The cuts are not the games fault, it’s whoever uploaded the footage of the cutscenes. They didn’t include gameplay which includes more dialogue which adds context to the cutscenes
Can’t wait for you to do RDR2. Your technical perspective in regards to the camera work and lighting etc is very interesting. I think it will blow you away
Yeah, the reason why De Santa and the Mexican government betray Marston is because they found out that he was helping the rebels and basically playing both sides of the Mexican factions.
I know the focus is just on cut scenes but they didn’t include some of the important conversations with John and jack when they were travelling, such as when jack was talking about life when he was younger in the gang on the way back from the bear mission. Would have been good to have included those for context so he understood Jack a bit more and how much he was affected by his upbringing.
1:41:08 This moment is probably something you didn't get the full context for in this video. When the player makes John skin an animal, we get a 4 second cutscene from that angle of the animal being skinned. This is the same angle, and is played much slower and in a more emotional tone.
I have to say there's quite a bit missing from the story and character development, because characters also talk a lot during missions, while traveling, etc. So it is definitely deeper than just these cutscenes
You really need to choose better gameplay and cinematic playthroughs. He missed both the ride through Mexico when you first enter and the ride back home after Dutch's suicide.
Part of leaving those out could have possibly been copyright because of the songs they used? I'm not sure they wrote original songs for RDR1 like they did RDR2.
@@yetibeardson1168 can always record his reaction, choose to either filter the music out or cut it out and then give us his reaction to the scene so we get what we came for. I specifically clicked on this video for those two scenes as they are so unique to the red dead universe.
@andrejissitt1635 Without the music those scenes are just John riding a horse for awhile. The impact would have been thoroughly lost on someone who has never played the games before.
I'm disappointed he killed Javier because you missed out on some extra exposition. Yeah the game actually gives you the option of either killing him or handing him over to the authorities.
The ending is the final tragedy: Jack becomes a gunslinger, exactly the life John worked so hard to spare him. (BTW, John's grave is at the "nice spot" the Strange Man commented on at their last meeting)
1:27:10 Wish they showed him riding back home. Its looks really cool and that song is really good too. Fits good with what happened/everything leading up to that point.
Fun Red Dead fact the voice actor for Dutch accidentally lied to his Nephew about working on rdr2 as he thought it would not be called red dead redemption 2 as every other game in the series had a different name not numbered sequels so he thought that the project name was going to be the games name and when the game was revealed he said his nephew had the most disappointed look towards him. This was all revealed in an interview.
1:53:49 Yeah, just like the book he was reading earlier. John asks him, what you reading and he says, it's about a boy seeking revenge against a man who killed his father. And John says I'm glad you like it.
It’s a shame how much that goes missing from the gameplay, feel of the world, and in-game dialogue in these cutscene only videos. The guy that made this could at least have kept some of the big gameplay moments(catching Javier, Riding home to Jack and Abigail, Grizzle encounter, the army rolling in on John’s farm) Like Kai didnt know WHAT was going on, guess they took Cutscenes Only very seriously. Hope u will play both 1 and 2 by yourself one day. The music sequences are absolutely beautiful, the soundtrack in both 1 and 2 are still in my rotation. Of course u still get the overall incredible story w these which is nice, but the worlds that have been built in these games breathe a whole new life into everyhitng that goes on. Excited to see u either react to or play rdr2😌🪄
Not a requirement, but RDR1 had a DLC called Undead Nightmare, basically a "What-if" story of RDR1 with zombies. Would love to see you react to the eccentrics of that.
A little note about this gameplay is that you can spare Javier and bill (I haven't made it through the whole video yet so idk if he spared bill) but you're missing out on some good dialogue because he cut out those scenes and killed them
1:56:55 Archer actually really liked John dispite seeing life differently. That's when the Bureau sends an entire platoon to kill John, he's not there because he wanted no part of that. He was a man of his word. Ross on the other hand is a trecherous scumbag, they nailed the writing with him cause everyone hates his guts. In RDR2 there's also a certain character so dislikeable that it's actually brilliant.
