Facts: But what was Bobby doing from 02:08-02:20 near the band with his back turned to the audience? It seems like he stop performing a quick second... to do something in the back

jonathan bailey bobby could hold his notes stay in his range, but i wouldnt say underrated . Just not a hell of a singer lol. Hes not no rkelly or Prime kci and jojo
Bobby Brown was a great singer, dancer, and performer. His vocals on the early songs in NE and as lead are evidence of that. He was second lead singer in NE because of his vocal ability. Many have stated that he sound better than Ralph on songs. Don't let hatred cloud your judgement of true talent by trying to underrate Bobby. Besides, no one sells albums and becomes one of the top R&B artist in history based on performances. Bobby was that dude and the King!!!!!!
4:56 Ricky throwing some mad shade at Bobby without saying a word. That "I love you, America!" had to have triggered it for sure... I bet that was a long@$$ ride from DC to BOS that night.
We need a New Edition now! One that's actually good and classy, and the boys can actually sing. 5 members, born after 2001. I thought it would be cool if the child actors from the New Edition Story really formed a band, because I loved their voices together.
Bobby was meant for solo success and him leaving the group to become a solo artist ended up having his entire discography outselling new editions and bell biv devoes combined
I am a hugh B Brown fan. Yes, "King" Bobby was meant to go solo. He had great stage presence back then. It was all in God's plan. If he had remained in the group he would not have been the huge solo success that he was. It showed the others that they could branch out on their own. In hindsight without Bobby leaving there would be no BBD, Ralph, Johnny, or Heads of State. Although Johnny had a solo career and wasn't signed with MCA, he would not have been an addition to NE. Johnny saved the group because they were getting older and MCA didn't know how to market them. Johnny gave the group a more mature sound. Bobby's first album "King of Stage" went gold. Bobby's second album "Don't Be Cruel" went 7X-8X platinum (depends on the site). The album had several #1 hits. This album took R&B into the stratusphere making him a superstar. His third album " Bobby" went double platinum (underrated because the NewJackSwing era was ending). The NE "Heartbreak" album featuring Johnny Gill was released at the same time that Bobby's "Don't Be Cruel" album and went 3X-4X platinum (varies). This album had Ralph and Johnny singing lead and Ricky sometimes co-lead and could not touch Bobby's album by a long shot. BBD first album with top singles "Poison " and "Do Me Baby" only went 3X-4x platinum (again depends on the site). It is played more today because of its upbeat hip-hop cultural effect which identifies with today's generation. Don't get me wrong, it is a great song. Ralph and Johnny's first solo album had platinum success. But no ones first, second, or third album, etc. in the NE family or BBD as of today has reached the platinum success of Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel" album. In the mid-90's they all suffered record sells due to the end of the NJS era. Bobby was the most successful solo artist of all the N E family including Johnny. People tend to think that Mike was the biggest financially because of his groups, but truthfully Bobby was. In the 90's Mike had NE money, BBD money, and his group money. Bobby had NE money, his solo money, and Whitney money. His wife was the highest paid actress during the bodyguard era, and she had a superb solo career. She was unmatched. Due to a prenuptual agreement, he left the marriage basically broke in 2007. As of today Mike is better off financially than any member of NE. They are all millionnaires except Ronnie ( if stats are correct). Love NE 4 Life❤. RIP Whitney and BK❤.
Just reading through the comments and I see you are a Ralph Tresvant fan. So am I!!! I think he is the greatest, most prolific front man of a group since Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops and MJ of the J5/Jacksons. Ralph is the most complete talent in NE (dancing/singing/showmanship/leading a group). That is NOT up for debate. "Do What I Gotta Do" is in my top 5 NE family songs, period. His lead vocals & stacked background harmony vocals on many of NE's hits are a thing of beauty. And he is a fiercely loyal person, which I admire. But the big lesson of NE's career and all the branch off acts within the group is that there was a whole lot of untapped talent within the group besides Ralph. They had success too. And let's keep it real, this is not 1984 anymore. NO ONE in NE is "living off" of Ralph in 2017. I repeat, NO ONE. Bobby, Johnny and BBD ALL have their own careers these days--without Ralph. They ALL tour mostly without Ralph. Only occasionally (mostly bi-annually) do they actually tour as NE in recent years. And even then the tours are like small summer tours. For whatever reason, after "Sensitivity," Ralph never took off as everyone thought he would when he went solo. Even that album sold far LESS than Johnny, Bobby and BBD. That is a fact. Sadly, that has relegated him to either touring with Heads of State, New Edition, or not at all. And assuming what you said was even accurate, he wouldn't even have time to be NE's meal ticket today, as he is a full time radio host. Ralph is a grown man now who is doing well. He loves NE--every member of NE. And NE loves Ralph. And as NE fans, we should be proud of the entire group and not engage in petty debates of the past in the comment section of thirty year old live NE performances.

Ray Parker Jrn penned song. Love the story behind this song...
Wow New Edition is my all time favorite group. I can't believe I've never seen this before. Thanks 4 posting. 🙌
I luv this song really bad mr telephone man
This is simply PRICELESS... NE doing what they do best... Live performance rockin' The crowd... Look at them then... Look at the fellaz now... Few have ever done it any better... "They had... "It" back then... They have "It" now... & well into the future... NE will still be holding "It" down... Hmm... The "It Factor..." Either U have "It" or U don't!! Long live NE!!
Bobby Was Smart To Go Solo
He had to go solo he was kicked out of the group...
@@IceManLikeGervinHe could’ve gave up on music all together after that. He didn’t and became an icon and legend in his own right💯
@@danielnelson6903 Bobby wasn't going to give up on music though...it was his dream to be an entertainer. He started out as a solo entertainer before forming New Edition. Plus, MCA Records had a solo deal written into New Edition's contract for every member of the group as a failsafe.
@@IceManLikeGervinNo not every member, members that are key to the sound of New Edition. Either Ralph or Bobby
@@danielnelson6903 Nope, all members. Even the background guys...
Fantastic 💯
Bobby loves enjoyment
This feels like a scene out of Five Heart Beats
if you screw around your girl of course she lets the phone ring 25 xxxx before she answers it(mad),........now adays,...............marius(punk rules),......still love the old innocent days of black people.
I love this thanks for uploading.
若い頃と何も変わらないこの歌声にびっくりします!最高だわあ
im really surprised at their unchanged harmony that they used to make! gonna be best of all.
When I say glossed over I mean todays artists gloss over him. When asked who their inspirations are they all immediately say Michael Jackson even though they're a lot more like Bobby. Chris Brown is one. He's a lot more Bobby than Michael
jonathan bailey OMG I SAY THIS ALL THE TIME. BEST UA-cam COMMENT EVER
Agreed. Chris Brown is Bobby Beige. The artist that came after Bobby copied his style.
🙌🏾
0:41 Mike: Imma fuck Bob up.
