I think people don't realize that the story in essence is about love that transcends time. Kikyo and kagome are the same soul, not the same person. Kikyo actually wanted to be like kagome she wanted to be normal girl without huge responsibility that she had. Her wish was granted when she was reborn as kagome, kagome is complete opposite of kikyo. What people fail to realize is that inuyasha and kikyo's love was so strong that they found their way back to each other even though kikyo was reincarnated as kagome.

I can't lie I used to be anti Kikyo when I was younger and first discovered the anime, now watching it again at an older age I can't help but feel pity for her, poor girl had a rough life man bad enough she's charged with guarding an all powerful item, but then she's tricked into thinking her lover turned against her , she's brought back to life to find said lover with a new girl and dies again :/
Your profile picture is my favorite picture of Kikyo, I just bought an iPod case of that photo of her. Haha :D Kikyo is indeed my most favorite female character in any anime and I respect her character a lot, she is so quiet and well put together. She suffered so much and her life truly is tragic. Kaede even said in the episode "The Tragic Love Song of Destiny" that Kikyo is a strong, proud, and beautiful priestess. I love those 2 episodes the most. Inuyasha is my favorite anime because of his and Kikyo's tragic love story. Kagome is great, but she didn't even endure half of what Kikyo had endured in her lifetime. Kikyo was alone through all of her agony and she was still so strong and helped others, all of my favorite episodes are the ones she's in. There is so much depth, power, and emotion in her character and her love for Inuaysha. Kagome's love is the typical teenage love, that's why people like her more. She is more relatable than Kikyo's character. But Kikyo's love is so deep and Kagome even admitted that, Kikyo died for Inuyasha which was more than she could ever do for him. Rest in peace to the most beautiful and powerful female character in anime history.
I still remember that I used to have a crazy crush on her when I was 10 years old. To me she's the most sublime, elegant and gentle yet strong women in anime
I know Kikyo has tried to kill Inuyasha sometimes, and was played as the bad one many times.. I never understood why Rumiko put her in that position.., clearly later she changed her mind and make change that play. Kikyo was a poor victim.. she didn't have a pretty good life. Then she found love in Inuyasha, and Naraku killed her (not before making her believe that the love of her life had betrayed her). Then they resurrected her to make her suffer even more. Watching how the love of her life fell in love with someone else, and knowing that she couldn't be with him. Having to run away from Inuyasha because being with him, knowing that she was dead and it wasn't really possible to be with him, just caused her more suffering. And it was even harder because he couldn't understand that, and he followed her on each opportunity... It just broke my heart every time.. I've always seen Kikyo as a banshee.. a lost soul.. she died with all that anger, hopelessness and pain because of the treason of Inuyasha, so i always see it like when she was resurrected, all those feeling were WAY too strong, like it was the way spirits worked. Then she had the time to get a balance and understand everything. And sure, she wasn't all funny, energetic and clumsy as Kagome was. I like Kagome a lot, why not? she was a nice person, really mature about feelings and funny. But i adore Kikyo too. She was different. Sure, she wasn't a funny and clumsy girl, but why everyone has to be like that? She still deserved to be with the person she loved and to have happiness
I agree with you, she is just a victim. In the manga you can see a different part of her, I mean she is more lovely with Inuyasha and not cold as in the anime. I like her because she sacrificed herself for her people, sad. I wished the anime showed that.
Daniela stor I tried liking Kikyo by seeing things from her pov but I couldn't forgive her after she betrayed Inuyasha a second time by taking the jewel and helping Naraku. Basically her not being a priestess meant she could be free to be mean if she wanted to. Granted I did like her more in the Final Act though.
Maybe not intentionally; I'll give you that, but she ended up doing so. She was stupidly arrogant and that motion did cause problems later. Besides, if she really wanted to do that, why didn't she just wait until the jewel was complete to steal and give it to Naraku? That made no sense for her to give him half of it if that was her plan. Because obviously, Inuyasha and Kagome were gonna go get it back making that motion extremely pointless. She's also mocked Naraku over and over about not being able to kill her because of Onigumo (might have just been once or so, still stupid) giving him ideas on how to get stronger and eliminate her and more people woot. Yay, Kikyo.
Kikyo actually has the most tragic story out of everyone. 1. She wanted to become an ordinary woman but can’t because of her duty as a guardian of the jewel. 2. She met a man who changed all her perspectives but then died knowing she was betrayed by the same man. She died with a lot of hatred hence not reaching Nirvana (ultimate goal in Buddhism). 3. She got resurrected unwillingly with clay body and having need to leech on other souls just to keep herself going. Wandering the world trying to look for her purpose. 4. She discovered the true story about her and inuyasha how naraku tricked them. She still loves inuyasha but she knows they can’t be together so she tried to bring him to hell with her. But Inuyasha was saved by Kagome’s voice someone who now holds his heart and someone who was actually her reincarnation. 5. After being resurrected, she tried to settle down in a village lived as a priestess and played with children contemplating with herself “I can live here.” Even telling the monk who discovered her secret that she wants to live quietly in that village. But fate just won’t let her. The monk who tried to kill her died on the process witnessed by the kid Sayo who got very scared of her. This forced her to leave that village. 6. She eventually accepted Kagome as Inuyasha’s new love. She’s always trying to act tough and emontionless in front of Inuyasha but get suddenly soft when hugged or told that he loves her. But she’ll snap back to her senses before being completely carried away. She’s that mature. “Once the thread of destiny becomes tangled, it cannot be undone” Saying that to herself while flying away from Inuyasha. 7. She saved rin, kohaku and koga. She put Monk Hakushin to Nirvana. Another holy person who got tainted with evil before dying. She still hoped her soul will be saved and reach Nirvana herself. She spent the rest of her life helping people.
Wow she really tried to accept her death and live peacefully knowing inuyasha would not be with her. It was heart breaking seeing her end up having to leave Sayo and the village she hoped to live a more normal life in.
I loved how she in the end accepted that Kagome was capable enough of Killing Naraku, and transferred her light to Kohaku, which eventually let him live. Truly the best character in the series.
fangirls hate on this beautifully well-written character because they can not understand it. It's ridiculous how an anime character is more mature, wise devoted and thoughtful than most people you've encountered in real life.
To be fair a lot of people misunderstand Kikyou at that age. I know I did, but I grew out of it. She's a very layered character and the show changes her actions in the manga sometimes to her detriment. Kagome and Kikyou are both great.
She was sometimes frustrating because of the way she treated Kagome and her actions but in the end she's just a tragic character trying to find peace. She found it in the end :)
People who hated her simply didn't understand her. Seriously. She was the best character and the most tragic. She was tricked into thinking the one she loved betrayed and killed her. And in the end she loved Inuyasha too much to kill him and instead sealed him.
That is true! When I was younger I didn't like Kikyo because I couldn't understand her. But now I am older and I understand Kikyo. She was beautiful and she died so young and this 2 times. She had a short and sad life. And unfortunately she couldn't see Naraku's end together with Inuyasha and the others.
She suffered in the past, when she died thinking she was betrayed. She alsó suffered in the present cause she can see her reality...her life was stolen and she wasn't alive against her willing. For me, Kikyo is the best character because she was very mature, she understood that Inuyasha had another life now and, even more, she always faced Naraku by herself with no help from others. Kagome was proyected by Inuyasha and Kikyo wasn't...she overcome all the ugly circounstances by her own she did'n have options like Kagome had...Kikyo was a great character, she didn't deserve all that!!! Rumiko has the fault...

