The choice between a travel trailer, fifth wheel, and motorhome is incredibly tough to make! I firmly believe that no perfect RV or RV type exists - there are always trade-offs. The goal then is not to find the perfect rig that will fit your travel, camping, and living styles in every situation.
The real goal is to select the RV type that will fit your style in most situations. For us, as full time RVers on a budget, we chose a travel trailer. We went this route with our RV choice mainly because travel trailers are usually cheaper for the same living space and have more layout options for small lengths - (which we have).
However, there are definitely downsides to travel trailers when compared to fifth wheels and motorhomes. In the video below we cover seven ugly truths about travel trailers that, in our opinion, would keep other prospective RVers from choosing a bumper pull camper over the other options.

Why'd you stop making videos?
I just watched your video with great interest. My husband and I full-timed for 12 years, and I can tell you a lot about what to NOT do and what TO DO. First of all, you should forget about your dream of a Class B since you have 5 animals. There is barely enough room for 2 people with no animals. We've had a Class B Chinook and after six weeks in it for two full-timers, we traded it in even for a brand new 5th wheel. We've traveled in many RVs over the years - 13 to be exact. We've had travel trailers and they are fine, wish we had kept the used Airstream and we would have a lot more money in the bank now. We never found the perfect rig, and we kept trading in and buying new ones paying cash for each one. We only had one pet (dog) while full-timing in our motor homes and 5th wheels. You get more livability in 5th wheels, but trust me, there are no perfect RVs. RVs deteriorate so much and even though we bought higher quality rigs, they still had issues. It doesn't matter what you have - there is NEVER THE PERFECT RIG. Learn to be content with what you have and always buy used. At one point as we got older we had two RVs, one at our Texas home base and a second smaller used travel trailer for the mountains. We loved the smaller travel trailer with one slide and it served us well. By buying used, you are letting someone else take all the depreciation, and your pocketbook will be happier. We spent quite a bit ourselves trying to get our perfect one. We had a class A which was used we enjoyed it but still had to pull a auto. We had a mini wine Motor Home it was fun unless going to the mountains scared us a few times, sold it, and our very favorite was our 5th wheel we bought a brand new one and traveled everywhere. We could hook up then go anywhere in our truck and let our two little dogs rest while we went sight seeing. Come back and walk them around the park. Anyway 5th wheel was the absolute best but we should have had a cover for it when not in use . It just lasts much better. We finally sold it my husbands health got where it was getting hard on him.It looked brand new to the couple that bought it . They saw it thought we wanted to much for it but they came back and said ours was the best by far it was spotless and we sold it.

I've had a class A, a 5th wheel and now a travel trailer. Of all of them I like the travel trailer the best. The one I definitely will not go back too is driving a motor home pulling a get around vehicle behind it. You end up with two engines, transmissions and drivetrains to maintain, along with still having to maintain the living amenities. It adds more extra maintenance than you think.

yeah we tote a volvo behind our class C rn. and it has its ups and down.. yeah it might be twice the up keep. but i tell you what its so much nicer having the car for if we just want to go explore or just run to the store and not run up a hug fuel bill doing so.
Yeah except when your truck breaks down your stuck there. You have to pack up everything to go anywhere, and like he said 10x worse to park in lots. I think both have major benefits. I think camping type living a trailer is good but if your living out of it and constantly traveling I think a tow vehicle is better.
I went from a class c motor home 32 ft. to a 21 ft. travel trailer. I love it and it doesn’t take me 30 minutes to setup.
We are full timers also in a class c. I can tell you with two adults, a large dog, two cats, and two rabbits you two persons would go absolutely crazy. Right on top of each other.
LOL, but why would you have that many pets living in a travel trailer?
If you went with a B your critters would be way more cramped. If you have pets they always should play a factor. There are pros and cons to every setup.

