Great coverage Steve! A bit of info on Danish rations as I was taught: Typically the whole rye bread and paté are the lunch items, as a fairly traditional danish open faced sandwich, this also goes for the fish (mackerel on the whole rye bread as a spread). Whole rye bread is a typical lunch food, with savory spreads on top as the base of the famous danish "Smørrebrød". the whole wheat bread would be a breakfast item (with the jams/hazelnut chocolate spread) and the biscuits are a snack/used to uh.. "plug you up" so to speak due to the high fiber content. When we receive a ration, you'd pack it in to one of the plastic bags (to keep it dry) before packing it in your bag, and keep the other for trash, taking any smaller items you want as snacks and keeping them in a pocket on your person, such as the chocolate, raisins, jerky and cereal/protein bars. Naturally, each soldier adapts that to their preferences and needs, but that would be a typical way to go with it.

Dane here, they are quite good! Only that I have seen being clearly better (that I have seen yet) are the (no surprises here) French rations, those are peak ration as I've seen em on Steves channel and elsewhere!
I'd honestly like to try some of those JSDF (Japanese Self Defense Force) rations. They actually look pretty good to me. BTW, anything is better than the vomelet (veggie omelet). I went through Army Basic Traing (US Army) in 2008 and got stuck with it once. Worst MRE ever. Looked like a cat ate wet cat food and threw it back up and they packaged it 🤢. Glad they discontinued that one. Honestly should be considered a crime against humanity. 😅 I'd actually like to try a lot of different countries military rations to be honest. 😊
Im watching this while dipping toast into a jug of baked beans. Probably a bit worse than what you had to eat but I'm content. I love dipping toast in bean juice 🤣

One of the best parts about watching these videos is the exposure to different culture's common foods. Prior to finding Steve I'd never heard of things like muesli or pate. Even though in the US we have similar things they go by different names or slightly different presentations. Very enjoyable.
All my years working on a USAR team for earthquake response, we ate MREs all the time. We always enjoyed finding different combinations of items from each to enhance the meals. We always had a box at our Base of Operations with extra pieces of MREs people didn't eat or want. It was fun to see what we could use up .
another great video! and love to see Denmark presented so nicely thank you :D i do love the ryebread hazlenut and jam but want to give you a little cultural reference if intrested. ryebread is a normal lunch bread and the mackerel in tomato sauce is in every home and something almost every dane has tried so brings a great deal of nostalgia. the liver pate's are the same. once again you are doing great!
Pretty much rye bread with everything! Only thing I ever really miss when not in DK is our rye bread! Makrel i tomat på et stykke rugbrød med masser af peber .. Skisme godt!
I love to watch the 24 hour rations, an hour of just pure relaxing content. Little fun fact this ration was packed on my birthday February 3rd, which is just a fun little coincidence.
Hey-hey Steve! Mackerel in tomato sauce is a traditionally popular spread here in the nordic countries; or at least used to be for the millennial and pre-millennial generation :) I’d be shocked if the fish spread was of poor quality! Looks like you enjoyed it even if they didn’t include butter in this ration (!!!). :) Thanks for another banger of a video.
i choked on my food at that choco spread drop edit! added a lot of character to just have a little quiet plap and then they appear nicely back in your hand to put down. These little editing bits and the amount of chill you bring to your hobby, i would say, make you one of the bob rosses of the internet. always glad to see you doing stuff!
The "MHTD" means "Mindst Holdbar Til Dato", literally "Best Before Date". It's a Danish food and health safety thing. It means that the food is best before the indicated date, but can eaten after that date. Provided it's been stored correctly. Also. Steve, you ate the patés wrong. They are supposed to go on the rye bread. Which is why this ration has TWO packets of bread; one for the fish, one for the patés. We Danes also don't put jam on the patés. And they are usually a lunch, or dinner item.
I was literally just saying’ “I wonder if Steve posted a new video yet?”, and boom there it is! Sometimes all you have to do is speak it into existence lol! What a fascinating ration from the Danish! Having a wholesome real food experience with a military ration is so awesome! And it really bolsters the energy levels I feel like more, than having a bunch of food that’s filled to the gills with preservatives.
@sterlingarcher3619 Okay and? This isn't a comment about how their military is used, its a comment on how hearty most european countries feed their soldiers with MREs.
@@buttahXD It's the difference between spending $1M on meals for 10,000 soldiers versus spending $1M for 100,000 soldiers. Combined with not getting deployed means they are not using the MREs, which means they can make even fewer of them. Something like this wouldn't scale up well.
@MTGeomancer Because we'd rather waste money forcing our military to expend as much ammunition as possible, otherwise they'd get less the next time they went out on patrol.
I've never seen someone get so excited about pate as Steve. In all honesty, your work documenting military rations is extraordinary. Thank you for your content Steve!
This channel , and Steve are oddly hypnotic. I find myself watching for hours and just zoning out. Been doing so for years. You're doing the Lords work here Steve , please keep it up.
Man this is one of the best looking rations I’ve ever seen. Would love to get my hands on the same exact menu. Not to knock the US by any means because our MREs are a real marvel to me, but the food itself and all packaging engineering aside this danish stuff looks next level
My biggest complaint about US MREs is that every single component tastes like someone stubbed their toe when adding vitamins and minerals. Why they don't just include a separate vitamin capsule with the meal just astounds me, because everything tastes like added vitamins. Way more than the body can use, as we excrete the excess.
Been about two years once I've watched one of ya videos Steve and it just makes me smile to see you are as funny, entertaining and simply awesome to watch as you were two years ago, keep up the absolutely amazing work Steve
You can buy that chicken curry main over here in Europe in a normal hiking/sport store chain called Decathlon (it's actually a French chain) for about $10 with a little less sturdy packaging. I just ate that stuff yesterday. Oh the wonders of the French food industry! Just think of the RIER ration... Really mouthwatering.
Canned mackrel in tomato sauce is a popular Danish thing. I'ts pretty good and used to be cheap (not anymore). I ate a lot of it when I moved away from my parents home 30 years ago 😀