Right! I feel so happy to know lots of people like her!! I've loved her for so long and she's my favorite in the whole show, but I don't like the show anymore cause she's gone💔😭She's literally the only reason I still remember this show.
Love or hate Kikyo, she's the ultimate tragic character hero/heroine. I'm not an emotional person, but watching the whole InuYasha series definitely took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. You feel almost exactly what the characters feel when they are feeling it. Joy, pain, sorrow, tragedy, remorse, revenge, it's all there! That's why I feel that after all these years that InuYasha is arguably the best anime out there.
If you think about it, the anime actually kinda revolves around her. Without her as the protector of the jewel Naraku wouldn’t have had anything to do with Inuyasha, Inuyasha wouldn’t have been interested in fighting for the good, just for himself like before meeting Kikyo, Kagome wouldn’t have had powers and wouldn’t have come to Sengoku jidai, and even if she came...Inuyasha first started to like her because she reminded him of Kikyo (remember when he tried to kiss her in the beginning thinking she looked like Kikyo?). Even though InuKag is apparently the center of the attention, the main deal is actually InuKik, because that’s the background of the whole story.
Man, rewatching Inuyasha as an adult really makes me realize how tragic Kikiyo's character arc is. There is so much sadness in her eyes and her theme does a fantastic job of conveying that sadness.
And telling Naraku about his weakness (the whole "your heart can't bear to kill me" thing), which was basically aiding the enemy, which eventually led to him ripping out his own heart and killing her. Also, giving Kagura the stone cup in Movie 2, which was helping the opponent start a whole disaster. But oh well... that's okay.
you have to remember that after she helped him she vowed to destroy onigumo for what he did to her and inuyasha - that sets her apart from naraku and the other bad guys in the series and makes her human. she was freer than she was before and less constrained to despair and hatred.
It was ok she helped Onigumo,but only mistake she did was she couldn’t see the risk of helping onigumo,and keep him secrets from other village people but kaede. She should have known her job was very dangerous,and may be she should have looked for another woman,who could do her job since after falling in love with Inuyasha,her magical strength weakened.
Kikyo was the main victim of all. Anyway, she could not have stayed with Inuyasha because she was already dead. Her soul wouldn't have any salvation. Kikyo suffered alone. Early in the story, she hates Inuyasha just because she don't know the truth yet.. she doesn't know it was a Naraku's plan to separate Inuyasha from her. The heart of Onigumo was dirty, he wanted her more than anything and didn't want anyone near to her. So, when Onigumo became Naraku, he did everything to kill Inuyasha. But from a moment in the story, Kikyo no longer thought to kill Inuyasha, she just wanted to find and destroy Naraku to die in peace and rest. I like Kikyo. I feel sorry for her story... She had a compassionate heart. Love this song!
+Karla V You've got it exactly right. SO many fans failed to see that, and simply dismissed her unfairly as a bitch. If you think about it, in this anime/manga, Kikyō was Naraku's very first victim. Nobody can blame her for seeming so bitter so much of the time.

And thanks to this light, Naraku can be destroyed by Kagome's spiritual power. Sadly some fans understand this too late, in the last moments. It was Kikyo's arrow Kagome shot to kill Naraku so ultimately Kagome still wasn't strong enough to defeat Naraku on her own which I'm not Kagome bashing but c'mon Rumiko Kagome is the heroine of the series could she at least have gotten slightly stronger instead of Inu getting all powerful and Kagome staying weak and needing his protection. They argue Kikyo wants to take Inuyasha to hell with her which is also untrue she gave up that plan very early in the series. They also blame Kikyo for Inuyasha coming to her. Really its not Kikyo's fault she only called him too her once and both times Naraku is discussed and he comes back with something to give Kagome.

I will never understand Rumiko and what she was thinking when she created Kikyo. I mean, How can you create such a wonderful character, so deep, so psychologically accurate, so serious and then put a childish girl like Kagome next to her and pretend she's her reincarnation, she's like her....and worst of all that Inuyasha sees Kikyo in her. Sometimes I found myself thinking that it will be SO MUCH BETTER and SO LESS PAINFUL if Kikyo was never resurrected at all. The reason why Kikyo is so hated is because she's a REALLY mature character, one of the most deep characters I've seen so far....and you can't expect that little teens, that spend their time fangirling over unlikely and untrue fairy-tales, can see her true beauty. So, Rumiko, why!? Why did you do this to that poor character of yours?!

+moonlight93 Maybe Kagome being childish makes perfect sense since Kikyo could never be since she was a priestess and she had to guard that jewel. Kikyo had no time to be childish. So if Kagome is Kikyo 's reincarnation it's her second chance at being free and to be with her love once again. Kikyo being brought back to life does make things screwy though but then again it's good she found out she didn't die betrayed by her love.

You didn't understand what I mean for "mature character", Kikyo isn't mature 'cause she's "serious" or "trained as priestess", i'm talking about writing here, character development, so those things are not the point of my speech. Kikyo is the typical anti-hero, that one character that has so many issues that make it unique and not easy to understand. Kagome is the typical cheerful girl "everything is okay because I say so", but nothing more; she didn't teach me nothing, she didn't leave me any kind of emotion, because she's predictable. That's why for me is insane to think that they are the same person.
Same. While Kikyo affected me on so many levels, Kagome just paled in comparison to her. To me, Kagome, despite being the main heroine, was never as memorable, never as interesting, never as layered as Kikyo was. Every day I think back to Inuyasha as one of my first-ever anime, and the character I always remember first is Kikyo. In fact, I tend not to think of Kagome at all, because she didn't teach me anything, didn't really appeal to me, and didn't leave any sort of impression on me when I finished.
Kikyo, the girl who made Inuyasha cry... that scene was so intense when we saw Inuyasha cry, holding Kikyo in his arms while she slowly passed away. Its always hard to see, when the hero starts to cry for the first time.
Just came here after finishing the manga and I must say that the anime version portrayed Kikyo and Kagome more extreme than they were in the manga version (Kagome being more dramatic and childish while Kikyo selfish and full of hatred). And I have to say that Kikyo is the one of the best character ever created. Her life is full of sadness and despair. Died thinking she’s been betrayed by her only love, revived, again and again, only to witness her love with someone else (worse being that someone else is her reincarnation) and knowing that she cannot be with him for reasons she’s dead and simply not meant to be. She seemed to know that Kagome was the version of her that got to be loved and be the ordinary woman she desired to be, but still, she ached at the fact that it wasn’t her who got the love. When knew about Naraku and his evil doings, she devoted her life to kill him and revenge her soul. She had chose to do the right thing and stayed away from him. Kikyo is not only so intelligent and powerful but also mature, kind and considerate. She loved deeply and doesn’t deserve all the hate at all. The anime version might portrait her and her story in a more extreme way and also they have changed some of the lines to make this love triangle weigh more on Inuyasha-loves-Kikyo-more side but you can see in the mange he’s kinda neutral imo.

The crappy part is that no matter how much you want inuyasha and Kikyo to be together you realize that it became impossible once Kikyo died. I have nothing against kagome's character but Kikyo seems the better fit. Truly a tragic love story.
Sometimes i wonder if sesshomaru and kikyo would have been better forcing her to accept him the way he was or change. I too wish that kikyo and inuyasha could be together but she wanted him to change. Kagome loved him for him.
@@LaLaLeoVA Kikyou didn't want Inuyasha to change. She merely mentioned to him that if he used the jewel to become human, she wouldn't need to guard it and that they could be together. They literally couldn't be together because of her duty as a priestess and him being a half demon. If they removed the problem which was the jewel, then she and him could have been together. But I'm pretty sure she would have loved him whether he was half demon or fully human.
Those who love Kikyo are empathetic people with high EQ …they know they can feel how painful it is to be lonely and tragic…they know how life is void of love.they are understanding not everyone likes Kikyou for that reason..being rational and pragmatic will not always give you happiness
YES. I started watching Inuyasha when I was 4 or 5 years old. Kikyo's story seemed to me the saddest and most tragic even at that time. When I grew up, thanks to the Internet, I found out that a lot of people hate her and I don't really understand it. She never had a chance in life and yet she fought to the end for the good. She died "because" of his lover (in his mind) to later revive and see that he already loved another woman. It's very sad.

lol that's because like most protagonists, Inuyasha isn't the most articulate person. He found himself lost in words whenever they suddenly crossed paths, not only because he has trouble expressing himself, but also due to the complexity of the whole thing and his strong feelings of love, guilt, hope and despair. He didn't know what he needed to do.
InuYasha is seriously so awesome. Great action, comedy, great romance, the most perfect soundtrack I've ever heard. Good voice acting. As a kid this show blew my mind and then i read the entire manga later in life and it blew my mind even more. Love the story so much.
Honestly inuyasha was the first ever anime I watched and it was in English dub. That’s what got me to like subbed anime because it was so good. I tried watching the sub version and it just can’t compare to inuyasha’s dub voice. The dub inuyasha will always and I mean ALWAYS be superior.
During my childhood, I always hated Kikyo when I watched Inuyasha. I felt she was mean and constantly came in between Inuyasha and Kagome. But, the more times I watch the series, the more I feel that she was the biggest victim of them all. She never got to be with Inuyasha and was basically punished for falling in love with him. Her resurrection was terrible because whatever little love she did have left for Inuyasha turned into hatred and resentment. Her second death is still disturbing. She deserved so much better and so much more.
That is called maturing. Kikyou was too intense and serious a character for most teens to understand. So they associated with the more happy go lucky type (Kagome) because they could relate a person with less... stress, responsibility, goals? Who knows, I just recall the majority of young readers/watchers hated her for no reason because they could not or chose not to see her pain and sympathize. I hear a lot of that now, I've rewatched the series and now see things in a different light. It's called growing up.
I do think that Kagome suits Inuyasha more, but Inuyasha truly loves Kikyo. Kagome was a healthy rebound for him, she slowly closed his wounds up and helped him move on from Kikyo. But in all honesty, if it came down to one for him to choose, who do you think Inuyasha would choose? It would 100% be Kikyo. And if Kikyo would have lived on, Inuyasha would have leaned towards her more and eventually gone back to her. His true love is Kikyo, you can tell this by him always running blindly towards her without even thinking. His stubbornness and hardness is immediately shut down and softened the moment he crosses paths with her, because of how powerful his love was for her. He never has to think twice or go into deep thoughts about how he feels towards her. It's sad because all Kikyo wanted was to live the life of an ordinary woman and live a peaceful life with her lover. It's not that they weren't meant to be, it's that there was a curse placed upon her by Tsubaki, and so her ending was destined to be tragic. However, her emotions clouded that and she loved Inuyasha anyway. And on top of that her powers became weaker because her heart had become more soft. Falling in love made her vulnerable to evil demons because she couldn't sense danger the same way or as strongly. Kagome deserves Inuyasha too, but only after Kikyo is gone. As long as Kikyo was alive, Kagome had no place in their lives and the true love was only between Inuyasha and Kikyo.
I never disliked Kikyo. She was my favourite character in the entire anime series. I have always loved her character. I don't understand the hate she is getting.

