      It is very easy to look at drummers like Thomas Lang, Dave Weckl, Buddy Rich, etc. and be discouraged. Some people are born prodigies. From musicians to mathematicians. The key is to keep practicing, Although, because of gifting there are so many musicians that will never achieve their level of perfection.

      @@IvanHuntDrum You just have to go slow. That's how you get good at anything that may seem daunting. Not discrediting anything here, just pointing that out. I have some Thomas Lang-ish videos on my channel, maybe they'll help out. :)

      Yeah, that's what happen when you are extremely talented, intelligent and fully dedicated to music your whole life. There are only very few musicians in the world on this level.
      I still feel sad that Dream Theater didn't pick him (because it is my most favourite band, except the last three albums), but I am not really sure if he would be happy in that band. According to what Thomas plays he likes a little bit different genre.

      @@JirkaMichalik DT definitely would not have been a good fit for him. A man of this caliber should never be constrained to a limiting project like DT. Mangini, on the other hand, is a perfect fit for DT because of his personality and attitude.

      I’d say Mike was the only one that could play with them well enough and even wanted to be in DT. Thomas didn’t even want to be there but he just felt bad for Portnoy and auditioned to cushion portnoy’s concerns if DT would fail without him

    I am moved to hear and see him; very young, he was the drummer of the austrian (like him) singer Falco dead in 1998😎. I see regurarly on You Tube the gig of the Donauinselfest of Vienna (June 1993), a legendary moment. We see the happiness of Thomas Lang and Falco in front of the crowd. The last big concert of Falco...😪💜🙋‍♀️🇲🇫

    My favourite drummer. His mastery of the drums is well beyond amazing. Why is Thomas Lang never in the lists of the world's best drummers. He should be in the top 5 of any list .

      @@robster4ever if you have seen him live as I have and to see him separate different time signatures between all 4 limbs then you know what I am talking about NOONE can do it like virgil, to play 2 different time signatures on 2 sides of the body at the same time and then swap them over to the other side of the body and then bring them together is almost impossible for anyone else and to have him explain it and to have the sheet music infront of you and try and understand it is mind boggling difficult, yet he pulls it off like he isn't even trying

      I would say Marco Tecza is close! He's working on some incredible control, with dynamic accents in 32nd rolls, double kick flams, collapsed rudiments, the likes. Really pushing the bar on triggerless, LOW SPRING TENSION, clean foot work

    Who the hell applies dynamics to bass drums like this?!
    Being a viruoso is one thing, but being supremely musical is a whole other thing.
    Lang is a master of making super complex drums easy to listen to and extremely catchy.

    Idk, I've been hesitant for the longest time, in having a favorite drummer...with so many greats out there, old and new, but god damn, if I wouldn't name you as my current favorite. Jesus, nothing of what you do is simple, but that shit you are doing with your left foot, takes some extreme coordination. Love watching these vids pop up in my feed. Top notch playing. Thank you.

    Druminator - Thomas has been sent back through time from the future with a mission - through creating awesome, yet demotivational videos, make all humans give up drumming. I don't have any other explanation for how it is humanly possible to play such a complex groove so consistently. And that drum solo part at 4:26....damn. :)

(I dislike that both of them lack the PASSION / WILDNESS I want in my drummers. TL has the chops of a Billy Cobham, but NOT THE FIRE>)

And about what you said, in your logic then we can say even Travis Barker is great etc... Yes he fits his band. But for comparison sake, the only thing we can compare is technique. Taste is not comparable. Then, Thomas Lang imo is top one.
