give up and can't get back into the groove for a while. Doing this just might help me get over my rigidness. If it does I'll let you know. TY
