    Good Job, reminds me when I was younger my brother and i, put a sooped up 400 small block in a 1941 Dodge one ton. one ton Chevy rear end , front one tone Chevy suspension , 4 speed Chevy trans, and power steering. It's alot of work and figuring. I really am amazed with the bell housing yous made. So cool yous are very talented.

    Great to see this level of "enginuity"; luv to watch one off projects like this. Nice thing about a remote filter is you can put it where it's both protected and easy to change.

    We had a 1979 F100 4X4 with this same motor in it. My dad put several clutches in it over the years, like every 8,000 to 10,000 miles. My dad and the clutch shop were convinced the motor had too much torque so they kept upgrading clutch size until it was maxed out.
    I inherited the truck and decided once and for all to figure out what was going on. The motor mounts made for it went from the front of the block to the front crossmember. Then the transmission mount was toward the back of the trans. So all of the weight was unsupported in the middle. This caused the lower bellhousing bolts to loosen and strip out which then caused the input shaft to go out of alignment and warble out the center of the clutch disk.
    By the time I discovered this the holes had been drilled out and tapped to bigger sizes a few times and there wasn't enough meat leftover to really fix the issue. So out went the Perkins and in went a 351W.
    I miss that truck and really want to recreate what I had but with proper motor mounts to balance the weight like you did.

    Great conversion MacGyver !! I would like to try something like this someday. I did adapt a ford 351 into a 2 ton that had a 292 engine. I used the original trans and bellhousing with two 1/2 in plates between. Keep up the good work, and Thanks.

    The Perkins 354 was put in everything in Australia. Trucks ,Headers, Petrol Kero tractors were repowered with them, boats irrigation pumps. In the1960s They were advertised with the slogan " You are going to see a whole lot more of the Perkins 6-354. I have one in 6 ton truck. A great choice for your F350.

    Nice job. Some rubber engine & transmission mounts will definitely help quiet it down, as will some sound insulation in the engine compartment. Consider adding a pre-start auxiliary electric oil pump .

    I've done a couple of these conversions over the last 20 years ,, my favorite was my grandfather's 1983 chevy S10 4x4 which i replaced the 2.8 liter V6 with a 4BT cummins engine ,, i also have a 1973 jeep J-30 1 ton truck which i rebuilt from the frame up ,, including a new frame ,, I used a detroit diesel for this one ,,8V-71TA with an eaton fuller 13 speed behind it ,,,I use this truck to pull my 40 foot travel trailer so all the extra power is nice to have

    Thats a good conversion using a Perkins diesel parts are very abundant and less headaches with maintenance and wiring. Makes lots of torque especially with a turbo. The 7.3 power choke has many attachments and more headache to achieve the total set up . Great job

    I am so glad to have found this video. I found one of these engines at a scrap yard. It has new gaskets all over, like it's obvious that it's been freshly rebuild. They had it and a core engine sitting waiting to be hauled to the shredder when I seen them. The story was it was pulled out of a boat that was missing the out drive and was in a shop building that was recently purchased. None of the diesel truck mechanics I've shone it to knew what engine it is. My engine is missing the data plate and if I hadn't ran across this video it would still be unknown just what I have. I ask you as kindly as I can would you tell me what model and any information you have or know about these engines? Mine is missing the intake manifold but it looks easy enough to fabricate one. Also can they be turbo ' ed, and if so how much pressure can they handle? This one most likely will re power a 87 4x4 Silverado with a turbo 400 transmission.

    • @dieselman8v923
      @dieselman8v923 9 років тому

      +Phil Lowman The engine is a 354ci Perkins, it yours came out of a boat then it would be a marine engine. They can be turbocharged as many were from the factory. They are no power monster rated from 90 to 105hp depending on the setup. If you look up 1850 Oliver tractor they had the 354 along with the 2-85 and 2-105 White tractor. There are some differences between the older ones and new ones.

      At this point I doubt if it matters anymore but the engine is likely from a 760 Massey combine.... an earlier one I'd guess as the later ones were painted black.

    Are you still running this truck as it is in the videos? Somewhere you mentioned doing one with a turbo as well. I have had many other projects going and havent started on my conversion. A fellow told me he would give me a 5 speed transmission from a 2 ton truck to go behind it. Recently I traded for an older Ford with a 6.9 V8 International diesel in it. how does your non asperated Perkins run compared to the 6.9 or 7.3 non asperated Fords? Also I ran across a Cummins 5.9 intake with turbo and inner cooler. I'm sure the intake will not fit but figured the turbo and inner cooler would be a close match for it. Whoever started the boat swap lost both manifolds, flywheel, bell housing. So every bit of that stuff I must fab together. Would just love to find out what kind of pulling power and acceleration to expected after the job it completed. Are these engines campairible to the Cummins 12 valve 5.9 liter?

      That would be cool. Do you mean the 7.8L Ford? If so, it should fit, a friend of mine measured it up. I'd like to try that too. My next Ford F350 project I'm contemplating a DT466 twin turbo with the bosh pump and bolted up to an Eaton Fuller with a divorceable NP205 transfer case. The only thing is I would probably have to cut the firewall.
