Been a while since I got to do one of these! Let's see how this newest entry into the franchise holds up (especially against the 2016 movie). #ghostbusters #reaction #youtuber
The genius didn't do her homework. No camcorders/smartphones. It's a ton of fun, and Phoebe's jokes are hilarious. :D Edit: the mother had a neglectful absentee father, so she doesn't know how to connect with children because her parents never really did that well with her either. That is the biggest complaint I've heard about Ghostbusters afterlife. He could have called, or sent letters, or done something other than just built a shrine. Otherwise, it's a ton of fun.
@@weathermangohanssj4 There was also that bit in the beginning of GB2, when he was conducting research on the idea of human emotions affecting the surrounding environment (like forcing a couple to wait for couples therapy for hours while slowly increasing the temperature, which showed promising energy readings) and introducing a puppy to a little girl in a playroom and moments later suggesting "What happens if we take away the puppy?" He also admitted the last thing he performed a physical on was a chimpanzee, before doing one on Baby Oscar.
honestly I tend to cringe every time a show brings up smartphones. Yes they exist but it feels the same as when movies like Spy Kids tried to implement the appeal of video games into the movie. Many shows tried to talk about how video games were getting more popular and the growing controversy it created. Arguements began to spiral about whether or not games were bad for the minds of kids because adults didn't know what to do with it. Suddenly the enemy wasn't rock music or heavy metal it was games and comics. Big eyed nerds who played games and read comics were made to look like losers because that was how society viewed them at the time. Bringing Iphones into stories they don't need to be in kind of has the same issue to me. It's tone deaf to the fact that they're part of our daily lives to a point we can't imagine them not being there but, at the same time we forget how many countries do not have them and remain ignorant to the fact that iphones more often than not only create problems in movies -shrug-.
The original was lightning in a bottle, miraculous and as the result of the stars aligning. I feel Afterlife was effectively a Dr. Frankenstein machine with vaccum tubes and tesla coils built to do the same thing. Yes it's crude in comparison to the strange perfection that was the original, but it gets that damn lightning the hell into that bottle. Also consider what the movie had to do: Please fans after 2016 Restart a 30+ year old franchise Tell an entertaining story Pay homage to the original cast when one of them has died Deal with Bill Murray Do all this in an effects heavy premise with a shoestring budget It's frankly amazing that it managed to be greater than the sum of its parts.
Quill i think i have to disagree on your criticism on a kid repairing a proton pack, i think the functionality of the scene overshadows the outstanding convience. Because in this scene we not only see how far removed from people in her life she is intelligently, but we also see her connect with someone on her level for the first time, and spend time with an estranged grandfather she never knew. It also shows igon's character development to as we see him help her but also having fun and even joking...the rigid scientist too caught up in his work to recognize when someone is being sarcastic, now connects with people emotionally and forshadows how he was willing to sacrifice for those people...also each new buster gets a thing, the bro gets the car, podcast gets the trap, and the girl gets the pack...the movie loses a lot if this scene doesnt play out how it does both for plot and character
I'm speaking as someone who holds Egon as his favorite of the team, and sometimes love seeing characters step outside and grow from their role, which reinforces their 3 dimensions as a character. I loved the moments seeing Egon, even as a non-corporeal spirit, behave tenderly and fatherly around Phoebe (while also snarking at her with just a lamp) and probably gave her the most meaningful connection she's had in years. This is major character development considering in his last theatrical release he was still the lovable shy eccentric scientist, but would also border on MAD scientist at times ("let's see what happens when we take away the puppy").
I do worry about CGI being used to bring actors back from the dead, but to be honest I think this was the most fitting and respectful way to do it. Since Egon's a ghost, it's OK if the CGI is a little wonky, he doesn't need to look totally real. And it gives them an excuse to have him remain mute. Although, to be frank...I kinda like him more as a lamp, I thought that was a clever and amusing way to have him be in the movie without being in the movie. But on the other hand, seeing him and Phoebe basically recreate the Gohan/Goku Kamehameha was pretty damn cool. They also gave him a definite sendoff, meaning we no longer have to worry about him being gone from here on out. All in all, I think they did this because it just feels like it should have been done while Harold Ramis was alive, it felt like it was done for personal reasons of the people involved rather than as some kind of marketing stunt. In any case, I am on board for more movies. I like the new direction and I love Phoebe as a character, I'm looking forward to seeing her mature into a ghost-busting genius.
Supposedly Jason Reitman (the Director) went to Harold Ramis' family to get their blessing, and they were so moved to allow his likeness to be featured. The idea of him communicating through lamps and chess pieces could also be seen as Egon coming to terms with his new existence as a ghost and learning to practice and grow in strength before finally manifesting as in corporeal form.
I stayed! Unfortunately I was the only one that did, though it was a cool scene. I was a bit confused though because earlier when Ray was talking on the phone he mentioned that the firehouse got turned into a starbucks, and if that really happened then why did they leave the containment unit there......hopefully when the movie comes out on DVD it'll have some deleted scenes showing the original ghostbusters getting back together and ready to fight Gozer and some other things. As for how they knew to go to Summerville? I figure Janine got in touch with them shortly after the supernatural fireworks started up.
Yeah, last 20 minutes, the floodgates in my heart were on the verge of breaking. Supposedly the filmmakers went to Harold Ramis' family to get their blessing before putting his likeness in the movie, if that alleviates any ethical questions of putting deceased actors into movies.
Of course you're not worried about liability when you unleash hellbeasts. Last time you wrecked Dr Wolf's office like that, your liability was mysteriously handled by Prince Blueblood's insurance. CONTINUITY
Not a lot of films leave me feeling just so darn good after the credits start rolling..... but this film did it for me! I couldn't help but feel so good as I walked out of that theater. Afterlife isn't perfect, because perfection is impossible, but this film had plenty of heart and love and respect for the source material. It had some moments that made me chuckle and the spectacle wasn't overdone. And the ending........ So many feels and interpretations of that scene, both in the film and outside the film.
I saw this movie the day it came out and it was fucking awesome! I even cried at the end of it as it brought back some good memories for me and the feeling's I had for Ghostbusters 1 and 2. I will admit there were some nitpicks I had with the movie but I still loved it. I would see this again.
FYI, That movie was filmed in Alberta, Canada. About most of it was filmed here. I didn't see them filmed it, but a friend of mine went there with his Ghostbusters group in their gear and took pictures with the car~~~
Fun fact this is technically before Ghostbusters movie not including the 2016 why because of the Ghostbusters the video game which is classified as by some people Ghostbusters 3
I would rank them as: Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters Afterlife, Ghostbusters II, then any animation ever made about Ghostbusters. 2016 did not happen for me. (Hooves over ears saying la,la,la,la I hear nothing)
I personally loved this movie. It did such a great job as a last hurrah for the Ghostbusters. I actually had tears at the end.
Serendipity! I also saw this today. Loved it. The chase was an awesome taste (rhyming!) to the climax.
“When there’s something strange, in the neighborhood, who you gonna call, SILVER QUILL”
Something I legit didn't see coming was that Rainbow Dash USB flashdrive...... really neat that Podcast is a lowkey brony
When I saw that in the theater, I just go “I Approve”
I seriously was not expecting that! The moment he whipped it out it immediately took me back to 2012 XD
@@PrinceApollo117 Shoot I straight up busted out laughing in the theater and went “Yes!” putting both fists up in the air XD

