12:20 One question.... how is it that Weird AL of all people did a more faithful rendition of this song?
Ps. This is in no way meant to be an insult to the Grandmaster of The Accordion.
If you want to hear a great cover of "interstate love song" go check out relient k. They made an album of cover songs and this one was fantastic.
Funny thing about FIR's cover of Gangsta's Paradise, Coolio loved it so much that he appeared in the music video, yet he didn't like Weird Al's parody, Amish Paradise.
Who would choose FALLING IN REVERSE over Weird Al?
From someone who'd defend the cover but not the band, let me make it worse for you lot,. Coolio also performed it live with FIR
Dude, that's the tip of irony. Amish Paradise was Weird Al's affectionate spoof of Gangsta's Paradise, and to think the late Coolio would agree to like Falling in Reverse's cover felt very criminal. Even my sister, a fan of FIR admitted their cover of the rap classic was dogshit.
During weird Al's release Coolio was still on top and still had his image to worry about.
coolio later changed his mind about amish paradise and admitted he was in the wrong for hating weird al. they made amends.
@@waycnf7229 good to hear, but don’t know why it took him so long to
The problem with that Don't Fear the Reaper cover is that the original was this borderline psychedelic, mystifying, and hauntingly beautiful song. When you turn it into a stock pop-punk song with a heavily processed guitar and speed up tempo it loses all that.
Yeah, its one of the least flexible songs to cover, especially when compared to ABBA's music.
Only good cover of don't fear the reaper I've seen is from HIM
Blue Öyster Crap
@@xdninja04I liked the one by The Mutton Birds
@@xdninja04Candlemass did a solid cover of Don't Fear The Reaper as well.
I feel like a song that also could have been on this list is Issues’s cover of Boyfriend by Justin Bieber. Now Issues is a great band but hearing a group of grown men cover a song that was originally sung by someone who was still a teenager at the time while also adding the line “I am not your boyfriend cause you are underage. Call me in a couple years and we will fucking rage” at the end is just plain questionable and is now kinda sad and ironic knowing what we know now about the former frontman of the band
Ugh that cover was so bad lol. Issues in general gave me massive ick vibes. Never liked them even during my scene days
My personal favourite cover from these is Mayday Parade's version of Somebody That I Used to Know. So while I was a bit disappointed not to see it pop up on your best list, I'm more glad it's not on the worst list lol.
Imagine covering "Smooth" and then making sure it sounds as rough as possible.
TBH, I'll just stick with Weird Al's parody, "Amish Paradise".
I just listened Gangsta's Paradise by Falling In Reverse and when it was over i thought about their Papa Roach Cover and i came to the conclusion that everything Ronnie Radke touches turns into garbage.
His covers are truly wretched.
THANK YOU! Someone else who realizes this too. I commented on the video for Gangsta's Paradise how bad it was and had FiR fans all up in their feels about it.
@@mikedelvalle931FIR fans are truly one of the most toxic metal fanbases out there. Metal trenches reacted to watch the world burn and he didn’t like the lyrics. His entire comments section was full of people insulting him and also threatening him. So unfortunately, this is nothing new.
Thank you
Their papa roach cover wasn't that bad, but I agree with their gangstas paradise cover being garbage
Something tells me that they were blackmailed into adding these covers into the albums, since it’s been established that they know how to choose good bands to cover songs.
I think it's more they had a track count they wanted to hit, and it was too late in the game to turn a song down.
@@RockedNetseems about right.
But whoever approved the Gangsta’s Paradise by Falling In Reverse needs to be arrested.
@@awesomeplushproductions It got people talking about Ronnie, which is all he cares about. lol
@@NeverDieAloneMusicyou mean Ronald the Clown?
In Ronnie Radke’s case Gangsta’s Paradise sounds more like Gangsta’s Paradise without the “Paradise.”
Gangsta’s Hell
Gaysta's Parody
I consider the Attack Attack cover so bad it’s good
All I got to say is don’t mess with a Classic song from any Genre unless you gonna execute it well
That version of Everybody Wants to Rule the World might have pushed me over the edge.
Put Pierce the Veil's cover of Don't Fear the Reaper over the opening scene of the 90s miniseries of The Stand and it'll become less haunting and more comedic 😂
I'm so tempted to do this but I am very lazy.
HIM's cover of Don't Fear The Reaper is nice tho.
Funny story - So in middle school at the end of music classes, we always got to play songs on the projector for others. So this one time, my friend at the time wanted to surprise me since he knew I was sort of into heavier music. He on the other hand was really into rap and hip hop so... He put on the Gangsta's Paradise cover. And from time to time, he would just turn and look at me, probably hoping for some sort of a positive reaction. ...You can imagine how much I was holding back from cringing.
