As someone who's also a (recovering) alcoholic I can respect the struggles he's had with it. Always liked his characters; calm, collected Chad types. Wish him the best.
Somehow Biehn always seemed to give his characters, be they hero or villan, the feeling they really had been through some tough times before hand, but still felt like a relatable guy. Forget about Stallone or Schwarzenegger, as a kid, Dwayne Hicks was always the hero I most wanted to be.
Thank you SO MUCH for doing this vid. I've always been a fan of his since The Terminator and followed him ever since. It seemed like he got sidelined and I could never figure out why. My eyes would go to him in any project he was in and to be honest, I crushed on him hard. It was a disappointment to see him get taken out of the Terminator franchise. Nice brief documentary for one of my favorite actors! My favorite character role is Reece in Terminator but his roles in Tombstone and Aliens were also excellent.
I was very surprised that he played the villain in the Abyss. I am very familiar with Biehn and i saw the Abyss but I just didnt recoginze him. The mustache and the change in acting made him just another person. He really is a great actor.
Biehn on Aliens is maybe _the_ best performance ever in an action movie. If not the best, well absolutely top5. Insanely charismatic performance. You can't dislike his performance.
Please dont forget "The Rock". Way to little scene , but really god. My first encounter was "Navy SEALS" with Charlie Sheen.. And yes, absolutely loved him in Aliens...
He had a small role in The Walking Dead (season 11, I think) and was very good. I also really liked him in a little movie called Silver Wolf. He plays a forest ranger and he and his nephew save a shot wolf.
I was more into Biehn's movies in the 90'S then almost any other action actor. Loved every single one from aliens to navy seals, but i think the his supporting role as ringo in tombstone was the one that cemented him into my brain forever.
I'd expected the reason for Biehn's career not going where I'd thought it would to be down to typecasting and maybe choosing roles poorly -- didn't know about his drinking. Glad he's doing better these days. It surprised me a little that he wasn't cast in Avatar, knowing how Cameron often likes to reuse the same actors, though I guess we know the reason now. He definitely had the chops to play Stephen Lang's part as the main antagonist; he's actually 4 years younger than Lang. Have to say, he is a guy who does rock a moustache, which isn't the case for everyone! Thinking on that, Timothy Olyphant - who's about to star in the Alien series on FX - always reminded me slightly of Biehn, at least in his moustachioed role in Deadwood.
Favourite role? Terminator as Kyle Reece, Aliens as Cpl Dwayne Hicks, the Abyss as Hiram Coffey and Tombstone as Ringo. In each role he is simply perfect.
James at 15 was one of my favourite shows when I was a kid, not just for Lance Kerwin, but for Melissa Sue Anderson and some pretty good teen drama in its day. Sadly, the star of the show, Lance Kerwin, was forced to grow up, and the show jumped the shark when the show changed from James at 15 to James at 16.
Sad. He was a truly great actor and a gorgeous man. Aliens is by far my fave, with Terminator right behind it. Horrible what addiction can do. I wish him the best.
He was a big action hero of mine. He played a kind of believable character, not some steroided monstrosity that much of Hollywood went for in the '80's. I met him at a convention a few years back and spoke with him for a few minutes. He impresed me as a very straightforward yet humble man.
Loved Biehn as Johnny Ringo . Had that Psycho look a killer would wear as he twirled and spun his revolver putting a formidable fright into his would be victim. Terminator, Aliens and the Abyss showed his chiseled facial features that Director Cameron saw and is why I always looked for more movies with him as a lead or semi-lead role. Damn Alcohol. Glad your doing well and the few roles you did have sure knocked it out of the park in my book. Congratulations Michael Biehn.

My favorite role for Biehn was in K2.
"I come to places like this with you to find a a little grace, you know? I don't want to be selfish all my life. I want some nobility goddamn it!"
@@waltblackadar4690 that's a great shout! He's fantastic in that❤️
His roles in The Abyss and Tombstone display, for me, what an incredible actor Michael is.
Love the commentary, pacing, and insight of this video. That being said, whatever audio mix that is being used makes me feel like I'm being talked to from 8 different directions when wearing headphones.
Thank you for this. LOVED him in Tombstone!
👏👏👏👏👏
As someone who's also a (recovering) alcoholic I can respect the struggles he's had with it. Always liked his characters; calm, collected Chad types. Wish him the best.
K2 1991...this film got me into climbing!
Yes!! Nice pic. Almost forgot
I really enjoyed him In Terminator and Aliens 👽. He was an amazing talent. Tombstone is one my favorites also.
I can only imagine that was a blow to him and his career despite working again with James Cameron in Aliens.
I haven't seen anything in the media after all these years that's actually addressed this, so thanks!
@@Sab_MJsMama you're very welcome. I've been a fan of his since The Terminator myself and was curious as to what had happened to him. He has a podcast you need to check out. He's just started it!
80s 90s movies paradise
Loved him. He will tell you he fell hard into the trap of addiction, which ruined his career. Then a stroke. But he's still recognizable and he's still out there. He featured in many classics. Many actors would kill for some of these roles he's been in.
