Steve is the the best MRE connoisseur out there. The top dog of the military ration review. He never fails to inform and entertain. The man, the myth, the legend!
I was a soldier in combat and I don't miss MRE's. Seeing this food does take me back to those days. For me the most interesting videos were the ones that showed what other countries feed their soldiers. I enjoy the channel. Great work Steve.
Literally two nights ago my wife and I were talking about how we were beginning to become concerned about Steve. Great to see you healthy, happy, and back to uploading!
Steve you're a goddamned legend. Very few UA-camrs can stop releasing videos for nearly a year and just drop a couple videos casually without any "Sorry I've been gone" statement. We missed you! Keep doing what you're doing!
Great to see Steve back - it's been a year since I have seen him - The CCAR doesn't appear to have an actual "main" meal - which I think is the point - it's a mistake to divide the ration into three meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner - it's a recognition of the fact that when dropped into a modern combat zone, you are constantly in combat - there is no front line, you have no rear area where you can hunker down and prepare or enjoy a hot meal, a proper breakfast, lunch or dinner - you are constantly moving and on the go - It's just a bunch of small, several bite sized bits of food that you can eat on the go, whenever you have time to eat them - It's all up to you to figure out when to eat them - the Army has so little control of the situation, it can't dictate what is breakfast, lunch or dinner time - like they could back in the day - now, it's all up to you -
I’m so happy to see Steve upload a new video. I’ve been waiting anxiously for the next one and he really delivered with this! Steve is like therapy for me, I love his commentary and his dedication to doing what he loves. Thank you, Steve!
Watching Steve eat military rations than span many number of years iterations are among the most entertaining video's on UA-cam. He is the best of the evaluators and provides the most detailed descriptions. I hope he never stops and stays active as long as the technology evolves. He is bringing a ton of information and entertainment to so many people. Good job Dude!
It is insane to me how charming and interesting Steve is. Like I could care less about MREs and yet I have been binging this content for the last 3 hours just because of the way he analyzes the rations.
So many food channels with massive followings only ever say things like "it's SO good" without going into any detail. And then there's Steve, describing each different piece in appearance, texture, flavor, preservation method, and nutritional value. What a treasure of a content creator and man. I'm so glad we get more!

The way he talks about freeze drying. Knowing he made a video on an entire thanksgiving freeze dried meal, and he didn’t even plug his own video this man is a legend.
nah thats the beauty of it he was never here to youtube he catalogs his experience for the historic value alone to share with those in the future how there foods tasted like of course he enjoys eating them immensly if i had to guess its a mix of that collectors high and the satifaction of eating something no one will probly taste again hes exploring historyvthrough his taste buds though he may be addicted for real too the vintage cigarettes and "caffeine" stimulant chocolates but can you blame him the old ones had alot of real tabacco and no additives and im 80% that german cocoa had cocaine or meth in it
The 24 hour rations used to have this stuff called Zapplesauce. It was an applesauce that used to have caffeine in it, about 110 mg. That was one of my favorite items.
Me -watching Steve’s latest video while eating. My gf over hearing- “omg is that the MRE guy?? Is he back ?! “ Equal excitement was shared, good to see yah again Steve🫡
This looks like the most well balanced and thought out rations yet. They managed to make a full day ration complete with both super nutrient dense stuff that actually isn't just freeze dried garbage and included some tasty snacks and a solid top tier main dish. If they make the whole line like this but also keep the skittles & other fan favorite desserts & candies they'll have a hit among the troops.
What's wrong with freeze dried food? Wouldn't you rather have a freeze dried stew where you can make out the ingredients, it's warm and it sort of reminds you of real food, than a bunch of different tasting protein bars? I don't understand the reasoning behind this prototype.
@@ReddoFreddo Well, the close combat thing might suggest there isn't always an opportunity to heat things up or spend time on food. Smoke/Heat could give your position away too perhaps? I'm not the expert here really. But yeh, in a surival situation I would agree with you. Likely priorities are different when bullets are flying.
@@ReddoFreddo I think Freeze dried stuffs don't doing good to eater body in the long run (or to somebody with digestive problems), Steve point out that problem in Video. He also talk about processing that FD use more time than this new process, So Production can be quicker and make more amount than FD does. IMO, Freeze Dried type have It's good (also flaws) and might get to relegate to Huge unit rations that require time and proper care to do so (Water and Heat accessible). While This "new tech" could focus more to individual ration especially 24hr (Easy to eat, Low weight and Not upset body to much when on field).
I know it's almost a cliché to say this. But your videos have been a constant source of relaxation for me when things are going rough. Thanks for all you do!
I LOVE the way he just gives so much nutritional information which kinda teaches me a tone of what other foods can I try to eat (that are not MRE) that are full of nutrients to help during a weight loss journey. Would love to see you make a video of what you eat during the weak or prep meal recommendations!
Rations like this really impress me, some MRE mains leave a lot to be desired regarding taste or texture, but the most impressive thing is the US is constantly trying to improve the rations to give the best calorie to weight ratio and still maintain some variety of taste to appeal to a broad range of soldiers, it's really impressive when you imagine how much work goes into these.
It's really interesting to see how much it varies from country to country as well, some are big on the dehydrated stuff, others are practically home-cooked local foods.
It's so good to have Steve back after a long hiatus. Some of these MRE's really are good cold. I once tried the "Pasta in a Vegetarian Style Taco Sauce" and I was blown away by the flavor, texture, and that it was a vegetarian meal, yet tasted amazing.
I dont think you understand how much I needed to see you again Steve. These MRE videos are like sacred to me and I ALWAYS enjoy a meal along side you when you are testing the food out. Much love!
The grape drink looked like a small galaxy while it was swirling around in Steve's glass. Call it "Galaxy Juice" and you've got all the PR for this ration to take hold.
That is an absolute mountain of food in such a tiny pack! And the flavors, i can only imagine its a real morale booster to have yummy stuff for your rations. Crazy how much they packed in. Welcome back, Steve! I'm wearing my tray tshirt while i watch these!
It's pretty impressive. About the same weight and size of my 3600 calorie MayDay packs, which are basically apple-flavored sawdust, lol. But yeah, different purposes. One's for investigating a hot area a few dozen miles away from an FOB in a third world country, while the MayDays are for post-apocalyptic exploration that could be necessary 5 - 30 years from now, or for when you're stranded during a camping/hunting/road trip.
Yeah, even as someone who likes the First Stike rations they definitely needed improvement and some added variety. This is an improvement, and some pretty cool new components to boot
It is nice. I never understood why the other guys in my unit bitch so much about them. The hot chow you get if any with the army in the field is like a fraction of the calories you need in a day and taste just the same. I promise you I’ll be much happy with a breakfast MRE though instead of a half cup powder eggs, and two pieces of the smallest burnt pieces of of bacon you’ve ever seen with a side of bread slice and watered down Gatorade.
I remember in boot camp( Air Force, so it could be different in other branches) we had to stand in line with our tray in a very specific manner when we were done eating. And that very specific way involved holding your fore arms out rigidly, so the more dishes that were on your plate, the heavier it was, and if there was a long line and you had an appetite, hoo boy your arms would feel like a wet noodle by the end of it.
I thought freeze dried was the pinnacle of long term food storage. This new process was totally unexpected and interesting. Food doesn’t look as appetizing as a rehydrated freeze dried meal but it definitely has its uses if you don’t have time to rehydrate and want to limit pack space
Came across your videos up late at night with my newborn son, and I can’t stop watching them. Can’t wait to show him these in the future. Keep ‘em coming Steve you’re so rad.

