I love your ideas for the future of this (10:00). I will keep watching and hope you can devote some of your creative time to this series. I think many people are wanting to do this for a multitude of reasons and not always just security (alone).
for budget cameras, you should look at the hikvisions ip cameras, they are cheap, run on POE, and overall good quality. One downside was initial setup as my system is quite complex, but once I got the first one setup, the others I have added over time were easier. I have footage that was actually used to catch a thief trying to break into our cars in the middle of the night. This brand you have, formerly Foscam or joined together now, was my very first and I still use it. Quality was a lot less (640x480) but still good nice to have inside a small one car garage. Using a NAS is a definite need because I can have 2 weeks straight recording with three cameras at full HD streams
Mark YOu are not only one. I need to in my house too. Yet, my situation is my Mom's disabled and home alone alot, so I need to find way to protect her and watch her from work. So, what Jason is doing would really help me.
Could you create a series or walk-through how this would work -- say all day monitoring like a garage or a room in your house. For me, my Mom is extremely disabled now; it's new to us and was quick, so we're adapting. Anyway, be nice to have way to watch her from work or monitor that she has not fallen. Can you show us how it would record during the day onto a network location? Then, how you would use a browser to look through camera, or how you could examine day's events through a file directory. That would be a neat series / addition to this video. Thanks.
I thought you were interested in this camera not because it moves but because they are the first one's that responded to your request for a free camera?
For me it will always be AXIS Communication Camera's and Camera Station VMS - but you may want to look at Hikvision and Dahua They are the #1 and #2 Camera manufacturers in the World at different price points. I work with Cisco VSOM but dont get me started with THAT headache. Luxriot and Avigilon Control Center to me are the best professional VMS...but here are some free ones you may want to look at iSpy - Visual Studio 2015 source code is available as well as precompiled installable versions. OpenCVR/Rapidvms from veyesys Shinobi - Open source VMS, developed in node.js veyesys Rapidvms - Offers opensource code for most of the VMS platforms, but some components are only available as binaries. Zoneminder - Offers precompiled packages for linux distros, and also open source code.
I've had a couple older Foscams that died, and needed upgrade. Unfortunately I opted for a couple VstarCam C23S. Those are a piece of crap software. The firmware looks in details as the old Foscam (All Chinese factories buy FW in the same place?) - but it is changed in one specific and annoying place - MotionDetection. It ONLY works now in the way that it sends an email with a broken imagelink, and a message to log on and check what's going on. Great surveillance , huh!? Do you know if these Amcrests, when they say email notification, will ACTUALLY attach the image proof in form of image(s?) to document what triggered it. Or is this also hooked up on some (in VstarCams case) non-functional subscription "Service" that requires one to click on something in the email they send,, and then jump to the service on their servers to see the actual motion detected. (Which then also needs to have access info to the webcams around the world. Cool security :D ) Or... Do they send an "motion detected" email with images? (here's hoping!)
I have an ip cam that looks and works the same (pretty sure it's the same thing), it's some sunluxy thing from amazon., The only problems are a static when listening to audio and now most of them don';t boot properly first time without a whining sound, so yeah avoid sunluxy. I do believe it's virtually the same thing as mine, make sure you set all of the credentials properly.
Hello, nice video about amcrest cameras, in fact I own 5 of them at my home and they work perfectly! However I have a doubt, I own a property outside the town where I don’t have wifi (at this time) or cellphone capability so I will not be able to monitor that property via wifi or LTE (cellphone) but I would like to use the camera just to record any movement inside the house than can be activated via Motion sensor and recorded on the SD card and later in a weakly basis I will check any “possible” video recorded on it. My question is if I can program this camera without wifi to record just events activated by the motion sensor? I will appreciate your support. Thanks Jose
Jason on the Xbox one if you go to the store and type in Plex they have Plex for Xbox one and it is the the updated one you just have to delete the other version
Jason, when will you do a review type vid on what parts you would buy to build a complete computer?? I did see the one you did on the server under $500...
Also, to add to my last question, can you access this from a web browser (not on your phone) or look at network files of the camera's historical recordings? Say, I come home and want to see movies / recordings of my dogs coming into the kitchen (let's say). How would I do that? Yeah, probably set some "motion activation" on camera, but I don't know after that. Thanks.
I wish you would show us the setup of (say) your Network Computer copying camera recording files from that device's flash card and moving them to your network shared location. I like the camera that you showed, but I would never pay money for a monthly service. So, it'd be nice to see how you can record on the camera then it appear on your network. Is that hard? Thanks.
I’m in the same boat. Well.. already running some cheap poe onvif a,Avon cameras (jooan) in my home network. Using a synology nas as my Network video server along with the synology security software. It works.. been up for almost 2 years and outside with -40’c weather!
how do we connect to my new wifi name if i change it. i cant find the settings on the apps. and when i tried to start live view , it kept saying login failed.
i have a couple older foscam units which is now amcrest. mine are basically the 3 year old version of yours and i have to say it looks like for ease of setup they have come a long way. mine were not. in this whole video you were able to get the video feed through your phone while on your network. how about when you are out and off your wifi?
thanks jason for the reply. if i can ask 1 more question about this. my foscams will sense movement then take a 3 picture burst then send the pics to an email address. will the amcrest send photos to an email?
I second that. Blue Iris will allow you to mix and match just about every camera out there into one software. I been running it for several years and love it.
Third to blue Iris. Came down here to recommend it. Purchase the full version also. I also have the app on my phone which is great for push notifications on movement.
I am a synology owner and surveillance station is nice but at $50 per camera for a license I too also went with Blue Iris Software. The ONE drawback is compatibility to OS. You basically need a Windows or Mac to use it. He's running UnRaid, he'd have to spin up a VM in order to use Blue Iris. Can't beat the price $43-$55 (depending where you shop) for up to 64 IP cameras. They also have a 7 Day FREE trial if you want to kick the tires on it, it just watermarks the image as such. I record 24/7 video to the NAS and couldn't be happier with my setup.
bro, i have my amcrest hardwired to router then hardwired to puter... it keeps cutting my videos to 30 minutes. i use surveillance pro to record. it will say its still recording but i go to play it... there is only 30 minutes of video. i can have a 4 hour video, when i go to play it there is only 30 minutes... so frustrating. the techs couldn't help. any suggestions would be appreciated. ty