It has to be from the original writer or else it's as fake as a fanfiction in my opinion. Now if we can work some way out and gather as many Kikyo fans as we can and contact the writer, an alternative path may not be entirely impossible. We just need to show the writer that we desperately need it xD Kikyo is EXTREMELY popular in China with over 24 Thousand favorite votes and counting in ttpaihang. What really sad is that she never got to be with Inuyasha (I'm Kagome and Inuyasha all the way) its still sad that the love she wanted and needed was the one she was cursed to never have or even enjoy. My heart goes to Kikiyo and Inuyasha everytime I hear this song (I hope she fully found peace)
Honestly, I liked Kikyo a lot more. She was tragic and I really liked her... But, to make myself feel better, Kagome and Kikyos soul was and is one and the same (minus a little bit that went to heaven) but it makes me happier, that way both of them are with Inuyasha. It's as if their souls are bound to be together .^_^
Hatsune Miku That's okay, Miku. This song ALWAYS makes me cry. So does the flash back episode of Inu and Kikyo, and both of her deaths. The song at 4:34 with the vocals is the one that makes me cry the most all the time...
I never really see Kikyo as a bad person or a threat to Inuyasha squad given all the drama and shizz that circles around her. For me, (forgive me for saying this) she's like Itachi of Naruto. She will forever be my favorite female anime character (and trust me, ive seen a lot of animes) In the end, im still glad and happy for her that she got what she wanted given all the pain and sorrows she had to endure alone.

Inuyasha has way better story then all of the anime that I had seen so far its so good and the music is so badass and soothing to the ears as well and all of the characters are all interesting to me especially Sesshomaru.
I'd like to believe Kikyo meets Dr Suikotsu in the otherworld and mate with him, the two had a good bond were undead and were admired by children. Then Naraku eventually does go to where Kikyo is but is trapped in a cocoon like Freeza in Dragon Ball Super and forced to watch her mate with Dr. Suikotsu forever.
Out of all of the soundtracks in Inuyasha, this one is always the one that gets to me the most emotionally and puts me on the verge of tears, and has even made me shed tears a couple of times. Kikyo and Inuyasha were supposed to have happy and romantic lives with each other, but were robbed of this all because of Naraku and his dark ambitions and selfish desires. This is indeed a sad and terrible tragedy, and it makes me feel pity for Kikyo. I can truly feel the pain and sorrow that is in this song.
She is my favorite anime character. When I was 8 years old I watched Inuyasha only for her. Such a deep and complex character, even after all she went through she was still kind enough to help others. She understands Inuyasha will never be with her even though she still has deep feelings for him, but she is capable of giving up her feelings and not interfering between Kagome and Inuyasha, because in the end that’s what she does. After she is ressurected, only hate and bitterness keep her alive and yet she shows kindness towards others and by the end she is “ enlighted”. She tried to “kill “Kagome, but if she really wanted to kill her, she would have never missed the opportunity to do that because when she has a plan, nothing can stop her. She sacrifices her life and youth protecting the jewel and she is capable of thinking for the general good not only for her personal gain, and I think this is where people don’t understand her, she is seeing the bigger picture, Kikyo wants to kill Naraku along with destroying the jewel. Even by the brick of death she is still not thinking to save herself, she wants the jewel to vanish so she has the jewel burned with her body to not be possessed by evil hands. Some people say she wanted to change Inuyasha wanting him to become a human, but this is not the case ( she fell in love with him, a haf-demon), she wants that jewel gone, again she is thinking of the bigger picture. Kikyo actually helps Kagome seeing her own power, when Tsubaki tried to kill Kagome she knew Kagome was powerful and that Tsubaki’s plan would fail, and she was right. When she is alone in the cage with Kagome, she is telling her to leave because she, Kikyo was already dead, but Kagome had a chance to save herself, again proving that she is selfless. Kikyo is one of the deepest character ever created, and Rumiko did an excelent job portraying her. She shows kindness out of hatred and she SACRIFICES a lot, always putting the greater good above her wishes and desires, and even her life. Calm and mature, even when her inside is mess, she always follows her plan, never letting anything interfering with it. I think she was glad that she finally found her peace at the end because she hated the way she sustained her life and only used the souls of the dead to live enough to destroy Naraku and the jewel. I also believe that she gets to live through Kagome, because she wished deep down to be an ordinary woman and to see Inuyasha again and Kagome’ s life is what she wished for.

I wonder if I will ever appeciate and feel for any anime character as much as I do for Kikyo. I won't be at peace until she gets her own alternative timeline mini series where she survives. I guess I'll die with that little dream buried next to me lol.
Unfortunately, we all will. I, for one, would love to see that too, even if she finds happiness with someone else (I've always shipped her with Sesshoumaru in my mind). They would have been anime's power couple. But (sighs), it was not meant to be.
I want to think Kikyo's soul was destined to be with Inuyasha, so when she died life brought Kagome to him, but that witch went against nature by bringing her back, however without Kikyo, Naraku was never going to be defeated, so she needed to live a little longer. Kikyo is my favorite character since I´m 9 years old :)
Of course they aren’t the same as in DNA, but that’s what reincarnated means - that the soul is the same. I truly believe that as well - that Kikyo got to be with Inuyasha in the end through Kagome.
What really distinguishes and elevates Inuyasha from Rumiko Takahashi's other works is its core of Greek-style tragedy, which tightly bonded by the fates of two characters, Kikyo and Naraku. Beyond the superficial protagonists doing cliche stuff all the time, the story started because of these two, and end with these two. You can find many Inuyasha-like and Kagome-like characters in different Animes and Comics, but not for Kikyo. If you know Rumiko, you will know how much effort she put on her and she really wanted to jump out her old, formed style. None the less, such a complicated character is hard to handle. I'm just a little bit sad that she admitted that she was kinda "lose controll on Kikyo" in the later volumes and eventually failed to end the Manga in a more elevated way. BTW she also said "I tried to give her the most decent leaving as I can, though I still feel sorry for Kikyo"
I can imagine her humming this to the children in her village and to when her sister could see in both eyes she’s smiling and having the gewl right beside her when I saw kikyo for the first time I was instantly attached her story was amazing and very tragic and it really breaks my heart knowing that people are hating on her 🤍❤️🖤
Seems like Naraku himself was a tragic character in the way he wanted this womans love and was completely manipulated by the jewel and over time became so twisted and ensnared by it he completely forgot why he wanted it in the first place only to realize at the end when it was too late that the jewel never granted your real wish
At first I hated her because of how she treated Kagome but I understood where she was coming from. I cried when she died in Inuyasha's arms. Imagine if you loved someone so much that even though you thought they betrayed you, you followed them in death. She was willing to give up her miko powers for him and he his demon powers for her. At least her soul was able to cross over without any pain or suffering. Like a ghost she came back angry and cursed but she was able to change her heart. All this pain was for a man who thought he could have her anyway necessary. It taught me a life lesson, if you love someone let them know while they are still here.
I don’t think I can live in peace knowing kikyo never got her happy ending. She’s a hero who was wronged and misunderstood by many. Sad that little teenagers prefer kagome while sending hate to kikyo. It shows they never understood the anime or have a feelings. Try looking at everything for her point of view, put yourself in her shoes. She didn’t deserve dying like that, being separated from the one she loved, being told she’ll never see him, being resurrected to find Inuyasha has a another girl and then to only to die again. She is the true heroine of this anime, the creators did her dirty and so did the so called Kagome fans. Y’all never felt the pain and torture kikyo had to go through.
Obviously you never understood the anime or manga. Inuyasha is rooted in Japan's two main &oldest religion, Buddhism and shintoism. If you understand the concept of the two, you'll understand that kikyo and kagome are the same person and how actually beautiful the story is because of that. The idea of karma weaves a beautiful tale betweem inuyasha and kikyo (kagome). It teaches us to except that bitterness is part of life but if you stay true, you'll never be worn down by it.
also I think its important to draw a distinction between "dead" kikyo and alive kikyo( the one from flashbacks and kagome). Like kaede says, the dead kikyo is nothing but an illusion brought forth by urasuae's magic. Dead kikyo is made up of the bitter memories and hatred of kikyos soul during the time of her death. The " Dead" kikyo we see through out the series is not the real kikyo. Even dead kikyo herself knew this, but because she holds the memories of the real kikyo and believes herself to be kikyo, she is unable to move on, thus living tormentally throughout the series. It just goes to show how important amd powerful the "real" kikyo's was to the story of inuyasha, to which her soul was able to reincarnate as kagome as well as manifest as a pretty powerful clone during the entire series. When dead kikyo finally dies during the final act, I believe her soul was purified by kagome's arrow, thus releasing that bitter part of kikyos soul, which then time traveled back to the future to join the soul that reincarnated as kagome. Thus explains why kagome was described to have such a big soul by urasurae during the begining of the series and would explain why dead kikyo and kagome were able to exist at the same time during the series.