Exactly, right setup for the right situation..
I have a class b with my 2 kitties and it's just not enough room. And it's just me and it feels cramped :) I really lose sleep being in such close proximity with my kitties when their anxious bodies need to jump around a little. Even they need more space. I'm doing reversal as you and looking forward to a large living space with a TT worth slides. That being said, I don't just travel occasionally, I live in this full time which makes a difference in deciding. I also found that I want to hook up and be able to unhitch so that my kitties can "stay home" in the camper and enjoy air conditioning when I need to go places. That freedom is very important to me as well. When I have a class B they are stuck going everywhere I do and it's not always convenient since I then am off grid and I can't turn on a/c for them.
Since I am a solo camper/ traveller, I went with the Tab 320s Boondock pulling it with my Toyota Highlander. It is small, compact, easy to turn, easy on the gas mileage, and I don't feel any drag pulling it. The downside is that it does not have a lot of storage room. I store a lot of items inside the cargo compartment of the vehicle. It works for me.
I’ve done all the above and yes each has its pluses/minuses. In your case, I understand a class B. However, we have downscaled from a 32’ 5th wheel to an 18’ bumper pull. My thinking is if you’re thinking class B then a bumper pull 18’ makes way more sense. 1 you have the canopy for storage still. 2 you can unhook and use your tow vehicle to get around. 3 if something happens your “house” isn’t in the shop. 4 if you’re willing to down scale to this degree then go 18’-19’. You’ll still have more room than a van and these little trailers can be put/turned around just about anywhere. 5 you still have all the amenities of a bigger trailer but smaller package. Just my thoughts.
My main concern was having my house in the shop. Glad someone with experience could verify.
Our dream rig would be a Class C with a Jeep toad.

I tow my 7000 lb travel trailer with my new Land Rover defender. The defender is also a beast for off-roading.
That dog was exactly me through this entire video. I'm sure Tom and Stacey have just as many gripes about their setup. You work with what you've got. Be happy you can afford a 4x4 diesel and TT in this day

I've camped in everything from tarps to tents, truck campers, Class A, travel trailers, Class C, Class B, glamping, etc. Class B is what I have now & I love it. I've had 3 class B's. They are the easiest to park, esp in cities & shopping malls, set up/tear down time is 15-20 minutes, easy to stop while travelling to take a break or make some food, easier on fuel consumption, can be used as a commuter vehicle if necessary, easy to tow things like a boat or small car, etc. cheaper to heat & cool for weather conditions, & the roof never leaks! Maintenance is quick & easy. Seriously, we don't need a lot of "stuff" when we travel & camp. The basics, food, water, cooking stuff, etc. so a lot of storage isn't necessary. A roof top carrier is handy for items seldom used or to bulky to store inside like an axe, folding chairs, etc. I'll never use anything else to camp in except a Class B. Happy trails everyone.
With my 40ft Class A, there is always apprehension when going to a new park or even messing up on directions and having to turn around in an odd situation. I have a lot more respect for truckers and especially before they had gps.
This is how I feel and actually why I want to drive trucks! Speaking of GPS, navigating is becoming a hobby of mine. I can drive from my house to my mom's house without GPS... she lives 3 states away. I used to be the type to get lost driving down the street. Now I can tell you how to get there and everything maybe even the ppl you may see on the way there. I realized how much I was missing always having to check my phone for directions. It absolutely parallels being trapped in social media vs living in real life. It's a whole different world and it's so sad ppl are missing it. Anyway. Let me get back to researching. I'm buying my first mobile home in a couple years so I can live in the world more. Cheers!
Just returned home from a vacation from hell that was partly due to the weather, which gave us a bad, bad cold but what exacerbated it was our first time in a travel trailer. I have used and towed trailers and driven a truck for many years and towing a trailer was not going to be an obstacle in my mind. The grief came when I realized all I didn't know about our single axle 20-foot travel trailer. The setup, the leveling, the attachments, the connections, the troubleshooting, finding places to put things, and the small spartan space made me realize that a travel trailer life was not for me. Wish we had seen your warning video before our misadventure. Great video and good information for others to consider.
Biggest downer for "ALL" travel trailers is the fact you need to park it and explore nearby and "NOT" so nearby POI. If you were to see a birds eye map of your path it would look like an octopus. This is a huge amount of time and freedom lost. Trailer base camp type traveling is a downer. We rented a class B for a loop of CA, OR and WA. It was super easy getting parking anywhere. Literally had our home base everywhere we parked...even small trailheads, beaches and National Park view points. Best thing is you plan a constant trip itinerary of going forward without going back to sleep or retrieve the trailer.The bad thing about the class B (we had a 21 footer) is NO space for storage. Everything has tradeoffs....I suggest you rent before you romanticize about it's perks. Two adults, two cats and a large dog in a class B is cramped.
My wife and I have a airstream 16rb Bambi tow vehicle f150 v8 4x4 extended cab box on truck has only a lid do not use any sway bar or weight distribution hitch. After two years of part time rving up to 10 days trips and out about 20 trips we have learned less is better. In the bed of the truck carry tire changing tool's for both the truck and trailer small bag of tools for both the truck and trailer and other items such as grill chairs etc. Never any issue with sway can make hard u turn no problem can set up and break down 30 to 40 minutes the learning curve come and gone and we are glad we went small the first time .
Having had two motorhomes, I love my 2021 Jayco Jay feather 24 RL combined with my Titan XD with 4 wheel drive.
Having the ability to place my trailer and go off for a camping expedition off road satisfies the overland bug.

