- Today, I received the Amcrest ProHD 1080p pan/tilt wi-fi camera. So, I will do the unboxing, setting up, settings overview and show you some sample footage. I will eventually compare this to the Yi Dome camera that I already have been using.

This camera is a 1080p HD resolution so it streams, records and playback in full HD 1920.1080 @ 30 fps. Setting up is easy using your smart phone. It records videos using a micro SD card or Amcrest NVR or Amcrest cloud, it has smart alerts where it starts recording when motion or sound is detected, it has 2 way audio, pan/tilt and digital zoom, and night vision up to 32 feet. This camera has a 90 degree wide angle lens and a 2 Megapixel CMOS sensor.

I have the $499 25x ptz from Amcrest...it's really good. Even if it only lasts a year its paid for itself in one incident. I expect it will outlive my next 2 phones.

@@LifeHackster what is the CD for, is it necessary and what is the wifi cable or router cable did you connect it from modem or router before setting up the camera or also not necessary or it should connected from laptop to camera just confused with the cable and the cd that is included on the package.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes, I searched and saw the video. Whoever owns that channel mashes up videos from other youtubers without crediting the original creators and stating that he bought the products which now I'm assuming he did not. I'll be contacting him and also other you tubers that he has used the footage. I'm also going to report him to UA-cam. Thank You.

Yes you can..anywhere you have an internet connection..wifi or cellphone data...

Thanks for the video. Im looking for the security cam that i can access through our phone but i have a question, the memory that you can only use is 32gig, is the camera saving the video? What happen if the memory card is full, it will stop to take a video or the camera will overwrite the old video? I hope you can answer my questions. Thank you
Yes, the footage is recorded on the micro SD card and it loop records meaning it will automatically record over old footage when the card is full.

Hello i have the same camera, purchased 1 week ago from eBay, Everything works fine & i am very pleased, I have a microSD card installed & i can review all of my recordings that have been captured with the motion sensor, But my only issue is that i cannot find a way to delete old clips ? Did you find a way to delete old clips ? as i simply cannot find the answer, i would appreciate a response if possible thanks :-)
The only way to delete old clips is to format the card ..which there might be an option of that in the app...(I don't have this camera anymore so I'm not sure - The Yi camera that I use has that option) or remove the micro SD card and use a computer to select and delete old clips..

LifeHackster have you tried adding this cam to your ReoLink NVR? Was wondering if this is possible.
I haven't and I actually don't have the camera anymore...so, I'm not sure if it will connect with the NVR software...I think it will work with third party software though...

The Amcrest is very comparable with the Yi...software wise, the Amcrest is not as "user friendly" but if you know what you are doing, it has more options and integrations than the Yi..I just liked the simplicity of the Yi app...
Is this camera PoE? I am assuming the way you have it setup is using a power cable? How about remote access, for when you are at work? Does recording to the SD card overwrites old data, or do you have to constantly change the SD card? Thanks in advance
Eduardo Zurita - Yes, this camera can be used as a stand alone and be controlled on the app or can be added to a security system using PoE which I haven't tried out. It uses a power cable and records to a micro SD card by default. It loops and overwrites old data automatically.
If i were to purchase this camera, would I need to apply for cloud? and if i don't apply for it, will it still continue to record and detect movement and let me have access to play it back? Im deciding on either getting Amcrest or YI Dome. which would you prefer?
Both Yi and Amcrest can record to a micro SD card, so you don't have to be subscribed to their cloud service. I did pick the Yi dome and haven't looked back...
LifeHackster for the YI camera, I’ve read bad reviews about how you needed to allow the camera to access your contacts, browser, and basically your whole phone. Did you have to do that? people say that it could get hacked
I have the Yi camera(s) for more than a year and I have no issues as to the app or the camera sending messages to my contacts or hacked my phone..

Where can I find settings to change the time? So far that is not very intuitive as I looked everywhere. Other than that I like the camera.

Yes. As long as your phone can connect to the internet...
After it says device is successfully connected. I press "start live view". it says connecting and then I get a message saying "failed to connect"
You might need to reset it.
Same thing with mine. I bought on amazon and already sent back. They are crap and their app is even worse.

While you use the app to view the camera, it will use up your phone's battery...but if you are not viewing or using the app..then, No. You can access the camera anywhere via the app as long as your phone is connected to the internet.

Any time my comcast internet was lost, the camera can't able to reconnect to wifi, i need to unplug and plug the power cord to make it reconnected. Any way to fix those issues?? i really appreciated!
Try contacting their support. The camera should be able to reconnect automatically when that happens.

I don't have this camera anymore but there should be a setting in there to turn off "light status" in the settings section of the app.

I don’t have this camera anymore and I’m not sure if you can set it up using a browser..most WiFi cameras can only be installed via the app in your phone/tablet.
@@LifeHackster Thanks. I looked it up on the manual, and it turns out that there is a web interface. Although there are a lot of warning about the plugin support being dropped.

Check if the mic is ON on the app.. if yes, then, it might be a hardware issue.. contact Amcrest support.
will the motion detection work through windows?
Jason Angeles - I just researched it and I don't think this camera uses a PIR sensor. That means it might detect motion through glass.
Cobra Commander - not all cameras does that..PIR sensors detects heat and is the most accurate in motion detecting..and it will not work behind a glass...
Bought and returned all in one day. Stupid cameras would not connect via WiFi. I had to run Ethernet. Once I disconnect Ethernet they would work for about 5 min then they would lose connection. I bought on amazon because reviews were good of the camera. Once I downloaded app I realized I had wasted my money. The mic in them sounds awful as well. Only decent thing was the HD camera... but when you run HD it slows the camera down sooo much its pointless.
I returned mine also not long after I made this review. I chose and liked the Yi dome camera better.

You are welcome. The Yi does have a sound when it pans/tilts and should be normal...
I'm setting up an Amcrest right now. It's awful. You run through the setup process, it tells you it's set up, and then you hit the view button. It then tells you user username/password is wrong. The one you just entered, and didn't even have a way to change before hitting the view button.
Hopefully you will be able to set it up. Try resetting the camera or reinstalling the app and see if it works.
But, you cannot ID an intruder over ten feet from the camera. Not a great picture.
This camera is the biggest pile of shit I've ever bought.

Yes you can but you need internet..it doesn't have to be Wifi...You can use your phone's data plan... hope that helps.