@@lanceschaerer6875 "snow"? Never heard of her
I love this channel, its often what i watch when relaxing with a good cup of coffee wrapped in a blanket. Cheers from Ireland.
We camped in our back yard with our kids and had MRE’s in the tent for dinner. The kids loved trying everything. We made sure to say “nice hiss”! 😂
“Mmm K, let’s get this out on a tray”. 😂

Truly been a blessed run with the latest uploads. Thanks Steve.
Hey thanks so much for giving this one a look, man! Alright cool, see ya
Just chilling in my room after a long, hard day at work; wondering what to watch... Then Steve uploads at the perfect time. Always makes my day just a little better~
Right on
you and me both brother, 11 hour shift, just got out the shower and see this is uploaded, i am complete tonight!
@@dylanciagaa Nvm, my day was definitely NOT as hard as yours XD. 11hrs... Dang... I hope u getting paid well for that long of a shift.
@@Hadrian9707 11 hours is very unusual, i am a excavator operator and i dig trenches underneath the foundations and install the sewers and water lines for homes before they are built, we were pretty behind this week, so longer shifts were required.
Ironically just starting my shift at my job! Good stuff to get my day going
Anyone else get super excited when Steve pulled out the Brussels and Farmhouse pates? I know our guy loves a good pate and it’s rad to see his favorites improved!
Thanks for what you do, Steve. You make the world a better place.
Steve you are amazing and your content never fails to make me smile. I’m currently serving and love to lay my rations out and “review” them when I’m in the field. I appreciate you sir, salute!
All 4 my sons, even the 2 not still living at home. "Mom you saw Steve uploaded today right?" I tell you we all love your content! It crosses all the supposed boundaries.... please keep adding when you can!
Dang! That MRE almost makes me want to join the Danish army. That all looks better than what I had to eat today. No lie.
Dane here, they are quite good!
Only that I have seen being clearly better (that I have seen yet) are the (no surprises here) French rations, those are peak ration as I've seen em on Steves channel and elsewhere!
Danish mres are truly world class.