The class B is great but forger storage/ space to spread out and you'll have to leave your pets behind ??
Actually many of your negatives for a travel trailer really depend on what model and features you have
I have a custom ordered 2018 Jayco Eagle 322 RLOK,
it has:
auto level
(I installed a level mate pro to make sure I stay in range of the auto level, when I pick a spot)
wireless remote for the slides and awning
dual pane frameless windows that tip out (not slide)
a sanicon that is a macerator pump that lets me put a portable tank in my truck and it pumps up to it making it easier to transport and dump else were.
a residential whirlpool with ice maker / water filter / dispenser
a full size bathroom, kitchen, king size bed, living room with recliners and a couch
No Stairs inside (ie fifth wheel) but in this case has the tall ceilings like a fifth wheel.
a backup & observation camera
Good year endurance tires with MorRyde 3000 suspension.
I installed 960 watts of solar/200AH-lithium(BB)/ 3800-4500 igen 4500df/60lb extra propane/2 micro -airs/high speed internet/Washer-Dryer and several other upgrades.
I use a hensley arrow that has no sway and shifts the weight to all axles (fifth wheel can’t even with airbags), it also can be backed up to nearly 90 degrees without touching the truck and I can open the tailgate without hitting.
Since I tow with a truck it also means I have a vehicle to drive around in when I get to my destination without having to break camp.
Since it is a travel trailer it is typically much lower than a fifth wheel or class A or C (Not B)
So many times there are ways to remove the frustrations of a particular setup.
Not every rig is for everyone and that is the beauty of choice!

Our first motorhome was a 34 foot Winnebago Brave; LOVED it...
We had a travel trailer (2019 Winnebago) loved it. Traded it in on a class C (my wife is sick and we do dialysis on the road). I had no idea how much easier the set up would be. Now, your wife making you food while you drive is the best thing. But the setup for me has been the second so i agree 100% with that point. Our trailer had electric stabilizers. But our class C has leveling jacks. It's a world of difference. I don't think a motorhome is worth the money unless it's like a childhood dream like mine. I loved RV'ing in the trailer. But the motorhome is another level. Don't let anyone tell you any different. Your class B van would be better but it would cost more and you would have less space. Nether is perfect. I also had a car that I could flat tow already. So I didn't have to buy something. And my tow vehicle was a lease so that wasn't an issue either. If your not set up perfect for the switch like I was then really think it through and count the pennies.
Your guys are the perfect candidate for a Storyteller Overland!!
My suggestion is a 5th wheel toy hauler with a side by side. Those have a ton of room, and are more maneuverable. You would have the best of all worlds. More storage, more water tank capacity, more solar panel space (I plan to devise a tilt prop system that allows for multiple tilt angles and all four tilt directions that way you adjust the panels not the tow vehicle.) You will have your off road vehicle and the set up would be quicker with those tilt out ramp/deck/patios. I will find some models and send them to you. Maybe you can do a follow up video on what your next choice will be. Then you can do a whole series of videos on that process. Have a good week!

