I enjoyed that trip down memory lane. I have always liked Eddy Murphy. I loved his stand up comedy. I know it was raunchy at times yet he cracked me up. Especially when he talked about his mother and his childhood. I can still remember the shoe story. "You knew you were in trouble when momma took off her shoe and that perfect range as it flew across the room and hit you in the back of the head". Running around the coffee table to get away from her. Good times.
Whenever I'm not feeling too good or am anxious about something, I'll pop in one of his 80s flicks and feel better. Any of them work, Beverly Hills Cop, 48 hours, Coming to American even Delirious and Raw, and I feel better. His later stuff is good. But his 80s stuff is pure magic!! I'm sure it could be because I grew up then, but it feels that was the apex of his career.
Nick Fury from avengers? Red from shawshank redemption? Django from Django Unchained? Jay from Men in Black? Storm in the X-men series? Why do you leave the best ones out?....
Those Beverly Hills Cop Movies where some of the best movies to come out in the mid 80s - early 90s. There's a reason there are rumors floating around that they are making a reboot of the movies.
I know people come down on Eddie for his more family friendly comedies, but they are hilarious as he is hilarious. His movie Meet Dave has got to be one of the top 5 laugh from gut movies I've ever seen. I will never forget how much I laughed watching that movie. Laughed so hard it hurt. I would recommend watching it.
Top "EDDIE MURPHY" films 1. Coming To America 2. Trading Places 3. 48 Hours 4. Beverly Hills Cop 5. Life 6. Nutty Professor 7. Harlem Nights 8. Boomerang 9. Dreamgirls 10. Dolemite Is My Name 11. Dr Doolittle 12. Vampire In Brooklyn
THE BEST at playing multiple characters! If you ask me, he's slightly underrated. He should have won at least 2 Oscars by now. If dude can play his own family in Nutty Professor, with their own personality with there own voice...He deserves an Oscar. Vampire in Brooklyn, Coming to America, Norbit and the list how's on 💋. Anybody that says that he is not the best is crazy or racist!
The last Eddie murphy movie I watched that felt like classic Eddie, with the mature humour was “life”. That’s one of my favourite Eddie Movies to date. I don’t think we’ll ever get another movie from Eddie like that again . No Leslie Jones or Tracy Morgan’s doing slap stick and Juvenile comedy, but good old mature comedy for grown folk.
I don't know why no one has mentioned "Bowfinger." Eddie Murphy was great in that movie. I will admit that his role in Beverly Hills Cop should be number one.
I would also put his work on "The Distinguished Gentleman" (a very funny and underrated film IMO) as an honorable mention but this is a really solid list!
That fight he has with Nick Nolte in 48 Hrs, is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in any movie(both beat the heck out of each other). Also its very funny in the sequel(Another 48 Hrs)when Reggie throws a basketball straight at Jack's face in prison.
I really didn't know who played Mushu in Mulan up until now. I also feel bad that Mushu isn't in the live-action Mulan. Hey, Eddie Murphy was a great/funny actor. I love him.
Chevy Chase made several comedy classics in the 80s, IMHO that are funnier overall than Murphy and Murray. Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Fletch, Fletch Lives, Caddy Shack, The Three Amigos, Spies Like Us, Funny Farm, etc..
As much as I liked Axel Foley, my favorite Eddie Murphy performance has always gotta be Prince Hakeem and a whole slew of characters from Coming to America, he even nailed the old jewish guy from the barber shop scenes, that whole movie was hilarious from start to finish
10. kelly robinson - i spy 09. mushu - mulan 08. kiff and jiff ramsey - bowfinger 07. billy ray valentine - trading places 06. professor sherman klump/buddy love - the nutty professor 05. chandler jarrell - the golden child 04. donkey - shrek 1 and 2 03. prince akeem joffer - coming to america 02. axel foley - beverly hills cop franchise 01. buckwheat, james brown, mr,robinson - saturday night live
Still thought Raw and Delirious should of been on here becuase those where the Top Stand Ups of the 80's, but glad you left his singing career off this list!,,, (party all the time} Eddie Murphy 1st single, if you too young to remember look it up!!! it's almost as funny as his stand up
If Eddie Murphy is so talented and funny, then why can't he mount a comeback? I sure hope he can make a comeback. Eddie Murphy is really talented and funny for all generations.
It's the case for a LOT of comedic actors. It's hard for them to stay relevant forever. Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Mike Myers... haven't done anything great in a really long time.
MasterBluePrint No comedian stays relevant for a long time. Charlie Chaplin didn't, and if he can´t, no one can. Eddie stays relevant for almost what? 30 years? It just show how great the man is. It's almost a record. Let him rest for some years. Then he will do his comeback.
He took a slight turn when he became a family man, and the movies that weren't so hot, he was still making tons of money. I think at that point, you lose touch with what success in the industry really is. Its the same reason he hasn't done any stand-up at all. He has no idea what the people really want.
10. 48 hours 09. dolomite is my name 08. the nutty professor 07. trading places 06. the golden child 05. shrek 04. dream girls 03. beverly hills cop 02. coming to america 01. saturday night live
this is probably the first watchmojo list that i cant argue with at all. sounds legit from start to finish with me. although ispy wouldn't really get an honorable mention in my opinion but thats not a big deal
Eddie's a damn legend.

