- Coming in at #10 of the best moments from The Dale Jr. Download in 2022...Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Greg Biffle speak on the decline of Roush Racing and the factors that led to the team getting behind the competition. Greg explains that the team failed to progress with the direction of the sport and that it took them a long time to catch up once they were behind. The lack of winning equipment ultimately played a role in Greg leaving Cup racing in 2016, which he explains was a year earlier than his contract stated.

Greg was one of the best guests this season. Between this Download episode and seeing his performance in SRX. This guy never lost an ounce of his ability...should still be a Cup regular.
Be cool if Dale would get Greg Biffle in Late Model racing 🇺🇸🏁
@@markwilliams5606 😅
Interesting take on the inner workings can make or break a team or company
THESE are the kinds of stories Nascar media are missing. THIS is the behind the scenes information we've wanted for 15 years. Roush has always been such an enigma.
NASCAR doesnt want us to know that one its most popular organizations is trash
I remember when Greg Biffle raced at the same track I did in Tri-Cities Washington. He was always towards the front of the pack, and won a lot of races. It was cool to see him advance to the winter heat series where I think that’s where Jack Rouch & Mark Martin recognized him for his talent. I’ve always been a fan, it was great to see him race in the SRX series. Go Biff!!!
This was my favorite episode hands down
Although RFK had a terrible start, you were able to notice massive improvements towards the end. Future is high at RFK with Brad Keselowski.
@@richrishel9809 honestly, Roush is only really there as name now and hasn’t been involved with the team for years. You could tell with their performance.
I feel so bad for Greg his loyalty bit him in the ass and cost him a title. Kind of like Reggie Miller playing for the Indiana Pacers all those years carrying the team to the playoffs but never getting a title and he could have went somewhere else and been a number two or number three player but got several titles.
I always said Biffle was the Reggie Miller of Nascar because like you said if Reggie had of left the pacers for another team I think he wins 1-2 tiles. Greg could have went to Joe Gibs RCR or anywhere…he just should have left but he was loyal to Roush he stuck it out and that’s ok🤷♀️
nothing to regret, he accomplished so much.
The lesson to be had he is only be loyal to yourself and your wife and kids. Everyone else can go pound salt. I read something a long time ago that basically said why be loyal to someone else for 30 years to get a gold watch when you can be loyal to yourself and buy yourself a platinum one on 10 ? Charity starts at home and so does loyalty.
Dale you need to get Derek White on your show and let him tell his story on why he’s banned from nascar
This was a really good interview. I enjoyed it just as much the second time around.
Great interview. Rousch to Hendrik. Mark Martin summed it best. He had to make at Rousch. Hendrick engineers made it for him. Like working at NASA.
The Biff!! My favorite after DJ
What a great interview. Thanks for getting him on the show. It would have been interesting and maybe even amazing if he had been able to get Chad on board.
I'll bet Mark Martin would be an equally great interview
I'm thoroughly enjoying these clips. It's highly interesting to hear all of the various back stories.
Biffle was one of the best wheelmen in the sport. Wish he got more credit for it.
Another awesome interview! Your guys show(s) have single handed revived my interest in NASCAR. Not so much for NASCAR as a corporation, but the “generic” NASCAR that includes all the history and the personalities.
Seems like loyalty is a big thing for Greg Biffle seems like a very likable guy. Kind of rare to see that kind of loyalty and appreciation not all about money.
JR is a great interviewer and this was ANOTHER great interview!
I was such a huge fan of Biffle. I felt like he was a real wheelman and should've had much more success in Cup. I was conflicted with this interview because Biffle appears to be awesome, it's just the whole camera thing that puts me on edge with this guy.
Biffle should still have been in Cup. It was always going to be that Biffle was gonna leave Roush but it never happened. I wish he did, if he did he could still be racing.
I love the 15min segments
I used to Hate Greg Biffle because he was in Roush and he was in a Ford and I hate Fords in Motorsports, but watching this Interview, Biffle seems like a Nice Guy and has a Ton of Personality
I hate bowties in general 🤮. but I thought junior was an alright guy.
Seriously tho, I liked Greg and Mark, but I (and probably a lot of others too) never knew Jack was kinda his own worst enemy like that... :(
Always one of my top 5 drivers that I liked. Greg was a great driver.
Yes , being a fan of Roush it puzzled me why Jack wouldn't keep up . I put it to Jack having other racing programs not leaving enough resources 🤔
Greg is so intelligent. It was pretty awesome to listen to his views from the Roush side of things.
