This cuts the current satire "The Royals" a million ways to Sunday. I've watched the whole thing countless times and am delighted to find it again. Terrific acting, subtle satire. Brilliant and hilarious.
a superb british royal family, specially the king richard's role very wvedell played all others too did very well.well done to the whole team. i loved every moment of the series.
Crazy to think the actress who plays Princess Eleanor actually marries into the royal family!! She’s married to Lord Fredrick Windsor, who is the son of Prince Michael of Kent!
I love this show, it's ridiculous. If the monarchy was actually like this then i'd probably bloody like them more x Proud to be English despite every one of its flaws x

Well you know it is a very strong cast full of folks who have had loads of experience on stage tv and film...the issues might be in the writing...idk yet but willing to give it a chance cause there are so many actors in it that I like a lot.
I very....much enjoyed the segment of Queen Victoria...Buckingham Palace Restoations ...The time of song...and ..The Balcony Pictures....Always to look up to...England...
Came to the comments to find out if this was any good .. As in just a good watch? or good new programme ? .. Gonna need to watch it to find out I guess lol
this fascination we have for a figurehead institution, all pomp and circumstance, blown all out of proportion, except for the tourists who come to bathe in the spectacle. Makes the rest of the crowned heads of Europe happy the constant spotlight isn't on them, and they can go on with the business of being head of state without too much interference.
you know, if you head into watching this with the knowledge that it's going to be very unrealistic, and it's just a bit of fun, it's much more enjoyable! if you try to think of it as them saying this is how it really is, you'll hate it. if you see it as poking fun and playing around, it's much better.
+sprinklefriend This "parallel universe" idea is very weak compared with the novel "The Queen and I" where the UK becomes a republic and the Royal Family has to live in Council flats. The novel is hilarious, this, not so much.
sprinklefriend I read your comment before watching it and I did see it as poking fun and was much more enjoyable like you said! If I seen it like a real show something like BBC’s Victoria I think it would’ve really annoyed me. It was only 2 seasons tho. I really wanted more to see how it would go. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for sharing - However, I find it hard to believe that a Price would be so surprised to become the new King. He would've been groomed since birth that this was his destiny and while maybe he'd be 'set back' by the death of his father it's not as though he shouldn't have expected it. Maybe the next episode will improve but so far this is crap.
as to the point about the prince's reaction to the news that he has inherited the throne - perhaps he had imagined he would take on the role in 40 years time.
@Kathleen Flacy I don't think that law of succession was in action at the time. At the time that this was first shot, the succession law was probably male-preference primogeniture.
In the late 1940s-early 1950s, whenever the then Princess Elizabeth traveled abroad (outside the United Kingdom) she was well-aware of her father's ill health and though it might have seemed calculated to a non-royal person, always packed a suitcase full of black mourning clothes. This included her trip to South Africa with Prince Philip, where they were staying at Treetops Hotel and observing the wild animals, when they received news of the death of the king. Though "The Palace" is fictional, Richard's father is regarded as being in good physical condition and expected to live for at least 20 years more. The present Queen was born in 1926 and her heir apparent, Prince Charles was born in 1948, and is now nearly 20 years older than Edward the Seventh was when he inherited the throne in 1901 after HIS mother's reign of 63 years. The fictional Richard is only in his early 20s and very immature, not to mention unprepared for the rigors of constitutional monarchy.
I have to agree with Mark Pitt and a few others. I started this and got about ten minutes in. I thought I'm just tired, I'll come back to it. I came back to it. It may not be the acting, it's not believable.
All I can think about is what set designer would put the King's Crown on the pillow on his coffin not centered properly. Sorry folks but I hate things not centered properly. LOL
OMG I can't quit watching this, there's gotta be some creepy subliminal shit going on because I want to quit but I cant!!!! Its so bad its kinda good. Kinda.
What is the track playing at the very beginning of the credits minute 5:01 ?? I just have been using the fl studio for a long time and I want to try to remix it
Rather, it's so unbelievably engaging -- though perhaps you are talking in opposites. It's adorably funny and irreverent, reminiscent of the wonderful House of Cards . . . even the brass intro alludes. Thanks very much indeed, having a great time with this fantasy send-up.
Love the "subtle" way they had the younger waste of space prince (the Duke of York) suggesting a trip to Scotland to play golf. For authenticity the trip should be made in a RAF helicopter at the taxpayer's expense.
The scene at 18:08 is like a game of 'how much British iconography can we cram into one 30 second dialogue?' Chavs drinking GIN for fucks sake! What 'do' with the cricket team? I am absolutely hooked on this now.
What horrible people and system; if I were a part of a Royal Family in this kind of situation and couldn’t change it, I’d happily give-up My right to the throne - and get as far away from all of it, as possible. Argh; it’s just so frustrating that Human greed, arrogance, ambition, egotism, narcissism, competitiveness, selfishness (…) mess up any/every System of Government possible - given time. …I feel as though - in This World, and with Humans as we are - there is no good-solution.

