I've used so many products on the market to create a rusty look, but after seeing your tutorial, I'm excited to try your method! The most real rust effect I've seen.
Any black and brown acrylic paint will do; but in particular, we used Apple Barrel Colors™ Apple Black (20504) and DecoArt™ Cinnamon Brown acrylic paints.
We have not tried that, but can't see why it shouldn't work similarly 😊 You may wish to seal it with a fixative if it will be handled more often, to keep the faux finish intact. We recommend a matte finish spray.

Is spray clear coat ok? After it dries?
While we did not use a clear coat, we think it would be a great idea to keep the faux finish intact. We would recommend a fixative in a matte finish.
Can you use this technique on a tin can?