It is indeed that time of the year again!
2019. He climbed back behind the wheel of a KBM truck and won the race at Texas. The Biff should come back
One of my favorite truck races ever. He came in and proceeded to give everyone a masterclass.
Three years outside a NASCAR, 15 since the last time he was in a truck, and wins.
Great interview.
I probably have more insight into this than anyone, I managed machining for Roush Racing, 1990-1998, which included engine build. The engineering staff was a joke in this time frame, I actually took the time to explain and define/educate machining principals to the staff that lacked "mechanical" skills, NO HANDS On!. Roush did not "PAY" decent wages, endless revolving door. The man himself had no personality, NOBODY wanted to interface with the guy. He never showed appreciation. Upper management was poor (being politically correct), comanagers equally, he had one favorite, and the guy was a "decent" at best. Basically, funded by Ford (as Shelby). He was sheltered, or private at company functions, no family (son and daughter were a joke in this time frame), wife was never present. His secretary, hence g/f Brenda was at his side always. Poor pilot, I machined the engine in his first P-51 Mustang. Never appeared please, "happy" satisfied, NEVER a celebration following a race Mark won. Yes, understood race engines etc., we had a decent group of guys relating to our engine program. We had two clowns marketing "machining" to the local market on the westside of Detroit attempting to improve their own character while we could not produce for the race teams. Basically, far too large, poorly managed, nobody "liked" jack including Nascar, a "money pit" with poor results. At times we did not even pay our bills, vendors became "COD". His faith, or listening to all the wrong "people" as Greg noted.
He’s a dipshit pilot too. He crashed that once time in the p-51. Then another time he crashed his private jet flying into OshKosh being a moronic show off. Almost killed himself along with his “assistant” you mentioned.
So heartbreaking to hear as a Roush fan, but not surprising to hear as I know people who have done development at Roush for the ecoboost and they said the same thinga
@@COCarDude completely agree. Didn't know much about Roush but I grew up a Mark Martin fan because of my dad. I'm so surprised reading all of this just now. Thanks for you're insight into Roush OP.
Kind of reaffirms what Greg said in the interview but in a more blunt way where Greg was trying not too burn to many old bridges. Did you work with the drivers just curious as to what you think of Carl and Greg. Was it frustrating to train people and watch them leave for better teams? Did this happen a lot? Did you eventually move to a better team like PENSKE or Chip Ganassi or Joe Gibbs?
I know a man that was a transmission specialist there. He has said how cheap Jack is
Fascinating...I loved Greg good driver and as you can see super intelligent and knew his technical part of the car.
Biff and Kyle Busch are the two guys I’ve witnessed driving a car sideways off a corner better than anyone.
I shook his hand when I was like 10 at louden nh. That was 25 years ago, damn...
Even though he was on a team i did not cheer for much , i always liked him for his on track efforts and his class on and off the track if that makes sense . Great Cup driver for sure ... can you imagine what he could have done at Hendrick !!
This is the best explanation I have heard about the computer guys coming in in the 90s. it was true. crewchief took offense to a non racing background engineer second guessing science. mass in motion, centrifugal force, down force, weight transfer points. I remember Dad, after being a BGN Champion Crew Chief with all the blood and sweat to get there, not feeling the engineers had validity. In a way, I see the validity with sim racing tech. But raw science, I still think needs to be considered in the engineers models. as well. Dad's still not a big fan of sim racing, but we're trying to convince him 😉✌🏁...
Biffle was my driver until he quit. I just know if he was behind better equipment, he could contend against anyone. I remember watching i believe it was his 05 season. Pretty magical!
In Nascar, if you are not getting better; you are getting worse. Its so competitive. Thats why so many of us love it.
It like that in damn near every form of racing.
Jack Roush is a great guy. He’s been my neighbor for years. My first job ever was with him during his drag racing days.
Reminds me of Mark Martins reaction to showing up to a cup race and no one from Rousch even acknowledging him for being there. The team is disconnected from the current reality.
Greg is a smart guy and a real wheel man.
Also imagine Greg buying like Yates or Baker Curb and making it his
Greg should be a crew chief. I was a #99 (Edwards) fan, and Biffle was always kicking tail too during 04-10.' Tough there were not more championships with this team.
Dale? When are you and Greg gonna come over and race late models at Tri-Cities Raceway in Washington? The historic half-mile tri-oval is very abrasive and has two racing grooves with plenty of run out in the sketchy parts. You can do it! Come on over man!