Kikyo has and always will be someone dear to me so special no one has gotten to that level before. I've loved her for 10 years now and my love for her only grows. She was beautiful, elegant, graceful and so kind and deserved happiness. I yearn for her to find true happiness, even if it's only in my imagination that I can give it to her.

agree although i like kagome more i felt kikyo had tje saddest story and wouldnt mind if she got with inuyasha, they technically never broke up so its understandable why just inuyasha still loved her more than kagome.
I remember when I first started watching inuyasha when I was about 12 or 13 kikyo was my least favorite character. I think I was too young to understand her character depth and her development. I'm rewatching the series and I'm 30 now. I can finally appreciate her character and wish I had sooner. Shes tragic and very much underappreciated. Her story and emotions are haunting and I'm only on season one. I will definitely be torn apart watching her story this time around 😔. I think the people that hate her should rewatch and give her a chance. Don't get me wrong I still like kagome and all but Kikyo deserves better recognition.
I want to cry!! This is my favorite song by far. I love the series and the fact that it has music like this is part of the reasons why I thinks it one of the best anime ever. The music makes you feel like you're actually in feudal Japan.
Well Kagome does admit (while the baby Akago was trying to find the dark in her heart) that she feel very jealous of Kikyo and that there was even moments when she would wish that Kikyo dissapear,but even so the times she could have let Kikyo to die she didn't..she saved her because she had a big heart and she knew how much Kikyo mean for Inuyasha ,and the love Kagome had for him made her value more his happiness over her own.Of course she would get jealous and crushed but seeing Inuyasha happy was worthy for her.
The music itself is heartbreaking and when you watch the film and understand the heartbreaking story of kykio that makes this music the sadest music i heard ever.💔
A complex love triangle and a more complex situation for one of my all time favorite characters. Kikyo, such a deep character. She at first was bitter and jealous not only over inuyasha but over her unfortunate circumstances. Her position didnt allow her to show weakness and when she did it cost her. Seeing the truth of her demise she is happy she has a second chance at life to live in a way she could not. "free to hate free to love". Indeed she hated, and indeed she was resentful and mean. The very thing she died for still in the world and was brought back by her reincarnation who is with the love of her life while she is forced to be without any of it. She burns through all the hate, changes, and for the first time she and kagome help eachother out. She tells kagome to leave her cuz she is dead. She knows she cant be with inuyasha and she is just existing. She returns to her original self in bringing naraku's demise and riding the world of the shikon jewel. In her last moments she gives her last to help everyone and is freed with a kiss from the man she could never truly have. In the end she got to discover herself and reveal her truest and darkest emotions. No longer holding back. In her second life she lived more than she ever thought she would and got all the closure she needed.

Kikyo has been and will always remain my favorite character in this franchise. Her theme also captures the tragedy behind her character very well. When kikyo died for real the last time, I legit sobbed.
Kikyo was my favorite character in the anime... I won't like I cried when she died(permanently) but I was happy for her because she was finally at peace. A lot of people hated her because of her beginning hatred for inuyasha, but she was madly in love with him. And when Naraku killed her she believed inuyasha killed her and betrayed her. At the time of her death her heart had broken and her souls peace was shattered in that moment, she couldn't find peace in death, then she was resurrected and her heart was once again broken. Her anger was out of sorrow. And your heart can only be broken so many times before it begins to blacken. She did redeem herself but still had a broken heart. If anyone else is a total geek for the show you would also know that she was only 18 when she died. She was still young. Her mind still able to be broken and her heart still brittle. All of her sorrow and pain would leave a permanent scar that could never truly heal.
+Desert Eagle Inuyasha was 150 years old(200 when he was woke at the start of the series). Biologically he looks like 15. Funny thing is he acts this way when he is with Kagome, but more mature when he is with Kikyo.
So beautiful, yet so sad. I really loved her character so much.. she was the only one that opened up to Inuyasha first. She died believing that Inuyasha had betrayed her. It left her heart in hatred and filled her up with feelings of emptiness. I’m so happy she died in Inuyasha’s arms for the last time

When her light surrounds Inuyasha and the shinidamachu circle around them, and Kagome says "it's so warm" I'm just crying because it's so beautiful 😭💔 oh Kikyo... When Kikiyo died she was full of hatred for Inuyasha....but her love for Inuyasha was still in her, Not only was Kikiyos looks and spiritual powers (Not even to mention the sacred jewel) was reincarnated into Kagome, but her love for Inuyasha as well. Yes There are times when Kikiyo AND Kagome want to kill Inuyasha but They are both still in love with him. I know people are like KIKIYO SHOULD JUST DIE ALREADY Kagome is also like that too. Question is, when kikyo bounded inuyasha to the tree... She could have killed inuyasha with the sacred arrow. instead, she used the sealing arrow to put him to sleep. Did kikyo really, truly hate inuyasha? If so she could have killed him in an instant.

Stereotypically as a black jock growing up in a tough area, it blew my mind at how sensitive this anime made me feel growing up. I never felt this way about any other show. Lol I would never tell my bris how much I liked this show either. I still get a little teary eyed when I here this song..... good times.

Kikyo is the most impressive anime character. She is the key to the story, the love and hatred. Above all, she had enlightened herself to the truth of the life. Kikyo is like an angel burying in the night of sin. Her pain, her fighting and compassion are so beautiful!
Kikyo was the best character of the series. The one who's quest felt the most important and worth following as a companion. Shes also very relatable to me now as an adult. She had duties, a goal in life...then she found love in a young man. She gave him her heart and due to unforeseen circumstances at the hands of evil, her heart was stolen unable to return now only wondering with her duties without a motive, without purpose, just to do it. Even if she fell, she had nothing left to loose. I think when we are in love, hand our heart to those worthy and its tossed aside like it was worthless, we move on but with no goal to reach and we begin to reserve or never trust our feelings again. In essence and another Universe, Kikyo's traits would have made her a powerful and wise Jedi Knight. The inability to let her weaknesses cloud her judgment, but if put on the path of giving her heart to someone not worthy could turn that power very easily to the dark side. So when the tragedy unfolded for her, she becomes more wise to assist and complete her quest, it no longer is for herself or her significant other, it's for humanity as a whole making her sacrifice by the end all the more sad but respected emmensly. She died so the goodness of humanity could thrive. That's big time props. Kikyo is awesome. Fuck the haters!
Muy linda serie una de las mejores que vi en mi infancia , una historia muy profunda, kikyo siempre fue mi personaje favorito me banque miles de capitulos para ver que es lo que iba a hacer al final.....luego durante años creo, dejaron de hacer capitulos y no vi nunca mas porque crei que quedaria ahi la serie sin poder terminarla porque era muy dificil darle un final y todos creiamos que iba a quedar un final abierto ya que habia muchas historias por cerrar.......ahora luego de tantos años vi que la terminaron y fue como volver a esa epoca con toda la emocion de mirar los capitulos que manera de tragar saliva ....