Wow he’s done well to recover from stroke as I am a stroke survivor myself it the hardest thing I have ever come back from❤love him in terminator and aliens great actor👍
I'm glad he got to reprise his role as Hicks in the Aliens Colonial Marines video game.
James McNeil from Command&Conquer Tiberian Sun video game :)
First, saw him in the 1981 movie “The Fan” where he played a handsome psychopathic killer.
Is that the one where he climbs over a sleeping woman and screams in her face to terrify her?
@@sputumtube I don't recall that. The scene I remember is where they show his face while a guy from a gay bar is going down on him (and he then kills him).
I met him in Hawaii we talked for a hot minute pretty good guy I have his autograph on my wall
You're kidding! That's amazing, I'm jealous!!
I love that guy forever!
Oh my. I fell SO BIG TIME in Terminator. Loved him in all his films after. ❤❤❤
My all time favorite characters with Biehn are as Reese, Hicks and Johnny Ringo. But he is also good in Navy Seals from 1990. Another movie you also forgot to mention. And in The Rock. And in Planet Terror.
Michael Biehn is one of my favorite underrated actors. He plays an awesome good guy as well as a great bad guy. And he always got promotions in every movie. 🤪😂🤣. Corporal Hicks, Sergeant Reese, Lieutenant Coffey. 👍🙂😎. My favorite good guy was of course Sergeant Kyle Reese. My favorite bad guy role was Lieutenant Coffey, but then I saw him as Johnny Ringo in Tombstone. DAAAMMMNNN!
Mike is one of the best actors I've ever seen. From the original ' the fan' movie he's nailed the parts in movies that could never be duplicated. And left a fan base that is tougher than steel. 😂❤
That's going way back...I remember that ;)
He's definitely awesome in the Terminator and Aliens. I haven't seen him in that western. Only Western movies I've watched were with Clint Eastwood, and Billy the kids Young Guns with Emilio Esteban I believe is his name.
I'm definitely going to check out that Western with Michael since you recommended it.
Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
He's fantastic in the criminally over looked The Divide too.
This actor is truly iconic. We all have personal struggles, but he gave us roles we will remember for the rest of our lives. I’d like to throw Bill Paxton into that as well. That car salesman in True Lies will never be forgotten.
October4th its 30 years since I joined the Army. There I saw several of my now fave movies like Alien, Aliens, the Omen etc. Will watch The Terminator in the cinema in October4th. Miss Biehn in movies.
@@gamleskalle1 You and me both! He has a podcast now, I recommend you check it out!
You forgot to mention the 1991 HBO movie "Strapped" which was directed by Forrest Whitaker in which Michael Bien played a NYC Detective trying to uncover an illegal gun distributor.
@@casimon6185 unfortunately I don't think it aired in the U.K! I will have to try and find it!
You forgot The Rock, he was great in that. Still was handsome like he was in Aliens.
I love him and wish he was back
Nice brief documentary for one of my favorite actors!
He's great , I wish him the best...........!!!🤠👍
Biehn on Aliens is maybe _the_ best performance ever in an action movie. If not the best, well absolutely top5. Insanely charismatic performance. You can't dislike his performance.
Love this man met him & his wife at comic con both absolutely lovely people so much time for all the fans. Stay frosty !
He has a HUGE fan following and was in the best movies of all time... he did just fine
Awesome in The Divide
Please dont forget "The Rock". Way to little scene , but really god. My first encounter was "Navy SEALS" with Charlie Sheen.. And yes, absolutely loved him in Aliens...
I really enjoyed him in The Divide.
I'm so glad he's getting better he's a wonderful Actor 😊😊and he deserves all the happiness 😊😊 bless you Michael ❤ 🙏
I have always loved this man. Hes an awesome actor and a stunning man to look at. Stay strong Michael. Sending love. ❤❤❤❤
He had a small role in The Walking Dead (season 11, I think) and was very good. I also really liked him in a little movie called Silver Wolf. He plays a forest ranger and he and his nephew save a shot wolf.
If a Metal Gear movie was ever made....he wouldve crushed Snake's role.
He was also a main-charcter in Westwood Studios Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun, (also dressed in tactical armor lol).
I personally helped name my nephew Kyle Reece after Michael’s outstanding performance in the terminator
He was the perfect bad guy in Tombstone, probably my favorite film of his.
Totally underrated actor! Terminator would be my favorite!!
I think he is understated and under valued. I hope he does some more indy work.
I was more into Biehn's movies in the 90'S then almost any other action actor. Loved every single one from aliens to navy seals, but i think the his supporting role as ringo in tombstone was the one that cemented him into my brain forever.
he has his own podcast now, justfoolinabout, show him some support
Thanks! Glad to know ;)
I'd expected the reason for Biehn's career not going where I'd thought it would to be down to typecasting and maybe choosing roles poorly -- didn't know about his drinking.
He's nothing but a genuinely great actor and every roll I've seen him in has made me believe his story.......what more does he have to prove!
I think his character as Mikey in THE DIVIDE was some of his best acting.
If you haven't seen it you should.
Fabulous film ❤
Unfortunately the last 1/3 of that movie SUCKED. It just went off the rails and people making the most ludicrous of decisions.
@@Calc_Ulator stress can do that
My favorite with Michael Biehn is “The Fan” with Lauren Bacall.