Hi
Crazy to think the actress who plays Princess Eleanor actually marries into the royal family!! She’s married to Lord Fredrick Windsor, who is the son of Prince Michael of Kent!
and also she is a Queen. Long live Queen Susan! 😊
Was she there cousin 😢😮
Their cousin? Or was there a cousin? Huh?@@jasanders5877
That DOES surprise Me!
…I wonder how it came about?
He, sadly, a recent suicide.
This is one of my favorite shows ever & I'm amazed it wasn't renewed.
Panned by the critics and very low veiwing figures
I'm not... I'm 10 minutes into it and think it's ansult. & I don't even like the royal family and come from Windsor and left England 23 years ago!
I mean insult... My phone is more stupid than this series!!
I'm amazed it was ever produced!
Its garbage
Don't know how I came across this hysterical little gem but I'm happy I did!! Needed a good laugh...😂🤣😂 #bonkinghampalace 🤣🤣🤣Cheers...❤🇺🇸❤🇬🇧❤
So unreal. With a king's funeral, the palace will be a bee hive 24/7. No room for kisses
I don't understand the bad comments! This is a good, entertaining series! The actors did a good job!
Its just the british people ranting cause its not accurate like irl.. haha

I'm with u, this had promise but instead it gets cancelled while shit like big brother, love island n x-factor continue.
Is it worth watching it?

Hello
Absolutely amazing, love it all and said without bad language , malice or jealousy. Our huge history is the best in the world. A
yes it is good drama and cleverly written, not Game Of Thrones but then not just Upstairs Downstairs either more a bit of both but very watchable.

"Yes, ma'am, and while I can appreciate the lure..."
ONLY four hours?! Poor dears.
That's only the FIRST act, my dear! But no worries, there IS always an intermission! 😊@@2krandolph
Very beautifully series the storyline is amazing
That theme was so Dynasty, Dallas, Knots Landing, and Falcon Crest rolled into one.
Worse
After 9 years am watching it for the first time
The new king could pass for Brad Pitt's brother.
Just cuter than Mr Pit 😊
Your series is a great

It's like Dallas at The Mall in London. Definitely "unclassy"

What is it?
Yes it is in classy band rather idiotic

don't think he was surprised, it's more overwhelmed and grief all at the same time, i don't think he left that evening expecting his dad to die

Ugh, this is one of those 'how did I end up in this part of the internet' moments. American tripe. And that's generous.
American tripe? You know this is a British show, right? It was an ITV program, not produced by any US network.

What Did She Wear In That. A White Blouse And Black Blazer.
The dark gentleman hovering around the Royals and the young ladies should be promoted to some other show, maybe a police drama, eh?
2:12 I know her from Sarah Jane smith. it's her innit ???
No. Sarah Jane was played by the late Elisabeth Sladen. The Queen here is played by Jane Asher.
Fuckin hysterical, watch if you can, satire at it’s best

Interesting to see Jane Asher 40+ years after she inspired Paul MacCartney to write all those songs about their relationship.