🏁👈😎👍
I was in the stands when Biffle and Kurt Busch were in Roush trucks at Daytona and Busch was crying like a toddler on the radio when 'teammate' Biffle passed him.
What I see is there was so many good and wonderfully people doing great work how could Jack let any one go or change. Some times pruning does make a better fruit tree but you have.to.prune with care and understanding on every one's part.
Isn't that the secret?
Honestly, I never like Greg Biffle. But seeing him here, I don't know why. Sorry Biff, you are a good man👍👍
Love to see Greg Biffle back in racing. But not Cup! Late Model racing is Better! Talk to him Dale. People would come out to see him. 🇺🇸🏁🌄. Chevrolet Guy
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this clip before a few months back 🤔
They're doing year-end top 10.
I really just missed that title 😅
The irony of this with your username 🤣 solid work my friend.
Would love to have an episode dedicated to iRacing
Someone should have asked Jack if he wanted a wining organization or if he wanted to build cars. He wanted to be too heavily involved in every decision.
Wonder how many championships could have been won by the drivers roush held back over the years ?
Mark Martin would have won 100 races if he had ran at Hendrick his entire career instead of staying loyal to Jack for 20 years.
They did my crew chief dirty in the truck series. 6 truck had the pick of the litter and the 99 and the 50 got the scraps. I won’t ever have any respect for mike beam for the crap he pulled while I worked there. I didn’t even try to find another job in nascar after the truck shop downsized and eventually shut down after 09.
To answer the question right when Fenway came in started the downfall of roush.
Wait a minute...he races cars too? I thought Joe was just a comedian on Impractical Jokers
Interesting the second time around.
My two favorite to say should have won a championship Mark Martin and Greg Biffle.
Interesting.
Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac, Toyota
Here is my take, when they went to FI vs Carb and NR2003 or the big deal etc.
@9:20 Greg is basically explaining what formula 1 figured out decades ago and one of the reasons they’re lap times are always the track records.
You just now uploaded this two days ago? Who the hell is your producer?
This is a recap of previous shows...
Goes to show just how much Mark Martin meant to Roush Racing.
Thumbnail made it look like Joe Gatto from Impractical Jokers.
Every time I see Greg Biffle the "I got run over by a bug-eyed dummy" is my immediate thought.
Clicked on this thinking dale was talking to Joe Gatto
Biff was not only a great Wheelman he understood how to set up a car.
Ask the Biff how the mustang he had Pro Dyno turned out.
I wish Greg would grow a beard and his hair out like back in the day
What year was this look? I do not remember him looking like that.
1996
I mean besides the two cups in nascar when Roush was hot like 20 years ago … they never did nothing again, definitely isn’t a Joe Gibs… haha that man has three Super Bowl rings even haha.
And in Nascar it’s tuff when you have Hendrix Motors as your opponent those guys just fucking win… in Nascar if there is one thing I’ve learned since my childhood started is don’t bet against a Hendrix motors .
Roush was always I felt
Like there just to embezzle the money ford was willing to invest in being involved in nascar at the time and have a respectable showing well knowing they weren’t trying to win.
🤩✌💖💖
Thanks jr for wearing $different INDY drivers
Wheel Man
Biff's face looks like Mayfield
Rousch is a CHEAP SOB. That is a fact from many former employees
Dallas Sucked big time rhus weekend
Jack azz in the hat never wanted to spend the money
Stone Cold Facts👊
U right
I'd bet Greg tells everyone that interviews him ,not to bring up him peeping on hot wife and mother-in-law. Even giving his buddy's access to the camera's.
How can you talk bad contracts when these drivers make millions. Money ruined NASCAR and the major sponsors should tell all that it's not the contracts. It's the drivers acting like 2 year olds and NASCAR dropping the "old" tracks to go to "new" venues. Who cares about a race in the middle of the desert? Maybe more fans would come back when the drivers drive like the pros (?) they are and NAScar runs a car that looks like a real car, not one that all brands fit the same templates. If you want to see real racing, watch one of the old races, when the drivers had no power steering or suit coolers and made hundreds or thousands of dollars for a win. That's why diehard NASCAR fans are going back to local race tracks. To see real racing.
Surprised about having "aero-issues", seeing as how Jack was always such a great pilot.
Oh Snap.
Lol.
Crashed better than any.
Wtf....he should of taken that Gibbs deal.
