Hey uncle john. I been hittin front and side delts on push day and rear and side delts on pull day. So front and rear are workin twice a week but side delts are workin 4 times a week. Thoughts?
Just punished my rear delts yesterday and got a really good workout using your tips. My rear delts were screaming and I haven't felt that in a long time! Thanks for the tips.
That is really sad news, I only just found this guy the other day on here and was already inspired by him to take my shoulder workout to the next level RIP John
Got the fortune of meeting him a few times, the best was when my wife and I were walking down the street at an outdoor mall and he was walking the same side of the street towards us and I was totally caught off guard because it's just not what you're expecting of course. Even later at night, with no one else around on the outskirts of Easton, he was the most friendly person you'd ever meet. As was his wife. The type of people we should all strive to be like.

I love how all trainers want to charge for Information, who have okay bodies. And with technology these days, we can learn for free from this pro body builder. Who would have thought one day that my personal trainer would be John Meadows!! Free knowledge.
I understand the spirit of what you're saying. When a trainer charges for information it's not a matter of gate keeping and profiting off of the access though, it's an energy exchange between their effort of organizing that information in a way that provides objective results and the work you put into making that extra money to exchange for their services. The information becomes THAT more valuable because you both had to invest a bit of yourself into giving it context and application. Not saying that somebody can't be self driven enough to figure everything out for free (UA-cam, free classes, books), but even the best trainers have paid mentors in the past or exchanged energy with them in some way to find value in that info. The amount of info that John and trainers like him share is amazing though, I'm stoked it's becoming the new normal to be educators rather than salesman! :)
It's just a matter of how studious you are and how much time you have. Can you research, find the information you're looking for, filter out the good from the bad information, and apply it without external support? The average gym novice doesn't even know who John is, let alone what a barbell is for.
Best combination if you need it is a decent trainer in real time combined with information to give you more of a background. i self taught a lot of my training and had decent gains at times but there were gaps in knowledge that i had to fill by ongoing reading and watching and occasionally using a professional
Never got the chance to meet you but I watch your videos almost every night (I still do). Even though you’re on the other side, you’re still teaching us. I wish there were words to express the gratitude I have for you and the countless videos you and your team put up. No agenda - just trying to help the next generation of bodybuilders. I’m just so sorry you’re gone…Gonna blow out shoulders extra hard for you tomorrow. Thank you for everything John. Your teachings and wisdom still live on for all of us, EVERYDAY. You touched more lives than you’ll ever know. We all miss you brother. 🙏
The content john put out there is incredible. I'm just a regular weakling, no experience really. Some un-guided with no results. Now i know why. Every video has incredible low term results based help. Thank's to John. Keep it u everyone, because some day you'll be on the other side too.
What a remarkable man! He truly embodied humility. None of his suggestions or advice ever came across as arrogant or carried an "I know better" attitude. I learned so much from him. I only wish I had the chance to meet him in person. Rest in peace to a humble and exemplary human being.
Your son's smile!! That smile from children when they succeed makes the day. That is what I loved when I was teaching(quit because of the teachers..;))
I've always had smaller shoulders, but I started using the heavy weight partials and the seated front raises about 2 months ago, and have definitely seen gains. Thank you!
John you are an absolute legend man, I’ve had shoulder injuries due to bad form since high school (self taught) everything you just said really explains why I sometimes have pain RIP Big John
Just starting watching these vids, this guy is on another level...no ego, no BS, not cocky, not demeaning, not judgemental. He know his craft well enough that he has nothing to prove and lacks the typical BS ego you see in a lot of vids like this...
O man.. I’ve watched this probably 50 times …and still learning! Mountaindog, John … Thanks for sharing all this knowledge , all these years.. RIP 😢👊❤️💪 …
You sir, generously provide the most honest, valuable and complete non-BS, non-blah-blah, to the point, specialized information than anyone else out there, you're miles ahead all of them! They just eat your dust! This is about the 3d video of yours I'm watching and you have won me over already! I feel grateful to you and I wish you all the luck in your life!
My trainer has me use 5lbs and a LOT of time under tension & my shoulders are popping. Shoulder pain prevents heavy lifting but it's amazing what you can achieve with light weights. She knows what she's doing 💪
Jon is honestly my go to when it comes to anything fitness related. He’s forgot more than people will ever know about fitness and makes everything easy to understand. Thank you so much for great content!!!