When I was young I didn't understand Kiko's pain, now as an adult, I finally realized that she was a sad soul and never had the chance to be free and happy.
At the beginning of the series, I didn’t have a positive first impression on Kikyo. Once I understood her feelings and her choices, I realized that I can relate to her. I learned to not judge others, and to keep doing the right thing even if no one else supports me.
I liked Kikyo from when I was like 10,I never felt hate towards her. Not until I re watch the whole series, I realised she wanted to be with inuyasha again so she tried to kill Kagome like almost but after all that and knowing about the truth she finally accepted that Kagome will take her place to help inuyasha! And Kikyo starts her mission to destroy Naraku and finally die in peace.😶
Initially I wasn't heartfelt for her, then as the series continued I fell for her pain, her longing the total anguish for he existence. She did what was her destiny not what her heart wanted. She is so misunderstood. She is powerful, she is the truth.
Cathy Le try to read the manga, it explains things a bit more detailed than the anime, even when the anime is already clear at everything, the manga is more clearer in story line especially for Kikyo, I prefer the kikyo in the manga, it made me feel for her more than the anime so..........I suggest that you should try reading it. I think people don't realize that the story in essence is about love that transcends time. Kikyo and kagome are the same soul, not the same person. Kikyo actually wanted to be like kagome she wanted to be normal girl without huge responsibility that she had. Her wish was granted when she was reborn as kagome, kagome is complete opposite of kikyo. What people fail to realize is that inuyasha and kikyo's love was so strong that they found their way back to each other even though kikyo was reincarnated as kagome.

I can't lie I used to be anti Kikyo when I was younger and first discovered the anime, now watching it again at an older age I can't help but feel pity for her, poor girl had a rough life man bad enough she's charged with guarding an all powerful item, but then she's tricked into thinking her lover turned against her , she's brought back to life to find said lover with a new girl and dies again :/

Kikyo is indeed my most favorite female character in any anime and I respect her character a lot, she is so quiet and well put together. She suffered so much and her life truly is tragic. Kaede even said in the episode "The Tragic Love Song of Destiny" that Kikyo is a strong, proud, and beautiful priestess. I love those 2 episodes the most.
Inuyasha is my favorite anime because of his and Kikyo's tragic love story. Kagome is great, but she didn't even endure half of what Kikyo had endured in her lifetime. Kikyo was alone through all of her agony and she was still so strong and helped others, all of my favorite episodes are the ones she's in. There is so much depth, power, and emotion in her character and her love for Inuaysha. Kagome's love is the typical teenage love, that's why people like her more. She is more relatable than Kikyo's character. But Kikyo's love is so deep and Kagome even admitted that, Kikyo died for Inuyasha which was more than she could ever do for him.

I've been in love with her for over 10 years and my lover for her hasnt diminished even the slightest.
I know Kikyo has tried to kill Inuyasha sometimes, and was played as the bad one many times.. I never understood why Rumiko put her in that position.., clearly later she changed her mind and make change that play. Kikyo was a poor victim.. she didn't have a pretty good life. Then she found love in Inuyasha, and Naraku killed her (not before making her believe that the love of her life had betrayed her). Then they resurrected her to make her suffer even more. Watching how the love of her life fell in love with someone else, and knowing that she couldn't be with him.
Having to run away from Inuyasha because being with him, knowing that she was dead and it wasn't really possible to be with him, just caused her more suffering. And it was even harder because he couldn't understand that, and he followed her on each opportunity... It just broke my heart every time..
I've always seen Kikyo as a banshee.. a lost soul.. she died with all that anger, hopelessness and pain because of the treason of Inuyasha, so i always see it like when she was resurrected, all those feeling were WAY too strong, like it was the way spirits worked. Then she had the time to get a balance and understand everything.
And sure, she wasn't all funny, energetic and clumsy as Kagome was. I like Kagome a lot, why not? she was a nice person, really mature about feelings and funny. But i adore Kikyo too. She was different. Sure, she wasn't a funny and clumsy girl, but why everyone has to be like that? She still deserved to be with the person she loved and to have happiness

Daniela stor I tried liking Kikyo by seeing things from her pov but I couldn't forgive her after she betrayed Inuyasha a second time by taking the jewel and helping Naraku. Basically her not being a priestess meant she could be free to be mean if she wanted to. Granted I did like her more in the Final Act though.

Maybe not intentionally; I'll give you that, but she ended up doing so. She was stupidly arrogant and that motion did cause problems later. Besides, if she really wanted to do that, why didn't she just wait until the jewel was complete to steal and give it to Naraku? That made no sense for her to give him half of it if that was her plan. Because obviously, Inuyasha and Kagome were gonna go get it back making that motion extremely pointless. She's also mocked Naraku over and over about not being able to kill her because of Onigumo (might have just been once or so, still stupid) giving him ideas on how to get stronger and eliminate her and more people woot. Yay, Kikyo.
Kikyo actually has the most tragic story out of everyone.
1. She wanted to become an ordinary woman but can’t because of her duty as a guardian of the jewel.
2. She met a man who changed all her perspectives but then died knowing she was betrayed by the same man. She died with a lot of hatred hence not reaching Nirvana (ultimate goal in Buddhism).
3. She got resurrected unwillingly with clay body and having need to leech on other souls just to keep herself going. Wandering the world trying to look for her purpose.
4. She discovered the true story about her and inuyasha how naraku tricked them. She still loves inuyasha but she knows they can’t be together so she tried to bring him to hell with her. But Inuyasha was saved by Kagome’s voice someone who now holds his heart and someone who was actually her reincarnation.
5. After being resurrected, she tried to settle down in a village lived as a priestess and played with children contemplating with herself “I can live here.” Even telling the monk who discovered her secret that she wants to live quietly in that village. But fate just won’t let her. The monk who tried to kill her died on the process witnessed by the kid Sayo who got very scared of her. This forced her to leave that village.
6. She eventually accepted Kagome as Inuyasha’s new love. She’s always trying to act tough and emontionless in front of Inuyasha but get suddenly soft when hugged or told that he loves her. But she’ll snap back to her senses before being completely carried away. She’s that mature. “Once the thread of destiny becomes tangled, it cannot be undone” Saying that to herself while flying away from Inuyasha.
7. She saved rin, kohaku and koga. She put Monk Hakushin to Nirvana. Another holy person who got tainted with evil before dying. She still hoped her soul will be saved and reach Nirvana herself. She spent the rest of her life helping people.
Wow she really tried to accept her death and live peacefully knowing inuyasha would not be with her. It was heart breaking seeing her end up having to leave Sayo and the village she hoped to live a more normal life in.
I loved how she in the end accepted that Kagome was capable enough of Killing Naraku, and transferred her light to Kohaku, which eventually let him live. Truly the best character in the series.

It's ridiculous how an anime character is more mature, wise devoted and thoughtful than most people you've encountered in real life.

To be fair a lot of people misunderstand Kikyou at that age. I know I did, but I grew out of it. She's a very layered character and the show changes her actions in the manga sometimes to her detriment. Kagome and Kikyou are both great.

People who hated her simply didn't understand her. Seriously. She was the best character and the most tragic. She was tricked into thinking the one she loved betrayed and killed her. And in the end she loved Inuyasha too much to kill him and instead sealed him.
That is true! When I was younger I didn't like Kikyo because I couldn't understand her. But now I am older and I understand Kikyo. She was beautiful and she died so young and this 2 times. She had a short and sad life. And unfortunately she couldn't see Naraku's end together with Inuyasha and the others.

She suffered in the past, when she died thinking she was betrayed. She alsó suffered in the present cause she can see her reality...her life was stolen and she wasn't alive against her willing. For me, Kikyo is the best character because she was very mature, she understood that Inuyasha had another life now and, even more, she always faced Naraku by herself with no help from others. Kagome was proyected by Inuyasha and Kikyo wasn't...she overcome all the ugly circounstances by her own she did'n have options like Kagome had...Kikyo was a great character, she didn't deserve all that!!! Rumiko has the fault...

Love or hate Kikyo, she's the ultimate tragic character hero/heroine. I'm not an emotional person, but watching the whole InuYasha series definitely took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. You feel almost exactly what the characters feel when they are feeling it. Joy, pain, sorrow, tragedy, remorse, revenge, it's all there! That's why I feel that after all these years that InuYasha is arguably the best anime out there.
If you think about it, the anime actually kinda revolves around her. Without her as the protector of the jewel Naraku wouldn’t have had anything to do with Inuyasha, Inuyasha wouldn’t have been interested in fighting for the good, just for himself like before meeting Kikyo, Kagome wouldn’t have had powers and wouldn’t have come to Sengoku jidai, and even if she came...Inuyasha first started to like her because she reminded him of Kikyo (remember when he tried to kiss her in the beginning thinking she looked like Kikyo?). Even though InuKag is apparently the center of the attention, the main deal is actually InuKik, because that’s the background of the whole story.
Man, rewatching Inuyasha as an adult really makes me realize how tragic Kikiyo's character arc is. There is so much sadness in her eyes and her theme does a fantastic job of conveying that sadness.