His performance as Mushu only got an honourable mention!? Dishonour on you! Dishonour on your channel! Dishonour on your Cow!
Ugh. I know. Mushu us one of my favorite animated "animals". Eddie Murphy did amazing with him
Nobody could have played donkey in shrek better than this guy
You're right. No one could have been a better jackass!
Number 1 predicted and totally earned... Eddie Murphy, along with that EPIC theme song, made one of the best cop movies ever
norbit, resputia, and mr wong needed to be on this list
I love Eddie Murphy he's one of my favorite comedian and actor
Beverly Hills Cop is one of my favorite movies of all time. ❤
Where's Harlem Nights?
I enjoyed that trip down memory lane.
I have always liked Eddy Murphy. I loved his stand up comedy. I know it was raunchy at times yet he cracked me up.
Especially when he talked about his mother and his childhood. I can still remember the shoe story. "You knew

Shawn Kemp a fact lol
That’s what I thought! WHERE IS HARLEM KNIGHTS??????
Shawn Kemp HAS TO BE
exactly and best defense
Whenever I'm not feeling too good or am anxious about something, I'll pop in one of his 80s flicks and feel better. No Just No!
that´s racist

MCruben3000 Lol!
One of life's many questions :)
Those Beverly Hills Cop Movies where some of the best movies to come out in the mid 80s - early 90s.
There's a reason there are rumors floating around that they are making a reboot of the movies.
You mean mid 80s to late 80s.
eddie's number one performance will always be axel foley
Diarmuid O'Neill Dunkey
@@kappakappa4507 Fuck you
Yup
From Bevey Hills Cop 1 or 2?
I know people come down on Eddie for his more family friendly comedies, but they are hilarious as he is hilarious. His movie Meet Dave has got to be one of the top 5 laugh from gut movies I've ever seen. I will never forget how much I laughed watching that movie. Laughed so hard it hurt. I would recommend watching it.
I also thought Meet Dave was funnier than it gets credited for. Most likely his most underrated film.
Coming to America then Beverly Hills Cop??? YESSSSS love him in both of these movies!! He rocked them roles!
I Love Eddie in Beverly Hills Cop!
my favorite has always been Axel Foley in the Beverly Hills Cop films
Same Thing I Love Beverly Hills Cop 2 Big Time!
Life is one of my favorite movies of all time
His turn in Tower Heist deserved at least an honourable mention. He was a riot in that movie
I'm so happy to see I Spy get an honorable mention. So Underrated.
finally, a watchmojo top ten I think most people can actually agree on
Vampire in Brooklyn should be on this list
yes vampire in Brooklyn and Metro so underreacted should be on the list
It depresses me that Eddy Murphy is no longer relevant outside of Shrek and box office bombs. :(
I feel you mate.
DONKEEEEEEH
they're coming out with beverly hills cop 4 (in the making apparently, confirmed by eddie)
blame hollywood, they molded him into what he is now, soft, polite and boring.....
Wow he ever ;$
This guy is awesome, he is one of my favorite comedians, he is the greatest of all time
Eddie Murphy should've nabbed the Oscar for his role as "James 'Thunder' Early" in "Dreamgirls" (2006). That award was his!
How. Is. Daddy. Day. Care. Not. On. This. List?
IK! I literally threw my tablet across the room because they didn't put daddy day care on the list
You literally didn't throw it, like literally...
***** like literally, you know, like OMG, this is literally, like literally OmG
Emily Anderson that movie was HORRIBLE
Well, because it wasn't memorable, and the movie was actually pretty bad.
He’s so talented
The casting, the plot, the music, and of course the opening action all combine to make Axel Foley the top pick for me.

