Well done! That is a surprisingly good description of the problem. For those who stop by, this is usually caused by dirty oil. You don't need dirty oil to get it, and I'm not accusing you of a late oil change. This is the Achilles heel of all new cars, they are much more vulnerable to bad oil. The actuators rely on clean synthetic oil to apply pressure through tiny passageways to shift the cam phasers and advance timing. They have screens to try and prevent clogging inside those passages, but even the screens clog up, then the actuators stick. So, if there is anything to remember here it is to change your oil and oil filter on time, use full synthetic. The decision to check the turbo banjo screens was also wise, although I doubt a turbo oil delivery problem would cause a problem with timing.

Great work! No better feeling than figuring out an issue & fixing it yourself! Not to mention saving LOTS of money! Good job young man! Most men in this area would take the car to the shop and not even think of getting their hands dirty. You just surpassed all of them at your young age. Hats off to you!

My brand new motor just got ruined because of this code and p0021 a shop also worked on my car and didn’t refill the oil after repairing a turbo line so I’m going to try to hold them liable wish me luck! Car blew up right after I got the oil changed I think it was running on no oil for maybe 20 miles before I realized they didn’t replace the oil they spilled.

it's not a sensor, its a solenoid. the sensor is at the back. U can clean the solenoid and also wack 12volts straight on them to check if moving. U can also just feed 12 volts straight to solenoid while the motor is running and it should cause it to try and stall which proves the solenoid is working.

Deadass get this code every time I drive 45 minutes to a nearby town, though I rarely go. I get that same rattling/ticking noise too. But after I take it in to have the codes read, it goes back to normal. Great video. Not sure if this applies to my rig, but I'm going to check it out anyway. It honestly drives fine, but its always on my mind when I'm cruising around.
    Sick car by the way!

Bro you could’ve googled it checked the code and it’s always good thing to have friends that have the same car! Keep it up !the car is under good hands man. Keep up the maintenance remember depending on the miles on the vehicle. You should check what kinda of things it needs before it dies on you again and start saving and have those items prepared idk that’s i do! Miles equals maintenances. I always do a check list every three months or so, it’s a good thing to do. Keep it up bro I know you’ll surprise us on this project bro !much love!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I have this code too and I couldn't see what could be wrong. I already had oil changed and it is still clean so I was confused and lost on what to do.
Btw your car looks nice. I wouldn't loose sleep over what someone else says. I have driven on highway bewteen cities and have seen some really nice expensive cars abandoned on the side of the rode. If your car can still get you from point A to point B then that is all that matters. Those people who are talking shit about your car will be standed on the side of the road one day looking for someone in any type of car to stop and help them.
I'm glad you have great people you know who could help you get your car back to running again. I'm also glad you made it home safely with your car. Two hours from home is scary thought when having car issues.
Subscribing to your channel and liking your video. I hope your car continues to function for you for years to come.

+Douglas Mattos I'm not familiar with the hood mount you mentioned, but so you know, these cars actually have a spot built in where you can move the metal hood holding rod so you can have the hood up all the way. There's a little white plastic piece that pops out where you can pop the rod into.

Get a cobb accessport they read all the codes for you and you can tune your car which you probably need to do sense you have cold air intake! i dont know if i would have your buddy weld that area could cause extreme panel warpage, they make automotive panel bond 3M its the stuff they use to glue your door skins to the frame its 2 part very strong stuff. I would get some of that, pull your car into a garage for atleast a day make sure its very dry and clean up in the void then fill it up deep it will also help with rattling. let it dry for atleast a day done. if you weld that area its going to warp. Its going to look crazy once you get your wheels. love the car i have 2004 sti love it. same color ! cheers man also you might want to do killer b oil pickup, the stock tubes suck. keep up the videos love seeing all your cars

Is this your vvt control solenoid sensor?

675forlife 2017 yes it's called an ocv. On my car - liberty gt spec.b '07 - there is an aluminium bracket blocking removal of that solenoid. But I swapped the ocv with the other side and the code swapped sides, so I know that is the problem 100%! Such a pain to get that bracket out of the way! Subaru wanted $400AUD just for labour. NO CHANCE!

My 2003 model also does that time to time but mostly when i wash my engine..if it happens the check engine comes on and bad idling occurs..so i reset my ecu and its gone everything is fine, drove about 20000 kms without any problem..