I’m 17 dropped out working full time to afford a trailer and a truck I want to travel full time and do DoorDash for money and flip cars for cash I’m hoping I can just drop off my trailer at a camp site and do DoorDash whenever I have time your vids have really helped me but I’m hoping everything works out for me I’m about to get my license and a car so I can do DoorDash and quit my job because my sister does DoorDash and is making 20-25$ an hr bringing home 200$ almost everyday but thanks for the content it’s actually so helpful💯

I tow my 2900lb 20 ft travel trailer with my 06 Jeep Wrangler LJ (6i4L). I LOVE this Jeep. That said, she does struggle pulling it uphill and with the older wrangler suspension system, I bounce around like crazy. So I recently, like yesterday, purchased a 06 Toyota Tundra V8 to pull the trailer. I hope it does a better job. My current set up and break down is about 20 mins. But I'm used to 40 mins to an hour with tent camping so anything less than that is hella fast to me lol.
I can imagine the big trailers being super scary to park and sketchy to drive. We are starting full time travel in a few weeks! Can't freaking wait :) hoping we get followers on here and then can do it long term 😁 We won't be doing rv life but we are moving out and then going from place to place 🤘
All very valid points! Thanks! It takes us a full day to prep our TT for a trip; however, I wash it, lube it, tire pressures, do laundry, etc. I tow with a ½ ton RAM Rebel 4x4, which makes us 55 feet long. We really want a loaded Class C with 5000+ towing plus a small toad (Bronco 😎), which is only 47 feet. I could never drive a Class A, B or C without a toad... that would be SOOOOOO limiting for our recreational activities. Unfortunately, to get into a 30 foot Class C plus a new toad would set us back another $90K; whereas, we are now debt free. Tough pill to swallow...

My wife and I started with a used travel trailer, then a new travel trailer, then a 36 ft fifth wheel and full length F-350. Traded the 5th wheel and truck for a 30' class A and have never looked back. I advise thinking long and hard about a class B, sure they have a certain allure but the amenities can be challenging. Look at a smaller Class A and towing a Jeep. That sounds best for your type of camping.
Next time I get an extra $100-250 K, I'll give away my 23' TT and Ford Expedition to get that dream setup.
We have truck camper. Host 10. 5 Cascade. Quick teardown and setup. Go anywhere, camp anywhere tow anything, like boat or small trailer (8 to 10ft) for extra storage or carry side x side.
We have a 22’tt pulled by half ton 4wd truck. Works perfect for us and setup is less than 15 minutes. Levelmate pro and electric jack is a must. Plus, we get to explore allthe offroad trails when we drop the trailer.
David you know you wouldn't be happy in a class B,,, you would miss your fur babies! There just isn't enough floor space in the Class B. Sprinter Disel, rocks, just can't justify the $$ ratio to the space you can get for less money.. However, the Winnebago Navion 24D is my pick when I win the lottery - I'll get 1 for you all too! This is going to be a L O N G week for you without Roe. Safe Travels!
Thank you! Took me less than a second to call BS on David wanting a Class B. Their animals are too important to them and no way would s huge fog like Sweetie and 2 massive rabbits and their cages and supplies fit comfortably in a Class B. Even the cats when you add in a litter box and supplies would be questionable. I think it's already tight for all those animals in what they have now.
They'd have to get an E450 based Class B, because most Sprinter based units have a GCCC of around 1,000 pounds. With all the gear they need for full timing, they'd be better with a 29ft Class A on an F53.
we have a class c rn that we full time in, but even still we find ourselves dancing around each other a lot of the time wishing for more room. going to look at a class A this weekend. fingers crossed we get it. :D
To combat the issue of having to turn your trailer around to maximize the sun a simple hinged low profile mounting brackets for the solar panels so you can manually move them as needed🤷🏻♂️
I won't disagree with any of your reasoning. But, each of us has our own wish list & needs. I've never owned any of them. I'm a long distance truck driver, so I'm used to figuring out how to maneuver 70' of tractor & trailer in places designed for 50' of vehicle. If I were able to get into it, I would get a 45 or 48 ft coach bus & do the rv build myself. There are lots of folks doing this with school buses & coach buses. Unless you get a school bus that was built as an activity bus, they won't have any cabinets underneath. But coach buses put class A's to shame with storage underneath.
To each his own, we have a Ford F350 4X4 single wheel rear and pull a 5th wheel. It is short wheel base. I added a triton 55 gal. tank. It is really good at getting around off road. 5th wheel is 33'4" tons of room with onan propane generator. My advice get what you want. If you get a jeep get a winch you will go places you should not go. Love your channel.
Currently have a 32' travel trailer. Hoping to eventually get a motorhome and go full-time!
My husband and I were originally looking at getting a TT, but I knew we'd miss our Jeep if we did that. Luckily, the in-laws have a Class A that they haven't been able to use much, so they're letting us borrow it. We've had some issues (one time both the RV AND the Jeep died in the middle of nowhere!), but it's worth it in the end! You can really get out there with a Jeep!
Man, I feel your pain. I do hope you get what you want. Those cats in particular are great. We've had cats over the years but not now. I just sold my Casita after 3 years of use. It was my first camper and it fit our needs great for part time use. I can see where a Class C would be better for full time. I hated pulling even the Casita. I do hope your wife see this video. She will get the not so subtle hint about your wants. Good luck.
We got a 5400 lbs Rockwood Minilite 2509S, and tow it with a 2012 Tahoe, better for more people, but had to upgrade the cooling for the transmission it would borderline overheat on hilly terrain/highways. Put an auxiliary transmission cooler and the temps have lowered over 50 degrees!!!
Have you thought of a front receiver? You can push the TT from the front of the truck, for much more control. Plus you can get a winch that’s a receiver mount, or front bicycle rack or utility platform all easily attached with a 2” receiver.
Definitely something to look into. Adds tons of flexibility. Also helpful when being towed out of mud or helping others that are stuck

