Some of us were lucky to have had that conversation with our fathers and I'm so thankful I did over the last 48 hours of his life. Unfortunately, I never got the opportunity with my mum because I wasn't there and she wouldn't have understood me anyway because she'd 'died' a year or so before with Dementia.
No song was ever as beautiful or as true. I think that is why it resonates with so many. As I type this comment, I'm sitting in my office with pictures of 4 generations of my family surrounding me. Believe me, the words of this song are so very, very true, and will always be true.
Seen Paul a few times now...and tbh,this performance as got to be the best ive seen and heard..even though my father is still alive,we didnt get on when i was younger...but when we went to see Paul at the Loury in Salford i told my Dad i loved him while Paul sang this song..it brought us both to tears...so yeah "say it loud,and say it clear"...Peace x

If I can suggest anything to what is otherwise a prefect performance, was that he'd have improvised a bit longer on the end chorus. I've seen "extended" versions of this song where he gives me chills with his stunningly beautiful phrasing and vocal inflections. I put this guy on the same "soul" level as Aretha, Stevie Wonder, and probably a select other few.

Music does not come any better than this. Paul Carrack is truly blessed to have a voice like that.
