I just adore Emmylou Harris, I have 4ever, since she 1st arrived in LA & started, I want to thank beautiful Emmy for introducing me to Rodney Crowell & Townes Van Zandt. Like Townes’s song Two Girls, which Roseanne covered beautifully, 1 I loved with all my heart & 1 I did not know. I have loved and had Rodney’s music since the 70’s, I didn’t know about Townes when he was alive, I thank Emmylou for introducing me to Townes music, I just love Pancho and Lefty ❤❤ Also early Albert Lee, the fantastic British guitarist who also played with Emmy’s pal, Linda Rondstadt, he’s just amazing!
Dont know if you guys cares but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last few months xD
Been listening to Emmylou for over 40 years. What a beautiful soul interpreting Townes song. The thing I really notice now is how great the Hot Band was and how a British guitar player like Albert Lee could slide in there and replace James Burton and bring his own style to complement such good musicians.
I always loved Emmylou's voice and her understated natural beauty. She is a pleasure both to watch and listen to. Her music and looks are still a refreshing change from the war-paint, hair extensions, outrageous costumes and shallow froth that women less talented and less beautiful are churning out these days. And she always had great musicians in her bands like Albert Lee, Ricky Skaggs and Vince Gill, there isn't space here to name them all. Thanks for this trip down memory lane.
You seem to heavy on someones looks way before speaking about the wonders of her interpretations of songwriters/musicians such as Townes and Gram. Peace, stay well, and be kind
Emmylou has the best version of this song by far. I heard Townes do it live a few times in Houston. Sometimes he nailed it; sometimes he didn't. But Emmylou always did a great job. Never liked Willie's version for some reason. The one time I heard Townes do it the best was when he growled out the words in a park on the Univ of Houston campus when he had been sitting around for hours waiting to perform. He was probably drunk. He usually was. I think the song sounds best when you're tired as hell and your voice is full of gravel.
I think this is my favorite youtube comment ever. This beautiful random weirdly personal moment from decades ago about a great singer songwriter, a little piece of history, just hiding here with a few “likes”. Thank you!
(of course, Emmylou’s great rendition-also my favorite of many!-violates your “tired as hell and voice full of gravel” guideline… but wish I had heard that exhausted gravelly Townes version!)
reba Jones Yes they did but even though their version was a more popular version it has never come close to Emmylou Harris rendition. This is far superior.
@@dlc1119 there’s a live version on youtube from 2014 where Merle Haggard in concert tells like a hilarious five minute story about his recording of this with Willie Nelson happened, and that’s how I learned they discovered it via Emmylou’s cover and not the Townes original. It’s hilarious to hear him tell the story and involves Merle standing in his underwear after having been up for five days making the album and fasting on lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne.
No comparison with Willie and Merle’s original gem. Tempo was a bit slow with lot of deviations from the original rendition. Worst cover ever heard in 30 years.

When Emmylou sings this song, it's so hauntingly beautiful. She is such a gifted artist. Simply Amazing.

Emmy's voice always drills right into me. I think this "era" however, is most spectacular! Like a pure, clear mountain stream

One of the best songs ever sung by one of the best ever! Thanks Emmy Lou and Townes!
Sublime!
Check out “Wish We Were Back In Missouri” with Levon Helm from the Jesse James album. Awesome album. She steals the show, not surprisingly.

I love Townes, but this is my favorite version, with Willie and Merle a distant third, (and Willie is awesome).
Albert Lea is everywhere
U supposed to learn something new every day! I didn't know Willie got this all American favorite from her but love it!!!!!!it's great!
This is song by Townes Van Zandt.

The story I got was, Willie was at his daughters' house and she played this record. It was just what he was looking for to head a new album.

Willie & Merle: NOT the original.