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. I plan on getting one, mostly to transport my e-bike but have thought that it would make positioning my trailer or turning in tight spots much more doable.
Definitely look at a front hitch. They are inexpensive and self installable. (I got mine from e-trailer.com. It was a simple bolt on except a small hole cut in the front plastic grill.) I once drove a 19 foot boat trailer down a twisty road to launch it from the jon boat launch ramp because there had been an accident at the main ramp and everything was all backed up. Everything is so visible and logical when pushing a trailer. None of the tricks to try to back up a trailer.

Long vehicles that get stuck in the middle going over obstacles is called "high centering."
New sub, loving the content so far. We just inherited a 2010 Jayco Jay Flight 25 BHS, so research is on for what we want to do, and how this RV works... nothing special, but an awesome upgrade from our Jayco Pop-up.
I see so many people pulling travel trailers without properly leveling the tongue to their hitch. The rig bows down at the hitch. Leveling is easy if you place sticky levels on one side and one end of your trailer. Not all brands use sliding windows, some crank out. If you have manual stabilizers, bring a cordless drill with a coordinating size socket.
I’m sure someone else has mentioned it, but one of the main advantages of a motor home is the fact that you can use it when rolling down the road, nor just when parked at a camp site. To me, that’s huge. That being said, I own a 5th Wheel ; )
We recently got a 31ft Class C. I love it because it's like a tiny house, and I'm spoiled. We plan to set out for full time RVing in October and if we get tired of it, we could buy land and set the Class C on it as a home.
Took me a year to find land that actually let's you park a rig for more than a few weeks, just fyi.
@@Landpirate Kentucky is the answer as long as you don’t mind a little winter. I have 10 acres with a house and a couple of barns…I can park an RV and live in it, haul in a mobile home or even build a cabin without any permit. A lot of valid points you make here. Doing the RV life full time doesn't compare with what my spouse and I do. We pretty much do 2-3 day getaways within a 200-mile radius of our home (one can do that in Wyoming). The main goal for us, is going up in altitude to get away from the heat and to enjoy the solitude (yes, we boondock) for a few days. As an individual who drove big truck (semi-tractor/trailer) for 47 years, I would prefer a 5th wheel (great handling and control), but I do not like the way a 3/4 ton rides while empty. My half-ton, with our 25', 5500 lb. (loaded) trailer, is just fine for our summer jaunts. Nevertheless, I enjoy your informative videos and think they are beneficial for full-timers and casual campers alike. Thanks!

I love my class A. It is a 34 ft and i tow a tracker. I find this size very easy to maneuver. My friends got a 39 ft class A and they have to plan every move.
Would you have room for the animals in a class B? Does a class C offer the same ability to get into the type of camping spots you want to go to?

We have a class C and tow a Kia Soul. Like others have said - there are pros and cons to every rig. It would be nice not to tow, but then how do you easily explore and park in towns like Jackson Hole? We would like more counter space, and I've already added another usb outlet in the bedroom. And that bed... thank you so much for the video on how to put in a Hatchlift Bedlift Kit. I had to reinforce the sides big time to hold the hydraulic arms, but it is one of the best improvements I've made. Bottom line is, this is our first RV, but not the last as we make notes along the way.
Once I get my solar on my 19ft TT and go full time I will have to upgrade from my 4Runner to an 8cyl Sequoia. I have it built out including solar and kitchen, so keeping as long as I can. The drop and explore is one of my top priorities, but can see slipping into a class c after a few years.