And telling Naraku about his weakness (the whole "your heart can't bear to kill me" thing), which was basically aiding the enemy, which eventually led to him ripping out his own heart and killing her. Also, giving Kagura the stone cup in Movie 2, which was helping the opponent start a whole disaster. But oh well... that's okay.
you have to remember that after she helped him she vowed to destroy onigumo for what he did to her and inuyasha - that sets her apart from naraku and the other bad guys in the series and makes her human. she was freer than she was before and less constrained to despair and hatred.
It was ok she helped Onigumo,but only mistake she did was she couldn’t see the risk of helping onigumo,and keep him secrets from other village people but kaede.
She should have known her job was very dangerous,and may be she should have looked for another woman,who could do her job since after falling in love with Inuyasha,her magical strength weakened.

Kikyo was the main victim of all. Anyway, she could not have stayed with Inuyasha because she was already dead. Her soul wouldn't have any salvation. Kikyo suffered alone. Early in the story, she hates Inuyasha just because she don't know the truth yet.. she doesn't know it was a Naraku's plan to separate Inuyasha from her. The heart of Onigumo was dirty, he wanted her more than anything and didn't want anyone near to her. So, when Onigumo became Naraku, he did everything to kill Inuyasha. But from a moment in the story, Kikyo no longer thought to kill Inuyasha, she just wanted to find and destroy Naraku to die in peace and rest. I like Kikyo. I feel sorry for her story... She had a compassionate heart. Love this song!

Lack of understanding about her character is the main problem. People get caught up on the two bad things she did in the series and they don't concentrate on the tons of good things she did. It was Kikyo's arrow Kagome shot to kill Naraku so ultimately Kagome still wasn't strong enough to defeat Naraku on her own which I'm not Kagome bashing but c'mon Rumiko Kagome is the heroine of the series could she at least have gotten slightly stronger instead of Inu getting all powerful and Kagome staying weak and needing his protection. They argue Kikyo wants to take Inuyasha to hell with her which is also untrue she gave up that plan very early in the series. They also blame Kikyo for Inuyasha coming to her. Really its not Kikyo's fault she only called him too her once and both times Naraku is discussed and he comes back with something to give Kagome.

Why I ship Inuyasha and Kikyo.
I will never understand Rumiko and what she was thinking when she created Kikyo. I mean, How can you create such a wonderful character, so deep, so psychologically accurate, so serious and then put a childish girl like Kagome next to her and pretend she's her reincarnation, she's like her....and worst of all that Inuyasha sees Kikyo in her. Sometimes I found myself thinking that it will be SO MUCH BETTER and SO LESS PAINFUL if Kikyo was never resurrected at all. The reason why Kikyo is so hated is because she's a REALLY mature character, one of the most deep characters I've seen so far....and you can't expect that little teens, that spend their time fangirling over unlikely and untrue fairy-tales, can see her true beauty. So, Rumiko, why!? Why did you do this to that poor character of yours?!

Kikyo is a tragic character and I'm so glad there are people out there who takes time to look past her cold demeanor and see the powerful, intelligent, beautiful and sad character she was. I love her because although her life is a tragedy, she still continued helping others right until the end. Kikyo is my goddess and favorite female anime character. EVER.

So if Kagome is Kikyo 's reincarnation it's her second chance at being free and to be with her love once again. Kikyo being brought back to life does make things screwy though but then again it's good she found out she didn't die betrayed by her love.

Edit: Actually, I reconsider; Kikyo is, by far, more complex and mature than Kagome. But I don't think it should go THAT far as to say that she is an utterly incompetent failure compared to Kikyo. She has her own conditions, thoughts, lessons, and personality, which adds to the humor and uniqueness of InuYasha. If we had another tragic copy of Kikyo, it probably wouldn't turn out as well and the plot won't be as interesting.
You didn't understand what I mean for "mature character", Kikyo isn't mature 'cause she's "serious" or "trained as priestess", i'm talking about writing here, character development, so those things are not the point of my speech. Kikyo is the typical anti-hero, that one character that has so many issues that make it unique and not easy to understand. Kagome is the typical cheerful girl "everything is okay because I say so", but nothing more; she didn't teach me nothing, she didn't leave me any kind of emotion, because she's predictable. That's why for me is insane to think that they are the same person.
Same. While Kikyo affected me on so many levels, Kagome just paled in comparison to her. To me, Kagome, despite being the main heroine, was never as memorable, never as interesting, never as layered as Kikyo was. Every day I think back to Inuyasha as one of my first-ever anime, and the character I always remember first is Kikyo. In fact, I tend not to think of Kagome at all, because she didn't teach me anything, didn't really appeal to me, and didn't leave any sort of impression on me when I finished.
Kikyo, the girl who made Inuyasha cry... that scene was so intense when we saw Inuyasha cry, holding Kikyo in his arms while she slowly passed away. Its always hard to see, when the hero starts to cry for the first time.

Just came here after finishing the manga and I must say that the anime version portrayed Kikyo and Kagome more extreme than they were in the manga version (Kagome being more dramatic and childish while Kikyo selfish and full of hatred). And I have to say that Kikyo is the one of the best character ever created. Her life is full of sadness and despair. Died thinking she’s been betrayed by her only love, revived, again and again, only to witness her love with someone else (worse being that someone else is her reincarnation) and knowing that she cannot be with him for reasons she’s dead and simply not meant to be. She seemed to know that Kagome was the version of her that got to be loved and be the ordinary woman she desired to be, but still, she ached at the fact that it wasn’t her who got the love. When knew about Naraku and his evil doings, she devoted her life to kill him and revenge her soul. She had chose to do the right thing and stayed away from him. Kikyo is not only so intelligent and powerful but also mature, kind and considerate. She loved deeply and doesn’t deserve all the hate at all. The anime version might portrait her and her story in a more extreme way and also they have changed some of the lines to make this love triangle weigh more on Inuyasha-loves-Kikyo-more side but you can see in the mange he’s kinda neutral imo.

The crappy part is that no matter how much you want inuyasha and Kikyo to be together you realize that it became impossible once Kikyo died. I have nothing against kagome's character but Kikyo seems the better fit. Truly a tragic love story.

They literally couldn't be together because of her duty as a priestess and him being a half demon. If they removed the problem which was the jewel, then she and him could have been together. But I'm pretty sure she would have loved him whether he was half demon or fully human.

Those who love Kikyo are empathetic people with high EQ …they know they can feel how painful it is to be lonely and tragic…they know how life is void of love.they are understanding not everyone likes Kikyou for that reason..being rational and pragmatic will not always give you happiness

I started watching Inuyasha when I was 4 or 5 years old.
Kikyo's story seemed to me the saddest and most tragic even at that time.
When I grew up, thanks to the Internet, I found out that a lot of people hate her and I don't really understand it. She never had a chance in life and yet she fought to the end for the good. She died "because" of his lover (in his mind) to later revive and see that he already loved another woman. It's very sad.

He found himself lost in words whenever they suddenly crossed paths, not only because he has trouble expressing himself, but also due to the complexity of the whole thing and his strong feelings of love, guilt, hope and despair. He didn't know what he needed to do.

Honestly inuyasha was the first ever anime I watched and it was in English dub. That’s what got me to like subbed anime because it was so good. I tried watching the sub version and it just can’t compare to inuyasha’s dub voice. The dub inuyasha will always and I mean ALWAYS be superior.
During my childhood, I always hated Kikyo when I watched Inuyasha. I felt she was mean and constantly came in between Inuyasha and Kagome. But, the more times I watch the series, the more I feel that she was the biggest victim of them all. She never got to be with Inuyasha and was basically punished for falling in love with him. Her resurrection was terrible because whatever little love she did have left for Inuyasha turned into hatred and resentment. Her second death is still disturbing. She deserved so much better and so much more.
That is called maturing. Kikyou was too intense and serious a character for most teens to understand. So they associated with the more happy go lucky type (Kagome) because they could relate a person with less... stress, responsibility, goals? Who knows, I just recall the majority of young readers/watchers hated her for no reason because they could not or chose not to see her pain and sympathize. I hear a lot of that now, I've rewatched the series and now see things in a different light. It's called growing up.
I do think that Kagome suits Inuyasha more, but Inuyasha truly loves Kikyo. Kagome was a healthy rebound for him, she slowly closed his wounds up and helped him move on from Kikyo. But in all honesty, if it came down to one for him to choose, who do you think Inuyasha would choose? It would 100% be Kikyo. And if Kikyo would have lived on, Inuyasha would have leaned towards her more and eventually gone back to her. His true love is Kikyo, you can tell this by him always running blindly towards her without even thinking. His stubbornness and hardness is immediately shut down and softened the moment he crosses paths with her, because of how powerful his love was for her. He never has to think twice or go into deep thoughts about how he feels towards her. It's sad because all Kikyo wanted was to live the life of an ordinary woman and live a peaceful life with her lover. It's not that they weren't meant to be, it's that there was a curse placed upon her by Tsubaki, and so her ending was destined to be tragic. However, her emotions clouded that and she loved Inuyasha anyway. And on top of that her powers became weaker because her heart had become more soft. Falling in love made her vulnerable to evil demons because she couldn't sense danger the same way or as strongly. Kagome deserves Inuyasha too, but only after Kikyo is gone. As long as Kikyo was alive, Kagome had no place in their lives and the true love was only between Inuyasha and Kikyo.

