I lived on Oahu for 40 years. I saw a green flash, but only once. We were at the banyan beach bar of the Moana Surfrider. It was AMAZING! Many people saw it, and a collective gasp went up. It was FAST! Enjoyed this video. Familiar stuff!
I live across the street from the Byodo-In Temple so I’m happy you added it in. I feel I’olani Palace should have been added in, also Polynesian Cultural Center is another great place to learn culture with lots of fun activities. Since I was born in Nu’uanu I was surprised you didn’t suggest Pali Look-Out for those that might not be able to do those hikes. I do appreciate you educating visitors about leaving the harmful chemicals at home!
My husband and I just came back from Oahu(Waikiki), but before going there I like to investigate what is there to do and I came across your beautiful very informative videos and they were so helpful. We had a lot of fun we just want to go back. Thanks 🙏
I live in Oahu and I love your list! One top thing I would add is the Iolani Palace. Pearl Harbor is a great way to get the US history, but the Iolani Palace is super important and cool to be able to learn about Hawaiian history.
This was more about hiking than anything. I love the Diamond Head hike. There are also some great things to do such as Kualoa Ranch, seeing some gorgeous scenery on horseback, even some wild pigs running around. I love Bishop Museum & Iolani Palace. There's some great history there! Anyone who goes to Sunset Beach Park to surf at Mokapu (Banzai Pipeline) needs to take the undertow current VERY SERIOUSLY. There have been many tourists and locals who drowned when they were pulled in by the tide. It happens so fast and is so strong it's surreal in a bad way.
Please don’t tell people to go on “ illegal hikes or trails” . We have had too many deaths and severe injuries from people going on these hikes. The State is even talking about charging people for the costs of search and rescue. Hawaiian’s are getting tired of taking all our resources to save people who refuse to follow rules! These places are closed or restricted for a reason! Please respect the aina and the people of Hawaii.
I need a vacation as soon as school is out. In Oahu I will be relaxed enough to start my online business. Point out the best place for me to stay-cation in Oahu!
Wish my family out here wanted to do stuff like this. They’ve been in Oahu their whole lives, and just sit around the house all the time. Don’t even go to the beach!? Recently moved from SD. Gonna have to go do all these things by myself 🤷♂️
Go for it if I would have waited on my family to travel the world and do anything, I wouldn't have saw as much in this world as I did. So I say to you go for it!
Greetings from Cambodia. Thanks for your video. Hawai'i was my home for nine years so your pronunciation makes me smile, but your video is interesting and informative. Nice. I appreciate the memories of home Hawai'i.
Wonderful video. You sure are brave to do some of those trails. Diamond Head is more my speed. Interesting that some people take time to criticize your pronunciation. I thought you said Koko head perfectly. (A little tourist humour). Now for my very minor critique. I don't know if you realized it but at 12:38 you say, " You can see Diamond Head and lots of east and west Maui." Oops, wrong island. Aloha
There are a few independent car rental companies that i’ve learned about. luckyowl.com I’ve never used them but I will be trying to on my next visit. Good luck!
With Covid they sold off a lot of their cars. The whole Aloha Stadium was filled with unrented rental cars. Now the demand is back and the supply is not. That’s why it’s so expensive now. You could try Turo, but also the city bus system is pretty good from what I hear. I’ve never used it tho.
Thanks for the great video and tips. Do you have a specific catamaran sailing company that you like? We're going next month to Oahu and looking for a sunset sail.
Just found the channel and this video, thanks for sharing! Since you've done your fair share of hikes on oahu, wondering which ones you recommend for hiking with a 2.5 year old :)
I live in Kuliouou! I've done the hike a handful of times. Definitely worth the view at the top. As someone born and raised on Oahu, it's interesting to see what people think of the island.
I went to Honolulu, this passed February 2021 and I loved it..i did not like Giovanni's food. It had no flavor. Very expensive though.I preferred Onawa Restaurant..flavor was 100% better
I don’t like seafood, but I can at least tolerate being around it. But not Giovanni’s. I kept gagging and nearly threw up when I was near it. We love Surf & Salsa, Kua’aina Sandwich Shop, Haleiwa Joe’s Haiku, Beach House by 604, Sakura Japanese Hibachi, Aloha Salads…
This may be too difficult for you but use your imagination. Close your eyes and imagine driving North while on the East side of an island. Just like anywhere in North America, if you are in the correct lane driving North and the ocean is to the East then your car is closer to the ocean because we drive on the right. You're welcome.

Hello...again, love your video...but Lanikai, not Lanika'i. Kai pronounced with one syllable. I have been emailing your videos to my cousin in WA, encouraging him to come and visit!
Hi Im planning to visit Oahu this summer. Do you have food recommendations? Also when you say to go counterclockwise to northshore do you mean from Waikiki to kailua area then to the Kuoloa ranch etc
yes, that is the scenic route to northshore because the road is literally right next to the water. You can also stop by the macedamia nut farm along the way near Kaaawa/ Laie.
Yup but be ready. Kailua is my hometown and it's no longer what it used to be. Still a beautiful little beach town. And if you drive around the Lanikai loop. You can see all the big mansions. There's the waiahole poi factory on the way to the north shore just after leaving kaneohe.
Sort of you need a permit from the FAA and the list of places to not film are schools (parents would not want their children on film), Federal Airspace (military bases that includes Pearl Harbor and Camp Smith and the Airports), any place that is scared to Hawaiians such as Graveyards/Palace/Heiaus/etc...
Great suggestions! My first trip to Oahu will be this may but I can find parking spot at Lanikai Pillbox during my research online. Would you recommend me any parking spot? Thanks in advance!
We are planning a trip for next year to Maui and Oahu... I've been watching all your videos. This might be my favorite so far. I can't wait for the food one though! lol One of my top bucket list things is a whale watching boat ride. Preferably a smaller catamaran. I've always expected to do it in Maui. But which island do you think is better? Also where would you rank the Diamond Head hike on a level of difficulty? I am a very large girl but fairly active and I've seen lots of mixed reviews.
Thanks for watching 😀 I prefer Maui for a whale watching trip. I always recommend Diamond Head as a great intro hike for Oahu and I think you’d be fine hiking it. Maybe go in the morning to beat the crowds and the heat 🤙