I would consider a class B for shorter trips or campsites with space constraints... A small class A would be nice as well and I would travel longer with it... Both would need to be lifted or with some solution for enduring some of the forest roads and some of the BLM roads and campsites...But I would never travel far or for weeks at-a-time without our 36ft 5th wheel, as long the road is fairly straight or not too narrow with low branches we can get it almost anywhere we can turn it to park or go back (you would be amazed to see some of the places we been)... Last year we traveled for 5 months and 28 different campsites, only 3 private...
I would love to see a collaboration video between you and the 3-in-1 team (your sponsor) detailing their products and how they are different one from another... As a consumer, they have different labels and with exception of the dry lube all others smells and look the same to me...
I'm in total agreeance. I have a very nice travel trailer with 3 slides, 2 of them are opposing. I wish like crazy that I had of bought a class C instead of buying the one we have, for the very same reasons that you mentioned and a few more :-)
We have a 39 foot American Eagle 🚌. I will say the basement storage is like a Greyhound bus with 3 past through. It is a deasel pusher and my future plans is to put on it two stage air bags for more ground clearance. We have no slides so traveling is grate to have having the open concept.
Hello David. I watch all of your videos and love them all. So in this video you express an interest in a Class B RV. I myself had a Trailer, then a 33 foot Class A and now I have a 24 foot Class C. My RV is all decked out with internet, solar many custom installs of personal convenience gadgets. I also tow a 12 foot enclosed cargo trailer to haul my Harley Davidson. When I’m not towing the cargo trailer I tow my minivan. My Class C being only 24 feet, I can make U-turns anywhere I need to and easily park it anywhere too. Just saying my 2 cents for Class C’s. I also follow another couple who live and travel full time in a Class B. Oddly enough they are switching to how you have been traveling except for one difference. They installed a rooftop tent on the bed of their truck, while they are waiting for their trailer to be built which they will take ownership of in August. So for them they will tow a trailer to set up as a base camp, the drive their pickup truck deeper into the woods and camp in their rooftop tent which is setup on the bed of their pickup truck. I have a Rockwood Mini Lite which is about the same size as your TT I think, 24'. It does have tons of interior storage and it is just me and the cat so more than enough. Exterior storage is pretty lacking because the murphy bed makes for a smaller pass through area. Works great for me but I only use it a few times a year and rent it out the rest of the time. My dream is a class B+ Leisure Van.

Each definitely has their pros and cons. We have been to so many RV shows and have considered so many different RVs the past two years. My wife has a 2dr Jeep that she loves and if we considered a Class B motorhome to pull it but the ground clearance is an issue. As we want to get into the backcountry and boondock. Instead we bought a Starcraft Launch Extreme 17BH that we pull with my Toyota 4Runner. It's small and is easy to maneuver. It's just us and our medium sized dog. It's also lifted so the trailer and SUV have a lot of ground clearance. Using it camping this year but plan to go full time next year when our son graduates. Great little couples coach. Leave the Jeep behind in Montana where we plan to base out of in spring/summer.
You've also inspired us to upgrade and make changes to our trailer to adapt to full-time RVing. Plan to remove dinette and bunks partially to create a closet and add a breakfast nook/work station instead of dinette. Also compost toilet to increase our gray water is on the list. I have a Springdale tailgaters toy hauler and the storage is non existent. I added cabinets along the garage that helped a lot.but I wish I had got a fithwheel for the storage.
We have a 5th wheel and we can be set up in 15 minutes. That's with hand crank stabilizers cranked by hand no drill. What takes you so long?

Hi David, Glad to see the video. I think you might like a 5th wheel that is a Toy Hauler and put a side by side in it. ;-) If you go with a class B you will need a trailer to haul the side by side or maybe get a standard transmission jeep to use as a TOAD Vehicle. ;-)
I've heard toy haulers smell like exhaust and gas on the inside because of the "garage". Roe's grandparents have one and it definitely reeks in there haha.