Thanks for the video. I was directed to your video from Amcrest customer service. Your video helped me and I am back online! Thanks again!
Looking forward to all of the vids in this series... ive caught the security cam bug myself and am trying to weed through options as well.
i really like your style of reviews, I subbed

IP cam and unraid would make for an interesting series.
You can use POE if you have an injector at your switch, and a splitter at the camera. According to the Amazon listing, the zoom is only digital zoom.
I totally get that security camera itch!
Mark

Body still looks the same as the old 720p version I still use. Might have to spring for the 1080p or 2k version soon though.
Is it way better than 1080p version (IP2M-841) in terms of picture quality?

Did you notice any lag while watching real-time? I ask because I have the older version and there is about a 10 to 15 second lag that I hate.
Jason, when will you do a review type vid on what parts you would buy to build a complete computer??
I did see the one you did on the server under $500...
can it be viewed by a phone outside of wifi range? say im an hour away from home and want to check on my dog.

Very entertaining review X-)
I work in the Security industry. For a camera manufacture. If you want a decent VMS for free try Milestone XProtect
Jason Meehan +1 for XProtect!
Jacob Hopkins promoting my competition ...
Jason:
What is VMS? Can you explain or provide a link? Thanks.
Poe Lemic Video Management System

it worked off network super easy. No additional setup required. scary kinda..
thanks jason for the reply. if i can ask 1 more question about this. my foscams will sense movement then take a 3 picture burst then send the pics to an email address. will the amcrest send photos to an email?
Did you turn on HD? By default it records in SD.
Blue Iris software is what I use. It is great. It is just about the only software I've ever paid for. Check it out.
I second that. Blue Iris will allow you to mix and match just about every camera out there into one software. I been running it for several years and love it.

Jonathan Sullivan I think this is a perfect example of when to use a virtual windows partition on your server.
Hi..can i control one camera , using 2 smartphones? Thanks
I mean 2 users in one camera, and how? Thanks
Amcrest of one of my main device to help monitor my properties and definitely one best easy setup device but support is lacking...
Does it have to be plugged in?
These cameras work Great
only when they want to
What if u take the phone off wifi
Orbs on 9:10
Damn you switched to 4K60? Great
yeah, only cost an arm n a leg lol
At 01:31 you just voided your warranty :-)
attach all vids to this vid please, it would help )
so much for "I don't need the quick start guide".
Check out NetCam Studio (Free for 2 Cams, Smartphone client)

Setup was a breeze. The app is confusing in my opinion. I prefer the Yi camera because the app is simple to understand.
I have purchased 4 4mp ip ptz cameras just like this but better quality..total regret.
Good:
Image quality .
thats it
Bad: not easy to setup,
software is a TOTAL MESS! used 5 different phones 2 of them were the latest iphone xs, it is simply a dissaster.
incredibly laggy, crashing, adding device after inputing all the information of cam in the end will say
"unable to connect" leaving you the only option to close out the app relaunch and then find it in devices..
(this is on all phones btw)

not to mentio PTZ functions BOTH ON NVR AND COMPUTER work very slow and laggy, changing settings like quality is ridiculous and takes forever to save.
i also havent figured out how to set up the scheduled recording option, yes i have found the charts for each camera.. but for some reason it does not record at all to the specified folder on my computer.
only if i manually go to the specific camera and hit the record button individually.. like i said i get the feeling this software was created in the early 2000s and poorly designed.
anyway i think i have made my point, do not buy.
just to mention i am a very tech savy person i use very high end computers and in short know what im doing.
the only thing i wanted basically was 4 wireless cameras to record at 1080p at least from 9 to 9 everyday and i could not achieve this with these cameras and this company in general.