I can't wait to get home and watch this. I am so glad you are still making amazing content for us all. Thank you for your service to mankind.
I bought a new boxed mattress and it had the nicest hiss that lasted a full 5 minutes when unpacking it, and all I could think was "Steve would love this"
these videos are always so well researched and informative. you can really tell you care a lot about the way these are made and i appreciate seeing these every time you upload them!
When the world needed him the most, he came back. Nice!
Nice! Alright cool, see ya
Everything about this is awesome. The Scandinavians do this stuff so well. The menu is healthy, rich, and diverse with a lot of composability. Even the aesthetics and design are on another level.
I've been doing a marathon of Steve's old content since his last upload, very pleasantly surprised to see not one but two new videos today. It's always a great day when Steve uploads! Keep up the fantastic work
One of the best parts about watching these videos is the exposure to different culture's common foods. Prior to finding Steve I'd never heard of things like muesli or pate. Even though in the US we have similar things they go by different names or slightly different presentations. Very enjoyable.
Im so glad I found your channel, I can watch and listen to you 24/7
These are my favorite videos on UA-cam. They have helped me through some really tough times and I can’t thank Steve enough for that.
Something is so calming about these. He’s like the Bob Ross of MREs I guess.
Not to mention pairing the rye bread with the pâté, which is arguably the archetypical Danish lunch (“leverpostejsmad”).
Pretty much rye bread with everything! Only thing I ever really miss when not in DK is our rye bread!
Makrel i tomat på et stykke rugbrød med masser af peber .. Skisme godt!
I love it when people around the world chime in and give context. One of the amazing parts of the Steve community
@@EsbenSchjerning Ingen mayo? 🤨
Not in finland. Maybe it's that very fine mackerel fat. Everything tastes fishy days after you eat mackerel.
i choked on my food at that choco spread drop edit! added a lot of character to just have a little quiet plap and then they appear nicely back in your hand to put down. These little editing bits and the amount of chill you bring to your hobby, i would say, make you one of the bob rosses of the internet. always glad to see you doing stuff!
Always excited to see a new Steve video. Thank you for all the entertainment over the years!
Hey right on turbo glad you could stop by. Nice!
@@Steve1989MREhope we can see new video of you making another homemade mre special ❤