What was the approx. Cost of solar that you use.
Do you have off- road travel trailers in the US? In Australia they make them specifically for this purpose, so they are high chassis, watertight, and with adaptable suspension that can go almost anywhere a 4WD can go. You might want to look into then as something that is inbetween.
As always, great video with great information. I’ve been pulling a TT for about 5 years now and completely agree with the cons.
That said, recommend a video directly comparing the pros to other style rigs. For example, cost of your class B rig, if you have a toad you are now maintaining 2 engines, if you have engine issues, your entire home is in that garage, etc…. I’m sure y’all went over the pros/cons when you settled on a TT but now that you’ve shown the negative side of your list, you should show the positives.

Access to remote locations is why I bought a small a-frame travel trailer I can tow behind my Jeep JKU Rubicon.
It takes about 15-20 minutes to do a complete set up. Or 5 minutes for an overnighter.
Howdy David, wish Roe a fun trip and safe return. Would you be interested in doing video on dump station procedures for newbies. I'm still in the planning process. I notice that RVs vary in position of fresh water fill, black tank flush, could be on either side. What hose lengths are recommended and things I don't even know to ask. I just imagine the anxiety of being next in line on my first dump with a line behind me. Thanks, take Bro
We probably wont do a video on that just because we are usually in a line also and don't have time to film a video because other people need to use the dump station too haha. However, dump stations usually are set up so you can approach the dump station from either side to get your dump tubes on the closer side. We have a 20 foot dump hose at it has served us well but you can find longer ones if you want.
Also, don't worry too much if there is a line. Just get in, do what you need to do, and leave. Everyone else is there to do the same thing and if it takes you a little while when you're learning it's no big deal. We have to fill up 141 gallons of fresh water each time and that takes a long time if the water pressure is low. It's okay 🙂

How often do you have to dump the black water/poop so your travel trailer doesn’t smell?
Wouldn't the additional pass-through storage in the front end of a fifth wheel likely more than make up for what you'd be losing from having a hitch in the truck bed? Some of those pass-throughs look like they'd be big enough to sleep in!
Nice job! Have you considered a Hensley Hitch? Eliminates almost all sway, and is a real game changer. I love driving a big crew cab truck, and having plenty of space for my 3 dogs (black labs) in the cab with me. 37 ft.Toy hauler with patio deck is on the way!😍 Hoping to find a good used quad to add to it. You guys seem to camp alot up in the woods. I prefer boondocking in wide open spaces, (because of my anxiety disorder😎). Can't wait to see your dream come true!!
I have near zero sway with my Equal-izer 14,000 hitch at less than 1/3 the cost and lower hitch weight. ½ ton towing 7,000 pounds and brake set at 5%. Been in 40+mph winds and get very little truck suck... FWIW

Have you thought about redesigning your panel mounts to allow them to tilt to either side? That would give you a bit more flexibility

You back into all campsites, so that your vehicle can be used at all times if necessary. Most travel trailer sites also should have an angle to pull into and not be perpendicular in nature. If they are, they are poorly designed campsites. Your electric brakes on your travel trailer should grab earlier than your tow vehicle brakes. You should feel resistance in the braking of your vehicle, just before you would normally feel your brakes on your vehicle applying. I agree with break down and set up of travel trailer vs a motorhome.
We haul a trailer about the same size as yours with a 1/2 ton pickup. I have an equalizing hitch with sway control. We have rented E series based Class Cs a few times. The rig I have handles much better on the road than these class Cs, especially in a cross wind. In a motorhome, everything rattles and clatters as you drive down the road. If you are towing, you can't hear the rattling that's going on in the trailer. It's certainly more difficult to get a trailer into a tight space. It takes me 10-15 minutes to connect or disconnect. Other than that, the rest of the set up is about the same.
I like the Sprinter based motorhomes too. We looked at a number of them I think they are, at best, about as big as the trailer you have. I'm guessing that a Sprinter based MH would handle better than a Ford E series based one. You would need to check the GCWR carefully before attempting to tow a Jeep with one. If you could fit all the stuff you take with you in a 1/2 ton, you could have a smaller, more nimble vehicle. If not, a Sprinter based MH probably isn't going to work either.
I've watched all your old videos and recall you originally planned to get a fifth wheel. I have never seen explained why you changed to a bumper pull. I have a fifth wheel with a long bed truck and would never give it up for a bumper pull.