About the lighting in rdr2, there are only a few scenes that have a specific time of day, every other mission and cutscenes happens in the in game time you play them, but the lighting was made so it always looks great in cutscenes and in gameplay no matter the time
34:50 I recently played the game, and when the cutscene ends, you are right there with him still on the ground and you can decide if you shoot him or not. Guess that doesn't count as cutscene, which is why it was cut. But you do get to kill him
Every character sacrifices so much for the sake of Jack living a better life, and not ending up an outlaw. In spite of all that effort, Jack, like his father, kills another man by the age of 17.
Fun fact I first finished this and second one I couldn't bring my self to play them again for 2 months after that's how hard these endings hit me . I have 3000 hours across both games they are masterpieces.
make sure to PLAY the second game, its way better, and theirs so much character, and world building in it outside of the cut-scenes. (Like helping radom people in side mssions, or just the conversation that happens when riding with someone)
Also Rockstar is genius in foreshadowing part of their stories. "The day John Marston stopped shooting" the day that Jack said that, was the same day it actually happened
Really hope to see you play these games one day. So much is missing from these videos you watch in terms of story. So much important dialogue between characters. Hits so much harder.
The music of Red Dead is almost an art on its own. When riding, you'll get very dark sounding guitar riffs periodically played as you gallop along, with no real song playing but instead, "stings", small clips of music that play for a couple seconds at a time to put together an ambience. In Mexico, this guitar is replaced by spanish trumpets and more traditionally mexican instruments. When in a gunfight (gameplay) however, thats when the tunes start bumpin, usually in the same tempo as a horse's gallop as to sync when riding. god. love this game so much. my favorite theme it tries to push is essentially, john killing all these people wreaking all this havoc in an attempt to somehow redeem himself and save himself from the law, it just tells you so much about what his fate will ultimately be whether we like it or not and yes... red dead 2 is all about the "old days" john talks about during this whole game c:
34:48 you do see De Santa die, but you shoot him in-game not in a cutscene 43:43 😭 the horses Also this player killed Javier but you can arrest him alive.
I never put much thought into John and Jack's relationship. In this game you can see its a bit strained. Jack and John have a rocky relationship but I like that you can see John trying to be a better father to Jack. In RDR 2 you learn John wasn't always there for Jack and Abigale and they do touch on it in this game. He wasn't always a good father or a good husband but you notice how he acts in this game and it makes you realize how much John changed to be a better husband and father. He struggles with it because of his past with Dutch and being in a gang but he tries. And I never paid attention to him struggling to kill Dutch despite having multiple opportunities to do so. He still sees Dutch as a father since Dutch was the man who raised him. He struggles being a father to Jack because he doesn't know how to be a good father. Its really sad honestly. John just doesn't know any better but he tries his best and he is happy to see Jack not turning out like himself. When you watch RDR 2's cutscenes you will really understand John and his old friends on a different level. I just noticed the foreshadowing with Jack talking about "The day John Marston stops shooting" If only they knew that day was the day he would stop shooting. Gosh and I just realized how sad John and Abigale's last words to each other were. Both knew John wasn't going to make it out alive. You can hear it in Abigale's voice that she knew this was the last time she was going to see her husband alive. Jack at the end is 19 which is why he sounds young. He was 16 in the rest of the game. Funny thing with the son hunting the father's killer plot. I believe that is the plot to the predecessor game Red Dead Revolver set in 1880 is about a bounty hunter hunting down the people who murdered his family similar to how Jack hunted down Ross. I wonder if he was reading about the protagonist from that game in his book.
Man it was so cool to see your reaction to this goated game from my childhood back in the 360 era, looking forward to seeing you watch RDR2, I'd recommend watching the high honour version of the campaign cutscenes as it's a more satisfying viewing experience imo
You dont see it in the edits but there are 2 moments in game where songs with vocals and lyrics play and its when you enter Mexico and after Dutch falls off the cliff and i think the music is supposed to represent a pause and a moment for John to reflect on his current journey as he rides across the country to get his family back. Because cutscenes are silent, those 2 moments with music become way more impactful. I think it was intentional. its amazing seeing games taken more seriously over the years where you got not just gamers but filmmakers such as yourself and others sorts of people appreciating them whereas initially it was just seen as a waste of time. Red dead 2 is much more grand. they went all out on the cinematography in that one. I'm sure you'll appreciate it if you check it out.