Watching this MRE video makes me want to join the Danish army.
I'm naming my next garage band "Nutwalker"...
Glad to see Steve that you're continuing these videos.
You keep doing and I'll keep watching.
🇨🇦👍
The "MHTD" means "Mindst Holdbar Til Dato", literally "Best Before Date". It's a Danish food and health safety thing.
It means that the food is best before the indicated date, but can eaten after that date. Provided it's been stored correctly.
Also. Steve, you ate the patés wrong. They are supposed to go on the rye bread. Which is why this ration has TWO packets of bread; one for the fish, one for the patés.
We Danes also don't put jam on the patés.
And they are usually a lunch, or dinner item.
I don't think anyone but Steve puts jam on pate 😂
depends on the pate and the jam fig jam on pate foie gras on toast points is a great combo for example there are other good pate/jam combos
i wiuld never have believed tart apple and peanut butter were a good combination but it works great
Yes, well, we Danes never eat jam on pork liver paté.
On biscuits, toasted white bread, and on some desserts? Yes. But not on the patés in this MRE.
So it’s basically the expiration date?
I was literally just saying’ “I wonder if Steve posted a new video yet?”, and boom there it is! Sometimes all you have to do is speak it into existence lol! What a fascinating ration from the Danish! Having a wholesome real food experience with a military ration is so awesome! And it really bolsters the energy levels I feel like more, than having a bunch of food that’s filled to the gills with preservatives.
That happened to me too months ago. I swear Steve is there when we need him most! He is da best ❤
I absolutely love the way he says "alright let's get this sat onto a tray"
Especially how he pronounces "tray".
Steve is a GOAT
One of the best if not the best 24h rations I have ever seen I could eat those as proper meals for life they look so good
"forsvarets ejendom - må ikke videresælges"
and here we are. 🤣
I sent him one that i was given, so no one bought/sold any thing from that. I even paid the mail expense my self.
I love these European rations, they’re always so hearty and generous with the portions. Always seem like quality ingredients too.
@sterlingarcher3619spotted the ami
@sterlingarcher3619 Okay and? This isn't a comment about how their military is used, its a comment on how hearty most european countries feed their soldiers with MREs.
@@buttahXD
It's the difference between spending $1M on meals for 10,000 soldiers versus spending $1M for 100,000 soldiers.
God bless you Steve for sharing two videos at the time - one to watch on breakfast and one for lunch🤟🏻
Nice!
When the world is in turmoil, Steve delivers.
Great to see Steve again. Love his commentary
nice
Man this is one of the best looking rations I’ve ever seen. Would love to get my hands on the same exact menu. Not to knock the US by any means because our MREs are a real marvel to me, but the food itself and all packaging engineering aside this danish stuff looks next level
My biggest complaint about US MREs is that every single component tastes like someone stubbed their toe when adding vitamins and minerals. Why they don't just include a separate vitamin capsule with the meal just astounds me, because everything tastes like added vitamins. Way more than the body can use, as we excrete the excess.
"that mackerel isn't really moving down, lets give it a good slap."
*Whack*
"Harder"
"What?"
"What?"
Ooh, harder daddy.
Also why did he slap the raspberry drink mix? felt unfathomable aura from that slap
This is the gold standard for youtube content and ive never even eaten an mre in my life
Been about two years once I've watched one of ya videos Steve and it just makes me smile to see you are as funny, entertaining and simply awesome to watch as you were two years ago, keep up the absolutely amazing work Steve
I’m excited to an unhealthy extent that there’s new Steve content 🎉
Thank you Steve I watch these with my wife, she doesn’t understand my interest in MRE’s ans history but she appreciates your work!
Glad to see videos coming more frequently me and my little boy love to watch
You know it's gonna be a good day when Steve uploads

Canned mackrel in tomato sauce is a popular Danish thing. I'ts pretty good and used to be cheap (not anymore). I ate a lot of it when I moved away from my parents home 30 years ago 😀
How much is a 3-pack of canned mackarel in tomato sauce these days? I don't live in Denmark anymore.
@@Squiglypig
About $ 4.6 for 3x125 grams + there's less mackerel and more tomato sauce now
@@TheNetsrac a goddamned shame...
That Danish breakfast ration is very fancy and looks delicious! 🇩🇰 Greetings from a fellow Steve born in 1989! 😃
Great video by Steve of a really great ration! Wow. The quality & variety of this was something else!
I am Danish and i am pretty sure, that the paté was meant to be spread out on the rye bread, but you can also mix it like you did Steve. Loved the video
The Danes know how to throw together a great pack of rations. I want a box for myself now, lol
Look Out for a German one (mre). It is cheaper and have mostly the same products.
All rations are very interesting to me. I just like how human beings have tried to find ways to make food last longer. That being the case cold weather MREs are the most interesting. Thanks for the great content I've enjoyed it for years
There's nothing better, than starting your day off with not one, but TWO new Steve1989MREInfo videos. What a time to be alive.

Hi Steve, I look forward to your new content above all others on UA-cam. Your videos are very interesting and informative. It’s so cool to see what the Italians feed their armed forces compared to the Chinese. The little things you do and say make your videos the best. I love how you stir drinks and make the little tinkling noise with the spoon. Every time I watch one of your videos I am thoroughly entertained and can’t wait to see what you come up with next. Thank you very much for making the world a much more interesting place.