3DM Metalcore Frankenstein sounds like the name of an anime.
I mean, that FIR cover is fucking AWFUL. But it's also HILARIOUS!
Also, I love the idea of Katy-Core...
You know you've done goofed when a parody song like Amish Paradise sounds like it's an official cover compared too yours.
I knew one of the guitar players for white chapel and he told me they don’t get to pick the cover, the label does. Which is insane
I like to think as soon as they turned the cameras off, Coolio stood up and bitch-slapped Ronnie Radke for desicrating his song to his face
Love seeing that Days of the New record behind you. Such a great but often looked over band from the era
I'm pretty sure the FIR one was intentionally bad. Everyone was talking about it instantly, which is what Ronnie does best. It also was huge publicity for punk goes pop itself.
I like both Falling in Reverse and Coolio but despise that awful cover of Gangstas Paradise.
Like A Storm did a much better cover of Gangsta's Paradise, objectively speaking.
While this isn't a Pop Goes cover, there was also a haunting cover of Don't Fear the Reaper used for the game Vampyr. Not a great game, but the song is at least better than Pierce the Veil's version
I actually go to the same high school, and live in the area For All Those Sleeping graduated from. Kinda small town Minnesota, not much in terms of celebs or anything from the area, so it's kinda cool seeing them covered on a channel I really enjoy, even if it's in less than flattering light 😅
Say what you will about PTV's cover of don't fear the reaper, but it at least has a good amount of cowbell
There is never enough cowbell 🤣
@@stuartwalker9597I got a fever! And the only prescription, is more cowbell!
Needs more cow bell!!
I think that if Godsmack were to cover "The Promise" by Girls Aloud, it would sound like "Cryin' Like a B****", "Greed", and other songs in their discography with a repeated one-/two-note riff.
Godsmack sounds like Helmet if Helmet were garbage.
Which is saying something because much of Helmet's music is caveman as hell.
Along the same vein as FTSK covering You Belong With Me, Chris Roetter has gone on record for hating the LMTF cover of Some Nights
This was a fun video! Not sure if it's just me, but the font you used, made the text look blurry, especially on the white background?
i remember my sister randomly showing me the cover of gangstas paradise and i just... its just one thing i can never forgive because the hell was this?
Eh, I’ll still take these over anything Kidz Bop has done…
I concede to that (outside of Falling In Reverse).
True. Little things are worse than that
@@RockedNet I’m not convinced that wasn’t a Kidz Bop cover with how bad it was, and that’s coming from a guy who’s pretty indifferent to both the band & Radke.
Jimmy Eat World's cover of New Religion by Duran Duran is a great example of taking a song and making it your own. Still one of the best covers ever.
Jimmy Eat World are underrated
Duran Duran is one of my favorite bands and in my opinion, New Religion is one of their best and most interesting songs. Jimmy Eat World did an excellent job with that cover and it sounds totally different but retains the core paranoia in that song.
Coolio was pissed at Weird Al for just making a parody but JUMPED on the project with Radke. RIP Coolio but damn my dude should have looked at the bar when it came to the artist. (No dissrespect to Radke talent). Coolio got cool with Al afterwards but Al deserve a massive tip of hat for raising the respect bar. Amish Paradise. GOAT
Okay, story time. For my senior year of high school i joined choir, it was an overall positive experience. My choir teacher tells us about a concert where choir students pick songs to audition and sing and if you pass the audition, you're in the concert. I covered Interstate Love Song. When I got back the recording of my performance, a friend of mine just so happened to be around and listened and said "You sound like Corey Taylor singing Stone Temple Pilots." I can't unhear it now but the point is STP are hard to cover no matter which genre is covering them.
Good list. I understand why people don’t like the Memphis May Fire cover and Chunk! covers
Chunk! at least has their All Star cover to make up for it & Memphis May Fire has Grenade
In Fear and Faith’s cover of Gangsta’s Paradise is one of the best covers. Ever.
Didn't it also release around the same time the FiR cover did? Because if it did it only adds to the levels of terrible that cover had by giving a bar to compare against.
Oh oh. You're going after Ronnie again? He's definitely going to tell his dad on you. 😂😂😂😂
I totally agree with you on the 'tripping banger' line, ever since you first introduced me to that thing several cover videos back.
The "Gangsta's Paradise" cover is bad, but I think the self agrandizing, ego trip that is the reworking of "Last Resort" is truly, truly awful.