You will absolutely love Red dead 2! But I think it's important to choose the right video to react to. There are some amazing moments that may get cut out since it's not in a cutscene.
Can't wait for you to react to RDR2. It's cinematically and story wise 10x better. One of the best games of the decade and one of my favorites. Don't wanna spoil anything so not gonna say anything. Best to go blind into it.
Rdr2 is the same in the fact that depending on the time you start the mission, there is different lighting. Even so the lighting in rdr2 is always realistic. Some missions will transition the time forward by a day if a mission must happen at a certain time of day, for example missions with stealth that take place at night. However the starting cutscene of the mission usually takes place at whatever time you started the mission and then it organically shows the characters resting or doing something to pass the time.
Now very important, when you do rdr2, you gotta either watch a fuöö playthrough, or PREFERRABLY play it fully yourself, because the level of the story just doesn't translate into just the cutscenes. I'm sure everyone else will tell you the same.
I was hospitalized for a few days and there wasn't that many options of things to watch on TV. At some point I was watching one of the Mission: Impossibile movies and I remembered you the moment I saw Simon Pegg. I always thought you looked familiar, now I know why.
You can react to RD2 if you want, but just know that nothing beats playing that game how it was intended and exploring the open world. I know a playthrough would take ages but I think you would appreciate it so much more just wanted to let you know 😭🙏🙏
I’m not impressed with the person who put together the original video, the Red Dead Redemption games are well known for having key exposition and details happen during the gameplay and not just cutscenes. Do you already know whose cut of RDR2 you will be watching? I highly recommend Gamers Little Playground's version from this year. But it is 20 hours so it might be a bit too long, but even if it will take a long time to finish, it definitely gives the best context.
1:01:01 well considering that at the time they didn't consider cocaine to be harmfull wich is no wonder there were products like cocaine gum (and its present in red dead redemption 2 as a one of the special items that gives benefits to the player) until post ww2 that the actual consequences of cocaine use begand to be shown xD
1:47:13 they’re all dead besides John it’s been brought up again and again that they disbanded and went their separate ways until John was ordered to get the stragglers
I'll keep saying it, you need to see the Survivor Timeline Tomb Raider game's cinematics (atleast) they are amazing, and convey a story I think you will like.
I recommend for the red dead redemption 2, u look the pc game full movie. The game is the most beautiful open world and the cinematic is absolutely amazing. The preference is playing by your self, the game content hours and hours of amazing conversations or surprises in the road. The game is much much better than the first.
Mannnn you NEED to see RDR2, I would love an ACTUAL playthrough from you, you can def take your time with i and get immersed, not just watching another persons edits of cutscenes only.
Hopefully the RDR2 video you watch doesnt cut out as much important information. Half of the story told both RDRs is told on horseback and whoever made the video cut out pretty much all the horseback riding. Though from a cinematography perspective, there's not much going on, cause it's just gameplay
The cuts are not the games fault, it’s whoever uploaded the footage of the cutscenes. They didn’t include gameplay which includes more dialogue which adds context to the cutscenes

Mannnn you NEED to see RDR2, I would love an ACTUAL playthrough from you, you can def take your time with i and get immersed, not just watching another persons edits of cutscenes only.
You Definitely Need To Experience RDR2 Now Bro Trust Me
u will love rdr2!! i need it too
Would love to see your reaction to Death Stranding as the sequel is coming out later this year, I mean after both TLOU Part 2 and Red Dead 2
Hopefully the RDR2 video you watch doesnt cut out as much important information. Half of the story told both RDRs is told on horseback and whoever made the video cut out pretty much all the horseback riding. Though from a cinematography perspective, there's not much going on, cause it's just gameplay
If you liked this, you'll definitely love Red Dead 2. I'd say it's honestly one of the best sequels in gaming in terms of it's story
