    Wow, this user guide video is an absolute game-changer! It's like having a personal guide right at my fingertips, walking me through every step with clarity and precision. No more confusion on some of the options within the menu - just smooth sailing as I navigate through the ins and outs of all the settings. Kudos to the creator for crafting such an invaluable resource! I definitely got some 'set'things ;) out of it, which I will use! Ohh and I ordered the Grey flippyflopfold 'Card'.

    40:11 you compare standard to clog3. You end up with a graded clog result that is much better than the standard profile. But can't you grade the standard profile too? You are suggesting there is likely less information there to grade, but that comparison - i'm guessing - would be a lot closer than expected. Standard is 10 bit as well correct?

    • @sputnickers
      @sputnickers Рік тому

      BTW I left a reply here yesterday but it didn't show up. This video is perhaps the best tutorial on anything I've ever used. I kept coming up with questions while you were presenting and in almost every case they were answered just minutes later.

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  Рік тому

      10 bit vs 8 bit has to do with the amount of possible colors that can be recorded. 10 bit having more possible colors than 8 bit. What shooting in log does is that the camera applies a logarithmic equation to the footage to capture more dynamic range, which you then have to grade afterwards. You can not capture the same amount of dynamic range with a standard profile.

    What a compendium of fabulous information!
    One concern I have when using AF for wildlife IS that there are many occasions when subject recognition is poor and/or tracking commences but falls off ( like you I use whole area and touch screen)
    How do you work around these situations?
    Keep up the fine work!

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  Рік тому

      Thanks! I find that the AF for wildlife is really good on the newest Canon cameras, but like all cameras, they struggle sometimes based on the subject, conditions, etc. I usually pop into manual focus if I need to. Sometimes you will be able to focus better than the camera. Takes some practice, but it's a good skill to have. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Another question on the white balance - what about the colours around the grey card? What if they were not grey like your space - how would that affect the white balance? Is is just measured at the center point of the screen?

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  Рік тому

      I would assume it reads in the center. Unfortunately it doesn't have that target box like other cameras but I keep the gray card in the center and try to make take up a good bit of the frame. Canon really needs to improve the custom white balance on their mirrorless cameras. It works way better on their cinema cameras.

Is there a way to get them to work the same as in photo/servo mode? Where you can put the point over an object, it puts a blue box over it and tracks it? In video it seems the only way to do that is with the rear LCD with full area touch tracking.

For example when I go somewhere with RF100-500 on R6ii I need something for vlogging too, I don’t want to change lenses in different conditions etc. and vlogging with just an iPhone somehow don’t convince me and not match the canon footage. So I’m still debating if just one camera is enough or I should use two cameras. 🤔

      They didn't put Clog (Canon Log) in this camera, just Clog3.

    Hi Josh, great video!
    Have you tested the sigma 24-70 on this camera?
    I'm between the rf 24-105 f4 and the tamron ef 24-70 g2 (which is similar to the sigma), what do you think?
    Greetings from Argentina!

      Another question, is 10bit recording only in Clog 3?

      Hey martin! I just went trough your problema few months ago! Be aware that with the tamron 24-70 you wont have a powerful stabilization beautifull lens but for video not good if you are looking for a great stabilized lens. if you want the full 5 axis stabilization you have to ho with RF lens. not even the EF canon lens will give you the full 5 axis stabilization

      Thanks! I have not used the Sigma 24-70 on the R6II, but I have used it on other cameras. I would personally go for the RF 24-105 over the Tamron. The RF 24-105 has a few things going for it. It is longer (105mm), smaller, lighter, native RF lens, best AF and stabilization. If you are willing to give up 2.8 for 4, then the RF 24-105 is a great choice.

      @@Josh_Sattin Thanks for the answers! The reality is that I am also interested in the lumix s5ii (or s5iix), what I would lose is the 4k60 without cropping of the R6ii, the rest really interests me a lot

      And wait for canon to open its mount to sigma/tamron (which I hope will be soon)

      You need to be using a compatible lens with the firmware having been updated on the camera and the lenses. I made a video about it: ua-cam.com/video/7ne933XWa_s/v-deo.html

    Canon has huuuge omissions in operation... this "either or" display or recorder is insane! My old Nikon D750 had way better options...