Every time I see or listen to Ronnie Radke 's gangstas paradise I always think of what u said when u first mentioned this song in a previous video "Somebody owes Weird Al an Apology"
Ok, as a child of the 80s, this Everybody Wants to Rule the World is HORRIBLE!!!!!
Ronald the Clown does not have a gangsta bone in his body. I'm not surprised this is #1.
Still can't believe that Gangsta's Paradise cover exists. However I use it as proof to show people how awful FIR and Ronald the Clown truly are. Too bad his fans are ignorant to his transphobia :/
Once again, I'm reminded that if the genre a given band plays ends with -core and it's less than a quarter of a century old, it's most probably shite.
Local H did a cover of Toxic by Brittany Spears. It's considerably better than the Katy Perry covers. Local H has done a few cover songs over the years that aren't bad at all.
was kind of surprised to see that Sleeping With Sirens cover of F*** U by Cee Lo Green didn't make the list
Dude that song is amazing, not a huge fan of sws but they killed it
To me, ETF's cover of "Smooth" is more of a guilty pleasure track.
I know people really love "Gangsta's Paradise" but I will maintain that it is at best a decent rap version/cover of "Past-time Paradise" by Steve Wonder, while I can respect writing your own lyrics to a peice I can't in good faith say it is your song when all the music is not written by you.
All that said: The FiR version is a disasterpiece.
I've still never heard a cover that I've loved more than Glass Cloud's rendition of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. I wish Glass Cloud could have put out just one more album before Josh Travis moved to Emmure. Look at Yourself was a rad album though. I still can't believe this guy saw it as the worst album of 2017 lol
Glass Cloud was very underrated and I wish they were still around. Because Josh Travis is wasted in Emmure and Look at Yourself proved that. Not sure if it was the worst album of 2017 but I understand why Luke put it at number one cause it was far from good like everything Emmure has done.
Ninja Sex Party did an INCREDIBLE cover of Don’t Fear The Reaper.
Thanks a lot. Now I can't get that Falling in Reverse snippet out of my head now.
Wow I never knew that cover of Gangsters Paradise existed. To answer your question about Ronnie, it's because he keeps playing the victim. Something that proves to be an effective tactic as the years go on.
I haven't even started the video yet and already, the thought of an STP cover being on this list in of itself has me cringing as much as I did when MGK thought he could cover Rage Against The Machine.
I think about Falling in Reverse's Gangsta's Paradise all the time (against my will), the last time being earlier today lol
I'll be honest, Chunk's Ke$ha cover is my favorite off the album
I have a few Punk Goes Pop covers and none made it onto the best OR worst lists.
My favorite of mine is the cover of "F*ck You" (originally by CeeLo Green)
"Fair Use does not matter to bots"
And as I just found out, bots don't care about public domain either.
I am a long time and unapologetic fan of Tears for Fears. I've enjoyed every piece they made, and I have loved some covers that have done amazing stuff with the material (Gary Jules' cover of Mad World was remarkable, every bit as good as the original while being dramatically different). So believe me when I say this cover of Everybody Wants to Rule the world is the most listless, anemic piece of BLEEP I've ever heard as a cover of a TfF song.
It's crazy how much Johnny Franck went from being someone that drew ire from purists quote frequently in the attack attack days to him being one of the most liked artists in the scene with his project Bilmuri. You could tell from day one that he was capable of more but the first two attack attack albums were fun. It's funny that Johnny leaving AA made them completely terrible moving forward.
Great video and list, hard to read font however
My favorite one was the you belong with me for all those sleeping cover taylor swift would never be that angry but they made the song sound so cool with the guitars
I partially disagree with the Don't Fear the Reaper one personally, as I like the track and I like the original, but I respect your opinion, you make several valid points. His vocal range was too high for the track.
This might be a hunch, I'm not sure what brought this traian of thought on...but I get the vibe that Ronnie Radke somehow believes himself to be a loc'd out gangsta set-tripping banger.
1st time I heard the fir Gangsters Paradise I swear I could have done a better version, I could have actually sound hard, and I swear the only reason my friend played it is because she had the hots for ronnie...
I love Ronnie but that cover is so bad..I waa trying to forget about it. Thanks for reminding me
While I agree with the STP and Blue Oyster Cult covers, I love the rest of these. A lot of them are fun to practice switching to and from cleans and harsh vocals. As well as letting me play versions I feel comfortable turning up.
