Nice fish nice video good news for me is that I FINALLY got my ole SouthFork back into de fishing/hunting game-bad news is that the local and not-so-local marshes pretty much devoid of ducks.Buddy of mine gave me solid report of fine specks at Causeway and I saw a fine Skeeter in one of my favorite local spots and the 3 amigos in the boat were catching fine and fat specks using live shrimp!!Hope this nice cold front shoved down a few ducks, intend to check out a few spots and hope to shoot a few decent ducks. All I have gotten so far is two coots and a buddy shot a fine drake blue wing this past Sat,neither of us fired a SHOT this past Sunday!!
One thing I get a lot that you don't is schooling reds moving in and out of the sloughs from the bay to the back lakes, and then back out. They work the edge of the grass pushing the bait to the surface. About 1/2 the time, shore birds and/or seagulls will be working over them. Their backs are out of the water and the bait is jumping out of the water, trying to get away. Usually there is about10 in a school. It's an easy sight cast. You can see them coming from a long way away. They are on the move, so you don't have to wait long for them to come into casting range. I guess it's because my sloughs are 1-2 ft deep and yours are much deeper. I ran into 4 schools yesterday. Are you gonna make it down to the Laguna Madre this year?
So as a resident of your neighboring state to the east, you can’t imagine the frustration since our trout have to be 15”. I bet I’ve caught over 100 in the past 3 weeks that measure about 14 3/4”. Infuriating!
Yeah, when I get frustrated by it, I remind myself that without the size minimum, I likely never would have caught that fish to begin with since it would have been harvested.
@@Xx233xX we keep very few female trout. We keep the males 15” and above. Also release them 20” and above! Our bag limit is 15 fish, 15” and above ,but only keep what we will eat being 5 fish per person ,being a total of 10 nice specks between my buddy and I… I know a lot of fishermen that will keep their limit of 15 and freeze them due to not being able to fish as much as I do… 🕷️
Hey Tod, whatever happened to the Pro’s Choice line of “Senko type” straight worms? I got 2 of their 50-packs back when you were using them but haven’t found a website for them again.
@ we had a Texas plastic manufacturer whose plant burned down in the Houston area years ago. I still have three partial bags of their really cool stickbaits and lament their demise. I wonder if anyone redid or salvaged their molds. They were doing weedless slotted baits long before everyone else was.
I don't know. The high water had been caused by weeks of SE wind, which blew in salty Gulf water. Salinities have been way up, including in the areas I'm catching these fish. All the rain we got yesterday, along with NW wind the next few days, should lower salinities some. We'll see.
@ right right… good point on the salinity. I know after high water events like hurricane , I see more bluegill and other freshwater fish near lake Catherine, I always assumed they got washed out the pearl
The marshes are full of fish right now, and this front should only solidify that. Lake Pontchartrain will likely be a mess for a few days after all this NW wind. Good luck!
I'm new to inshore, when it gets cold trout push into the marsh systems? I live in Texas and fish the Galveston area I'm assuming the fish act the same? I have fished lake Calcasieu in your neck of the woods but only in the summer, keep the great content coming!
We haven’t experienced a cold front here in Louisiana yet as of November 20th! Which is crazy. As for the trout, they are in the marsh for the shrimp. In the deep winter (like January February), all the shrimp are done migrating. In winter they feed on fin fish. They move into deep water. By deep I mean 12 feet or more.
I’m curious what has happened to your bass population? When I first started watching your videos , it seemed like you were catching quite a lot of bass. And the fishing area waters seemed similar, grassy banks , channeled bayous etc.
The mississippi river has been low the last 3 years. When the fresh water left, so did most the grass and bass. There's more speckled trout now though.
As I mention in the video, last year's drought decimated the marsh bass population. Bass can handle 5 ppt of salinity for brief periods of time, but last summer, salinity was 20+ ppt for weeks. They just can't survive in those conditions. Without a doubt, the fish will spring back when conditions are more favorable.
“Oh man I’ve gotta stop talking with my hands… “ and continues to talk with hands lol
been waiting all week for your next vidoe thx!!
Have a nice fishing day. Lucky!

Nice fishing - windy days are hard and you made it look less than hard. I noticed some new reels - are you moving away from the Okuma?
No, that's the Okuma X-Series. I got two of them.
I bet that glass blast with a chartues tail would be money
Do you use a fluorocarbon leader or just low vis line? Can’t see a liter in the video
I've been using 17-pound Matrix mono. I start with about a 4-foot leader that shrinks over time as I cut and tie new baits.
@ appreciate the reply . Love the videos

Awesome. thanks.
What pound test braid AND pound test leader material ….???
Does the ATV come in different depths. If so which one do you use. Love your videos. Can’t wait for Wednesdays.
Yes, I'm using the 1.0. I also like the 1.5 for a little bit deeper water.

Gotta know where to find the 15 plus specks brother here in Mississippi!!!
Ha

Idk why you’d wanna keep a 15” trout anyways taking a fish a soon as it’s legal insures the fishery doesn’t develop lol
@ well, the point of my post was in line with Todd talking about how many 12 inch trout he was catching!

The company went belly up.

Try the green goblin voodoo shrimp under a popping cork
I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m shocked you haven’t run into duck hunters going back there during dock season.
Todd do you think the bass are back because of the high water we have been experiencing? Maybe washing them out of the fresher areas?

Hey I’m new to fishing inshore for specs I’m going fishing This weekend and thinking about going lake P or should I go into the marsh.
And where is the best place to buy lures I usually go academy but maybe they got something better

When the pin fish show up in large numbers, the trout are nearby… from what I’ve seen anyways
Yeah, I totally agree. But cold weather this week will likely drive the pinfish out of the marsh.