Honestly, I liked Kikyo a lot more. She was tragic and I really liked her... But, to make myself feel better, Kagome and Kikyos soul was and is one and the same (minus a little bit that went to heaven) but it makes me happier, that way both of them are with Inuyasha. I never really see Kikyo as a bad person or a threat to Inuyasha squad given all the drama and shizz that circles around her. For me, (forgive me for saying this) she's like Itachi of Naruto. She will forever be my favorite female anime character (and trust me, ive seen a lot of animes) In the end, im still glad and happy for her that she got what she wanted given all the pain and sorrows she had to endure alone.

Inuyasha has way better story then all of the anime that I had seen so far its so good and the music is so badass and soothing to the ears as well and all of the characters are all interesting to me especially Sesshomaru.
I'd like to believe Kikyo meets Dr Suikotsu in the otherworld and mate with him, the two had a good bond were undead and were admired by children.
Then Naraku eventually does go to where Kikyo is but is trapped in a cocoon like Freeza in Dragon Ball Super and forced to watch her mate with Dr. Suikotsu forever.
Out of all of the soundtracks in Inuyasha, this one is always the one that gets to me the most emotionally and puts me on the verge of tears, and has even made me shed tears a couple of times. Kikyo and Inuyasha were supposed to have happy and romantic lives with each other, but were robbed of this all because of Naraku and his dark ambitions and selfish desires. This is indeed a sad and terrible tragedy, and it makes me feel pity for Kikyo. I can truly feel the pain and sorrow that is in this song.

She is my favorite anime character. When I was 8 years old I watched Inuyasha only for her. Such a deep and complex character, even after all she went through she was still kind enough to help others. She understands
Inuyasha will never be with her even though she still has deep feelings for him, but she is capable of giving up her feelings and not interfering between Kagome and Inuyasha, because in the end that’s what she does.
After she is ressurected, only hate and bitterness keep her alive and yet she shows kindness towards others and by the end she is “ enlighted”.
She tried to “kill “Kagome, but if she really wanted to kill her, she would have never missed the opportunity to do that because when she has a plan, nothing can stop her.
She sacrifices her life and youth protecting the jewel and she is capable of thinking for the general good not only for her personal gain, and I think this is where people don’t understand her, she is seeing the bigger picture, Kikyo wants to kill Naraku along with destroying the jewel.
Even by the brick of death she is still not thinking to save herself, she wants the jewel to vanish so she has the jewel burned with her body to not be possessed by evil hands.
Some people say she wanted to change Inuyasha wanting him to become a human, but this is not the case ( she fell in love with him, a haf-demon), she wants that jewel gone, again she is thinking of the bigger picture.
Kikyo actually helps Kagome seeing her own power, when Tsubaki tried to kill Kagome she knew Kagome was powerful and that Tsubaki’s plan would fail, and she was right.
When she is alone in the cage with Kagome, she is telling her to leave because she, Kikyo was already dead, but Kagome had a chance to save herself, again proving that she is selfless.
Kikyo is one of the deepest character ever created, and Rumiko did an excelent job portraying her. She shows kindness out of hatred and she SACRIFICES a lot, always putting the greater good above her wishes and desires, and even her life.
Calm and mature, even when her inside is mess, she always follows her plan, never letting anything interfering with it.
I think she was glad that she finally found her peace at the end because she hated the way she sustained her life and only used the souls of the dead to live enough to destroy Naraku and the jewel.
I also believe that she gets to live through Kagome, because she wished deep down to be an ordinary woman and to see Inuyasha again and Kagome’ s life is what she wished for.

Unfortunately, we all will. I, for one, would love to see that too, even if she finds happiness with someone else (I've always shipped her with Sesshoumaru in my mind). They would have been anime's power couple. But (sighs), it was not meant to be.
I want to think Kikyo's soul was destined to be with Inuyasha, so when she died life brought Kagome to him, but that witch went against nature by bringing her back, however without Kikyo, Naraku was never going to be defeated, so she needed to live a little longer. Kikyo is my favorite character since I´m 9 years old :)

Of course they aren’t the same as in DNA, but that’s what reincarnated means - that the soul is the same. I truly believe that as well - that Kikyo got to be with Inuyasha in the end through Kagome.
What really distinguishes and elevates Inuyasha from Rumiko Takahashi's other works is its core of Greek-style tragedy, which tightly bonded by the fates of two characters, Kikyo and Naraku. Beyond the superficial protagonists doing cliche stuff all the time, the story started because of these two, and end with these two. You can find many Inuyasha-like and Kagome-like characters in different Animes and Comics, but not for Kikyo. If you know Rumiko, you will know how much effort she put on her and she really wanted to jump out her old, formed style. None the less, such a complicated character is hard to handle. I'm just a little bit sad that she admitted that she was kinda "lose controll on Kikyo" in the later volumes and eventually failed to end the Manga in a more elevated way. BTW she also said "I tried to give her the most decent leaving as I can, though I still feel sorry for Kikyo"
I can imagine her humming this to the children in her village and to when her sister could see in both eyes she’s smiling and having the gewl right beside her when I saw kikyo for the first time I was instantly attached her story was amazing and very tragic and it really breaks my heart knowing that people are hating on her 🤍❤️🖤

Seems like Naraku himself was a tragic character in the way he wanted this womans love and was completely manipulated by the jewel and over time became so twisted and ensnared by it he completely forgot why he wanted it in the first place only to realize at the end when it was too late that the jewel never granted your real wish
At first I hated her because of how she treated Kagome but I understood where she was coming from. I cried when she died in Inuyasha's arms. Imagine if you loved someone so much that even though you thought they betrayed you, you followed them in death. She was willing to give up her miko powers for him and he his demon powers for her. At least her soul was able to cross over without any pain or suffering. Like a ghost she came back angry and cursed but she was able to change her heart. All this pain was for a man who thought he could have her anyway necessary. It taught me a life lesson, if you love someone let them know while they are still here.
I don’t think I can live in peace knowing kikyo never got her happy ending. She’s a hero who was wronged and misunderstood by many. Sad that little teenagers prefer kagome while sending hate to kikyo. It shows they never understood the anime or have a feelings. Try looking at everything for her point of view, put yourself in her shoes. She didn’t deserve dying like that, being separated from the one she loved, being told she’ll never see him, being resurrected to find Inuyasha has a another girl and then to only to die again. She is the true heroine of this anime, the creators did her dirty and so did the so called Kagome fans. Y’all never felt the pain and torture kikyo had to go through.

Obviously you never understood the anime or manga. Inuyasha is rooted in Japan's two main &oldest religion, Buddhism and shintoism. If you understand the concept of the two, you'll understand that kikyo and kagome are the same person and how actually beautiful the story is because of that. The idea of karma weaves a beautiful tale betweem inuyasha and kikyo (kagome). It teaches us to except that bitterness is part of life but if you stay true, you'll never be worn down by it.
also I think its important to draw a distinction between "dead" kikyo and alive kikyo( the one from flashbacks and kagome). Like kaede says, the dead kikyo is nothing but an illusion brought forth by urasuae's magic. Dead kikyo is made up of the bitter memories and hatred of kikyos soul during the time of her death. The " Dead" kikyo we see through out the series is not the real kikyo. Even dead kikyo herself knew this, but because she holds the memories of the real kikyo and believes herself to be kikyo, she is unable to move on, thus living tormentally throughout the series. It just goes to show how important amd powerful the "real" kikyo's was to the story of inuyasha, to which her soul was able to reincarnate as kagome as well as manifest as a pretty powerful clone during the entire series. When dead kikyo finally dies during the final act, I believe her soul was purified by kagome's arrow, thus releasing that bitter part of kikyos soul, which then time traveled back to the future to join the soul that reincarnated as kagome. Thus explains why kagome was described to have such a big soul by urasurae during the begining of the series and would explain why dead kikyo and kagome were able to exist at the same time during the series.