I liked the Strung Out Ozzy cover, and the AFI G n R cover. I also still have the cds of the Before You Were Punk 80s new wave cover albums. I think that was the precursor to the Punk Goes series
I love your content but f*** you for making me aware that that Don't Fear the Reaper cover exists. I could have gone all my life not hearing that. Also, I generally like Falling in Reverse but their Gangsta's Paradise is one of the funniest things I have ever seen xD
I’m just glad I came across the cover of gangstas paradise by like a storm instead of falling in reverse.
That LAS cover was great. Heard them play it live on Shiprocked a few years back.
@@RockedNet exactly, that is an example of a rap song turned metalcore, and the cover of still fly is also excellent as well.
its crazy to see how much ronnie blew that cover considering how well he pulls off rap now. he really should revisit that and fix that mistake
Right about all of them except Interstate Love Song. I thought the uptempo industrial sound worked well on that one.
Ronnie Radke looks like a 12 year old created a punk rock avatar in a video game.
Eh, Hootie and the Blowfish did Interstate Love Song incredibly well.
You forgot Bayside’s cover of Beautiful Girls by Sean Kingston… love those guys but that’s probably the biggest misstep their career lol.
I kinda disagree with smooth. I thought the reworking of it was really well done. The guitar solo was a little rough but they probably didn't have much practice on it.
Everything sounds like a great idea when you're totally hammered at 2:00 in the morning!😂😂😂
11:50 “Woe is me is better than aping the emotions of a teenage girl” um sir are we you aware of the recent news?
the you belong with me cover is actually one of my fav songs
i guess you could say Fearless Records was pretty fearless when picking some of these songs. holy shit some of these are bad
I about died at "Ronald the clown". 😂 Great video as always dude!
When i read much of the cover felt sped up and rushed for dont feel the reaper, i felt that way about Memphis may fires version of interstate love song
I agree with this list for the most part.... but the cover of Love Story is such a fun song to listen to... You did hit the nail right on the head with Falling in Reverse's cover, it is terrible!
I also agreed with everything on this list except love story. It's goofy. Everything Ronnie touches is terrible, especially when he uses that weird accent 😅
The band our last night puts out some extremely abhorrent covers almost weekly
ISMFOF's cover of Crank That (Soulja Boy) is arguably even worse than the Gangsta's Paradise, but ISMFOF is a joke band anyway.
I'd rather hear Ghost do "Don't Fear The Reaper" than Pierce The Veil. Observe Anthony Vincent's video "10 Songs In The Style of Ghost" for an example. Also, Attack Attack! and Memphis May Fire (I'll probably get flak for this, but whatever) suck and JaimesonParker deserve to have their acoustic guitars wrapped around their heads for that abomination of a Tears For Fears cover.
Right after you made that comment about disrespecting the classics the old man Downy ad came up
I have no idea why coolio is okay with the FIR cover, but not the weird al cover
HEY HEY WHOA WHOA WHOAAAA CHUNK? NO, CAPTAIN CHUNK!’S COVER IS FIRE AS FUCK
And Coolio thought Weird Al was disrespectful back in the day 😅
did you ever hear the cover of Holding Out for a Hero by Emery?
Honestly approve of this list. I unashamedly like the cover of Smooth, but the rest of them are ones I’ve never gone back to.
Has the singer from Attack Attack actually kissed a girl?
😂😂😂😂
I'm surprisingly of the opposite opinion on the PTV cover, I loved it as much as the original.
See, that's how I feel about Sleeping With Sirens covering Cee Lo Green's "Fuck You". The whole thing was...confusing. Of all the bands to cover a Motown-style soul song...why Sleeping With Sirens??? Kellin's voice does not match that style *at all*. I seriously felt like I got hit with "Confuse".
Try not to laugh or cringe challenge: just 13:50 on a loop.
What really sucks about FIR’s Gangster’s paradise cover is that one exists in the style of Doom by Geoffplaysguitar, and it was LEAGUES better than what Ronnie Radke did. Granted It doesn’t have vocals, but it shows that a heavier Gangsta’s Paradise isn’t impossible.
In Fear and Faith also did a cover of it.
Oh, that's not the only punk cover of "Interstate Love Song". Relient K did it as well (along with a ton of other covers of varying genres).
...and one of those other covers was one of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". Imagine that.
I did like that cover of theirs, to be honest.
Hootie And The Blowfish’s Cover Of Interstate Love Song Is On Par With The Original A MUST HEAR
I don’t know what punk is anymore but this generation of punk is nothing I would have heard and called it punk. It’s like they heard punk music and didn’t listen to the words. They heard an angry asthetic and duplicated it superficially. It’s basically pop metal.
So glad i didnt see Just Dance by The Suit doing Lady Gaga on this list.