Egon's family was already struggling to make ends meet, maybe they couldn't afford smartphones.
Haven't watched the new movie, but did you really expect the man who straightened his slinky to have the ability to function around a child?

My brother and I had the exact same reaction at Sigourney Weaver's credit that you did. Nice bumping into you at Kokoro!

Also consider what the movie had to do:
Please fans after 2016
Restart a 30+ year old franchise
Tell an entertaining story
Pay homage to the original cast when one of them has died
Deal with Bill Murray
Do all this in an effects heavy premise with a shoestring budget
It's frankly amazing that it managed to be greater than the sum of its parts.
Don't forget the director probably getting embarrassed by his co-director and possibly the original cast that knew him as a kid on a frequent basis.
This is how you do a reaction video: by focusing on the reactions and NOT just sitting there staring a screen as the original video plays out in full.
The small joys of seeing a new breath put into a movie instead of a new nail in its coffin.

very true, thats the reason I didnt mind this scene

I giggled out loud at Phoebe's jokes in the movie theater, and I wasn't the only one.
Yeah, they were so bad they were giggleworthy.
The whale one was legitimately good
Was it just me or did anyone stay through the end credits and see the scene with the containment unit in New York blinking
I stayed! Unfortunately I was the only one that did, though it was a cool scene.

I have to wonder, did he miss the Emergency Light on the Firehouse Containment Unit like I did by not sitting through the ENTIRE Credits?
damn, i remember when you did this for 2016,( boy what a train wreak.. ), i loved this movie, second best Ghostbusters movie in my opinion.
It wasn't just the marshmallow's, my entire theater was that happy when they died
Any Ghostbuster movie is better than 2016 one
It's a low bar. So low you'd kinda _have_ to be an undersized horse or some variation to limbo under it.
Best line of the movie can be summed up in one word.... "Ray!"
I like Ghostbusters 2, I kinda have similar feelings to it that Linkara has.
I missed these reaction vids of yours. Also anyone that DIDN'T cry at the end when Egon faded into the heavens has no soul.
I can’t say that I didn’t
Yes. It’s not the all girl cast to why I didn’t like 2016’s GB. I just found it trying too hard yo be funny

To be fair, the Keymaster was shown to be a bit of an idiot in the original movie as well.
7:45 that is literally what my dad said
Fun fact this is technically before Ghostbusters movie not including the 2016 why because of the Ghostbusters the video game which is classified as by some people Ghostbusters 3
I do agree, this movie does take a bit to get going, but once it does its a hell of a ride, x1000 for fans of the series overall like myself
That was funny please be better than 2016 please be better than 2016 😂
Hey maybe you should do MLP A New Generation no context!
YES!
This gave me (ironically) Life.
The True Ghostbusters 3
Amazing
Haven’t seen one of these in a long time. I really like when you use this format. 😁
i kinda expected your next without context to be mlp gen 5, but this is nice too
Gen 5 design video is in the works!
Answer the Call: 74% on RT
Afterlife: 63% on RT
Go home critics, you're drunk
I would rank them as: Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters Afterlife, Ghostbusters II, then any animation ever made about Ghostbusters.
2016 did not happen for me. (Hooves over ears saying la,la,la,la I hear nothing)
Awesome and cool,wow,epic.
I need context.
Without Context comment: Princess Luna is shipping.
This is the first time I saw a movie before the react without context xD
Have you considered reviewing The Owl House?
I don’t think it counts under the law when you’re the one being possessed.
Did you liked it when they used the original music for this movie?
THANK YOU FOR NOT BEING LIKE THE CRITICS!
Ok you Dynamic Albatross, Porgs or the micro Marshmallow Men?
Marshmallow Men. They at least conjured nostalgia and even served an antagonistic role.
I was kinda expecting Dune Book One, but okay.
I found podcast pretty annoying at the start
Does that mean he became less annoying as the movie went on? Did he ever cross the line into likeable?
cool
Just watched the film myself, absolutely great. Have to agree with you too.
Nice idea silver