Kikyo has and always will be someone dear to me so special no one has gotten to that level before. I've loved her for 10 years now and my love for her only grows. She was beautiful, elegant, graceful and so kind and deserved happiness. I yearn for her to find true happiness, even if it's only in my imagination that I can give it to her.

I remember when I first started watching inuyasha when I was about 12 or 13 kikyo was my least favorite character. I think I was too young to understand her character depth and her development. I'm rewatching the series and I'm 30 now. I can finally appreciate her character and wish I had sooner. Shes tragic and very much underappreciated. Her story and emotions are haunting and I'm only on season one. I will definitely be torn apart watching her story this time around 😔. I think the people that hate her should rewatch and give her a chance. Don't get me wrong I still like kagome and all but Kikyo deserves better recognition.

Well Kagome does admit (while the baby Akago was trying to find the dark in her heart) that she feel very jealous of Kikyo and that there was even moments when she would wish that Kikyo dissapear,but even so the times she could have let Kikyo to die she didn't..she saved her because she had a big heart and she knew how much Kikyo mean for Inuyasha ,and the love Kagome had for him made her value more his happiness over her own.Of course she would get jealous and crushed but seeing Inuyasha happy was worthy for her.
Lady Kikyo and Lord Sesshomaru are my favorite characters. Kikyo's theme is so relaxing I used to study to this. Kikyo daisuki arigato.

A complex love triangle and a more complex situation for one of my all time favorite characters. Kikyo, such a deep character. She at first was bitter and jealous not only over inuyasha but over her unfortunate circumstances. Her position didnt allow her to show weakness and when she did it cost her. Seeing the truth of her demise she is happy she has a second chance at life to live in a way she could not. "free to hate free to love". Indeed she hated, and indeed she was resentful and mean. The very thing she died for still in the world and was brought back by her reincarnation who is with the love of her life while she is forced to be without any of it. She burns through all the hate, changes, and for the first time she and kagome help eachother out. She tells kagome to leave her cuz she is dead. She knows she cant be with inuyasha and she is just existing. She returns to her original self in bringing naraku's demise and riding the world of the shikon jewel. In her last moments she gives her last to help everyone and is freed with a kiss from the man she could never truly have. In the end she got to discover herself and reveal her truest and darkest emotions. No longer holding back. In her second life she lived more than she ever thought she would and got all the closure she needed.
To be honest, Kagome was rather boring for me.
Gretel I wouldn’t say boring I just think kikyo was a more interesting and complex character. I was always curious what she would do next.

Kikyo has been and will always remain my favorite character in this franchise. Her theme also captures the tragedy behind her character very well. When kikyo died for real the last time, I legit sobbed.
Kikyo was my favorite character in the anime... I won't like I cried when she died(permanently) but I was happy for her because she was finally at peace. A lot of people hated her because of her beginning hatred for inuyasha, but she was madly in love with him. And when Naraku killed her she believed inuyasha killed her and betrayed her. At the time of her death her heart had broken and her souls peace was shattered in that moment, she couldn't find peace in death, then she was resurrected and her heart was once again broken. Her anger was out of sorrow. And your heart can only be broken so many times before it begins to blacken. She did redeem herself but still had a broken heart. If anyone else is a total geek for the show you would also know that she was only 18 when she died. She was still young. Her mind still able to be broken and her heart still brittle. All of her sorrow and pain would leave a permanent scar that could never truly heal.

+Desert Eagle Inuyasha was 150 years old(200 when he was woke at the start of the series). Biologically he looks like 15. Funny thing is he acts this way when he is with Kagome, but more mature when he is with Kikyo.

So beautiful, yet so sad. I really loved her character so much.. she was the only one that opened up to Inuyasha first. She died believing that Inuyasha had betrayed her. It left her heart in hatred and filled her up with feelings of emptiness. I’m so happy she died in Inuyasha’s arms for the last time

When she died the third time... That scene gets me every single time. When her light surrounds Inuyasha and the shinidamachu circle around them, and Kagome says "it's so warm" I'm just crying because it's so beautiful 😭💔 oh Kikyo...

When Kikiyo died she was full of hatred for Inuyasha....but her love for Inuyasha was still in her, Not only was Kikiyos looks and spiritual powers (Not even to mention the sacred jewel) was reincarnated into Kagome, but her love for Inuyasha as well. Yes There are times when Kikiyo AND Kagome want to kill Inuyasha but They are both still in love with him. I know people are like KIKIYO SHOULD JUST DIE ALREADY Kagome is also like that too. But it always ends up hurting Inuyasha which hurts Kagome (I know Ive posted stuff where Im like Kikiyo should just die and Im sorry for confusing people with my opinions) Kikiyo has a very large role in this, If its wasnt for her, Kagome and Inuyasha may have never even met. Pleases comment what you think about this.

Question is, when kikyo bounded inuyasha to the tree... She could have killed inuyasha with the sacred arrow. instead, she used the sealing arrow to put him to sleep. Did kikyo really, truly hate inuyasha? If so she could have killed him in an instant.

Stereotypically as a black jock growing up in a tough area, it blew my mind at how sensitive this anime made me feel growing up. I never felt this way about any other show. Lol I would never tell my bris how much I liked this show either. I still get a little teary eyed when I here this song..... good times.
Kikyo is very pretty and compassionate,.......and her theme fits perfectly. Poor soul, she couldn't rest because of missing Inuyasha and until Naraku would be defeated.......
She also felt pity for Onigumo.
Kikyo is the most impressive anime character. She is the key to the story, the love and hatred. Above all, she had enlightened herself to the truth of the life. Kikyo is like an angel burying in the night of sin. Her pain, her fighting and compassion are so beautiful!

My favorite character of the entire series. So much so that I named my cat after her.
Kikyo was the best character of the series. The one who's quest felt the most important and worth following as a companion. Shes also very relatable to me now as an adult. She had duties, a goal in life...then she found love in a young man. She gave him her heart and due to unforeseen circumstances at the hands of evil, her heart was stolen unable to return now only wondering with her duties without a motive, without purpose, just to do it. Even if she fell, she had nothing left to loose. I think when we are in love, hand our heart to those worthy and its tossed aside like it was worthless, we move on but with no goal to reach and we begin to reserve or never trust our feelings again. In essence and another Universe, Kikyo's traits would have made her a powerful and wise Jedi Knight. The inability to let her weaknesses cloud her judgment, but if put on the path of giving her heart to someone not worthy could turn that power very easily to the dark side. So when the tragedy unfolded for her, she becomes more wise to assist and complete her quest, it no longer is for herself or her significant other, it's for humanity as a whole making her sacrifice by the end all the more sad but respected emmensly. She died so the goodness of humanity could thrive. That's big time props. Kikyo is awesome. Fuck the haters!
Muy linda serie una de las mejores que vi en mi infancia , una historia muy profunda, kikyo siempre fue mi personaje favorito me banque miles de capitulos para ver que es lo que iba a hacer al final.....luego durante años creo, dejaron de hacer capitulos y no vi nunca mas porque crei que quedaria ahi la serie sin poder terminarla porque era muy dificil darle un final y todos creiamos que iba a quedar un final abierto ya que habia muchas historias por cerrar.......ahora luego de tantos años vi que la terminaron y fue como volver a esa epoca con toda la emocion de mirar los capitulos que manera de tragar saliva ....

When I was young I didn't understand Kiko's pain, now as an adult, I finally realized that she was a sad soul and never had the chance to be free and happy.
At the beginning of the series, I didn’t have a positive first impression on Kikyo. Once I understood her feelings and her choices, I realized that I can relate to her. I learned to not judge others, and to keep doing the right thing even if no one else supports me.
This theme always gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. It's so beautiful yet sorrowful just like Kikyo. Literally the perfect theme for her.
I liked Kikyo from when I was like 10,I never felt hate towards her. Not until I re watch the whole series, I realised she wanted to be with inuyasha again so she tried to kill Kagome like almost but after all that and knowing about the truth she finally accepted that Kagome will take her place to help inuyasha! And Kikyo starts her mission to destroy Naraku and finally die in peace.😶
Initially I wasn't heartfelt for her, then as the series continued I fell for her pain, her longing the total anguish for he existence. She did what was her destiny not what her heart wanted. She is so misunderstood. She is powerful, she is the truth.

Cathy Le try to read the manga, it explains things a bit more detailed than the anime, even when the anime is already clear at everything, the manga is more clearer in story line especially for Kikyo, I prefer the kikyo in the manga, it made me feel for her more than the anime so..........I suggest that you should try reading it. It's much better✌️️