Eddie Murphy is my brother
The last Eddie murphy movie I watched that felt like classic Eddie, with the mature humour was “life”. That’s one of my favourite Eddie Movies to date. I don’t think we’ll ever get another movie from Eddie like that again . No Leslie Jones or Tracy Morgan’s doing slap stick and Juvenile comedy, but good old mature comedy for grown folk.
Trading Places deserves to be MUCH higher. Its unquestionable a top 3 of his movies
I like him and his comedy. funny, classic stuff.
Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley was pure gold! ;)

Life is a very underrated movie, I am glad it at least got an honorable mention.
I don't know why no one has mentioned "Bowfinger." Eddie Murphy was great in that movie. I will admit that his role in Beverly Hills Cop should be number one.
Dreamgirls is definitely my favorite.
03.04.21 - Happy 60th Birthday from the UK, Eddie Murphy!
He is one of the best comedy actors of all time.
I know it's a little too late for this list, but I thought his role in and as Mr. Church was one of the best dramatic performances he's ever done.
I agree with you
I'll take a step further and dare-say: It puts the rest of the list to shame.
Vampire In Brooklyn may not be his best performance, but it's still one of my favorite Eddie Murphy movies.
Crazy! I was just going to recommend this list! If you weren't raised in the 80's, you really missed out.
I really didn't know who played Mushu in Mulan up until now. I also feel bad that Mushu isn't in the live-action Mulan. Hey, Eddie Murphy was a great/funny actor. I love him.
I love Eddie Murphy I've seen him in movie Mulan, Shrek, Coming To America and Daddy Daycare and he's so funny and hilarious actor and damn legend
When we're talking about 80's comedy, it's hard do find a contender for this guy.
Yep he's the best
He and Bill Murray made the 80's comedy so great
Chevy Chase made several comedy classics in the 80s, IMHO that are funnier overall than Murphy and Murray. Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Fletch, Fletch Lives, Caddy Shack, The Three Amigos, Spies Like Us, Funny Farm, etc..
Thanks again WatchMojo!

His voice acting absolutely brilliant, donkey and Mushu... Just geniusly done!!
I love him acting as John
Please do top 10 John C. Reilly performances. He is so amazingly funny and such a good actor.
The Multi-role work in Comming to America is the top spot and Eddie Murphy deservers the Carreer award
New Update:Norbit(2006),Tower Heist(2011)&Thousand Words(2010)
The Golden Child was and still is so funny to me. I laugh way too much at that movie =D

Geoffrey Smart bill Murray is the best comdiean because he still makes good movies
He took a slight turn when he became a family man, and the movies that weren't so hot, he was still making tons of money. I think at that point, you lose touch with what success in the industry really is. Its the same reason he hasn't done any stand-up at all. He has no idea what the people really want.
Can't argue with that list.
In "Raw" he was amazing!
How in the world was Harlem Nights not added on here? It was fantastic...

Geoffrey Smart exactly....trading places is top 2
Trading places should be higher
I pray for this brother to come back to Hollywood in a significant way.
WOW!!! I watched "Beverly hills cop" yesterday for the first time! A real coincidence.
I can't believe Vernest "Quick" Brown from Harlem Nights doesn't even get an Honorable Mention! This Top 10 gets a null and void from me.