Steve really upped his game on this prototype ration. This is one of the most information packed reviews combining food tech, nutrition, weights and measures, taste, etc. Good to see you back, Steve. One more video in the back pocket. Didn't want to binge on both of them in one sitting.
He has been hiding under the floor at the manufacturer for a year spying and waiting until he could grab the new prototype…
I got so excited I watched both.
I'd never even heard of this type of ration tech before, and when I saw the intro thought "hey, I'm going to read up on this after watching it." And now after watching it, I don't need to read up on it because Steve covered everything :)

Were right with releasing
It's because it's his hobby and passion. UA-cam isn't his whole life.
Been travelling spending that sweet Tube money, now he needs to reup on that dough.
Great to see Steve back - it's been a year since I have seen him -
The CCAR doesn't appear to have an actual "main" meal - which I think is the point - it's a mistake to divide the ration into three meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner - it's a recognition of the fact that when dropped into a modern combat zone, you are constantly in combat - there is no front line, you have no rear area where you can hunker down and prepare or enjoy a hot meal, a proper breakfast, lunch or dinner - you are constantly moving and on the go -
It's just a bunch of small, several bite sized bits of food that you can eat on the go, whenever you have time to eat them -
It's all up to you to figure out when to eat them - the Army has so little control of the situation, it can't dictate what is breakfast, lunch or dinner time - like they could back in the day - now, it's all up to you -
Exactly. The Ukraine war has proven this to a fine point
I’m so happy to see Steve upload a new video. I’ve been waiting anxiously for the next one and he really delivered with this! Steve is like therapy for me, I love his commentary and his dedication to doing what he loves. Thank you, Steve!

This looks like the most well balanced and thought out rations yet. They managed to make a full day ration complete with both super nutrient dense stuff that actually isn't just freeze dried garbage and included some tasty snacks and a solid top tier main dish. If they make the whole line like this but also keep the skittles & other fan favorite desserts & candies they'll have a hit among the troops.
lots of mood boosts. It is well thought out. Even the most miserable sob can enjoy some sweet stuff.
IMO, Freeze Dried type have It's good (also flaws) and might get to relegate to Huge unit rations that require time and proper care to do so (Water and Heat accessible). the man came back after a year of radio silence, what an absolute legend. good to see ya back steve
Looks like they're trying to make the food less trash too.
It's really interesting to see how much it varies from country to country as well, some are big on the dehydrated stuff, others are practically home-cooked local foods.
It's so nice to see how many loyal people Steve has subbed to this channel.

I'm wearing my tray shirt too. "Botulism City" didn't seem appropriate for this one.
I’m really shocked at how steady you held that tray one handed with a full cup of liquid in the corner
He is secretly related to Chuck Norris!!
I’ve seen his video where he shows he uses what’s called a wrist rack, you can buy them. It’s for servers who need to carry heavy trays.
That’s what the palm callouses are from. Hours of tray holding practice.
Cos hes a beast. Have you seen his arms?