It's crazy how talented is your son man! Just like his old man! Thank you for the knowledge I've been training for 10 years and I see younger people doing the same things I did ten years ago, I wish I had advise like yours in the past, it would have saved me many lesions and years of progress.
The first 5 minutes have more information than most of the fitness industry. Love your videos good man especially really enjoyed that commercial break with your kid solving the rubiks cube.
I’m a 25 year weight/ bodybuilding/powerlifting guy.. Arnold’s Encyclopedia was my first bible. As a 50 year old retired police officer I’m always looking for tips. I do Highland Games Strongman events during the summer months so I still do a fair amount of heavy training. I really learned a few things watching your posts. Just wanted to say thank you. Take care. :)
I finally got my fingers untangled after attempting Alex's last yo-yo trick just in time for shoulder day. I'm looking forward to trying out these delt tips tonight. 👍
How to boulder your shoulders with John "Mr. Rogers" Meadows! Thanks John for all your insights into training! Great ambassador to the fitness community!
Thank you, John! My shoulders have been lagging behind the rest of my body, and it's because I typically feel a lot of pain in the front of my shoulder near the Acromion process. I tried your deltoid tips today, and I slayed my deltoids - all three heads. They still feel tired hours later. And no pain in my shoulder!!! Thanks for sharing.
Man.. these 21 Reasons videos are absolute gold mines of information!! I agree with his comment about training shoulders first before chest. I usually do a light, high rep set of Arnold presses before bench just to get the engagement as my shoulder joints and anterior delts have always been (working on it) the weakest eccentric point of my bench press. R.I.P. to an absolute legend. Thanks for passing on powerful knowledge!
The fastest I ever solved a rubik's cube was 17 seconds. I've commented in the past about this, and I just love that you are so proud of your son. He's very smart and talented. He would probably have an amazing musical brain as well. Great job with your gains and career. But, even better job being a great father and showing off your kid. These are the little gems in your videos I look forward to 💪
I definitely agree that the shoulders are misunderstood, and that they have the potential to benefit from a limited range of motion. I've incorporated some of these techniques, and have seen gains. Furthermore, that Rubik's Cube segment straight up blew my mind. Your son is a Wiz! As always, thanks for the quality content John.
This is one of if not the best shoulder routine advice I've seen. John is obviously concerned about shoulder damage and how to effectively train them without long term negative impact. I can't imagine why anyone would give this vid a thumbdown but I try not to concern myself with negativity anyway. That's a polite way of saying that there are a lot of idiots watching youtube.
The "partial lat raise" you demonstrated is BEAST!!! I forgot where I learned that oe from, but this one idiot, I mean dude at the gym, tried "correcting" me & I looked at his build & laughed. It actually helped to get my regular lateral raises stronger. Good tips like always.
Incredible advice. I did shoulders today believe or not after the workout I couldn’t even lift my arms to drink my shake 🤕and I did 60 reps!... Thank you so much John🤜🤛
Man I just started lifting a year ago and all o have done is your exercises. I’ve gone and made routines off of your exercise index videos and I couldn’t be happier!!
I remember reading Johns Mountain Dogg training on T nation like 7 years ago. Ever since then I have been in Man love. Thank you john, you are appreciated. Also the father of my baby delts.
The moment I have learnt that you are no more,I became speechless...you are amazing...you are so gentle and you know you talk about ...you give one the impression that you are the one who knows the body building things inside out...great expertise you bring with with everytime you speak....May you rest in peace...

I consistently watch this video before my shoulder workouts to remind me not to go back to old habits. After 30 years of training I’m still learning. Thank you John for sharing these tips.
you're a great father John, it's always good to see your son smashing out tricks, rubix cube is hard i use to try when i was younger but gave up haha i was rooting for him to finish before the buzzer! and as always, really enjoy your content, genuine, informative and full of tricks. thanks John
Proof that you can have a better body than 99.9% of the population and still be a good guy, a helpful and thorough guide to a very challenging sport, and a successful social media personality. If you listen to his voice, he's as authentic as he can be. I know this is a shoulder video, but those biceps. Damn.
My God this high-quality content!!! Just when I think I know it all, this channel how little I do actually know... I tried your shoulder press variation just now and it made a massive difference in my shoulder joint pain. I thought it was because I was weak in the lift, but I'd never questioned the assumption and I'm not weak at anything. I was doing full range of motion, and pressing vertically with a behind the head alignment with dumbells... No wonder it was painful!. Thank you for this.
