Imagine looking for a Zaku only to find the White Devil instead. That's straight out of a horror movie. It's like the damn thing is a boogeyman that's randomly going to pop out of the corner in the dark and kill you.
You know what's actually funny about this part of the upcoming horror show??? This guy was gunning down both Red and Orange GMs in Morrocco before coming to the island, so for all the pilot knew, it could've been a Red GM behind that curtain. Not the best day for a surprise visit from what he feared lol.

I feel that the very best example of how powerful Newtype are in Gundam seed (they canonically exist in seed) Le Cresuent was brutally beating the Freedom Gundam WHILE KIRA WAS IN SEED MODE. The fact that a newtype almost won the fight against what was practically the most superior human ever should tell you about their abilities.

Being able to attack your enemy from multiple different directions is gonna be a huge advantage. If you gave him and Kira properly equal MS then it might have been a different story altogether. That aside, Rau being a badass has less to do with him being a Newtype and more the fact that he's just that good at what he does. He was able to join ZAFT and pilot their machines despite the fact that he's not really a Coordinator. He's a clone yeah, but he had no enhancements or alterations done hence his and Rey's health issues. Even Mu, a guy who's also Newtype, couldn't pilot the Strike Gundam until ORB had installed an OS dedicated for Naturals which speaks a lot about Rau in general.

There’s actually a reason for that. Each mobile suit has a Minovsky reactor, which is essentially thermonuclear in nature. Hitting the reactor has the potential of causing it to explode with the force of a small nuclear bomb. The only safe way to take an enemy mobile suit with a beam saber without any risk of setting off the Minovsky reactor is to stab through the cockpit, where it won’t hit the reactor. Gnarly, but it’s the only safe way.

@@arx3516 actualy he was better than char by the time they reached the Texas colony, Amuro was carrying RX-78-2 due to how good he was, the fact that he demolished Char's Gelgoog in their first fight is amazing on its own, even better when the Gundam's joints were causing trouble
Saddest part for him was that his weapon still wouldn't have been able to stop Amuro even he immediately back off and fired into the curtain bc of the RX-78-2's armor. He was a dead man walking, this whole scene.
Here you can see the fear of every Zeon soldier, the Gundam. And the truth is, seeing how the Gundam's eyes are red first before turning into the amber yellow that we all know, is scary and seeing the reaction that the Zaku pilot had moments after lifting the tarp that hid the RX-78-02 is He can see his fear and barely had time to react, when Amuro launches himself into the attack, quickly turning on the deployed Saber Beam and aiming for the cockpit and killing the pilot. Here it is shown that Amuro's skills as a Mobile Suit pilot were growing strongly and it is also shown to us that not for nothing, the Gundam, not only the RX-78, but in general, has the title of "The White Devil".
You know the craziest part of this scene is? No one saw anyone sneak into the cockpit of the Gundam before this guy found it. The fact that maybe only Char knows the actual pilot behind the mobile suit way later makes this scene even more terrifying. Zeon basically perceived the White Devil as its own being.

See, the smart thing to do when he saw the feet would be to "Advance to the Rear" and radio for backup; you're probably still going to die, but your comrades would be alerted to the threat.
Of most (if not all) pilots in the Gundam series, Amuro is the one who fights like a real war veteran, only use the bare minimum possible to kill the enemy. It's not just turning the beam saber from minimum to maximum and turn back after the strike to save energy. There are other movements as well, such as using finger balloon or firing a bazooka mounted on the Gundam's back without locking using the radar (thus won't show on the enemy's radar, because it's treated as a stray bullet by the computer). Not mentioning attacking with the Gundam's fists instead of taking time drawing a lightsaber just for the increase in action time. Those are deadly, cheap tricks that only war veteran would use. It's like a gladiator using sand throw. Compared to him, Kira is more accurate in control and can perform dazzling stunts, but lacking in combat distractions and such. He's like a knight in shining armor, and because he almost never have to resort to cheap tricks, he's kinda lacking in terms of deadliness. His "not killing" is like a child throwing a tantrum of "I don't wanna do that". The biggest reason Amuro lose to Kira in some people's eyes is because of the drawing style... not beautiful enough.
Remember, original White Devil had muscle memory and some kind of silent AI what help it become stronger each battle, Amuro in that logic only commands what to do, while muscle memory chooses most optimal variant how to do it.
I really wish that they didn’t have to portray Amuro’s Gundam as Heroic. Could you imagine how different this scene would’ve been if they’d simply made the music scary instead of energetic. I want the White Devil to be more than just a name!
I absolutely love the designs of Gundam Origin. They're classic and slightly modernized. The only complaint I have of the series is that... damn, the MSs are so expressive in movements. It's just so unrealistic to see a Mobile suit getting jump-scared or wiggling its arms, scared to die. Take that scene of the GMs running away from Doan, for example- Would a war machine, controlled with sticks, actually have the capability to move like that? I think it would be more mechanized and less... well, human.
I see a lot of praise for the Gundam, but homie saw Gundam Clown feet hiding behind the shower curtain like it was a tom and jerry cartoon and didnt even start blind firing... my man really let the Zeon down this day >:(

indeed, but they are fielded by Zeons southern cross unit. which is an elite squadron of Zakus not dissimilar to SS Panzer Battalions of WWII that fielded Tigers.

Greatly shows how advanced the Gundam was compared to other suits of the time so I would say the feds got their money’s worth
This also shows how good of MS pilot Doan is which mange two react fast enough to doge a beam saber at very close range from RX-78-2 and Amuro.
The fact that the joints had to be reworked later on in the series to keep up with Amuro is insane
