Interesting thing about the filming of this, which Simone relayed in an interview I heard, once she stepped into the circle of fire, the cameraman had to have a second guy tracking him to make sure he didn’t step back into the fire. You don’t think about stuff like that when you are watching it, but it gives you an appreciation of what goes into capturing a performance like this.
Also eagle from skeleton key video wanted to fly away while attached to Simones hand and pulled her. There was a video of that.
I do love watching behind the scenes for technically challenging videos like this one .

The lyrics are inspired by German folklore, a tale about the Alder King, or Erlking, who steals children’s souls.

in the original studio version at the beginning of the song there is a long orchestral introduction, which here was replaced with a duet of piano and guitar and it sounds very cool, 2 versions of this song are simply gorgeous
The studio version is also worth listening to, because the intro is quite different. It's done entirely with classical instruments and sounds like the best film soundtrack I've ever heard!
On the studio album, the intro section is fully orchestral, it's beautiful 🙃
Both versions are independently amazing. Like the best film soundtrack ever for a movie that's never been made.

Was so happy when i saw the show live the first time. Finally a good "live" performance of this song 😁. Song before this one is a pretty special one to, Epica Rivers (a capella) omega alive.

@@AmericansLearn Epica did many acoustic versions of their own metal songs and they are always amazing. Only a great metal song can be transformed into a great acoustic version. You can't do that with some some generic metal song. It only shows what great musicians they are.
I can give you multiple suggestions for future "double reactions" if you wish. Just one reaction video, but listening to two songs in it. One metal and one acoustic. What do you think?

Simone simons is the only one who have smoothest transition voice from chest to head voice, and so powerful. She also really have greatest airy voices. What a beautiful voice of her. Compare to another female vocal opera in metal, simone simons is the best for that. Actually....!!!

I don't know if this was more of a stripped-down version but there is another version of this on the holographic principles tour where it's more orchestrated otherwise this is one of my favorite songs!🎼🤘🌹

Simone is great in switching from chest voice to head voice and back.
She often uses mixed voice and vocal coach Mary Zimmer on youtube called Simone "the master of mixing". 🙂
The spoken words you can hear in this ballad are parts of the poem Erlkönig (Alder king) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, about the Alder king who steals children's souls.
You should also listen to the album version as it is quite different from the Omega Alive version. I'll drop the link in a separate post below this one. 😉

Lauren, please please, your next reaction needs to be EPICA - Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live) - one of their best known songs. It's quite straightforward, no harsh vocals, but it's beautiful!
I like the fact that you can really appreciate beautiful operatic vocals, transitions between chest and head, etc. Not too many people know enough about those things.
The song I mentioned above is from 2009, their 4th studio album, but here it is performed in 2023 and Simone sounds better than ever! Her crystal clear soprano will give you chills here. Besides Simone's gorgeous voice, the song itself has a beautiful catchy melody and toward the end it has one of the most epic key changes I've ever heard! Seriously, no cap. 😂 In this particular video, the huge screen behind the band makes that key change even more epic. You will see!
Please, do this one asap! Even better if you could do it together with your friend from opera.

The only other band I know of that has such an excess of talent is Dream Theater. But Epica's songs work so much better than theirs on an emotional level.