"Hi everybody, John Meadows here. I went out to home depot and got my bicep veins replaced with a garden hose" In all seriousness, how do you suggest developing a mind muscle connection in shoulders? I'm lucky to a really good connection to most of the muscles in my body just naturally, but not so much of one in my shoulders. Do you think you could have a video on developing the mind muscle connection?
John Jamison try doing a 1/2 second iso at the top and hold the weight at the top of a lateral raise. 10-20ish reps maybe, you should definitely be feeling it. Stop any swinging and keep good ROM and you should kinda just feel it naturally tbh
I learned all the shoulder "safety" stuff the hard way. But this guy explained everything i learnt and i just wish i watched this guys vids before i got injured. I really appreciate this guy ❤️
These are fantastic tips, I’ve been trying to grow my shoulders for awhile... I’m adding all these in now!! Thank you so much for putting this knowledge out for us from years of your experience, the best teacher!! Love your straightforward approach to the sport.
Thanks John. Your advice on shoulder training has been really useful to me. I have some unpleasant shoulder issues and the heavy low-partials and light high-partials for side delts, is working wonders. :)
John, Jeff Nippard, and Ryan Humiston, are the genuinely smartest guys on UA-cam fitness that give very awesome, sound advice. Thank you for all you do John. God Bless!!
I am doing the nucleus overload tactic on side laterals, where I do 100 each day (bodyweight) and add 5 more reps every day, I am starting to get some serious gains and my overhead standing press is also improving
these videos are quality. great combination of practicality, experience and theory. all makes a lot of sense and picked up a few new things from each one

In all seriousness, how do you suggest developing a mind muscle connection in shoulders? I'm lucky to a really good connection to most of the muscles in my body just naturally, but not so much of one in my shoulders. Do you think you could have a video on developing the mind muscle connection?
haha!
Try German volume training - 10 sets of 10 side lateral raises with the cable machine, I'd say you'll feel your shoulders after set 10!
You could also do pause reps at the top of each rep to keep the tension on the delt
For me. Dumbells and no lockout. On seated military press, pull your front delts together to raise the dbs, no lockout high reps
John Jamison try doing a 1/2 second iso at the top and hold the weight at the top of a lateral raise. 10-20ish reps maybe, you should definitely be feeling it. Stop any swinging and keep good ROM and you should kinda just feel it naturally tbh
You're an exceptional teacher with insights that I believe that you impart because you truly care about helping people. Bravo
25 minutes just felt like 5 learned a $hitload, Subscribed!!!
I learned all the shoulder "safety" stuff the hard way. But this guy explained everything i learnt and i just wish i watched this guys vids before i got injured. I really appreciate this guy ❤️
You’re the man, John. Great video.
You were one of a kind John. Thank you and thank who everyone is running this channel.
These are fantastic tips, I’ve been trying to grow my shoulders for awhile... I’m adding all these in now!! Thank you so much for putting this knowledge out for us from years of your experience, the best teacher!! Love your straightforward approach to the sport.
RIP big man. For awhile avoided the videos because was hard to watch.. but you'd want everyone to continue learning. Thanks again
This series is fire! I have already learned so much! Thanks John!
OMG, I did these heavy partial high reps for my side delts on monday, and OMG. It's just amazing.
RIP John.
The dog! this content is so good man your knowledge is invaluable
I miss John. But he does do a good job of staying around through his videos. Thank you guys for keeping it going!
I'm liking these "why it won't grow" series. Like father like son. That kid attacks the Rubik's cubes the same way John attacks delts.😀
John im 45 yrs ol.108kg only started liftn st 36.. bn watchn you 4 6months .. you are thr Best bro.. kind regards from new zealand
You need a new video named "21 reasons You can't solve the Rubik's Cube!"
As always, awesome video!
21 reasons why you can't yo yo
I never stop learning from this great dude! God bless his family and give them strength for his loss.
Thanks John. Your advice on shoulder training has been really useful to me. I have some unpleasant shoulder issues and the heavy low-partials and light high-partials for side delts, is working wonders. :)
Hi John... your simplicity and honesty in explaining the workout is genuine.
The are the best - specially the shoulder health stuff. I'm definitely trying those spider crawls.
I swear the commercials create more suspense in the video lol 😆
Thx mountain dog 🐕 I’m using this tomorrow
By far, the best shoulder video I've watched.
Miss you, John
Love the boys shirt!
