Thankfully they don't change the outcome of the game but we wanted to point them out so people are aware of them. 1. Adam attacks Nate with Alela for 2. Not really a misplay but it was missed in the narration 2. Nate draws more than 1 card from Sandstone Oracle with a Narset, Parter of Veils on the field. This was missed both in-game and in the editing process but thankfully doesn't change much and only gives Nate a solid last turn before the end
"This is our way to say thank you for the support for season one." No, thank YOU for putting together such amazing content. You guys are awesome, and I hope you're having as much fun playing these games as we have watching them.
Not to add too much onto your plate, but if you aren't already aware be sure to check out West Coast Commander as well. They uploaded their first video yesterday and it's a great one!
I love how you guys own your shit. When you make mistakes you explain how they didn't effect the game. I also love that you don't upload games with game breaking mistakes. Your narrating voice is great and entertaining to listen to. Keep up the fantastic content, in my eyes you currently have the best EDH channel on the tube.
At 26:27 Nate draws more than one card for his sandstone oracle. With Jordan's narset, he shouldn't have been able to draw more than 1 card for that trigger
Your narration has gotten better and better over time, I personally enjoy the stack being represented on the side to show the interaction. It's helped me teach my fiance the nuances of the game, though we play in a slightly less competitive meta. Enjoy the games, keep it up!
Adam, I see what you did there. You used a Flooded Strand to fetch a Dimir land, and a Polluted Delta to fetch an Azorious land. I appreciate the flex.
The design of these videos is excellent and considerate of your audience. The progress bar during the introduction sequence is something so easily overlooked, but I appreciate it so much. The information in that sequence is a necessary evil for any UA-cam channel thanks to the algorithm, but the progress bar makes me feel like you considered and valued my time. Alongside great content, that little detail earned the subscription and even a clicked bell.
just a quick heads up. holding priority only works in your own turn as the priority starts at the player whose turn it is. it probably didnt matter in this case, but it happened twice these games.
magerehenk was going to mention this too. Nate “holds priority” on bills turn. I was going to caution phrasing it that way if he is inferring that no one else had a response to his spells
Good games fellas, I like this midrange competitive format and always am brewing in that same range. I'd quickly like to point out that flashback may need paid better attention to. Neither time I saw affected the games thankfully but game 1 I think Jordan sticks Spell Pierce in the graveyard after flashing it back and game 2 sees the same with Increasing Vengeance. A little fine tuning goes a long way and I'm enjoying the viewing format, will have to play catch-up on the other content now. Keep it up!
I love this channel both for it's crisp and clear narration and graphical overlays, especially with regards to the stack- it's awesome! After viewing every single episode, however, I say it's disingenuous. It's disingenuous to name this channel "Casually Competitive". Please accept this constructive criticism from a subscriber who truly enjoys your channel and wishes it to prosper. In Commander, we all know the only true problem in our format is power level disparity between decks. As a community, we must hold each other accountable in order to exact change on this widely acknowledged problem. What we are watching on this channel is in my opinion awesome and entertaining, but there's nothing casual about it.
If you have time I would suggest watching the video we've released called 'What is cEDH?' The goal with the name 'Casually Competitive' is to show that we are on the more casual side of competitive which is why we label ourselves as 'semi-competitive' during the video's introduction. I understand the confusion, but that's the general reasoning behind the name. I appreciate the feedback and will what I can to make the power levels as clear as possible
Love the content team ♥️ Leaving a comment for support, and the UA-cam algorithm. I like the high power level of the decks, but I'd love to see some fun deck building restrictions like a certain set or card theme 🤔 idk if that fits into the kind of content you all produce
Awesome video as usual, guys! Small complaint: Adam never, or almost never, attacked. Getting in a few points of damage here and there can be super meaningful even when it doesn't directly win the game, e.g. by causing an opponent to later draw fewer cards off a Bolas's Citadel/Top combo. Even in cEDH, creatures can turn sideways!
Have you all ever played with the folks at Playing with Power MTG? I ask because I remember an episode where a guy named Jordan played a Kefnet turns deck against the guys
Only thing I can point out on commentary is that when people do things before phase change, it isn't a "response", it is just the gaining of priority and casting a spell before the phase change. So it should be something like "Before X moves to combat, Y casts Z"
So, I have a question: when Bill loses the game in game two, doesn’t that remove him and everything associated with him from the game, and how is that different from the Neheb trigger? Unless I’m forgetting other life loss that turn, of course.
neheb counts all damage dealt regardless of if the person died because it was still damage dealt to an opponent on that turn, the things that leave when a person dies are thier permanents library and cards in grave and exile. Damage isn't a thing you have its the result of an action
hmm it probably makes no difference but you guys seem to have missed an attack by Adam at about 21:45. all of a sudden Alela is tapped when the turn passes.
For neheb deck You might wanna use muchmore land dest card to generate value. One of my friend plays neheb land destruction and make everybody unable to play while he getting value from damaging our life points
The Alela deck is supposed to win with either Lab Man or Jace, yet looking in the deck list there is no Lab Man, as it would not work well with Polymorph effects. Then we looking at the decklist it mentions Thassa's Oracle, yet again there is no Oracle in the deck. I know it can still win with Jace, but that removes the other win conditions and limits it to sorcery speed. Liked the videos - this is more of a strat/deckbuilding question.
At the end of the second game... Alela has deathtouch. How could the Kefnet player have cleared her and kept the loop going? If he attacks with kefnet he dies if Alela blocks
Kefnet has flying; however, if there is an issue with blocking Jordan can just keep taking turns until he finds a cyclonic rift or another way to bounce permanents
Someone else will be playing the deck if someone has 2 decks in the finale. The owner or person who originally played the deck will walk through the deck with the person who will be playing it to make sure they are able to play if efficiently
He accidentally showed the Flusterstorm on screen instead of the Windfall. There are a few frames that it's noticeable that he is exiling a Windfall when he goes to put it in his exile pile (the frames that you can see the art are at 13:18)
Bill could have made a better play with the Leonin Relic Warder, and actually permanently exiled something by sacrificing it in response to its trigger to Razaketh
That one is on me. Jordan is playing Kefnet but I must have skimmed over the nameplates for game 1 and not noticed it. It is correct in game 2 but incorrect for all of game 1
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG Alrighty I was a little confused but it's not like it changed anything about the video. Thanks for clearing it up though, would've been on my mind all day lmao
I believe you are correct. Looking at the game notes it looks like he attacks Nate; however, I missed that action when doing the narration. Luckily it doesn't change too much but good catch!

Question about the channel: Would these decks be around an 8/10? If not, what power level would you say they're at? Showing friends this channel and saying "these games are ???/10" I think would go a long way in helping everyone understand power levels. It's a tricky topic, and could always use some great examples!
That was a really bad showing of what Kaalia is capable of. I have her as my show off deck because she used to win around turn 4 when Iona was still legal. She needs to be super aggressive and getting constant value. Bills deck felt very unfocused for me personally.
Infinite combos are so lame. There’s a million easy infinite combos in EDH… So challenge yourself & don’t use them. My Kaalia can kill with straight up combat damage on T5 without infy combos or infect.

the spell pierce that was flashed back with the snapcaster mage should have been exiled as well (not sure if it got corrected)
